This article discusses the manifestations of violence in Mexican youth from a socio-cultural perspective that reveals the heterogeneity of the social experience of these subjects. Our theoretical-methodological position allows us to identify youth dynamics that call for the construction of more adequate notions in order to 1) study the particularity of youth at the crossroads of age, gender, class and ethnicity, and to 2) understand to what extent the participation of youth as perpetrators and the criminalization of their cultural productions are related to the vulnerability of youth in Mexico. In this sense, the notion of de-citizenization constitutes a theoretical contribution with a critical potential for revealing legislation that violates the rights of young people. RESUMEN: En este documento se propone un modelo análisis performativo de los hechos tipificados como “justicia por mano propia”. Se cuestiona la noción de “violencia” como factor explicativo y, contrastantemente, se considera que estas manifestaciones pueden analizarse como dramatizaciones sociales que producen y recrean una imagen problematizada del “nosotros”. Se rastrean entonces diferentes narrativas constatativas, valoraciones normativas disímiles y perspectivas normativo acusatoriales que permiten comprender la manera en que estos fenómenos se constituyen en hechos sociales significativos en dos unidades de estudio (México y Colombia). “Justiça pelas próprias mãos” como performance moral na Colômbia e no México: Perspectivas analíticas para um modelo pragmático de “violência” na teoria social contemporânea propõe um modelo performativo de análise dos acontecimentos tipificados como “justiça pelas próprias mãos”. Questiona a noção de “violência” como fator explicativo e, em contraste, considera que estas manifestações podem ser analisadas como dramatizações sociais que produzem e recriam uma imagem problematizada de “nós”. Diferentes narrativas constatativas, avaliações normativas diferentes e perspectivas normativo-acusatórias são então traçadas para compreender a forma como estes fenômenos são constituídos como eventos sociais significativos em duas unidades de estudo (México e Colômbia). ‘Law Into One’s Own Hands’ as a Moral Performance in Colombia and Mexico: Analytical Perspectives for a Pragmatic Model of ‘Violence’ in Contemporary Social Theory proposes a performative model of analysis of the facts typified as “justice into one’s own hands”. It questions the notion of “violence” as an explanatory factor and, in contrast, considers that these manifestations can be analyzed as social dramatizations that produce and recreate a problematized image of “us”. Different constatative narratives, dissimilar normative valuations and accusatory normative perspectives are then traced in order to understand the way in which these phenomena are constituted as significant social facts in two study units (Mexico and Colombia).

This article analyzes the structural, institutional, and interpersonal violence that transgender women sex workers experience in Chiapas. The authors carry out a qualitative analysis using the biographical method and an intersectional approach using life stories as research techniques. Through the experiences narrated, they discuss the normative clashes that prompt the constant reaffirmation of their trans identity, intersected with the stigmas attached to sex work, revealing the processes of identity de-legitimization that creates extremely precarious, limited opportunities and life habits. This paper presents an exploratory study that analyzes the speeches media on the territorialisation of the episodes of violence in schools, in La Plata, Argentina, in the period 1993-2011. Given the characteristics of the object of inquiry the methodological approach was qualitative and the information is analyzed in the framework of the educational discourse analysis. Among the results, we observed that in the presentation of the episodes are delimited territorial boundaries and symbolic that associate the acts of violence in the school space differently. The article examines the relationship between territorial stigmatization and police violence against popular youth in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The main hypothesis is that there is a feedback between both processes: socially stigmatized neighborhoods suffer not only worse police protection, but widespread suspicion about their inhabitants, particularly young people, that reinforces the hostility and police violence directed toward youth. The pervasive suspicion about certain areasmakes it legitimate (or at least tolerable), in public opinion, to exercise certain everyday violent practices. While the actions of human rights organizations and the State to reduce the most serious form of police violence have had a positive impact, increasing security demands in the last decade have enhanced other forms of hostility and micro everyday violence. Among the youth, meanwhile, there is a growing appeal to the language of rights and against all forms of discrimination. For these reasons, such daily violence is considered increasingly unbearable. Based on field work studies in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, the article attempts to draw attention to these forms of violence for which there are few official records, warning of a pattern of conflicting relationships between popular youth and the police. RESUMEN El presente trabajo analiza las transformaciones y permanencias de lo tipificado como violento en el espacio escolar en la prensa argentina, durante el período 1993-2011. Dadas las características del objeto de indagación, el abordaje metodológico fue cualitativo y la información se analizó en el marco del análisis socioeducativo del discurso. Entre los resultados obtenidos observamos que durante los dieciocho años se visibilizan once temáticas comunes que asocian las violencias al espacio escolar Así también, se identificaron desplazamientos de sentido que asociaron las violencias a la escuela desde diferentes referentes. Por su originalidad, este estudio constituye un antecedente para futuras indagaciones sobre las representaciones mediáticas de las violencias en el espacio escolar y sus mutaciones de sentido. In previous papers we have analyzed police functions, purposes and norms as agencies of social control; historical and structural impediments in the police-state relationship and in the formation of political programs, experiences with community models of urban security and its practical results in Argentina, etc. In this paper we will emphasize the consideration of violence as a constituent element of police culture, and even more so in a police state, in its semantic multiplicity: legal, abusive, extralegal diffuse, symbolic violence (Tavares Dos Santos, 2000). On the other hand we study the construction of the "suspect" population and of the types of delinquency, realizing a critical analysis of the typologies of crime and delinquency, determining the manner in which official statistical analysis is made (what the penal and political system understand) and visualizing the omissions they include in an attempt to explain the same. (It is interesting to analyze statistics searching for the holes in empirical analysis in reference to the questions proposed and not because we are excessively positivist) It is necessary to have as a back-drop the overlapping of political programs and their consequences: one of these programs, one of zero tolerance, according to Crawford, is an erroneous and discriminatory designation of groups, which converts these happenings into selective intolerant events. Examples: the technique of "halt and frisk" and "class-cleansing" techniques in public areas and the overlooking of certain typologies such as administrative crimes, commercial fraud, contamination and health and security infractions (Wacquant, 2000). Finally we present the manner in which this selective intolerance is translated in the country, beyond political and media discourse ambiguity ("cero tolerance" is not assumed to be continually sustained) which worsen the situation of violence and criminality in the framework of a high exclusive social and economic model in which strategies are the repetitions of repetitions of reforms, grand rhetoric and technical terminology which conjecturally circle about while society observes and is absorbed in this "dislocated scenario" managed by an uncertain state. Este artículo se propone reflexionar sobre la construcción simbólica de los jóvenes como objeto de temor, en relación con la sensibilidad que se tiene sobre el delito y la violencia en los países del Cono Sur. Se utilizan datos secundarios provenientes de organismos multilaterales, gubernamentales y de una ong. En primer lugar, se analiza la construcción emotiva del sentimiento de inseguridad y violencia. En segundo lugar, se indaga sobre los discursos hegemónicos que edifican una imagen de los jóvenes como delincuentes y violentos. Hacia el final se realiza una breve reflexión sobre la problemática de la violencia en la escuela. Se considera necesario dar cuenta de las estructuras emotivas que pesan sobre los jóvenes a fin de contrarrestar la imagen estigmatizante que gira en torno de ellos. The youth as fear and stigmatization objet: feelings from and to young from countries of Cono Sur In this article we propose to reflect on the symbolic construction of young people as an object of fear, in relation to the sensitivity of the crime and violence that have segments of society in the countries of the Cono Sur. In this article we use secondary data from multilateral agencies, government and ngos. First, we analyze the emotional construction of the sense of insecurity and violence. Secondly, we inquire about the hegemonic discourses that build an image of young people as criminals and violent. Towards the end a brief reflection on the problem of school violence takes place. Durante las últimas décadas, la convivencia, la conflictividad y las violencias en el ámbito escolar son problemáticas socialmente relevantes que se han instalado en las agendas públicas de la gran mayoría de los países de la región latinoamericana. En un plano normativo, se han extendido los derechos de los niños y los jóvenes, población que históricamente ha ocupado un lugar subalterno. Lo cierto es que, junto con las leyes, resulta necesario generar las condiciones para el cambio cultural mediante la edificación de una pedagogía que libere las emociones en un sentido emancipador. Por este motivo, es imperioso realizar un viraje desde la pedagogía del castigo a otra que posibilite el autocontrol de las emociones a partir del respeto hacia el otro en la convivencia social. Por tal razón, este artículo tiene como objetivo reflexionar sobre aquellas expresiones de xenofobia y racismo, en las dinámicas sociales de estigmatización que caracterizan la época actual y que se observan en las prácticas educativas. Se entiende a la violencia como constructora de subjetividad, como modo de dolor social que reporta un daño. Así, la reparación es un acto educativo que habilita experiencias escolares menos traumáticas y deja como legado de transmisión una actitud ética para con el otro. Cohabitation, conflict and violence in schools are socially relevant issues that have been posed in public agendas of most Latin American countries during the recent decades. On a normative level, the rights of those individuals who have been historically placed in a subordinate position, such as children and youngsters, have been extended. However, alongside laws, it is necessary to generate the conditions for cultural change; which helps to build a pedagogy to release emotions in an emancipatory sense. It is imperative to make a turn from the pedagogy of punishment to another one that enables the self-control of emotions on the basis of respect towards others in a social coexistence. This text explores the expressions of xenophobia and racism, in the socio-dynamics of stigmatization which characterize the current times we live in and which are observed in educational practices. We understand violence as a builder of subjectivity, as a mode of social pain that reports damages. Thus, repairing is an educational act that enables less traumatic school experiences and leaves as a legacy of transmission an ethical attitude towards the other. Durante as últimas décadas, a convivência, o conflito e as violências no âmbito escolar são problemáticas socialmente relevantes que estão instaladas nas agendas públicas da grande maioria dos países da região latino-americana. Num plano normativo, têm sido estendidos os direitos das crianças e jovens, população que historicamente tem ocupado um lugar subalterno. A verdade é que, junto com as leis, é necessário gerar as condições para a mudança cultural mediante a edificação de uma pedagogia que libere as emoções num sentido emancipador. Por este motivo, é imperioso fazer uma viragem desde a pedagogia do castigo para outra que possibilite o autocontrole das emoções a partir do respeito pelo outro na convivência social. Este artigo tem como objetivo reflexionar sobre aquelas expressões de xenofobia e racismo nas dinâmicas sociais de estigmatização que caracteriza a época atual e que são observadas nas práticas educativas. A violência é entendida como construtora de subjetividade, como um modo de dor social que reporta um dano. Thus, repairing is an educational act that enables less traumatic school experiences and leaves as a legacy of transmission an ethical attitude towards the other., Durante as últimas décadas, a convivência, o conflito e as violências no âmbito escolar são problemáticas socialmente relevantes que estão instaladas nas agendas públicas da grande maioria dos países da região latino-americana. Num plano normativo, têm sido estendidos os direitos das crianças e jovens, população que historicamente tem ocupado um lugar subalterno. A verdade é que, junto com as leis, é necessário gerar as condições para a mudança cultural mediante a edificação de uma pedagogia que libere as emoções num sentido emancipador. Por este motivo, é imperioso fazer uma viragem desde a pedagogia do castigo para outra que possibilite o autocontrole das emoções a partir do respeito pelo outro na convivência social. Este artigo tem como objetivo reflexionar sobre aquelas expressões de xenofobia e racismo nas dinâmicas sociais de estigmatização que caracteriza a época atual e que são observadas nas práticas educativas. A violência é entendida como construtora de subjetividade, como um modo de dor social que reporta um dano. Buenaventura lies in the department of Valle del Cauca, a region of concern for the Caravana due to the large numbers of reports we have received alleging killings and violence against those whos eek to defend access to justice. El artículo estudia la relación entre estigmatización territorial y violencia policial contra jóvenes de sectores populares en la periferia de Buenos Aires. La hipótesis central es que ambos procesos se retroalimentan: barrios socialmente estigmatizados no sólo gozan de peor protección policial, sino que la sospecha generalizada sobre sus habitantes, en particular sobre los jóvenes, refuerzan la hostilidad y violencia policial sobre los jóvenes. La sospecha generalizada sobre ciertas zonas legitima o al menos hace tolerable para la opinión pública ciertas prácticas violentas cotidianas. Se argumenta que al mismo tiempo que la acción de organismos de derechos humanos y estado por disminuir la forma más grave de violencia policial han tenido un impacto positivo, el aumento de las demandas de seguridad en la última década, han incrementado otras formas de hostilidad y microviolencias cotidianas. Del lado de los jóvenes, por su parte, hay una creciente apelación al lenguaje de los derechos y contra todo tipo de discriminación. Por tales motivos, tales violencias cotidianas les resultan crecientemente insoportables. Basado en estudios de terreno en las periferias de Buenos Aires, el artículo intenta llamar la atención sobre estas formas de violencia de la que existen pocos registros oficiales, alertando sobre un patrón de relaciones conflictivas entre jóvenes de sectores populares y policías., The article examines the relationship between territorial stigmatization and police violence against popular youth in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The main hypothesis is that there is a feedback between both processes: socially stigmatized neighborhoods suffer not only worse police protection, but widespread suspicion about their inhabitants, particularly young people, that reinforces the hostility and police violence directed toward youth. The pervasive suspicion about certain areas makes it legitimate (or at least tolerable), in public opinion, to exercise certain everyday violent practices. While the actions of human rights organizations and the State to reduce the most serious form of police violence have had a positive impact, increasing security demands in the last decade have enhanced other forms of hostility and micro everyday violence. Among the youth, meanwhile, there is a growing appeal to the language of rights and against all forms of discrimination. For these reasons, such daily violence is considered increasingly unbearable.
