The collection "Izići na svjetlo" (Gradska knjižnica/City Library, Zadar, 2005) (Eng. "Getting out into the Light") includes four plays: "Magdalena Francisca Illyrica" (a puppet play) - written in 1994, "Soror Mea" ("historical drama collage in eight pictures", as indicated in the subtitle) from 2002, "Getting out into the Light" - written in 1996, and "Burning or War Profiteers" from 1993, which was published earlier in the literary review "Dubrovnik" in 2001 (ed. Luko Paljetak). With the dramatic conflict and tragic recognition of the victim and the perpetrator, with the illusory apathetic testimony of the observer and the occasional demystification of the soldiers/Croatian defenders, the author brings to the surface the hidden psychological nuances of the victim that go from resentment, self-pity and anger to despair and indifference, which enables - Adrijolić claims - the realization of catharsis and compassion. The phrase "getting out into the light" could therefore not mean (only) "deeper penetration into darkness because light brings death", as one of the interpreters states in her interpretation/foreword ; darkness is war, staying in basements during detonations, darkness lasting during a drama of the same title (actually lasting from midnight to dawn). Therefore, coming out into the light of the victim is a protest, facing death, it is going out to freedom (where children can and may play) - even if that play results in horrible death. NOTE: As the authoress of the dramatic texts in question and the co-author of this article, Helena Peričić did not participated in the interpretive and especially not the evaluative judgments made on this occasion by her colleague Lena Andrijolić. Peričić’s role in this paper is reflected only in formal interventions and in a few footnotes that have the purpose of explaining the context in which the observed texts were created.
