A field experiment was carried out at research field, College of Horticulture, Mandsaur (M.P.) during kharif season, 2018-19. Twenty treatment combinations comprising of four dates of sowing (D1 - 20th July, D2 - 5th August, D3 - 20th August and D4 - 5th September) and five varieties (V1 - Arka Vijay, V2 - Konkan Bhushan, V3 - Arka Visthar, V4 - Arka Adarsh and V5 - Arka Prasidhi) were evaluated in factorial randomized block design with three replications. The findings of the investigation revealed that among the dates of sowing, D1 (20th July) recorded significantly higher growth parameters, yield parameters and yield. There was highest protein content, dry matter content and fibre content in edible pods under D1 (20th July) and lowest with D4 (5th September) date of sowing. Earliest first flowering, 50% flowering and first picking of pod was noted with D4 (5th September) date of sowing. Among the varieties, variety V3 (Arka Visthar) showed superiority for growth parameters and yield parameters viz., number of spikes plant-1(116.21), pod width (23.04mm), weight of 10 pods (96.19g), pod yield plant-1 (2579.1g), pod yield ha-1 (339.6q) and harvest index (39.4%). Earliest first flowering (41.5 days) and first picking (63.7 days) was observed with V2 (Konkan Bhushan). Highest spike length (31.49cm) was measured with variety V2 (Konkan Bhushan). Highest pod length (14.05cm) and number of pods plant-1 (340.6) were recorded with variety V5 (Arka Prasidhi). An investigation was carried out during rabi season of 2013-14 at vegetable farm, College of Horticulture, Mandsaur (Gwalior) to study the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth, yield parameters and yield in French bean. The treatments comprised six nutrient levels N1, N2, N3, N4, N5 and N6 and three varieties viz., Arka Komal (V1), Contender (V2) and Swarna Priya (V3). It was noticed that application of nutrient levels and varieties had significant influence on growth, yield and yield parameters. Nutrient level N4 [Vermicompost (10t/ha) + N (50kg/ha) + Rhizobium (15g/kg seed) + PSB (15g/kg seed) + P2O5 (80kg/ha) + K2O (80kg/ha)] recorded the maximum plant height (57.92cm), fresh weight of shoot (43.70g), dry weight of shoot (11.33g), number of pod per plant (31.81), pod length (15.55cm), shelling percent (76.87%), harvest index (26.82%), seed yield per plant (17.35g) and seed yield per hectare (25.22q). The maximum days for 50 per cent flowering were taken with the application of N6 nutrient level which was significantly higher over other nutrient levels. Among the varieties Swarna Priya (V3) recorded the highest growth, yield parameters and yield in French bean. Earliest 50% flowering was recorded in variety Contender followed by Arka Komal. Eight improved cultivars viz; VL-1, VL-3, Arka Niketan, Arka Kalyan, Pusa Red, Pusa White flat, Pusa Hybrid 107 and Pusa Hybrid 102 were tested in a randomized block Design with four replications for two years to study their performance under agro-climatic conditions of Jabalpur (M.P.). The results revealed that variety Pusa Hybrid 102 recorded significantly highest yield along with maximum plant height, number of leaves/plant, width of bulb, weight of bulb and dry matter content. Variety Pusa White flat produced bulb yield next to it with highest TSS content. Remaining varieties Pusa Red, VL-3, Arka Niketan, Pusa Hybrid 107, VL-1 and Arka Kalyan exhibited bulb yield in decreasing order. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
