Highlights: [•] Evaluated status of fungal growth in trees inoculated with Fomitopsis pinicola. [•] Treatment trees had a greater frequency of F. pinicola conks than control trees. [•] Western hemlocks had a higher proportion of fungal growth than Douglas-fir trees. [•] Treated trees had more woodpecker excavation/foraging activity than control trees.
