A study conducted at Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio investigated the use of intravenous levothyroxine in unstable brain-dead heart donors. The researchers randomly assigned potential heart donors to receive either levothyroxine or a saline placebo. The study found that there was no significant difference in the number of hearts transplanted between the two groups.
