This paper is intended to solve the optimal power flow (OPF) dispatch in the presence of wind power generation (WPG) in the Adrar power system. Towards this aim, the performances of three powerful meta-heuristic algorithms-namely, the cuckoo search algorithm (CSA), firefly algorithm (FFA), and flower pollination algorithm (FPA) are investigated. The proposed algorithms are applied to best capture the active power produced with the minimum value of a multi-objective function. This latter includes: the fuel cost, the NOx emissions, and the imbalance cost of the WPGs. Furthermore, considering the uncertainties governing wind resources, the maximum wind power output is estimated using the wind speed carrying maximum energy. It was found that all algorithms perform well in providing accurate solutions. Interestingly, the convergence is reached in the first 135 iterations. A remarkable outcome of the present work is that CSA outperforms FPA and FFA. CSA has proved itself to be a great tool to optimize Adrar's power flow system in term of iterations and computational time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents the new technique combined of heuristic and metaheuristic optimization to the solution of the reactive power and voltage control problem. Efficient distribution of reactive power in an electric network leads to minimization of the system losses and improvement of the system voltage profile. It can be achieved by varying the excitation of generators or the on-load tap changer positions of transformers as well as by switching of discrete portions of inductors or capacitors etc. This constitutes a typical mixed integer non-linear optimization problem for the solution of which metaheuristic techniques have proven well suited. The heuristic method is employed if violations of the tension in some nodes are present in the network, to determine the site most appropriate to add means of compensation of the reactive power, in to give order the voltage within the imposed limits. In the another with dimensions optimization of the active losses is made by method of particle swarm to reduce to the maximum the losses in the network. Feasibility, the effectiveness and the generic nature of the method of studied PSO exemplary are shown on the Algerian western network. Due to the ever increasing load demand and reduced transmission rights, modern power transmission systems are forced to carry increasingly more power over long distances. Consequently, the transmission system becomes more stressed. Advances in power electronics and control technology, concretely the thyristor-controlled Static VAR Compensator (SVC), have introduced powerful tools to power utilities and System Operators (SO) in order to guarantee an adequate power transfer capability. This paper presents a based approach to determine optimal placement of Static VAR compensator (SVC) for voltage security enhancement, the proposed method has been applied to the Algerian distribution system. The SVC placement problem considers both, practical operation constraints of SVC, and the bound constraints on voltages which minimizes the system losses. A sensitivity-based analysis method is used to select the candidate buses for the installation of the SVC's. SVC is integrated into FDLF program. More specifically the problem of low voltage profile in Western Algerian system is investigated with respect of the dynamic voltage margins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
