This paper gives a brief overview of ISSTs activities regarding the engineering of complex computing systems on the basis of the Eureka Software Factory's Conceptual Reference Model (ESF CoRe). As an applied research institute for software engineering and systems engineering ISST works traditionally on the develpment of concepts and solutions for large distributed systems. Being involved in the Eureka Software Factory project form the very beginning, ISST has significantly contributed to the definition of the CoRe model which provides now the basis for the engineering of complex distributed systems within the institute. A selection of these projects and results is briefly described.

This paper describes work coordination support in distributed systems that are based on a Kernel/2r framework. Kernel/2r implements the Conceptual Reference Model CoRe of the EUREKA Software Factory project (ESF). The ESF CoRe identifies different integration stages that cover the cooperation of people, man-machine dialogue, and the integration of tools. Kernel/2r provides a set of process engines that control the execution of process fragments. Those form a part of an overall process model which defines the coordinated performance of activities on the different CoRe integration stages.

Kernel/2r repräsentiert eine Software-Infrastruktur, die als Grundlage für die Erstellung verteilter Multi-User/Multi-Role Anwendungssysteme. Er bietet integrierte Unterstützung bei der Kommunikation und Koordination in einer verteilten Umgebung: Prozeßintegration (graphische Definition/Darstellung, Validierung, Simulation, Ausführung/Überwachung) Unterstützung von Gruppenarbeit, d.h. Kooperation von Personen (Triggern und Synchronisieren von Aktionen) Individuelle Arbeitsunterstützung (Multi-View Agenda, Rollen-Konzept, Automatisierung der Routinetätigkeiten) Interoperabilität, d.h. Kooperation von Werkzeugen (Non-Standard Transaktionen, Verteilungstransparenz, Daten- und Kontroll-Integration) Kommunikations-Unterstützung (Bereitstellung verschiedener Kommunikationskanäle bis hin zum Dokumenten und Aufgaben-Transfer/Workflow) Online-Konfigurierbarkeit (Prozeßmodell, Erweiterung um Komponenten, Dienste).
