This report presents information on actual and projected headcount enrollment for the University of Hawaii Community Colleges (UHCC). Highlights include: (1) total headcount for the UHCC measured 24,909 in Fall 1998, virtually unchanged from the previous fall; (2) enrollment peaked at 27,905 in Fall 1994, and then declined 10.8% over the next three years; (3) enrollment of first-time students may improve over the next few years due to increases in the number of high school seniors; (4) enrollment of continuing/returning students has declined steadily since Fall 1994; (5) transfer enrollment has been forecast to follow the same trend as first-time students; and (6) headcount enrollment at the UHCC is expected to increase modestly through the projection period, at an average annual rate of 1%. The enrollment projections are based on unduplicated headcounts of full-time and part-time students enrolled in credit courses. Included are classified students enrolled in liberal arts or vocational programs as well as unclassified students. Unlike previous reports, these projections also include projected headcounts in continuing education credit courses offered by Honolulu Community College, beginning Fall 1999. This report highlights graduation and persistence rates for degree-seeking undergraduate students at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges, as of January 1997. The report covers seven campuses: Hawaii, Honolulu, Kapiolani, Kauai, Leeward, Maui, and Windward. The data are from the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems/University of Hawaii System Longitudinal Database Project. The report includes full-time and part-time students, as well as first-time and transfer students. A glossary of key terms, highlights from the data tables and a summary of the overall findings are included. According to the persistence data, 53 percent of degree-seeking students who begin at one of the University of Hawaii Community Colleges will return for their second year. Students of Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino ancestry have the highest one-year persistence rates, while students of Caucasian and Hawaiian ancestry have the lowest. The data did not find a notable difference between the persistence patterns of men and women. The graduation section reports that close to 27% of degree-seeking students entering the UH community colleges can be expected to graduate within 6 years of entry; about 19 percent earn an associate degree over an average period of 3.3 years; and women maintain slightly higher graduate rates than men after 6 years. This annual report reviews program offerings, finances, and student and faculty characteristics at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges (UHCC) for the 1992-93 academic and fiscal years. The first section reviews major achievements for 1992-93 related to service to the state, the international role of the system, and efforts to expand educational access. A system organizational chart and mission statement is then presented, followed by a systemwide profile of enrollments from 1988-92, funding, staffing, programs of study and disciplines offered, and special programs and services. The report concludes with profiles of the Employment Training Center and seven UHCC campuses. Each profile contains a brief narrative, information on enrollment by major, attendance status, gender, ethnic background, and degree objective; staffing; funding; and campus leadership. Selected data include the following: (1) in fall 1992, UHCC credit enrollment was 26,120, a 5% increase from 1991, while another 107,265 students were enrolled in non-credit courses; (2) 14,258 students were Liberal Arts/Sciences majors, while 8,199 were in vocational programs; (3) in 1992-93, $75,139,441 of general funds were appropriated to the system, a 1% decrease from 1991-92; and (4) a total of 1,462.25 staff positions were authorized for the UHCCS in 1992-93, a 2.7% increase from 1991-92, while 793.6 of these positions were for instructional personnel. This annual report for the University of Hawaii Community Colleges provides data on programs, finances, and student and faculty characteristics for the 1991-92 academic and fiscal years (FYs). The first section reviews activities undertaken to broaden access to the colleges, ensure quality education, strengthen ties with elementary-secondary education, support statewide economic development, enhance the state's role in Asia and the Pacific, and maintain the quality of facilities. The next section offers a month-by-month summary of initiatives undertaken by particular campuses and individuals between July 1991 to June 1992. Next, following an organizational chart and institutional mission, data are provided on enrollment, degrees and certificates awarded, tuition, general fund appropriations, special programs and community services, and student and faculty characteristics. The remainder of the report provides data on outcomes and appropriations for the seven community colleges and one training center and a list of college staff. Highlighted data include the following: (1) in fall 1991, the system enrolled 24,874 credit students, representing 61% of all undergraduate enrollments in the state, while 130,044 students enrolled in non-credit courses; (2) in 1990-91, 1,122 Associate in Science degrees, 828 Associate in Arts degrees, and 285 certificates were awarded; (3) in fiscal year 1991-92, $75,839,686 of general funds were appropriated to the colleges; and (4) in fall 1991, the system employed 1,198 instructional faculty, 686 of whom were employed full-time. Providing information on programs, students, and faculty at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges, this report reviews data for the 1990-91 academic and fiscal years (FYs). The first section reviews systemwide accomplishments for the year, describes efforts related to international education, and presents an agenda for action. The organizational structure and mission of the colleges are then presented and 1990-91 data are provided on enrollment, degrees and certificates awarded, tuition, general funds appropriations, programs of study, disciplines, special programs and community services, and student and faculty characteristics. Next, demographic and enrollment data are presented for each of the system's seven community colleges and one training center. The final sections discuss goals and plans for 1993-99 and provide a roster of college staff. Highlighted data include the following: (1) in fall 1990, 23,727 students were enrolled in credit courses in the colleges; (2) 11,878 students were enrolled in Liberal Arts and Sciences, while 2,844 were in Business Education, 2,804 were in Technology, and 982 were in Public Services; (3) in 1989-90, 1,083 Associate in Science degrees, 836 Associate in Arts degrees, and 274 certificates were awarded; (4) in FY 1990-91, $60,765,631 of general funds were appropriated to the system; (5) in 1990-91, 22% of the students were Caucasian, 21% were Japanese, and 17% were Filipino; and (6) 1,198 faculty were employed in 1990-91, of whom 58% were employed full-time. The academic crossover study was developed to answer two questions: (1) What is the course-taking pattern of the different groups of academic majors? (e.g. what is proportion of academic load taken outside the major); and (2) What is the client-serving pattern of the different subject disciplines? (e.g. what are the groups of students served by the departments). The data indicated that course-taking and client-serving patterns have generally remained stable over the past five years. Liberal arts majors took 91 percent of their course work in general education; vocational majors took 78 percent in vocational courses; and other or unclassified students took 77 percent in general education. Liberal arts majors comprised the majority of student hours in general education courses (73 percent), and vocational students were the majority in vocational courses (78 percent). Across campuses, general education accounted for 70 percent of student hours. Data presented include: (1) student semester hours by educational objective; and (2) student semester hours by major. Both types of data are presented for the entire system as well as for each individual campus: Hawaii Community College, Honolulu Community College, Kapi'olani Community College, Kauai Community College, Leeward Community College, Maui Community College, and Windward Community College. Data are presented on a series of tables summarizing enrollment trends and the personal characteristics of the 21,391 regular students enrolled in credit programs at the Hawaii community colleges during spring 1982. The tables cover: (1) headcount enrollment in regular credit and special programs; (2) headcount and full-time equivalent enrollment by campus for the years 1975-76 through 1982-83; (3) selected student characteristics (i.e., sex, educational objectives, major, attendance status, semester hours taken, residence, tuition status, age, citizenship, and registration status); (4) student profiles in terms of these characteristics for fall 1980 through spring 1983; and (5) distribution of majors by campus. The data provided indicate, among other findings, that the regularly enrolled students constituted 80% of the total spring 1982 enrollment. The average student semester hours taken decreased from 9.5 in spring 1982 to 9.3 in spring 1983, which may be attributed to the increasing proportion of part-time students. Average semester hours taken by full-time students had held steady at l3.8 for seven semesters. Demographic data reveal that the median age of the students was 22.6 years, 50.5% of the students were male, and 76.7% were pursuing an associate degree. General and pre-professional majors comprised 39% of the enrollment, while vocational education majors made up another 46%. (DAB)

Recipients of veteran benefits at community colleges in Hawaii comprised 24 percent of the spring 1975 enrollees. The proportion varied by campus from 15 percent at Kapiolani to 31 percent at Leeward and Kauai. Veterans differ from the student body as a whole in terms of credit load carried and educational objectives; this may be a result of the conditions upon which veteran benefits are granted: veterans must have definite educational goals and receive stipends depending upon the credit loads carried. Sixty-seven percent of the veterans, compared to 56 percent of all students, were full-time. While veteran part-time students carried heavier credit loads (7.3 compared to 6.3), full-time veteran students carried slightly lighter credit loads (13.5 compared to 14.1). The 45,826 Student Contact Hours generated by the veterans comprised 26 percent of the total SCH recorded for the spring semester. Ninety-five percent sought associate degrees, one percent sought certificates, and only four percent were unclassified (compared to 11 percent unclassified for the student body). Fifty-two percent of the veterans were liberal arts majors and 44 percent were vocational majors. Veterans were predominantly male, married, older, and residents of the area near the college they attended. A table of data is appended. (Author/DC)

In spring 1975, students attending evening classes only comprised 17 percent of the total enrollment of the community colleges of Hawaii; day-only students comprised 71 percent, and students attending both day and evening classes comprised 12 percent. In all three groups, the majority are male liberal arts majors who were on campus last semester and who are U.S. citizens with Hawaii residency status. The evening-only group differs from the other groups in the following ways: (1) proportionately more have not declared majors; (2) fewer are vocational students; (3) proportionately more were not on campus last semester; (4) over twice as many attend part-time; (5) more are married; and (6) most are older by five to eight years. Compared to the fall 1972 evening-only group, the spring 1975 evening-only group is more than twice as large and is comprised of more males, more "continuing" students, more married students, more full-time students, more vocational students, and more who have declared majors. In both spring 1975 and fall 1972, 41 percent of the evening-only students are liberal arts majors. Data is represented in tables which indicate figures for the entire system and for each of the six Hawaii community colleges. (DC)

From July 1975 to June 1976, 2,229 students were graduated from the Hawaii Community College System, an increase of 12% over the previous year's total of 1,995 graduates. During this same period, 2,299 degrees and certificates were awarded: 65 graduates earned multiple degrees (five earned three degrees and/or certificates, 60 earned double degrees or certificates). Analysis by program shows that the 10 programs with the greatest number of graduates were (in descending order) Liberal Arts, Secretarial Science, Clerical, Accounting, Nursing, Sales/Management, Auto Mechanics Tech, Police Science, Food Services, and Electronics. Compared to the previous year, the number of Associate in Arts degrees granted increased by 23%, the number of Associate in Science degrees granted increased by 10%, and the number of Certificates of Achievement awarded increased by 10%. System-wide, the number of male graduates equalled the number of female graduates. An analysis by campus shows that the number of graduates at Hawaii and Leeward Community Colleges increased by 23% and 33%, respectively. However, the number of graduates at Kauai and Maui Community Colleges declined by 26% and 4%, respectively. This document is comprised of charts and tables presenting enrollment data from fall 1971 through fall 1975 for the six community colleges in the Hawaii Community College System. The total fall 1975 enrollment figure of 30,476 compares to a 25,886 figure in fall 1974. Regular credit students comprise two-thirds of the registrants (20,617)--a 20 percent increase over fall 1974. Among the regular students, males continue to outnumber females; the margin widened to 57 percent in fall 1975. The mean age of regular students has risen from 24.3 to 25.0. The number of liberal arts majors increased from 8,059 to 9,810 (22 percent), and vocational majors from 6,825 to 8,764 (27 percent). Among vocational programs which greatly increased in number are: business, radiologic technology, human services, agriculture, and heavy equipment maintenance and repair. More students took fewer than 12 credits in fall 1975, and both full- and part-time students took lighter credit loads (11.0 average compared to 11.3 for fall 1974). The number of continuing students increased considerably on all campuses. Among the new students were 27 percent of the Hawaii 1975 high school graduates. The trends noted above, especially the increases in classified, continuing, and part-time students, have implications for planning. (NHM)

Based on data collected from the 1,288 students who enrolled at Kapiolani Community College as first-time freshmen in Fall 1979, a study was undertaken to determine the characteristics of new students that are predictive of two dependent variables: (1) second semester enrollment, and (2) a first semester grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above. A stepwise regression analysis was applied to assess the predictive value of the following independent variables: full- or part-time enrollment status, educational objectives, scores on English and math placement tests, sex, age, marital status, high school GPA, employment status, basic skills competency, educational goals, college choice, financial worry, defined career plans, and degree of student self-confidence. Study findings, based on two separate regression equations for vocational and liberal arts students, indicate that while academic characteristics seemed more highly correlated with GPA and academic persistence than did personal characteristics, none of the independent variables could account for more than 20% of the variance in either of the dependent variables. Data are presented on a series of tables summarizing enrollment trends and the personal characteristics of the 19,359 regular students enrolled in credit programs at the Hawaii community colleges during Fall 1980. The tables cover: (1) headcount enrollment in regular credit and special programs; (2) headcount enrollment by campus for the years 1970 through 1980; (3) selected student characteristics (i.e., sex, educational objective, major, attendance status, semester hours taken, residence, tuition status, age, citizenship, marital status, and registration status); and (4) student profiles in terms of these characteristics for 1976 through 1980. The data provided indicate, among other findings, that the regularly enrolled students constituted 73% of the total Fall 1980 enrollment at the colleges. Approximately 50% of the students were female, and 51% were enrolled on a part-time basis. The average semester hours attempted by all students was 9.8, as compared to 10.0 in Fall 1979. Demographic data reveal that the median age of the students was 25.l years, that 90% of the students were United States citizens, and that 79% were unmarried. Liberal arts majors comprised 43% of the enrollments, while vocational education majors made up another 45%. Programs showing substantial enrollment increases from Fall 1979 included computer science, human services, and industrial education. (JP)

As part of a student flow project designed to monitor students who entered Kapiolani Community College in Fall 1979 for five successive semesters, this report summarizes data indicative of the students' academic progress and status as of the beginning of Spring 1980. The report first looks at selected characteristics of new and transfer students, including major, sex, academic status (passing or probationary), and financial aid classification; and at the English and mathematics placement test scores of new students. The report goes on to examine: (1) Spring 1980 registration rates by comparing the number of Spring 1980 registrants with the total number of Fall 1979 entering students who had not completed their degree; (2) the number of students who registered on a full-time basis; (3) the number of credits attempted and earned during Fall 1979; (4) the number of students who changed their majors during Fall 1979 and the changes they made; and (5) the number of students who graduated at the end of Fall 1979. Major findings indicate that 69% of the students entering in Fall 1979 re-enrolled in Spring 1980 and that approximately 66% enrolled full-time. The average credit hours attempted were 10.0, and the average credit-completion ratio was 68%. Only 6% of the students changed their major during the semester. (JP)

Registration data from six Hawaii community colleges were examined to determine the characteristics of those students enrolled in credit programs during Summer l980. Data were collected and analyzed on headcount enrollment and students' age; sex; program; status as continuing, new, or transfer students; citizenship; permanent and local residence; and semester hours carried. Major findings revealed that 3,047 regular students were enrolled in credit courses, representing a 9% increase from the previous summer's enrollment of 2,807. Further analysis of the data indicated that: (1) the number of males decreased from the previous year by nine students, while the number of females increased by 242; (2) 30% of the students were liberal arts majors, 28% were in vocational programs, and 41% were unclassified; (3) the majority of the students enrolled were continuing students; (4) the mean student age was 26.5 years; and (5) the students carried an average load of 4.1 credit hours and generated 12,485 semester hours. The study report presents findings for each campus and compares results with data collected each summer since 1976. (JP)

Data from the seven Hawaii community colleges were examined to determine the persistence patterns of students entering the system in Fall 1974, Fall 1975, and Fall 1976 after six semesters. Students were classified as: (1) non-persisters, i.e., those who attended one semester only; (2) moderate persisters, i.e., those who attended two or more continuous semesters (but fewer than six); (3) stop-outs, i.e., those who attended two or more non-consecutive semesters; (4) extreme persisters, i.e., those who attended six successive semesters at the campus they entered; and (5) graduates, i.e., those who earned a certificate or associate degree. In addition, data were collected and analyzed on students' sex, entry age, marital status, high school background, entry status, educational objectives, program of study during last semester in attendance, full- or part-time status, average semester hours attempted, cumulative grade point average, and cumulative credit completion ratio. Summary findings demonstrate similar patterns of persistence among the three entry groups. Moderate persisters comprised approximately 40% of each group, followed by non-persisters (25%), graduates (14%), extreme persisters (10%), and stop-outs (9%). Data tables illustrate statewide data. Spring 1982 course registration data are presented for regular credit programs at the six Hawaii community colleges (i.e., Honolulu, Kapiolani, Kauai, Leeward, Maui, and Windward). Table 1 provides a course registration summary by campus, which contrasts fall 1981 and spring 1982 data in the areas of numbers of courses, classes, and semester hours; student registrations and semester hours (SSH); course full-time equivalent (FTE); and student and instructor contact hours. Table 2 offers data on average class size by program and campus for 1981-82. Table 3 summarizes course registration by program, Table 4 illustrates number of classes and average class size by program, and Table 5 shows SSH and course FTE by program. The remaining 18 tables provide detailed information for each campus. As noted in the report highlights, (1) all course registration measures except the number of courses and semester hours offered dropped slightly from fall 1981 to spring 1982; (2) the number of courses offered increased at all campuses and resulted in a net increase of 7.5% over fall 1981; (3) average class size in spring 1982 was 23 students, compared to the fall average of 24; (4) the average size of general education classes was consistently larger than that of vocational education classes; and (5) general education offerings accounted for 53.3% of the total courses and 61.6% of the total classes. Fall 1982 course registration data in regular credit programs are provided for six Hawaii community colleges (i.e., Honolulu, Kapiolani, Kauai, Leeward, Maui, and Windward). Following introductory material highlighting findings, tables provide data for 1978 through 1982 on course registration by campus; average class size by program and campus; and the number of classes with fewer than 10 students by campus. Next, tables present a course registration summary by program for l982; the number of classes and average class size by program for 1978-1982; and student semester hours (SSH) and course full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment by program for 1978-1982. Finally, information is provided for each college on registration by program; number of classes and average class size; SSH's and course FTE; and classes with less than 10 students. Highlighted findings include the following: (1) an increase in all course registration measures (e.g., courses, classes, student and instructor contact hours, and course FTE) to their highest level in 5 years; (2) less substantial increases in course registration measures than in overall student enrollment; (3) comparable increases in the number of general education and vocational education courses (3% each); (4) maintenance of the average class size for the system as a whole at 24 students; and (5) a decrease in the number and proportion of small classes. The tables presented in this report summarize enrollment trends and the academic and personal characteristics of students enrolled in credit programs at six University of Hawaii community colleges in fall 1987. The report focuses on headcount by college, changes in headcount and full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollments between 1977 and 1987, selected characteristics (i.e., sex, educational objective, major program area, attendance status, course load, educational level, residence, tuition status, age, registration status, and ethnicity) of regular credit students, and distribution of majors by program and campus. Highlighted findings include the following: (1) in fall 1987, 29,317 students were enrolled in the six colleges, including 20,342 regular students in credit programs, 229 early admits/concurrent registrations, 1,730 students in non-credit apprenticeship/journeyworker programs, and 7,016 students registered in community service and employment training programs; (2) Adult Care Home Operator, Associate Degree Nursing, and Early Childhood Education programs experienced substantial enrollment increases, while Dental Assisting, Aviation Maintenance, Building Maintenance, and Medical Lab Technology programs experienced enrollment decreases; (3) the proportion of women attending the community colleges rose steadily between 1977 and 1987, except for a slight dip in 1983; and (4) the average student semester hours (SSH) carried by full- and part-time students continued a downward trend that began in 1974, dropping from 9.4 SSH in 1983 and 9.1 SSH in 1985 to 8.9 SSH in 1987. Fall 1982 data on student achievement are presented for each of the community colleges of the University of Hawaii. Current grade point ratios (GPR's) and grade distributions are provided for all students registered in credit courses, students in continuing education courses, and students registered for the first time in the second 8-week session. The data reveal: (1) the credits earned ratio was 71%, with higher ratios for vocational courses (75%) than for general education courses (68%); (2) credits earned ratios ranged from 65% in natural science courses to 84% in health services courses, and from 66% to 74% by campus; (3) of the total grades assigned, 24% were A's, 23% were B's, 9% were W's, 11% were N's, and 6% were F's; (4) the average grade assigned ranged from 2.4 to 3.2 by campus, with 2.7 being the system average; (5) the current mean GPR of community college students was 2.74, a slight increase from fall 1981 when the average was 2.72; (6) the current average GPR earned by vocational education majors (2.74) was higher than that of liberal arts majors (2.68); and (7) data by educational objective showed that unclassified students earned the highest GPR's (3.03), followed by those seeking Certificates of Completion (2.79), and Associate in Science degrees (2.74). The bulk of the report consists of data tables providing information on grade distributions from fall 1978 to fall 1982 for the system as a whole and fall 1982 data for each college. (LL)

Describing the programs, students, and faculty at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges during the 1987-88 academic year, this annual report documents significant accomplishments and outcomes for the system. First, a review is provided of significant system accomplishments during 1987-88 and an organizational chart and mission statement are presented for the colleges. Following an overview of students, faculty, student services, and other programs, graphs and data tables are provided on enrollment; degrees and certificates; and programs of study offered. Brief descriptions are then provided of accomplishments, students, faculty, and resource allocation at each of the system's six campuses and one training center. The final sections offer a preview of improvements for 1988-89 and a list of administrators, faculty, and staff by discipline. Highlighted findings include the following: (1) the community colleges enrolled an average of 20,000 credit students per semester, representing 55% of the state's undergraduate enrollment; (2) 60% of the community college students attended part-time, the average student age was 25, and women accounted for 55% of the total enrollment; (3) in 1986-87, 782 Associate of Arts degrees, 1,058 Associate of Science degrees, and 378 certificates were awarded; (4) a total of $45,984,851 of general funds were allocated to the system in 1987-88; and (5) there were 924 instructional faculty in 1988-89, 54% of whom were full-time faculty. This 25th Anniversary report provides information on the programs, students, and faculty at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges (UHCC) for the 1988-89 academic year. The final sections discuss the future of the UHCC with respect to access, retention, and the colleges' role in economic development and present a list of college staff. Highlighted findings include the following: (1) in fall 1989, the community colleges enrolled 20,533 regular credit students, with 49% of these in liberal arts and sciences programs; (2) 60% of the students attended part-time, their average age was 26 years old, and 57% were female; (3) in 1988-89, 10,026 Associate of Arts degrees, 6,081 Associate of Science degrees, and 808 certificates were awarded; (4) a total of $59,050,453 in general funds were allocated to the colleges for fiscal year 1989-90; and (5) a total of 972 faculty were employed, of whom 56% were employed full-time. This report details graduation and persistence rates for degree-seeking students at the seven University of Hawaii Community Colleges (UHCC) from Fall 1987-Fall 1995. The data are from the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems/University of Hawaii System Longitudinal Database Project. The report focuses on full-time and part-time students and first-time and transfer students. Data on graduation rates include both associate and baccalaureate degrees. A glossary of key terms, highlights from the data tables and a summary of the overall findings are included. According to the persistence data, 53 percent of degree-seeking students who begin at one of the UHCC campuses will return for their second year. Students of Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino ancestry have the highest one-year persistence rates. The data do not reveal a notable difference between men and women in overall persistence patterns, however, women maintain slightly higher graduation rates than men after six years, 28 percent to 25 percent respectively. The graduation section reports that close to 27% of degree-seeking students entering the UH community colleges can be expected to graduate within six years of entry; about 19 percent earn an associate degree over an average period of 3.3 years; and women maintain slightly higher graduate rates than men after six and eight years. Spring 1983 course registration data are presented for regular credit programs at the six Hawaii community colleges (i.e., Honolulu, Kapiolani, Kauai, Leeward, Maui, and Windward). Table 1 provides a course registration summary by campus, contrasting fall 1981, spring 1982, fall 1982, and spring 1983 data on numbers of courses, classes, and semester hours; student registrations; student semester hours (SSH's); course full-time equivalents (FTE); and student and instructor contact hours. Table 2 offers information on average class size by program and campus for 1981-82 to 1982-83. Table 3 presents a course registration summary by program, table 4 illustrates the number of classes and average class size by program, and table 5 shows SSH and course FTE by program. The remaining 18 tables provide detailed information for each campus. Among the findings highlighted in the report are the following: (1) all course registration measures, except the number of courses and semester hours offered, dropped slightly from fall 1982 to spring 1983; (2) the number of courses offered increased at all campuses, resulting in a net increase of 4.8% over fall 1982; (3) average class size in spring 1983 was 23 students, compared to the fall average of 24 students; (4) general education classes were consistently larger than vocational education classes; and (5) general education offerings accounted for 53.3% of the total courses and 61.6% of the total classes. Enrollment increases in the seven colleges in the Hawaii community college system appear to have stabilized. Although enrollment increased by 1% in fall 1976 over fall 1975, some colleges reported decreases. Of the total fall 1976 enrollment of 27,829, 75% were regular students, compared to 66% the previous year. For the fourth consecutive year, students were taking fewer semester hours (from 11.0 in fall 1975 to 10.8 in fall 1976). For the same four-year period there has been a proportional decrease in full-time students and an increase in part-time students. Males continued to outnumber females (55% to 45%). Mean age dropped from 25.0 years in fall 1975 to 24.7 years in fall 1976, but the modal group was the 18-19 age category. The proportion of continuing students increased at all but one campus; proportionately fewer (32%) new students enrolled, and the proportion of transfer students remained the same (12%). Distributions of students in liberal arts (48%) and vocational (44%) programs were similar to those reported in fall 1975. (JDS)
