A symposium is presented on the subject on the role and foreign policy of the U.S. following the administration of president George W. Bush and during the administration of president Barack Obama. Emphasis is given to the influence of Bush's Global War on Terror campaign and diminishing American power with respect to countering political Islam, global hegemony, and retrenchment. Other topics include the U.S. commitment to freedom, public debt, and American exceptionalism.
