This paper describes a four-port MIMO antenna array design featuring bow-tie-shaped slot-loaded patches with wideband capabilities that cover the frequency range from 24.2 GHz to 30.8 GHz. The proposed antenna design is printed on an FR4 substrate and occupies an area of 25 × 24 mm2. The MIMO antenna consists of four antenna arrays that are symmetrically placed in an upper-lower configuration. The bow-tie-shaped slots loaded radiators are separated horizontally by 3.48 mm and vertically by 5.94 mm. Each antenna array contains two elements that are separated by a distance of wavelength/4. The suggested MIMO antenna array delivers a high gain of 19.09 dB at 27.8 GHz and has a bandwidth of 6.6 GHz that covers the frequency band of 24.2–30.8 GHz. The research demonstrates the quality of the proposed MIMO antenna through various diversity parameters such as mutual coupling, port correlation, diversity gain, and data rate that can be transmitted over a communication medium. The simulation results are validated and found to be consistent with the experimental results. The presented antenna covers the entire bandwidth allocated to different regions, including Europe (24.25–27.5 GHz), Sweden (26.5–27.5 GHz), USA (27.5–28.35 GHz), China (24.25–27.5 GHz), Japan (27.5–28.28 GHz), and Korea (26.5–29.5 GHz). Any wireless communication system's performance depends on channel parameters' accuracy. The classical Rayleigh and Nakagami-m research subjects remain vital even in the most modern millimeter-wave (mm-wave) applications. This research aims to create a generalized cumulative distribution function for describing random changes in wireless channels. It is vital to have a suitable channel representation model to represent varied fifth-generation applications to ease network implementation. This study provides mm-wave measurement data at 28 GHz carrier frequencies in line of sight and non-line of sight propagation. Lognormal, Nakagami, Gaussian, Weibull, and Rayleigh distributions outperform the proposed model's universal exponential density function. The experimental data verified the introduced method. In this study, a metamaterial-based LTCC compressed Luneburg lens was designed, manufactured and measured. The lens was designed at 60 GHz to utilize the unlicensed mm-wave spectrum available for short-range high-capacity wireless communication networks. The transformation optics method was applied to ensure the compression of the Luneburg lens antenna and thus maintain a low-profile structure. The two different types of unit cells for low and high permittivity regions were considered. The parametric study of the effect of compression on lens performance was presented. The antenna is implemented with a standard high-permittivity LTCC process, and details of the manufacturing process for the metamaterial lens are discussed. The low-profile lens is thinner than 2 mm and measures 19 mm in diameter. A size reduction of 63.6% in comparison with a spherical lens was achieved. The near-field to far-field mm-wave measurement technique is presented, and the measurement results show a peak antenna gain of 16 dBi at 60 GHz and a beam-scanning capacity with 1 dB scan loss within a 50° field of view. The high gain, high speed/data rate, high capacity, and beamforming antennas are required for the present generation of mobile and wireless applications to satisfy the exponentially growing demands of the users. This paper presents low mutual coupling multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) array antenna for millimetre-wave (mmw) application. The MIMO-array beamforming antenna with 2:1 VSWR band is proposed for 28.0 GHz and covers 27.04–28.35 GHz frequency band, which is suitable for mm-wave n261 5G-band which cover the frequency range from 27.5–28.35 GHz. It consists of 2 × 12 antenna array elements and the prototype is designed on low loss Rogers Duroid 5880 substrate of size 51.45 × 36.87 mm 2. The beamforming MIMO antenna covers ± 20 0 main lobe directions. The mutual coupling at the MIMO-array ports is less than 28.0 dB. The radiation efficiency and the gain in the presented band are more than 93.0% and more than 13.99 dBi. The ECC in the presented frequency band is ≤ 10 - 4 , which is one of the advantages of the proposed design. As the demand for high data rates is increasing day by day, fifth-generation (5G) becomes the leading-edge technology in wireless communications. The main objectives of the 5G communication system are to enhance the data rates (up to 20 Gbps) and capacity, ultra-low latency (1 ms), high reliability, great flexibility, and enhance device to device communication. The mentioned objectives lead to the hunting of the millimeter-wave frequency range which lies from 30 to 300 GHz for 5G wireless communications. To design such high capacity, low latency, and flexible systems, antenna design is one of the crucial parts. In this paper, a survey is presented on various antenna designs with their fabrication on different types of substrates such as Rogers RT/duroid 5880, Rogers RO4003C, Taconic TLY-5, etc., at different 5G frequency bands. The different configurations of antennas that covered antenna arrays, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas, phased antennas, and beamforming antennas are discussed in detail with their applications. The design of MIMO antennas in the 5G frequency band occupied less space so mutual coupling reduction techniques are required for maintaining the required gain, efficiency, and isolation. In the mm-wave frequency band, the rectifier’s sensitivity is the bottleneck of a wireless-powered IoT transponder’s distance. At a meter’s distance, the received power is weak, and transistors in a front end of a wireless power receiver operate in the weak inversion region. This article presents a mathematical analysis of the mm-wave multi-stage rectifier in the low-power region. A design methodology of a 57–64-GHz fully integrated eight-stage rectifier with a bulk-drain connection in 40-nm CMOS technology is presented. Parasitic effects on a multi-stage rectifier are analyzed. Based on the analysis, an intrinsic threshold voltage modulation is applied to improve the sensitivity. A tree-type power splitter is also proposed for the RF power signal’s phase balance. With this method, the RF signal arrives at each stage with an equal phase, and its suppression at the output is improved by 16 dB. This mm-wave rectifier achieves −7.1-dBm input sensitivity at 57 GHz with 1-V dc output voltage. The overall sensitivity from 57 to 64 GHz is better than −4.5 dBm. Compared to other mm-wave silicon-based rectifier state of the arts, the proposed mm-wave rectifier achieves better sensitivity while maintaining a compact size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, mm–wave low cost single and multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) planar microstrip antenna suitable for futuristic K–(18–26.5GHz), K a –band (26.5–40GHz) and local multipoint distribution systems (LMDS) applications is presented. The proposed structure achieves impedance bandwidth of 22.77 GHz (17.23–40GHz) with a peak gain of 13.69 dBi that notably covers the LMDS modern wireless communication application requirement. This achieves 5 dBi gain-bandwidth of 9.07 GHz (26.77–35.85GHz) and 17 GHz (19–36GHz) for single element and MIMO antenna with four elements in cascaded form respectively. The improvement in gain and impedance bandwidth is augmented after exciting multiple resonances of antenna by etching of two 3-armed H-shaped slots (3-AHSS) and inverted T-shaped slots (ITSS) symmetrically in the patch. With these etchings the copper losses and vertical components of current are controlled. The fabricated prototype of size 37 × 15 m m 2 is connected through a mm–wave supporting frequency connector of 2.92 mm and 50 Ω coaxial type to Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) Bench of modal number Rohde and Schwarz (ZNB–40) for measurement of performance parameters and it is found to be in good promise with simulated results. The application of millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequencies in communication has the potential to address the ever-growing data traffic requirements of next-generation wireless communication devices. However, owing to their high directivity and high penetration loss, directional mm-wave beams are vulnerable to blockages caused by users' bodies and ambient obstacles. Further development of indoor mm-wave communication is essential, as the majority of data traffic is generated in indoor environments. In previous studies, the mm-wave blockage problem was primarily considered in outdoor scenarios, whereas in the present study, online learning-based beam and blockage prediction in an indoor hotspot (InH) scenario was investigated. During an offline training phase, we constructed a fingerprinting database consisting of user locations along with their respective data traffic demands and corresponding blockage statuses with optimal beam indices. Following its creation, the fingerprinting database was used to train the weights and bias of a properly designed deep neural network (DNN). During a subsequent online learning phase, the trained DNN was fed user locations and corresponding data traffic demands at the served user equipment to output optimal beam indices and blockage statuses. System-level simulations were conducted to assess the accuracy of blockage prediction based on 3GPP's new radio channel and blockage models in InH environments. Simulation results revealed that the proposed scheme was capable of predicting mm-wave blockages with an accuracy of > 90%. Fifth-generation technology is not fully deployed in the world wireless communication till date. Millimeter-wave (mm-wave) band needs to be used due to plenty of available bandwidth and for achieving the goals of 5G such as greater data rate, ultra-high-speed video broadcasting, low latency services, and many more. Wideband antenna is required for 5G applications to access the high speed, low latency Internet services, and ultra-high-definition video streaming. Various bandwidth enhancement techniques have been reported by the researchers for microstrip antennas operating at microwave bands. High link losses, small wavelength, limited coverage, and environmental losses are the major challenges of mm-wave band. To mitigate these issues and satisfy 5G standard, an antenna with wide bandwidth, high gain, narrow steerable beam, high isolation, low side lobe levels, and multiband characteristics is required. Modifications in conventional antenna design techniques are required to achieve broader bandwidth along with stable radiation characteristics, improved gain, and low side lobe levels at mm-wave frequencies. We present a photonically-excited antenna array at E-band for scanning by beam switching in wireless links. First, we discuss the proposed technique applied to photonic-enabled (sub)millimeter-wave transmitters. Next, we present our implementation; it consists of two sub-arrays of stacked patches as primary feeds of a Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) lens, with one photodiode feeding each sub-array. To validate the assembly, the return loss and radiation patterns have been measured for one of the sub-arrays excited with a coplanar probe. In turn, the lens illuminated by one of the sub-arrays yields a directivity of 27 dBi. The radiation patterns measured for the transmitter module (including the lens) are in very good agreement with full-wave simulations, and they show that excitation of one of either sub-arrays allows beam switching between $\pm 2.7^\circ$ with a beam crossover at $-3\, \mathrm{dB}$. Finally, we have tested the transmitter in a 0.6 m wireless link. Depending on the position of the detector and on which sub-array is excited, we have accomplished 5 Gbps transmission for on-off-keying modulation and direct detection (BER $=10^{-11}$). One of the leading candidates for the next fifth generation of (5G) and body-centric wireless communications is millimeter-wave frequencies. In this study, a wideband tunable metamaterial (MTM) consisting of T-H shaped symmetric resonator is presented for body-centric applications operating in the millimeter-wave frequency band centered at 28 GHz. The characteristics of the proposed MTM are examined through wave propagation in both Z and X directions. It has a wide operating frequency range of 5.6 GHz for waves travelling along the Z-axis, with DNG characteristics at 26.2 GHz resonance frequency. However, it represents a negative epsilon metamaterial (ENG) range during X-axis wave propagation in the 25–29.4 GHz frequency range. The metamaterial is constructed on a Rogers (RT-5880) substrate and has a compact size, with overall dimensions of 0.420 λ o × 0.420 λ o. A proposed Y-shaped antenna is developed with a compact size of 1.36 λ o × 1.82 λ o to cover the 5G at 28 GHz. The single-Y-shaped antenna consists of a radiating patch, Rogers substrate, full ground plane, air bandgap (ABG), and array of DNG MTM. Thus, the array of MTM has been applied to validate the effect in the overall antenna performance such as gain which has been increased from 5.5 dBi to 8.5 dBi. The experimental, simulated results, and equivalent circuit model using Advanced Design Software (ADS) for validation functions showed that the completed results are comparable. The proposed mm-wave metamaterial is expected to be a good candidate for modern 5G wireless communication system components, especially to enhance the antenna gain and isolation. Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication systems mandate strict power and area requirements for receiver (RX) front ends, while noise performance can be relaxed due to averaging over the array. To address these needs at mm-waves, we propose an integrated mixer-first RX, leveraging frequency-translational feedback and passive voltage gain, to minimize the RX power consumption. An analytical model is developed, thus providing useful intuition on optimal design choices. A 28-nm CMOS prototype achieves S11< −10 dB, NF < 10 dB, and ~20-dB conversion gain over all the mm-wave $E$ -band (71–95 GHz), while consuming only 12 mW including the local oscillator buffers. A two element multiband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system with low specific absorption rate is proposed for Ka-band space satellite, millimeter-wave (mm-wave), fifth-generation (5G), and future sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication applications. The essential characteristics of both 5G and future 6G communications can be fulfilled by the proposed MIMO antenna design. The proposed MIMO antenna system has significant advantage of covering four relevant and usable frequency bands, i.e., 16 GHz, 25.5 GHz, 28 GHz, and 32 GHz used for the above mentioned applications. The design of the presented antenna looks like a vertical Yagi-Uda antenna with L-shaped ladder. Moreover, two circular slots and a slotted vertical stub are etched in a partially shared ground. The complete electrical dimension of the presented antenna is 6.8 λ 0 × 5. 7 λ 0 × 0. 068 λ 0 , calculated at resonating frequency 25.5 GHz, where λ 0 is wavelength in free space. The geometry of the presented antenna is fabricated using Rogers RO4350TM with dielectric constant (ϵ r) of 3.48, a loss tangent of 0.0025, and the substrate thickness of 0.8 mm. The presented MIMO antenna is excited with a 3 mm wide microstrip feed line having 50 Ω characteristics matched impedance. In terms of performance, the proposed antenna has achieved a reflection coefficient < - 10 dB, and isolation < -15 dB in all the resonating bands, radiation efficiency varies 72%–84%, impedance bandwidth of 4.6 GHz, 1.5 GHz, 1.11 GHz, and 7.5 GHz, and realized gain of 10.18, 12.05, 13.07, & 5.55 dBi is also achieved at frequencies 16 GHz, 25.5 GHz, 28 GHz, and 32 GHz. The achieved values for various MIMO matrices are envelope correlation coefficient > 0.0048, diversity gain of 9.98 dB, channel capacity loss < 0.00023 bits/s/Hz, and mean effective gain < -6 dB. This paper reports on the first demonstration of an experimental millimeter‐wave (mm‐wave) beamforming based on the conformal Rotman lens. The passive switched‐beam network is intended for operation in the 28‐GHz band, covering the 18‐38 GHz range, for the deployment in the fifth generation (5G) subsystems. The primary objective of this work is to conduct the feasibility of designing a beamforming network (BFN) based on the liquid‐crystal polymer substrate, and to evaluate the performances in terms of the scattering (S)‐parameters and surface currents for the proposed flexural case of the convex‐circumferential bending. A prototype has been accurately fabricated, and a setup has also been deployed to conduct the measurements. The performance in terms of the linear progressive phase behavior, as the main figure of merit, has been shown. A U-shaped antenna is printed on polytetrafluoroethylene film, deposited on a copper base having air cavity inside, using thin film micro-strip technology. This paper presents the first wirelessly synchronized multichip array (WSMA) in 65-nm CMOS. The proposed architecture makes use of a central wireless signal to synchronize an mm-wave array, eliminating the need for connecting wires between the array elements. Wireless injection locking of a single chip is successfully demonstrated, and a 3-dB linewidth of 400 Hz at a carrier frequency of 50 GHz is achieved (stability ratio of 8 ppb). In addition, a two-element WSMA with an array aperture greater than 20 wavelengths is demonstrated using the proposed transceiver architecture. The reported transceiver includes a receiving on-chip antenna, a low-noise amplifier, an injection-locked voltage-controlled oscillator, a buffer amplifier, an in-phase/quadrature generator, a phase shifter, a power amplifier, and a transmitting on-chip antenna. The chip is fabricated in a 65-nm CMOS process and occupies an area of 1.7 mm $\times 3.8$ mm. This paper presents an overview of the research work currently being performed within the frame of project DAAB and its successor DAAB-TX towards the integration of ultra-wideband transceivers operating at mm-wave frequencies and capable of data rates up to 100 Gbits-1. Two basic systemarchitectures are being considered: integrating a broadband antenna with a distributed amplifier and integrate antennas centered at adjacent frequencies with broadband active combiners or dividers. The paper discusses in detail the design of such systems and their components, fromthe distributed amplifiers and combiners, to the broadband silicon antennas and their single-chip integration. All components are designed for fabrication in a commercially available SiGe:C BiCMOS technology. The presented results represent the state of the art in their respective areas: 170 GHz is the highest reported bandwidth for distributed amplifiers integrated in Silicon; 89 GHz is the widest reported bandwidth for integrated-system antennas; the simulated performance of the two antenna integrated receiver spans 105 GHz centered at 148GHz, which would improve the state of the art by a factor in excess of 4 even against III-V implementations, if confirmed by measurements. Hybrid wired-wireless Network-on-Chip (WiNoC) has emerged as an alternative solution to the poor scalability and performance issues of conventional wireline NoC design for future System-on-Chip (SoC). Existing feasible wireless solution for WiNoCs in the form of millimeter wave (mm-Wave) relies on free space signal radiation which has high power dissipation with high degradation rate in the signal strength per transmission distance. Moreover, over the lossy wireless medium, combining wireless and wireline channels drastically reduces the total reliability of the communication fabric. Surface wave has been proposed as an alternative wireless technology for low power on-chip communication. With the right design considerations, the reliability and performance benefits of the surface wave channel could be extended. In this paper, we propose a surface wave communication fabric for emerging WiNoCs that is able to match the reliability of traditional wireline NoCs. First, we propose a realistic channel model which demonstrates that existing mm-Wave WiNoCs suffers from not only free-space spreading loss (FSSL) but also molecular absorption attenuation (MAA), especially at high frequency band, which reduces the reliability of the system. Consequently, we employ a carefully designed transducer and commercially available thin metal conductor coated with a low cost dielectric material to generate surface wave signals with improved transmission gain. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed communication fabric can achieve a 5 dB operational bandwidth of about 60 GHz around the center frequency (60 GHz). By improving the transmission reliability of wireless layer, the proposed communication fabric can improve maximum sustainable load of NoCs by an average of $20.9$ and $133.3$ percent compared to existing WiNoCs and wireline NoCs, respectively. This paper presents a 67GHz LC oscillator exploiting a three-spiral transformer and implemented in 65nm bulk complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology by STMicroelectronics. The three-spiral transformer allows operating with a lower voltage supply, still obtaining good phase noise performance, and achieving a compact design. Measured performances when supplied with 1.2 V are: oscillation frequency of 67 GHz, phase noise ( PN) equal to −96 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz frequency offset from the carrier, power consumption ( PC) equal to 19.2 mW and figure of merit ( FOM) equal to −179.7 dB/Hz. High performance UAV-assisted communications system using simultaneous wireless information and power transmission (SWIPT) in mm-wave band is presented. UAV is a moving relay powered from a ground source through a power-splitting mechanism. In mm-wave band we utilize antenna array to increase the antenna gain while keeping array size small and practical. The radiation pattern of the UAV antenna is continuously adjusted to peak towards the source and destination. Two array geometries, a line and a cross, are designed for UAV antenna. We achieve near optimal pattern, utilizing innovative low power switches instead of phase shifters which are high power consuming components and using them here defies the purpose. We maximize the end-to-end cooperative throughput by optimizing the UAV power profile, power-splitting ratio profile, antenna weights (0, 1), and UAV trajectory for amplify-and-forward (AF) protocol. We consider two cases. Case1: UAV transmits and receives data simultaneously along two predefined trajectories. The antenna weights for line and cross arrays are optimized utilizing genetic algorithm. The power profile and, power-splitting ratio profile are also optimized using the penalty method. Case2: UAV accumulates the data and power along an optimal trajectory until it reaches the vicinity of target, when it transmits data at high bit rate. Here we define the optimization of parameters mentioned in Case1, while at an optimal point along the trajectory, as sub-problem1, and finding the next optimal point as sub-problem2. Sub-problem1 is solved using the genetic algorithm and dual decomposition method. Sub-problem2 is then solved using successive concave optimization. The overall problem, i.e. cooperative throughput, is solved by reciprocal iteration over the two sub problems. The simulation results show the proposed mm-wave band cross array antenna and switches can overcome the high frequency propagation losses, hence, achieving higher power harvest and data rates. This paper proposes a mm-wave frequency generation technique that improves its phase noise (PN) performance and power efficiency. The main idea is that a fundamental 20 GHz signal and its sufficiently strong third harmonic at 60 GHz are generated simultaneously in a single oscillator. The desired 60 GHz local oscillator (LO) signal is delivered to the output, whereas the 20 GHz signal can be fed back for phase detection in a phase-locked loop. Third-harmonic boosting and extraction techniques are proposed and applied to the frequency generator. A prototype of the proposed frequency generator is implemented in digital 40 nm CMOS. It exhibits a PN of -100\;\textdBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from 57.8 GHz and provides 25% frequency tuning range (TR). The achieved figure-of-merit (FoM) is between 179 and 182 dBc/Hz. Frequency pulling of an oscillator integrated in a quadrature phase-shift keying wireless transmitter degrades the performance of the wireless system. This paper analyses the behavior of an oscillator in the presence of coupling between the oscillator and a power amplifier or antenna. Symbol switching in the modulator will cause frequency shifts in the oscillator at the modulation frequency. A new architecture for a 120 GHz quadrature frequency generator with large tuning range and immunity against PA-VCO coupling is presented. Combining the output signals of two independent oscillators, the pulling effect is removed and the frequency generator can be integrated with a PA and an antenna on the same chip. This architecture also makes quadrature generation with large tuning range feasible at 120 GHz. This paper presents high gain and compact Transmit/Receive (TX/RX) integrated antennas in a standard BiCMOS 130nm technology for millimeter-scale millimeter-wave (mm-wave) applications, including high data rate radios and high resolution radars. The proposed TX/RX antenna module utilizes an integrated dipole antenna for the receiver and a slot antenna for the transmitter, placed orthogonally. The achieved gain and radiation efficiency are 5.7dBi and 41.3% for the slot antenna, respectively, and 6dBi and 39% for the dipole antenna. The design of short-range high-speed wireless networks for the 60 GHz band requires consideration of factors from a wide range of disciplines. Key system choices that make significant differences to the final cost and performance include the type of antennas, multiple access strategy and channel coding. In this paper we assume a coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system providing high-speed communications between low-cost terminals over indoor 60 GHz channels that are frequently non-line-of-sight. Under constraints of low transmit power and high path attenuation, we consider two practical options for using multiple low-cost ‘bond-wire’ antennas, compared with ideal monopole antennas at each terminal. For specified multiple access and channel coding schemes, we show that a sectorized strategy based on simple 2 element phased arrays can provide substantial benefits in system performance and flexibility. A rectangular dielectric resonator based connected ground quad-elements MIMO antenna fed using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed for millimeter-wave 5G application. SIW in TM 10 mode was used to excite multiple modes in the dielectric resonator to achieve multiple resonance. An individual element of the proposed MIMO antenna is arranged in a cross shaped structure to achieve polarization and spatial diversity. The proposed MIMO system operates at dual operating frequency bands having impedance bandwidth of 24% (24.50–27.50 GHz) and 12% (33–37 GHz). The isolation better than 22 dB and 17 dB is achieved throughout the proposed bands without using any additional isolation techniques. The proposed MIMO antenna has a peak gain of 9.9 dB and minimum radiation efficiency of 96%. It radiates in a broadside direction with acceptable MIMO diversity results where envelope correlation coefficient is below 0.15, channel capacity loss is below 0.6 bits/sec/Hz, diversity gain of 9.98 dB, and total active reflection coefficient below −10 dB over the desired band of operation. The prototype of the quad-elements SIW fed DRA MIMO was manufactured after which the antenna and diversity performance parameters were measured and satisfactory correlation is observed. A realistic performance assessment of any wireless communication system requires the use of a fading channel model that reflects its main characteristics. The traditional Rayleigh and Nakagami-m models have been (and still are) the basis of most theoretical research on wireless technologies today, even for emerging technologies, such as millimeter-wave communications (mm-Wave). In this article, we show that the fluctuating multiple-ray (FMR) and κ - μ shadowed models had a better fit (i.e., lowest mean square error statistical test) to field measurements in outdoor environments at 28 GHz than the conventional channel models. • To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that proposes a solution for persistent jamming attacks by re-using Design for Testability (DFT) infrastructure for multichip communication. • The paper proposes a novel dynamically reconfigurable MAC and the corresponding synchronization mechanism for all Wireless Interfaces (WI)s under jamming conditions. • An Adversarial ML (AML)-based mechanism for robust threat detection and recovery from persistent jamming-based Denial of Service (DoS) attacks has been presented in the paper. • A novel communication protocol necessary to ensure robust communication even under a persistent jamming-based DoS attack has been developed. • Finally, we analyzed the performance degradation of the proposed security mechanism for different wired and wireless multichip systems under application-specific traffic patterns. Performance of the compute-intensive multichip platforms such as micro-servers and embedded systems are limited by the latency and power hungry chip-to-chip interconnections. Millimeter wave (mm-wave) wireless interconnection networks have emerged as an energy-efficient and low-latency solution for such multichip system communication. We refer such multichip systems with in-package mm-wave wireless interconnect as Wireless Network-in-Package (WiNiP). Despite providing performance enhancements, wireless channel, being an unguided medium, introduces potential security vulnerabilities inherited from traditional wireless networks such as jamming induced Denial-of-Service (DoS) and eavesdropping. Securing the systems against such induced threats often introduce large overheads and performance penalties. To address these challenges, we propose a WiNiP architecture that reuses the in-built Design for Testability (DFT) hardware for securing against external and Hardware Trojans (HT) induced internal attacks. The proposed architecture is capable of securing against adversaries with a reconfigurable wireless interconnection (AWARe-Wi). We deploy machine learning (ML) classifier to detect the threats. In addition, for a robust threat detection, we introduce an Adversarial ML (AML)-based approach in this work. To enable sustainable multichip communication in such systems even under jamming attack from both internal and external attackers, we design a reconfigurable Medium Access Control (MAC) and a suitable communication protocol. The simulation results show that, the ML and AML classifiers can achieve an accuracy of 99.87% and 95.95% respectively for attack detection while the proposed WiNiP can sustain chip-to-chip communication even under persistent jamming attack with an average 1.44 × and 1.56 × degradation in latency for internal and external attacks respectively for application-specific traffic patterns. Millimeter-wave wireless networks of the new fifth generation (5G) have become a primary focus in the development of the information and telecommunication industries. It is expected that 5G wireless networks will increase the data rates and reduce network latencies by an order of magnitude, which will create new telecommunication services for all sectors of the economy. New electronic components such as 28 GHz (27.5 to 28.35 GHz) single-chip transmit radio frequency (RF) front-end monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) will be required for the performance and power consumption of millimeter-wave (mm-wave) 5G communication systems. This component includes a 6-bit digital phase shifter, a driver amplifier and a power amplifier. The output power P3dB and power-added efficiency (PAE) are 29 dBm and 19.2% at 28 GHz.
