The difference between the optimal current difference and the actual current difference will be used as the correction item. The dynamic multiple current information about the front lattice will be considered. A modified lattice traffic hydrodynamics model is established by considering the downstream traffic conditions in the two-lane system. Through the stability analysis, it is found that the downstream traffic condition can be added as a correction term to increase the stability of the system. The area of the stable region on the phase diagram is enlarged by the derived stability. The mKdV equation, which can describe density wave, is derived by nonlinear analysis. Finally, the phase diagram of stability condition in linear analysis and the kink wave diagram of mKdV equation in nonlinear analysis are obtained by numerical simulation, which verifies the theoretical derivation of this paper. The results show that in the two-lane traffic flow expansion model, considering the downstream traffic conditions can effectively suppress traffic jams and make the traffic flow stable. With the increase of vehicles, traffic congestion has become a prominent problem. Environmental pollution, energy waste and even traffic accidents are easily caused by congestion. Nowadays, with the help of V2V and V2I communications, real-time interaction of vehicle information can be achieved. Vehicles can easily get information about other vehicles. In reality, a driver looks at the following car (i.e. upstream traffic condition) as well as the preceding car while driving. However, the effect of upstream condition is rarely analyzed. In the paper, a term describing the upstream traffic condition is added in Nagatani's model. The effect of the upstream traffic condition to linear stability is obtained by applying the perturbation method. Nonlinear stability equations, such as the mKdV equation, are also derived. Theoretical results of linear stability and nonlinear stability are shown intuitively through numerical simulations. Traffic congestion has attracted considerable attention in modern society. Many researchers have proposed tremendous traffic flow models. These models can be divided into microscopic model, mesoscopic model and macroscopic model. With the progress of technology, it is possible to get the information of the preceding vehicles, i.e. the downstream traffic condition. Drivers can adjust their driving behaviors according to the downstream condition. This mechanism has been considered in microscopic model, and it is found that this mechanism can not only stabilize the traffic, but also bring about some new phenomena, such as synchronized traffic pattern. In the macroscopic model, what will the traffic flow be after considering the mechanism? In this paper, a term describing the downstream traffic condition is added in Nagatani's single-lane lattice model. Through theoretical study and numerical simulation, it can be found that traffic is more stable when the downstream traffic condition is considered. Besides, the modified model can reproduce the soliton wave, kink wave properly. Moreover, the amplitude and frequency of density wave with different influence forms of the front lattices on the current lattice are almost the same as found to reflect the different influence forms do not have significant effect on the stability. The new delayed-feedback control strategy is applied for lattice hydrodynamic model of traffic flow by considering the control signal of the variation rate of the optimal velocity. The linear stability condition is derived in the frequency-domain with control theory. Then, different feedback gains under the periodic boundary scenery and on-ramp scenery are simulated. The periodic boundary scenery provides an initial small disturbance situation on the circle road, while the on-ramp scenery reproduces the disturbance triggered by the on-ramp on the open road. As the important spatiotemporal state of traffic flow discovered by Kerner's three-phase traffic theory, the synchronized traffic flow describes a new traffic phase in congested traffic. However, until now most models within the standard traffic theories cannot reproduce it. The average space gap model (ASGM) is a simple cellular automaton model aimed to reproduce various empirical findings discovered by Kerner's three-phase traffic theory by incorporating the influence of the multi-anticipative effect on vehicle's deceleration. However, this paper shows that the simulated synchronized flow by ASGM is not consistent with the reality. To this end, the Multi-Anticipative Model (MAM) based on ASGM is proposed, which describes the influence of the multi-anticipative effect on both the accelerations and the decelerations. Simulations indicate that the empirical consistent synchronized flow and related congested patterns can be well reproduced by MAM. Moreover, MAM can reproduce the speed drop in the car following vehicle platoons reported by the empirical observations. Generally, MAM indicates that the multi-anticipative effect can shed light on the understanding and capturing the complex characteristics of traffic flow especially reported by Kerner's three-phase traffic theory. • A new cellular automaton with multi-anticipative effect has been developed based on ASGM. • The synchronized flow with related empirical findings in Kerner's three-phase traffic theory can be well reproduced. • The empirical phenomenon of sudden speed drop can be captured in car following platoons. This paper firstly show that 2 Dimensional Intelligent Driver Model (Jiang et al., 2014) is not able to replicate the synchronized traffic flow. Then we propose an improved model by considering the difference between the driving behaviors at high speeds and that at low speeds, which is in the framework of three-phase traffic theory. Simulations show that the improved model can reproduce the phase transition from synchronized flow to wide moving jams, the spatiotemporal patterns of traffic flow induced by traffic bottleneck, and the concave growth pattern of traffic oscillations (i.e. the standard deviation of the velocities of vehicles increases in a concave/linear way along the platoon).
