The article examines U.S. staging and interpretation of Southern Asian and Indian theater. The influence of colonialism in the production of Asian drama is explored. The international work of South Asian artists is discussed, particularly within the American theatre. The author explores South Asian American theatre by focusing on community performances created by and for South Asian American communities, performances by visiting South Asian performers, and South Asian American performances delivered by the descendants of immigrants and intended for mainstream culture.
