Abstract

Research was conducted to investigate the effects of replacing Fe(III) with either Mn(III) or Mn(IV) which are quasi-isostructural but not isoelectronic with the FeIIIMIIFeIII centers. The syntheses and magnetic and spectroscopic properties of the complexes (LMnIII((mu-dmg)3MII)MnIIIL)(ClO4)2 and (LMnIV((mu-dmg)3MII)MnIVL)(ClO4)4 and the crystal structures of MnIIIMnIIMNIII and MnIIICuIIMnIII were analyzed. Results demonstrate that it is possible to stabilize the tris(dimethylglyoximato)metalate(II) tetraanion by complexation with the LMn3+ or LMn4+ unit.

Abstract

A novel process enables the synthesis of oxo and hydroxo bridged, asymmetric, heterodinuclear complexes possessing a ruthenium and a transition-metal ion, which may be V, Cr, Mn or Fe. The localized oxidation states of the ions account for the electronic states of the complex. The ruthenium ions' ability to adopt various oxidation states is based on the tendency to form M double bond O.

Abstract

The syntheses of asymmetric heterodinuclear and homodinuclear complexes were reported. The hydrolysis of LM1Cl3 (L = 1,4, 7-triazacyclononane) and L'M2Cl3 (L' = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4, 7-triazacyclononane; M1 and M2 = two different trivalent transition metal) yielded the asymmetric dinuclear complexes containing the mu-oxo-bis(mu-acetato)dimetal(III) core. Orbital interactions and ferro- and antiferromagnetic behavior of the complexes were also discussed.
