COVID-19 pandemic , *SCARCITY , *ATTENTION , *IMMIGRANTS , *CIVIL society , *HUMAN beings - Abstract
The objective of this work focuses on analyzing the actions carried out by civil society associations and foundations to address human mobility in the city of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and on the northern border side in Imperial Valley, California. The methodology followed is mixed. For this, a documentary investigation and the analysis of the indicators that measure the minimum parameters in the attention to people in the context of migration were carried out. The results obtained indicate that the Covid-19 pandemic has accentuated the situation of vulnerability and scarcity of resources of both the organizations and the migrants themselves and has shown that migrant care lacks government strategies on both sides of the border. POST-traumatic stress disorder , *HEALTH of refugees , *POLITICAL refugees , *MENTAL health , *MENTAL illness , *COUNTRY of origin (Immigrants) - Abstract
Background: There are 26 million people recognised as refugees worldwide. Many of them spent a prolonged period of time in transit – time after they leave their country of origin and before they reach the receiving country. Transit brings numerous protection and mental health risks refugees are exposed to. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the stressful and traumatic experiences refugees are exposed to during transit, with a special focus on the experience of pushback – the denial of access to the territory to foreign nationals and forcible return to countries of origin or neighbouring countries without an assessment of their rights to international protection, as well as the impact of these experiences on refugees' mental health and well-being. Method: 201 refugees currently residing in Serbia completed the Stressful and Traumatic Experiences in Transit questionnaire – short version (SET-SF), questionnaire for assessing stressful and traumatic experiences during pushback (SET-SF PB), Refugee Health Screener (RHS-15), and Well-being index (WHO-5). Results: The results showed that refugees experience a large number of stressful and traumatic events (M = 10.27, SD = 4.85). In addition, half of the participants experience severe symptoms of depression (50.7%), while about a third of the participants experience severe symptoms of anxiety (37.8%) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (32.3%). Refugees who experienced pushback showed overall higher levels of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Traumatic experiences during transit and pushback were positively related to the severity of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. In addition, traumatic experiences during pushback showed an incremental contribution in predicting refugees' mental health difficulties over and above traumatic experiences in transit. Conclusions: This study provides valuable insights into the multiple risks refugees are exposed to and emphasise the need for the provision of adequate protection and support. There is a high prevalence of traumatic experiences refugees face during transit and pushback, a high prevalence of mental health problems, and impaired psychological well-being in refugees. Traumatic experiences contribute to mental health problems. Urgent measures are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The violence perpetrated by the criminal economy against migrants is evident after the increase in restrictive measures implemented by the Mexican government as a strategy to stop irregular transit. Academic texts are reviewed, as well as newspaper resources on massacres against migrants such as those that occurred in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, 2010; in Cadereyta, Nuevo León, 2012 and Camargo, Tamaulipas, 2021. Therefore, this work aims to show tolerance and political indolence in the face of the violent intervention of the criminal economy in irregular migratory transit. The conclusions point to the Mexican authorities’ lack of attention and tolerance regarding the massacres of migrants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PUBLIC transit , *GENTRIFICATION , *COLLEGE graduates , *POPULATION geography , *LOCAL transit stations , *DEMOGRAPHIC change , *NEIGHBORHOODS - Abstract
This article proposes an inverted U-curve theory to represent the changes in transit-induced gentrification with increases in mass rapid transit (MRT) station density over time. A forty-year experience on the associations of proximity to MRT stations with college graduate ratios in Tokyo, Japan, was applied to test this theory using the spatial data of MRT stations and population censuses from 1970 to 2010. The college graduate ratio in a neighborhood was adopted to measure gentrification outcome and denoted a phenomenon of early-stage gentrification. Applying a geographic information system and regression methods, empirical results provide long-term evidence of transit-induced gentrification, indicate the critical role of MRT station density in gentrification, and support the inverted U-curve theory. The transit-induced gentrification levels initially increase and then decrease as MRT station densities increase over time. This trend is affected by the MRT station density, macroeconomic environment, and state policy. This research helps to further the understanding of temporal changes in transit-induced gentrification. The inverted U-curve theory needs further tests in cities operating historical MRT systems to verify its global applicability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research brings together concerns of food environments, food insecurity, and food access to demonstrate four measures of access for an emergency food provider network. Based on the interacting concerns of accessibility and accommodation, the measures are proximity, segment coverage, transit access, and transit time. Proximity measures geographic access, whereas segment coverage focuses on access at different times of the day, on different days of the week, during different weeks of the month. The two transit measures use the region's actual transit network scheduling to address space–time access via transit. The measures are applied to the food pantry network of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Each demonstrates a unique nuance of access in the emergency food provider context, providing useful inputs into the process of meeting a community's emergency food needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

IMMIGRANTS - Abstract
The objective of this article is to identify the main areas where Central American migrants spend most of their time during their transit through Mexico. The theoretical framework reviews the mobility-immobility and aspiration/ability approaches that focus on mobility restrictions and waiting times. The definition of waiting territories and the inclusion of the length of stay variable contribute to the study of transit migration from the perspective of immobility. Using the Migration Survey in the Northern Border (Emif Sur), the magnitude of displacements through the reported areas by migrants is estimated as having the longest length of stay in their migratory displacement. Long-term transit spaces correspond to different border regions and locations close to migratory routes. The provided empirical evidence indirectly suggests obstacles to mobility manifested in longterm transit spaces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract This work presents the application of techniques related to Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to characterize the 81 cantons of Costa Rica in limited dimensions, based on indicators of road users' exposure to minor, serious injuries, or death (on-site) in traffic accidents, to analyze possible variables that could be related to their incidence. Through the analysis of hierarchical groupings, three groups of cantons were found with differentiated conditions in two constructed components, and in terms of the incidence rates in analysis. With the association of physical and sociodemographic variables, it was found that the cantons with the lowest development indices, the greatest deficiencies, and the highest proportion of young population have a higher risk of road victimization in occupants of cars with four or more wheels. - Abstract
Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that traumatic experiences from countries of origin (so-called pre-migratory factors), as well as stressors in countries of destination (so-called post-migratory factors), are related to the extent of mental health difficulties and psychological well-being of refugees. However, numerous risks that this population is exposed to during transit have so far been neglected. Objective: The aim of this research was to construct and validate a questionnaire for assessing stressful and traumatic experiences in transit as well as its short form, which would at the same time provide information on one’s stressful experiences as well as existing risks that refugees are exposed to on their journey. Method: The study was realized in three phases – item construction, item revision and instrument validation. In the validation phase, a total of 226 refugees completed the Stressful Experiences in Transit Questionnaire (SET-Q), along with Harvard Trauma Questionnaire (HTQ) Parts I and IV, Hopkins Symptom Checklist-25 (HSCL-25) and Beck Depression Inventory – II (BDI-II). Results: Refugees were exposed to an average of 13 stressful events during transit. SET-Q total score was positively correlated with HTQ Part IV Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Self-Perception of Functioning scales (SPFS) while the number of stressful experiences with the local population was positively related to BDI-II depression symptoms. Moreover, SET-Q scores were significant predictors of PTSD and SPFS even after traumatic experiences in the country of origin, assessed by HTQ Part I, were taken into account. A short form of the questionnaire (SET-SF) has also been developed. Conclusions: SET-Q is a valid instrument for measuring the scope of stressful experiences refugees have been exposed to during transit, targeted for this population specifically. Furthermore, SET-SF has the potential to assess the same extent of stressful experiences with a significantly reduced number of items. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study is to analyze the road accident rate in critical points of the city of Tunja - Boyacá, for this, six critical points of the city were identified based on traffic accidents occurred between the years 2018 to 2021. Followed by this, a road safety inspection was performed by applying the methodological guide for the development of road safety audits and inspections for Colombia obtained from the Agencia Nacional de Seguridad Vial, from which checklists were used and the respective findings were determined in order to obtain the level of risk for each of the sections. Subsequently, the generalized linear mixed model combined with negative binomial was applied using RStudio software, which evaluates the factors that influence the frequency of traffic accidents, and a survey was conducted with 303 users in order to know their perspective on infrastructure and behavior regarding road safety in the city. Finally, measures are proposed to mitigate and/or reduce road accidents in the city in the sites identified as dangerous. Magíster en Infraestructura Vial Maestría

- Abstract
This article aims to analyze the configuration of space in Milton Hatoum's novel Two Brothers. In order to do so, it will be investigated, mainly, the way in which the wandering and the exile, lived by the personages, are related to the configuration of the space in the narrative. The methodology contemplates the theoretical-critical studies formulated by Certeau (2014), Bhabha (2013), Maffesoli (2001), Said (2003), among others. The results of analysis point to a problematization about the relationship between the subject and the socially constructed space by those who, in search of an identity, are affected by the feeling of non-belonging. From this perspective, therefore, Hatoum's novel evidences the space of the exile and the immigrant to think the sense of identity in contemporary times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The National Road Safety Commission of Chile has achieved valuable progress related to road safety during these last years. The high number of deaths and seriously injured (particularly vulnerable users) as a result of a road accidents, as well as the need to establish new regulations and ways for sharing common spaces between all transportation modes, have made the challenges in traffic become more complex and multifaceted. Because of this, the latest advances are not only in the regulation area, but also in the area of engaging and assembling collaboration and cooperation from all relevant road safety players in Chile to be able to save lives. Road safety in Costa Rica has been a difficult problem to address, from its management to the development of infrastructure, which has been reflected in high traffic accident rates, especially those of vulnerable road users, who have reached in recent years more than 70% of the total of on-site fatalities. Road infrastructure has traditionally been centered on the automobile: however, the country is currently in a moment of major changes toward a new road safety vision based on the safe system approach together with new laws and regulations to promote a safe, inclusive and sustainable mobility of all road users. In this process, the academia plays a preponderant role in applied research, development of regulations and specifications, as well as in training and technology transfer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article intends to explain the tasks developed by the firm PROINTEC in Ecuador in order to assess the road safety issues in the federal road network by means of the execution of road safety audits. A road safety audit is a procedure in which a team of independent and qualified professionals checks the safety conditions of an existing or future road, in order to identify deficiencies or omissions that may compromise the safety of users, and from which it can be justified that feasible and potentially efficient solutions exist. On this matter, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works of Ecuador, in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank, carried out in 2016 road safety audits in the federal Road Network. The objective was to identify the elements of the road that could cause an accident, and that could be subject to an action for their elimination or, at least, to reduce the probability and severity of it. This article focuses on the description of the tasks developed, the safety problems identified, and the main results obtained in the R5 and R6 regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TRAFFIC accidents , *LOW-income countries , *ROAD construction , *ROAD safety measures , *RURAL roads - Abstract
Despite the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety statistics show an increase in the number of deaths and serious injuries in traffic accidents, mainly in countries of medium and low income. The process of road safety has been changing over the years and today we start from the concept that every human being makes mistakes, and therefore the road system should be designed so that this error does not mean his death or that of the rest of the participants in transit. This implies a very important change in the participation of responsibilities in the accident, occupying the driver a less important role in its production, being part of that responsibility transferred to those who design and build the road system. Therefore, a country with a safe road infrastructure is one that has a road system such that an involuntary error of a driver does not produce a fatal accident or serious injury. Consequently, in all cases, programs and plans in the short, medium and long term should take into account improvements in the road infrastructure through their design and maintenance, making streets and roads safer. - Abstract
The "El Tala" intermountain valley, in the province of Catamarca, is an area with a mountainous environment that has been interpreted in archeology around its agricultural potential. In recent years we have carried out intensive work in the region, departing from Landscape Archeology as theoretical basis we ask ourselves about the social construction of the landscape in the area. Methodologically we apply the novel Trail Prospecting System (SPS in Spanish), which allowed us to gather information from more than 30 archaeological sites, registering residential structures that had not been reported for the area yet. Gesture studing has acquired importance as a subject related to human cognition and non-verbal communication. The purpose of the present discussion is to seek the application of the concepts of the gestures for the exercise of the activity of the public security professional. The research was exploratory, in order to provide greater familiarity with the subject, using bibliographical and documentary research as a technical procedure for data collection. As a result of the analyzes, it was observed that the use of gesture communication has dimensions that conform to the theoretical precepts of the formulation of symbolic meanings and cognitive learning, which enables practices and interactions in daily military police. It is concluded that such analyzes can serve as reference for the expansion of studies in the area before theoretical and practical aspects and with usefulness in the improvement of police techniques from the concepts explored. [EN] This artistic research project on the expressive possibilities of photography deals with the question of reality from the consideration of post-photography with respect to natural space. Look for new ways of thinking about it after the democratization of the digital image. To do this we return to previous media from a different perspective, we mainly work with black and white chemical photography respecting the entire original chemical process, that is, the resulting image is fixed on a physical support, paper, through the action of light from the enlarger. In our process, the environment is essential, linked to time and the poetry that results from this union. For this reason, transit is also relevant as a way of inhabiting this space while we capture moments in images by walking, touring and trying to encompass the space and its possible routes. The images that our photographs show share an organic character with the medium, which unites them with the environment in which they were created. This is the reason why we take them back to the place where they were captured, to let nature modify them again in a temporary game, allowing nature to leave its mark on the paper. Everything exposed materializes in different pieces that work with the chemical image in black and white, the image in color and digital and their multiple relationships, establishing interactions between the different formalizations.

- Abstract
Pedro Lemebel's urban chronicle (1952-2015) invites to discover the city space from a critical perspective, which leads us to hidden places of it. "Anacondas en el parque", opening chronicle of the book La esquina es mi corazón (1995), shows us the writing transit between the public and the private in the space of a park. Freedom practices of the desire which defies the strict vigilance of the stablished order. Frontier place between the socially ruled and the marginal, all of this written with influence of the neo-baroque, but trespassing, like his sight, the decorative surface, to touch the pulse of an invisible space. TOURISM , *TRAVELER attitudes , *PSYCHOLOGICAL distance , *HOLIDAYS , *HISTORICAL distance - Abstract
Most tourists are not consciously engaging in 'slow travel', but a number of travel behaviours displayed by conventional tourists can be interpreted as slow travel behaviour. Based on Danish tourists' engagement with the distances they travel across to reach their holiday destination, this paper explores unintended slow travel behaviours displayed by these tourists. None of the tourists participating in this research were consciously doing 'slow travel', and yet some of their most valued holiday memories are linked to slow travel behaviours. Based on the analysis of these unintended slow travel behaviours, this paper will discuss the potential this insight might hold for promotion of slow travel. If unappreciated and unintentional slow travel behaviours could be utilised in the deliberate effort of encouraging more people to travel slow, 'slow travel' will be in a better position to become integrated into conventional travel behaviour. TOURIST attractions , *HERITAGE tourism - Abstract
Salamanca has become an appealing destination in inland Spain due to a successful schedule of cultural events which dates back to 1993, when the exhibition Las Edades del Hombre was launched. However, most of visitors focus their walks and visits to the shaft that connects the Plaza Mayor with the cathedrals and the University along the Rúa Mayor. Their perception of the city's rich heritage is therefore very poor, as the outcomes of fieldwork and a tourist survey clearly suggest. This article proposes some actions to stretch the network of tours and to enrich the experience of tourists who visit Salamanca. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ilustraciones, fotografías Sobre Afectos residuales. Bullar. It is a creation-investigation thought from the personal and colective memory activation, related with the violences that are imposed in the autodeterminated female bodies, using the fictional figure of "las malqueridas". - Abstract
The article proposes a new parameter for the analysis of those works belonging to the Silver Age of the Spanish Literature that describe regional reality and that have been interpreted as a result of the antagonism between town and country. The study tries to group authors whose work has its origin in an intimate relationship to the country and who write about their painful experience of transit from country to town. As a result of a preliminary field research, three of these authors are presented here: José María Gabriel y Galán, Rafael Alberti, and Manuel Llano. The next step will be to analyze the topics dealt with by these writers and their ideological viewpoint regarding the modernization processes which are present in the first decades of the 20th century. At the same time, the genuine cultural and historical heritage which they recreate out of their intimate implication with the country is further discussed, as well as the stylistic means they employ. It is concluded that the line of research proposed in this article contributes to enlarge the discussion about the dualism between town and country, thus confirming the need of further research. BORDERLANDS , *CIVIL society , *IMMIGRATION policy , *INTERGOVERNMENTALISM , *SERVICES for immigrants ,EMIGRATION & immigration in Mexico ,MEXICAN politics & government - Abstract
This paper presents a discussion on purview of the immigration issue that develops through the participatory mechanisms of different institutions in the governmental, intergovernmental and civil society areas which featured prominently in the consulting, decision making and ideas-formulation processes that addressed the migratory phenomenon in Mexico (highlighting the think tank experts of migration and the FaithBased Community Organizations). A theoretical analysis of the relational conception of interagency is developed and interpreted as structurally hybrid. This analysis combines material and symbolic practices because it works as an anchor for the political strategies, and it strengthens the rhetoric of dialog, thus creating decision makers and providing imaginary models of the "integrated management of migration". The discussion presented here is complemented by examining the relation between migrants and the institution "Casa del Migrante" in Chiapas, Mexico --which provides them humanitarian aid--, and by recovering information from the study case, applied at the time of their traffic by the southern border and within the focused groups.
