Introduction No longitudinal study has investigated the impact of cigarette tax increases on retail prices in Vietnam. This study aims to describe changes in the purchase price of cigarettes following an excise tax increase from 70% to 75% in January 2019. Material and Methods Data were collected from people who currently smoke cigarettes in the longitudinal ITC Vietnam surveys: 1870 participants in Wave 1 (pre-increase), 1564 in Wave 2 (post-increase), and 1308 in Wave 3 (post-increase). Weighted mean self-reported prices of a cigarette pack (with standard error) were calculated for participants who were successfully followed up across three waves. These mean prices were calculated for domestic and international brands, categorized by specific cigarette brands. Percentage changes in mean prices were also measured, and significant differences in mean prices between follow-up waves (Waves 2 and 3) and the baseline (Wave 1) were assessed using paired t-tests. For brands with very small sample sizes, we used non-parametric tests, specifically the Wilcoxon signed-rank test instead of paired t-tests. Results The weighted mean price of a cigarette pack remained low and stable: VND 12330 (US$0.54) in 2018, VND 12700 (US$0.55) in 2019, and VND 12120 (US$0.53) in 2020 (1000 Vietnamese Dongs about US$0.04345, at 2018). International brands were substantially more expensive than domestic brands, but prices for both remained constant across all waves. BackgroundKnowledge, attitude, and practice of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) and ADRs reporting among healthcare workers were related to the quality and ADRs reporting rate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the multifaceted interventions on knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of healthcare workers and to compare the proportion of spontaneous ADRs reports at the study center, before and after instituting multifaceted interventions.MethodsA comparative intervention study was conducted among healthcare workers at the hospital. The participants were asked to complete a questionnaire before and after instituting the multifaceted interventions to assess the KAP of ADRs and their reporting. The impact of the multifaceted interventions was assessed by comparing their correct responses to the KAP questions and the proportion of spontaneous ADRs reports before and after the interventions. The pre- and post-intervention scores for KAP questions were compared usingMcNemar test by R Language.Results388 healthcare workers completed the study. The proportion of participants qualified for ADRs reporting increased significantly, from 73.5% (pre–intervention) to 99.2% (post–intervention) for knowledge scores, from 70.6% to 91.8% for attitude scores, and from 81.4% to 97.2% for practice scores (p < 0.001). Similarly, the number of spontaneous ADRs reports increased by 31% after 3 months of interventions.ConclusionMultifaceted interventions instituted at the study center improved the knowledge, attitude, and practice of health workers towards ADRs and spontaneous reporting. It would be beneficial to implement such interventions in other hospitals in Vietnam.

Abstract Background Perception of harm plays an important role in predicting intention to quit—an integral part of the cessation process. Perception on harm from bamboo waterpipe tobacco was unknown, even the predominant of this type of tobacco use. This study investigated the effects of perceived harm from cigarette and bamboo waterpipe tobacco on intention to quit among adult male Vietnamese tobacco users. Methods From the nationally-representative 2015 Global Adult Tobacco Survey, we included 1,351 adult males (≥ 18 years old) who used cigarettes, bamboo waterpipes, or both. Demographic characteristics, tobacco use behaviors, perceived harm from tobacco use, and regulation/policy exposure were measured. Effects of perceived harm from cigarette and bamboo waterpipe tobacco on intention to quit were assessed by logistic regression. Results Intention to quit prevalence was 59.0%, 55.0%, and 58.4% for cigarette, waterpipe, and dual users, respectively. Tobacco users who perceived that “using cigarettes and/or waterpipe could cause severe illness” and “waterpipe use is less harmful than cigarette smoking”, had tobacco use bans at home, or were exposed to anti-smoking campaigns or encouragement to quit information were more likely to intend to quit. When analyzed by tobacco users, intention to quit was more likely for those users who perceived their tobacco product as more harmful than the other product type, although statistical significance was only observed for cigarette users. Conclusions Misperceptions regarding harm from tobacco use could negatively affect intention to quit. Dissemination of accurate information on the risks from all forms of tobacco use and enforcement of tobacco control policies are important for encouraging intention to quit.

This study provided a novel flipped classroom model with a detailed combination of in-class and out-of-class activities to teach a Vietnamese-English Translation module. The study aimed to (1) provide an in-depth insight into how the model was actually implemented in a specific scenario to make the teaching-learning process more interesting and meaningful, and (2) investigate the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model towards learners’ translation performance through various assessments. 39 English-majored juniors at Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam participated in the study during the second semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. The study implemented a case-study mixed method design, applying assessment analysis and content analysis of one specific learning scenario to clarify how the flipped learning model contributed to the training process. Results show that a careful design of the flipped model contributed to the relevant literature on how to implement flipped learning in actual classroom settings, but also effectively improved learners’ performance in translation studies.
