The article focuses on the works of African writer Abdelkébir Khatibi. His work is remarkable for its dedication to the same theme for more than twenty years: an interrogation of the identity of the subject. But from one work to the next, his analysis becomes increasingly profound because he raises new questions and develops new insights. Thus, although he always focuses upon the same set of problems, his thought is characterized by a constant from one perspective to another. In his essays as well as in his fictional narratives, he exploits personal experience to interrogate the identity of man. Khatibi's narrative blends poetic and philosophical elements with narration. Their fusion is not limited to a surface-level articulation of forms borrowed from a specific genre. His intention is not to foster a peaceful cohabitation of traditional Arab- Muslim genres and forms with those borrowed from modem Western literature.
