Two DMTCNQ (DMTCNQ = 2,5‐dimethyl‐7,7,8,8‐tetracyano‐p‐quinodimethane) and DETCNQ (DETCNQ = 2,5‐diethyl‐7,7,8,8‐tetracyano‐p‐quinodimethane) gadolinium complexes [Gd(DMTCNQ)2(CH3OH)(H2O)6][DMTCNQ]·4H2O (1) and [Gd(DETCNQ)(H2O)7][2DETCNQ] (2) were synthesized by reactions of GdCl3·6H2O with Li(DMTCNQ) or Li(DETCNQ). X‐ray diffraction analysis reveals that complexes 1 and 2 are discrete complexes. The central metal atom in 1 is coordinated by two DMTCNQ ligand radicals whereas that in 2 is coordinated by just one DETCNQ ligand radical. The adjacent molecules are connected by the intermolecular hydrogen bonds to form the two‐dimensional (2D) supramolecular layer structures, which are further packed into a three‐dimensional (3D) supramolecular architecture through the π–π interactions between ligand radicals in 1 and 2. Silver nanoparticles have good sterilization performance due to their small size and large specific surface area, while the small size also brings about reunification and reduces the sterilization activity. To resolve the problem, magnesium hydroxide [Mg(OH)] microsphere was designed as a supported material to load silver particles on its surface. Mg(OH) microspheres were successfully synthesized under the control of a biotemplate of eggshell membrane. X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry, and transmission electron microscopy were performed to characterize the Mg(OH) microspheres. The results indicate that the Mg(OH) microspheres of average size ~ 2 μm were formed from nanoflakes. The silver nanoparticles were loaded on the surface of Mg(OH) microspheres to form Mg(OH)/Ag nanocomposite, which exhibited enhanced antibacterial effect compared to that of silver nanoparticles. Magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)) assembly spheres were successfully synthesized by use of a facile bio-template method, with Mg(NO) and NaOH solution as reactants. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The Mg(OH) nanomaterial obtained was assembled from nanoflakes and was approximately 2 μm in total size. Eggshell membrane was crucially important in the process of formation of the assembly spheres. The process and mechanism of assembly of the spheres are discussed. When the Mg(OH) assembly spheres were used to treat waste water containing heavy metals approximately 100 % of copper ions were removed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Three new N-(5-amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidineamine Cd(II) coordination polymers, namely, {[Cd(AMPPA)(HO)]·(NO)·HO} ( 1), {[Cd(AMPPA)(ipa)]·2HO} ( 2) and {[Cd(AMPPA)(Hbtc)]·2HO} ( 3) (AMPPA = N-(5-amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidineamine, Hipa = isophthalic acid and Hbtc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that complex 1 exhibits one dimension (1D) coordination polymers when only the AMPPA ligand was employed. With the introduction of the building blocks (Hipa and Hbtc) into the reaction system of 1, complexes 2 with 2D layer and 3 with 3D networks were isolated, respectively. The effect of the building blocks in the construction of complexes 1- 3 has been discussed. In addition, all complexes display strong luminescence in the solid state. Using semipermeable celloidin membrane as a basic template and organic reagents as cooperation additives, the CaCO3 crystals with different morphologies were successfully synthesized. All the products were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetry, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, etc. With the view of the different solubility products (Ksp) of La2(CO3)3 and CaCO3, a novel core/shell CaCO3/La2(CO3)3 composited fluorescent material was synthesized for the first time. The yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) nanocrystals with uniform size, high purity, and high degree of crystallinity, were prepared by ultrasonic-microwave-assisted method. The structure, optical properties and morphologies of YSZ nanocrystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The SEM and TEM images of the YSZ nanocrystals indicate that the product is a mono-dispersion structure with an average particle size of about 25 nm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Three Salen-like gadolinium complexes, namely, mononuclear (4f) complex [{H2L}Gd(NO3)3] (1), heterodinuclear (3d–4f) complex [{LCu}Gd(NO3)3]·0.25H2O (2) and dimeric heterotrinuclear (3d–4f–3d′) complex [{LCu}Gd(H2O)3{Fe(CN)6}]2·6H2O (3) [H2L = N,N′-ethylene-bis(3-methoxysalicylideneimine)] have been synthesized by stepwise reactions. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 is of a discrete structure in which H2L coordinates to gadolinium ion through O2O2 moiety. Then, addition of Cu(Ac)2·H2O to the mononuclear lanthanide complex yields expected heterodinuclear (3d–4f) complexes [{LCu}Gd(NO3)3]. 3 features a unique 1D ladder-like topology structure through the intermolecular double links of Cu–N bonds. The measurement of variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility reveals that complex 1 exhibits antiferromagnetic interaction while 2 and 3 exhibit ferromagnetic interaction between spin carriers. Two new zinc phosphonates [Zn(HL 1 ) 2 ·H 2 O] ( 1 ), [Zn(HL 2 )] ( 2 ) [H 2 L 1  = C 6 H 4 (CN)-C 6 H 4 -CH 2 -PO(OH) 2 , H 3 L 2  = C 6 H 4 (COOH)-C 6 H 4 -CH 2 -PO(OH) 2 ] have been prepared via hydrothermal reaction. Their structures were first detected by single crystal X-ray diffraction and further characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TGA and X-ray single crystal/powder diffraction. The different functional groups of H 2 L 1 and H 3 L 2 involved in the coordination results in the structural diversity of complexes 1 and 2 . Luminescent and metal cations identifying properties of two complexes have also been explored. Complex 1 demonstrated much higher selectivity and sensitivity toward Fe 3+ ion than complex 2 . Two interesting hybrids based on polyoxometalates (POMs)and silver-tetrazolatesubunits, H[Ag11(pytz)6(H2O)3(P2W18O62)]·H2O (1), and H[Ag17(pytz)12(H2O)6(PMo12O40)2] (2) (pytz = 5-(2-pyridyl)tetrazolate), have been synthesizedand structurally characterized. X-ray diffraction analysis revealsthat the periphery of the Wells–Dawson POMs contains 16 Ag-pytzsubunits in compound 1, which represents the highestconnection of the POMs up to now. In the crystal engineering pointof view, all subunits, Ag atoms, POMs, and ligands, exhibit rich andnovel coordination geometries, which facilitate the formation of thehighest coordination number of the POMs. Compound 2exhibitsa complicated (6,12) connecting network with (364653)(31843051563) topology and possesses close-packed structure due to the complementarycoordination mode of PMo12aand PMo12b. To the best of our knowledge, this is a scarce coordinationmode in one crystal. In addition, the luminescent properties and electrochemicalbehaviors of these compounds are discussed. Abstract: By introducing different quinolone antibacterial drugs into the octamolybdates POMs, four new compounds, [CuII(L1)2(H2O)2]H2[β-Mo8O26]·4H2O (1), [CuII 2(L2)4][δ-Mo8O26]·4H2O (2), [CuII 2(L3)2(H2O)2][β-Mo8O26] (3), [CuII 2(L4)2(H2O)4][β-Mo8O26]·2H2O (4) (where L1 =Enrofloxacin; L2 =Pipemidic Acid; L3 =Norfloxacin; L4 =Enoxacin), have been synthesized and characterized by routine physical methods and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In compound 1, isolated Cu–Enrofloxacin coordination subunits array the both sides of β-Mo8O26, forming 3D supramolecular structure via noncovalent interactions. And the Cu–Pipemidic Acid subunits covalently link δ-Mo8O26 to form 3D supramolecular structures via short interactions in 2. In 3, the Cu–Norfloxacin motif exhibits 1D chain structure, and the tetra-dentate β-[Mo8O26]4− clusters interact with neighboring chains to construct a 2D sheet. Similar to that of 3, the Cu–Enoxacin subunit in 4 exhibits 1D chain structure, and the bi-dentate β-[Mo8O26]4− clusters interact with neighboring chains to construct a 2D sheet. Due to the introduction of different drug molecules, the octamolybdates POMs exhibit different isomers and structures, which bring different properties. The antitumor activities of compounds 1–4 in vitro were studied by MTT experiments, and the results show that introduction of different drug molecules onto the polyoxoanion surface can affect their antitumor activities. Abstract: Two new compounds based on polyoxometalates (POMs) and the quinolone antibacterial drug pipemidic acid (HPPA), {[Ni(PPA)2]H4[SiW12O40]}·HPPA·3H2O (1), and {[Zn(PPA)2]2H4[SiW12O40]}·3H2O (2), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by routine technique. Single-crystal X-Ray diffraction analysis shows that compound 1 is constructed by Keggin clusters grafted by binuclear nickel clusters, isolated HPPA and water molecules, while compound 2 consists of Keggin clusters grafted by binuclear zinc clusters and water molecules. Due to the selection of different transition metal (TM) ions, compounds 1 and 2 exhibit different structures and antitumor activities. Compound 1 possesses 0D structure and shows no antitumor activities. However, compound 2 possesses 1D structure and exhibits higher antitumor activities than its parent compound. The results show that introduction of different TM-PPA moieties onto the polyoxoanion surface can affect not only the final structures but also their antitumor activities. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
