On-body health monitoring involves continuous sensing and wireless data transmissions, which severely impacts the battery life of wearable devices. However, rapid advances in kinetic energy harvesting (KEH) soon might obviate the need for battery recharging or replacement by harnessing human motion energy. The authors discuss the challenges and opportunities of KEH technology to help realize the ultimate vision of fully autonomous IoT-based healthcare. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
