Abstract

The article discusses the Golden Temple in the Indian city of Amritsar. Considered to be the holiest site in the Sikh religion, the temple sits on top of a wide rectangular pool which is believed to have healing powers, connected by a pedestrian bridge. Sikhism was founded in the 16th century and sought to break away from the divisions between Hindus and Muslims with a monotheistic faith. The architecture of the temple is also discussed.
