The article presents a study on the decrease in numbers of Steller sea lions in Alaska due to the alteration in the distribution of their prey. It states that the change in prey distribution is due to environmental disturbances and growing effects of fisheries in the area. The study aims to evaluate the regional differences and temporal heterogeneity of the habitats used by Steller sea lions. Result shows that Steller sea lions react to measures of environmental heterogeneity.

The article discusses a study which observed the effects of vessel activity on Kittlitz's Murrelets (Brachyramphus brevirostris) at sea for each of three response variables in Glacier Bay, Alaska. It cites the characterization of the variables which include density, group size and behaviors at three time-scales of inference. The findings revealed that group size were unaffected by boating activity, but near-shore densities were suppressed temporarily by vessel passage which caused a 30-fold increase in flight behavior.
