This study explores the subjective well-being, overall life satisfaction and perceived social support of Brazilian adolescents by analysing different models that explain the relationships among these three constructs. The sample is comprised of 1,588 adolescents (aged 12-16, 65.5% female), who answered the Personal Well-Being Index (PWI), a measure of Perceived Social Support of Family and Friends, and also an Overall Life Satisfaction single-item scale (OLS). MANOVA and ANOVA were used to assess the differences between groups, with respect to gender, it is observed that girls present lower means than boys for the OLS. Considering age, there was a significant decrease in the mean of the PWI with age. Boys present lower means of friends' social support. Structural Equation Modelling was used to test theoretical frameworks on data. After analysing different models, the best fit model is presented using the PWI as a mediating factor between social support and satisfaction with life. The perception of social support from family and friends results to be a significant dimension of well-being among Brazilian adolescents. La muestra se compone de 1.588 adolescentes (12 a 16 años, 65,5% mujeres), que contestaron el Indice personal de Bienestar (PWI), una medida de apoyo social percibido de la familia y amigos, y también un solo elemento de satisfacción general Vida escala (OLS). Se realizaron análisis de MANOVA y ANOVA para evaluar las diferencias entre los grupos, con respecto al género, se observa que las niñas presentan medios más bajos que los chicos de la MCO. Se presentó una disminución significativa en la media de la PWI con la edad. Los niños presentan medios más bajos de apoyo social de amigos. El modelo de Ecuaciones Estructurales se utilizó para probar los marcos teóricos sobre los datos. Después de analizar los diferentes modelos, el mejor ajuste del modelo se presenta con el PWI como un factor mediador entre el apoyo social y la satisfacción con la vida. La percepción de apoyo social de la familia y amigos resulta ser una dimensión importante de bienestar entre los adolescentes brasileños. La importancia del apoyo social para el bienestar subjetivo se explica por la identificación de la forma en que contribuye a la satisfacción con la vida en general de los adolescentes

Considering the importance of self-concept in the well-being of adolescents, as well as the need for reliable scales that allow its evaluation, the objectives of the present study are to verify the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Self-Concept Scale—its structure and internal consistency – in a sample of Brazilian adolescents, and to assess the scalar invariance of the scale considering the adolescents' gender. The study included 1,588 adolescents between 12 and 16 years of age, with 65.5% being female. The results indicate that the four-dimensional (academic, family, social and physical), 20-item version of the Multidimensional Self-Concept Scale presents appropriate reliability and fit indices when performing confirmatory factor analysis for the sample. There is also factorial invariance between boys and girls tested with multi-group confirmatory factor analysis Considerando-se a importância do autoconceito no bem-estar dos adolescentes, bem como a necessidade de escalas confiáveis que permitam avaliá-lo, o presente estudo tem como objetivos verificar as propriedades psicométricas da Escala de Autoconceito Multidimensional, sua estrutura e consistência interna em uma amostra de adolescentes brasileiros e verificar a invariância fatorial da escala considerando-se o sexo dos adolescentes. Participaram deste estudo 1.588 adolescentes com idades entre 12 e 16 anos, sendo 65,5% meninas. 4. Adolescent Well-Being and its Relationship with Spirituality and Religiosity: Systematic Review of recent Literature

The general objective of this study is to verify the relationship between spirituality and religiosity and the well-being of healthy adolescents in recent studies. Through a systematic review, 26 empirical articles, published from 2012 to 2016, were selected in six databases (Scielo, Lilacs, Medline, PsycInfo, Scopus and Web of Science). The representation of several samples was identified, with the USA with the largest number of articles; there is also an increase in the number of articles in the years investigated. Regarding the methodology, 20 papers presented a quantitative design, five were qualitative, and only one adopted a mixed design. Of the total, three had a longitudinal approach. The articles were also analyzed in relation to their conceptual definition of well-being, spirituality and religiosity, their analyses, and the results obtained. Quantitative data point to relationships, generally positive from low to moderate, between religiosity and spirituality and well-being. As far as qualitative data, the social support of the religious community, the help to deal with difficult times, and spiritual faith as a guide to behavior and decision-making stand out as factors related to well-being. Limitations in the studies were pointed out as well as suggestions for future research. El objetivo general de este estudio es verificar la relación entre la espiritualidad y la religiosidad y el bienestar de adolescentes sanos en estudios recientes. A través de una revisión sistemática, se seleccionaron en seis bases de datos electrónicas (Scielo, Lilacs, Medline, PsycInfo, Scopus y Web of Science) 26 artículos empíricos publicados de 2012 a 2016. Se identificó la representación de diferentes muestras, con los EE.UU. con un mayor número de artículos, así como un crecimiento del número de artículos en los años investigados. En cuanto a la metodología, 20 artículos adoptaron un diseño cuantitativo, cinco uno cualitativo y uno un diseño mixto. Del total, tres eran longitudinales. Los artículos se analizaron tomando en cuenta la definición conceptual del bienestar, la espiritualidad y la religiosidad, los análisis realizados y los resultados obtenidos. Los datos cuantitativos apuntan relaciones por lo general positivas, bajas y moderadas, entre la religiosidad y la espiritualidad con el bienestar. Con datos cualitativos, los factores relacionados con el bienestar que se encontraron fueron el apoyo social de la comunidad religiosa, la ayuda para hacer frente a las dificultades y la fe espiritual como guía para el comportamiento y la toma de decisiones. Se han señalado las limitaciones en los estudios y se han realizado sugerencias para futuras investigaciones. O objetivo geral deste estudo é verificar a relação entre a espiritualidade e a religiosidade e o bem-estar de adolescentes saudáveis em estudos recentes. Através de uma revisão sistemática foram selecionados 26 artigos empíricos de 2012 a 2016, em seis bases de dados eletrônicas (Scielo, Lilacs, Medline, PsycInfo, Scopus e Web of Science). Identificou-se a representação de diversas amostras, com os EUA com maior número de artigos, assim como um crescimento no número de artigos ao longo dos anos. Quanto à metodologia 20 artigos apresentaram delineamento quantitativo, cinco qualitativo e apenas um delineamento misto. Do total, três tiveram caráter longitudinal. Os artigos foram ainda analisados em relação à definição conceitual para bem-estar, espiritualidade e religiosidade, análises realizadas e resultados obtidos. Conclui-se a partir dos dados quantitativos que há relação entre religiosidade e espiritualidade com bem-estar e que essa relação é em geral positiva de baixa a moderada. E com os dados qualitativos observam-se como fatores relacionados ao bem-estar o apoio social da comunidade religiosa, o auxílio para lidar com momentos difíceis, a fé espiritual como guia para comportamentos e tomada de decisões. Limitações nos estudos foram apontadas assim como sugestões para pesquisas futuras.

Currently both, researchers and politicians, are interested in analyzing the many dimensions that are the components of subjective well-being of children and adolescents, since little attention has been paid by the literature to these groups, when compared with adults. In this research we analyze the cross-cultural comparability of three measures of subjective wellbeing of members of the Freshman Class of High Schools in Brazil, Chile, Spain and Romania. The multi-item scales reveal a good fit with the aggregated samples, as well as with the respective multi-group models with bounded loads, supporting the comparability across correlations and regressions performed on the populations. However, the models do not fit when both loads and constants are bounded, suggesting that the means are not comparable between countries. Also, results reveal that the scores of subjective well-being are higher than those expected from western adult populations En la actualidad, los investigadores así como los políticos están interesados en analizar las diferentes dimensiones que componen el bienestar subjetivo de los niños y los adolescentes, grupos a los cuales se les ha prestado escasa atención si se lo compara con la literatura sobre la población adulta. En esta investigación, se analiza la comparabilidad intercultural de tres escalas de bienestar subjetivo, en estudiantes del primer curso de enseñanza secundaria en Brasil, Chile, España y Rumania. Las escalas multi-ítem muestran buen ajuste con los datos de las muestras agregadas, así como con los respectivos modelos multigrupo con cargas restringidas, avalando la comparabilidad de las correlaciones y regresiones entre las poblaciones. No obstante, los modelos no ajustan con cargas y constantes restringidas, sugiriendo que las medias no son comparables entre países. Así también los resultados muestran puntuaciones en el bienestar subjetivo más altas que las esperadas en poblaciones adultas occidentales. Los resultados del modelo de ecuaciones estructurales que incluye todas las escalas sugieren que las dos escalas por ámbitos participan de un mismo supraconstructo

Most of studies with children in residential care centers in Brazil emphasize the problems associated with being in care but few investigate the well-being of these children. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate and compare the subjective well-being of children in residential care centers versus those from the general population living with their families. Subjects were two hundred and eighteen children, ages 8 to 12 (M = 10.06; SD = 1.40). Half of them are under residential care and half are living with their families. Discriminant analysis was performed using as independent variables the seven PWI-SC items, the eight GDSI domains and the OLS single-item scale, and as dependent variable the group in which the children belong (foster care/families). Results indicate that all items significantly discriminated towards children living with their families. We argue that differences may be related to transitions and life experiences prior to institutionalization. Children with fewer changes manage to maintain their social bonds and find greater consistency in care, which seems to influence their sense of well-being. We conclude that the promotion of well-being must aim at forms of care involving greater stabilit La mayoría de los estudios con niños acogidos en instituciones en Brasil destacan los problemas asociados a la acogida y pocos investigan el bienestar de estos niños. El objetivo de este estudio es investigar y comparar el bienestar subjetivo de los niños acogidos en instituciones con el bienestar de niños que viven con sus familias. Participaron 218 niños con edades entre 8 y 12 años (M = 10,06; DT = 1,40), de estos 109 acogidos en instituciones y 109 viven con sus familias. Se realizó un análisis discriminante utilizando como variables independientes los siete ítems del PWI-SC, los ocho ámbitos del GDSI y la escala de ítem-único OLS, como variable dependiente el grupo a que pertenecen los niños (acogidos/familias). Los resultados indican que todos ítems discriminan significativamente en favor de los niños que viven con sus familias. Las diferencias pueden estar relacionadas con las transiciones y experiencias de vida anteriores al acogimiento. Los niños sometidos a menos cambios consiguen mantener sus vínculos sociales y encuentran mayor coherencia en el cuidado, lo que parece tener resultados en su bienestar. Por tanto, la promoción del bienestar debe tener formas de acogimiento que impliquen una mayor estabilidad

11. Towards a socio-community model: a well-being approach.

The objective of the present study is to develop a socio-community well-being model incorporating material resources, sense of community and environment satisfaction, and to verify the relation between the overall life satisfaction and the socio-community well-being model. Participants are 1157 children with ages from 10 to 13 years old, being 54.9% girls and 45.1% boys of five cities of the Rio Grande do Sul State (Brazil). The scales used were the Sense of Community Index (SCI), the Children's Environmental Attitudes Scale (CEAS), Material Resources and Overall Life Satisfaction (OLS) scale. Results show that all parameters in the model were statistically significant, that the well-being (OLS) has a significant and positive relationship with the proposed socio-community model indicating the validity of the measure and the construct have high factor weights for the socio-community well-being. The psychometric properties of the Personal Wellbeing Index are analyzed on a Spanish and Portuguese adolescent sample. We test the reliability of the scale using Cronbach's alpha. And complementarily we analyze the item-total correlations in the different wellbeing domains included. We execute an exploratory factor analysis (principal components) and a multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The results show that Cronbach's alpha is 0.79 for the Chilean version and in the Brazilian version is 0.78. confirming adequate levels of reliability found in previous studies. Correlations between fields of well-being shows values ranging between 0.224 and 0.496 for Chile and from 0.24 to 0.46 for Brazil. The results are similar to those obtained in other countries. The monofactorial structure of the scale is confirmed. also the adjustment to the scale structure to the data of the two samples and the comparability of means of global indices. The results suggest the existence of other well-being domains that had not been considered in the original proposal of the scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Correlations between fields of well-being shows values ranging between 0.224 and 0.496 for Chile and from 0.24 to 0.46 for Brazil. The results are similar to those obtained in other countries. The monofactorial structure of the scale is cinfirmed, also the adjustment to the scale structure to the data of the two samples and the comparability of means of global indices. The results suggest the existence of other well-being domains that had not been considered in the original proposal of the scale Se analizaron las propiedades psicométricas del Índice de Bienestar Personal en una muestra de adolescentes chilenos y brasileños. Se examinó la fiabilidad de la escala mediante el alfa de Cronbach, complementándose con un análisis de las correlaciones ítem-total de los distintos ámbitos de bienestar que la componen. Se realizó un análisis factorial exploratorio (componentes principales) y un análisis factorial confirmatorio multigrupo. Los resultados arrojan un alfa de Cronbach de 0.79 para la versión chilena y de 0.78 para la versión brasileña, que confirman niveles adecuados de fiabilidad encontrados en anteriores estudios. Las correlaciones entre ámbitos de bienestar arroja valores que van entre 0.224 y 0.496 para Chile y 0.24 a 0.46 para Brasil, similares a resultados obtenidos en otros países. Se confirman la estructura monofactorial de la escala, la adecuación de la estructura de la escala para los datos de las dos muestras y la comparabilidad de las medias de sus índices globales. Los resultados permiten suponer la existencia de otros ámbitos del bienestar de los sujetos que no fueron considerados en la propuesta original de la escala

O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar a relação entre o bem-estar pessoal e o uso de estratégias de coping religioso entre crianças. A investigação teve como base dois estudos realizados a partir de uma única coleta de dados. O primeiro estudo refere-se à tradução, adaptação e validação da escala Children´s Religious Coping (CRC) e foi dividido em duas fases: (1) tradução, adaptação e teste piloto (N = 74) e (2) Aplicação e Validação da Escala CRC. Participaram da pesquisa 1612 crianças entre 08 e 13 anos (M = 10,2; DP = 1,47), sendo 54,7% meninas, matriculadas em escolas públicas (54,6%) e particulares (45,4%) do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Foram realizadas Análises Fatoriais Exploratórias e Confirmatórias para verificar a estrutura fatorial da escala, além de análise da consistência interna. Os resultados indicaram uma composição da CRC com duas dimensões: Coping Religioso Positivo (CRP), formada por 19 itens em três fatores, e Coping Religioso Negativo (CRN), formada por 12 itens em três fatores. Os índices de consistência interna apresentaram bons níveis tanto para a escala geral ( = 0,90), como para as duas dimensões ( = 0,92 para CRP; e = 0,81 para CRN). Pode-se afirmar que a escala apresentou bons indicadores de funcionamento para essa amostra, mostrando-se um instrumento promissor para futuras pesquisas. O segundo estudo teve como objetivo principal avaliar a relação entre o bem-estar pessoal e o uso de estratégias de coping religioso pelas crianças. Foram utilizados como instrumentos a escala CRC adaptada e o Índice de Bem-estar Pessoal para Crianças (PWISC). Através de análises descritivas foram avaliados o índice de bem-estar pessoal e a satisfação com diferentes domínios da vida. Também foram descritas a frequência do uso de estratégias de coping religioso, e as situações de estresse relatadas pelas crianças. ANOVAs indicaram que o índice de bem-estar é maior entre meninos, bem como entre as crianças menores. Em relação ao uso de estratégias de coping, foram encontradas diferenças significativas por idade no uso das estratégias de CRP, indicando que à medida que a idade aumenta, diminui o uso dessas estratégias. As análises de regressão múltipla identificaram a dimensão CRP, especificamente as estratégias relacionadas à crença no apoio e proteção de Deus, como preditor de maior bem-estar, e a dimensão CRN, especificamente as estratégias relacionadas à reavaliação do estressor como uma punição, como preditor de menor bemestar. Conclui-se que as crianças fazem uso de diferentes estratégias de coping religioso ao lidarem com situações de estresse e que esse engajamento parece estar relacionado ao seu bem-estar pessoal. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the personal well-being and the use of religious coping strategies of children. The investigation was based upon two studies made from a single data collection. The first study concerns the translation, adaptation and validation of the Children’s Religious Coping Scale (CRC) and it was divided in two phases: (1) Translation, Adaptation and Pilot Test (N = 74) and (2) Application and Validation of the CRC Scale. A number of 1612 children between 08 and 13 years old (M = 10.2, SD = 1.47), of which 54.7% girls, enrolled in public (54.6%) and private (45.4%) schools of the State of Rio Grande do Sul participated in the research. Exploratory and Confirmatory Factorial Analyses were performed to verify the scale’s factor structure, besides the analysis of the internal consistency. Results indicated the CRC was composed by two dimensions: Positive Religious Coping (PRC), with 19 items in three factors, and Negative Religious Coping (NRC), consisting of 12 items in three factors. The internal consistency indices showed good levels both for the overall scale ( = .90), as well as for the two dimensions ( = .92 for PRC; and = .81 for NRC). It can be stated that the scale showed good indicators of functioning for this sample, demonstrating that it can be a promising instrument for future research. The second study aimed mainly at evaluating the relationship between personal well-being and the use of religious coping strategies by children. The instruments used were the adapted CRC scale and the Personal Wellbeing Index - School Children (PWI-SC). Personal well-being and satisfaction with different life domains were evaluated through descriptive analyzes. The frequency of the use of religious coping strategies and stressful situations reported by children were also described. ANOVAs indicated that the well-being index is higher among boys and between younger children. Regarding the use of coping strategies, significant age differences were found in the use of the PRC strategies, indicating that as age increases, the use of these strategies decreases. The multiple regression analysis identified the PRC dimension, more specifically the strategies related to the belief in the support and protection of God, as a predictor of greater well-being, and the NRC dimension, more specifically the strategies related to the revaluation of the stressor as a punishment, as a predictor of lower well-being. Our conclusion is that children make use of different religious coping strategies to deal with stressful situations and that this engagement seems to be related to their personal well-being.

15. Justiça social na adolescência : a voz dos protagonistas sobre a ética das relações comunitária

O objetivo deste estudo foi conhecer as percepções sobre justiça social dos adolescentes, de acordo com a Psicologia Crítica e o paradigma da justiça social de Isaac Prilleltensky. Buscou-se verificar também a relação percebida entre as condições de justiça social (pessoal, relacional e coletiva) e o bem-estar, analisar o protagonismo dos adolescentes frente às questões de justiça social e, também, conhecer como os adolescentes relacionam a atual conjuntura sociopolítica e cultural brasileira com os princípios de justiça social. Foram realizados 7 grupos focais, com 46 participantes no total, com idades entre 14 e 17 anos, estudantes do ensino médio de escolas públicas e particulares da rede de ensino da cidade de Lajeado/RS. O roteiro de debate dos grupos focais considerou como questão-chave a percepção dos adolescentes sobre o conceito de justiça social. Os dados coletados foram analisados qualitativamente. Foram identificados indicadores relacionados às categorias: poder, capacidade, oportunidade, classe social, dinheiro, raça, cultura, educação e aparência. Observaram-se a naturalização com relação à cultura sobre questões de preconceito racial e a necessidade de educação em valores humanos através da implantação de políticas governamentais. The purpose of this study was to understand the adolescents‟ perceptions about social justice based on Critical Psychology and social justice paradigm. In addition, this study sought to investigate the relationship between the perceived conditions of social justice (personal, relational and collective) and well-being. The work also examined the role of adolescents facing issues of social justice and (also to know) how teens relate the current sociopolitical and cultural Brazilian context with the principles of social justice. Seven focus groups were conducted with 46 total participants of both sexes, aged between 14 and 17 years. The adolescents are high school students from public and private schools of teaching network of Lajeado/RS. The script of debate in the focus groups considered as a key issue the adolescents‟ perception about the concept of social justice. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively by the method of analysis of the content. Indicators have been identified related to the categories: power, ability, opportunity, social class, money, race, culture, education, and appearance. It is observed the naturalization of culture on issues of racial prejudice and the need for education in human values through the implementation of government policies.
