Objective: To determine the gender and age differences in posterior tibial tendon (PTT), flexor digitorum longus tendon (FDLT), medial malleolar groove (MMG), and posterior, anterior, and total posterior malleolus (PMP, APM, and TPM, respectively) and evaluate the use of these parameters for posterior malleolus plating., Study Design: Descriptive study., Place and Duration of Study: Department of Radiology, Etimesgut Şehit Sait Ertürk State Hospital, Ankara, Turkey, from January to December 2020., Methodology: The magnetic resonance images (MRI) of the ankle were evaluated. PTT and FDLT thickness and width, MMG depth, width, length, and groove opening angle, and APM, TPM, and PPM length were measured. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was conducted to determine whether the variables differed between gender and age., Results: The study included 103 patients (61 women, 42 men). For gender discrimination, the sensitivity, specificity, and cut-off values were 78.6%, 72.1%, and 7.48 mm, respectively. For the PTT width: 76.2%, 77%, and 3.88 mm, respectively; for the PTT thickness: 85.7%, 86.9%, and 40.41 mm, respectively; and for the APM length, the APM, TPM, and PPM length measurements were statistically and significantly differed between the genders (p<0.001). The APM/PPM ratio was 0.47±0.057 mm in women and 0.47±0.060 mm in men, and TPM/PPM was determined as 0.55±0.604 mm and 0.56±0.657 mm. There was a statistically significant weak positive correlation among the age, MMG length, and FDLT width., Conclusion: The groove depth and width, PTT and FDLT width and thickness, and TPM, PPM, and APM length can be used in gender prediction. Aim: To investigate the common flexor tendon (CFT) thickness and the frequency of ultrasound (US) pathological alterations in its structure in a healthy population and to evaluate if these findings can be correlated with dominant hand, age, gender, body mass index, workload, menopause status., Material and Methods: The study population consisted of 111 healthy volunteers. Bilateral CFT thicknesses were measured at 5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm distance to medial epicondyle. Tendon echotexture, tears, calcification, enthesophyte, and neovascularization were also evaluated., Results: The CFT was thicker on the dominant side at all three locations (2.1 versus 1.9 mm proximal, 4.0 versus 3.7 mm in the middle and 7.0 versus 6.6 mm distal, all p<0.05). Thickness correlated negatively with postmenopausal duration in all landmarks, except for the nondominant side distal part and positive with body mass index, significantly on the dominant side proximal and middle parts. A statistically significant correlation was found between heavy workers group and tendon thicknesses on the proximal and middle parts of the dominant side and the distal part of the non-dominant sides. US tendinosis was detected in 24/222 tendons, calcification in 11/222 tendons and enthesophyte in 33/222 tendons. The threshold age was 46.5 years for enthesophytes and 51.5 years for calcifications. The prevalence of calcification and enthesophyte tended to be higher in blue-collar workers and on the dominant side., Conclusions: The CFT thickness varies depending on measurement locations, handedness, body mass index, postmenopausal duration and workload. The US signs of tendinosis may be encountered in a symptom-free population. Calcification and enthesophyte tended to be more frequent in blue-collar workers.

Objective: To investigate the ulnar groove (UG), extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tendon, and ulnar styloid process (USP) parameters in asymptomatic individuals without ulnar-sided wrist abnormalities, to determine whether these values can be anthropometric markers of age and gender and identify their correlations for use in clinical decision-making., Materials and Methods: The MRI T1W axial, T2W sagittal, coronal PW and DESS sequences were evaluated in 100 cases (62 women). The UG width, depth and groove opening angle (GOA), ECU tendon width and thickness, and USP base width and length were measured., Results: For gender, the cut-off, sensitivity, specificity and accuracy values were 8.58 mm, 67, 68 and 66%, respectively, for UG width; 5.3 mm, 53, 68 and 62%, respectively, for ECU width; and 6.4 mm, 55, 74, and 67%, respectively, for USP length. There was no difference concerning age. The tendon width was 63% of the UG width and depth was approximately 51% out of the UG. UG depth was correlated with GOA and tendon thickness (p < 0.001 and 0.03, respectively); UG width with GOA, tendon thickness, and USP base width and length (p = 0.005, 0.01, 0.016, and 0.02, respectively); tendon width-thickness with USP base width and length (p = 0.05); and US base width with US length (p < 0.001)., Conclusion: The gender differences in distal ulnar measurements can be beneficial for surgery and forensic science. UG is wider than ECU tendon, and this is the cause of normal subluxation. Therefore, rather than deepening UG, surgeons should focus on tendon sheath abnormalities as a physiological solution.
