Aim: This study aims to assess the influence of a newly developed pupil-optimized multifocal soft contact lens (MFSCL) in comparison to single-vision contact lenses (SVCL) on visual performance among adolescent myopes. Materials and Methods: Myopic adolescents, aged 14 to 18 years, who were habitual SVCL users, were subjected to a trial involving MFSCL with a mid-addition power. Various visual parameters including distance and near visual acuity (VA), maximum reading speed (MRS), reading acuity, contrast sensitivity, and stereoacuity under photopic conditions were measured for MFSCL and compared to SVCL. Results: No statistically significant differences were observed between SVCL and MFSCL in terms of near VA, MRS, contrast sensitivity, and stereoacuity (p>0.05 for all). However, a decrease in distance VA was noted with MFSCL (p = 0.021). Moreover, reading acuity, which denotes the smallest print size comprehensible without significant errors, was found to be smaller when using MFSCL (p<0.001). Conclusion: In adolescent myopic patients, mid-add power in MFSCL did not significantly impact near VA and contrast sensitivity when compared to SVCL, while a decrease in distance VA was observed. Bacillary layer detachment (BALAD) is a relatively new optical coherence tomography (OCT) finding described by the utilization of OCT and characterized by the separation within the photoreceptor inner segment. The most common ocular diseases associated with BALAD include Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada's disease, neovascular age-related macular degeneration, and central serous chorioretinopathy, and it is frequently observed in inflammatory, infectious, traumatic, and mass lesions of the choroid. It usually has a benign course and can resolve spontaneously or with treatment in a very short time, accompanied by an increase in visual acuity. However, its prognostic significance is still contradictory, as studies with long-term follow-up have shown that BALAD is related with subretinal fibrosis. In this review, the anatomical definition, multimodal imaging findings, course, and prognosis of BALAD in various ocular diseases are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to report the outcome of topical brinzolamide 1% treatment on macular cystoid lesions resembling retinoschisis in 4 patients diagnosed with posterior microphthalmia. The medical records of 4 patients with a clinical diagnosis of posterior microphthalmia who had started topical brinzolamide 1% treatment were reviewed. Visual acuity, central foveal thickness, and cystoid lesion area percentage were used to evaluate treatment response. In the follow-up, there was a decrease in central foveal thicknesses and cystoid lesion area percentages in both eyes of 3 of the patients. However, 1 patient showed increases in both parameters. Visual acuity remained stable in 5 eyes and increased in 3 eyes. Topical brinzolamide treatment may have some positive effects on macular cystoid lesions in selected cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
