The article examines the efforts to prevent onchocerciasis in Africa as of May 2015, highlighting the African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC) that was started in December 1995. It states that onchocerciasis has a significant socioeconomic impact in West Africa which called for programmes to control it including the Onchocerciasis Control Programme launched in 1975. Other topics include the effectiveness of ivermectin to control and stop onchocerciasis infection and transmission.
