This study aimed to develop a scale for evaluating disordered eating attitudes and behaviors among adolescents aged 14 to 18. The scale’s factor structure was examined with a total of 1379 participants, revealing 14 items and three sub-dimensions that accounted for 58.46% of the total variance. The scale demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = .86) and test-retest reliability (r = .90). Regarding criterion validity, the correlation between the Disordered Eating Scale (DES) and the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) was found to be .86. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis results indicated a sensitivity of .930 and a specificity of .91 for the ≥31 cut-off point. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted, and the model fit indexes for both applications were as follows: x 2 = 287.43, df = 73, x 2/df = 3.94, RMSEA = 0.079, CFI = 0.938, TLI = 0.922, and SRMR = 0.045. These findings supported the three-dimensional model, suggesting that disordered eating can be measured through restriction, weight anxiety, and extraction-control behaviors dimensions with a total of 14 items. The DES is deemed suitable for screening and evaluating negative eating behaviors and potential psychopathology in adolescents, including those with and without clinical eating disorder symptoms. SOCIAL emotional learning , *EXECUTIVE function , *SOCIAL skills , *FUNCTIONAL assessment , *TEENAGERS - Abstract
Executive functions form a foundation for self-regulation and help adolescents build social-emotional skills, which help them manage their thoughts, behavior, and emotions and help prepare for a better transition to learning. The purpose of study was to assess the executive functioning skills and social emotional learning among adolescents. The cross-sectional study was conducted with a total 240 adolescents with a mean age of 15 ± 2.23 years, of whom 54% (130) were female and 46% (110) were male and participants completed socio-demographic form, behavior rating inventory for executive functioning and Social Emotional Learning Scale. The main findings were that female students were found to have greater social awareness skills (Mean ± SD, 15 ± 2.01) and male students were found to have greater responsible decisionmaking skills (Mean ± SD, 19 ± 2.28). A statistically significant positive correlation was found for shift (r=0.159), emotional control (r= 0.187) and working memory (r=0.118) of executive functioning skills with social emotional learning. The findings of the study showed that there is a relationship of the executive functioning skills and social emotional learning in adolescents, especially in relation to shift, emotional control and working memory of the executive functioning skills and social emotional learning among adolescents. Adolescents who have better executive functioning skills may acquire knowledge easily, perform better academic performance and attitudes to achieve personal goals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ADOLESCENT psychiatry , *CHILD psychiatry , *JUSTICE administration , *TEENAGERS , *MENTAL illness - Abstract
Objectives: Although the frequency of forensic evaluation requested from child and adolescent psychiatry clinics has increased in recent years, studies in this field in our country are very limited. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of children and adolescents whose forensic reports were requested by the justice systems for various reasons. Method: The sample of the study was composed of children and adolescents who were directed by the justice systems between February 2019 and February 2020 to Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinics. The information about the reasons for referring the participants to the clinic, their sociodemographic features, and psychiatric diagnoses determined by clinical interview based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 were retrospectively scanned. Results: While the average age of 83 patients who participated in the study was 13.93±2.32 year, 68.7% (n=57) of them were men. Justice systems are most often directed to assess whether the cases are capable of discriminating (%83.1, n=69). It was determined that 68.1% (n=47) of these cases were children driving to committing crime and 31.9% (n=22) were children who were victims of sexual abuse. The total intelligence scores and frequency of school attendance of children driving to committing crime were significantly lower than other forensic cases (p = 0.01, p = 0.04, respectively). In addition, it was found that the frequency of continuing to formal education was significantly higher for children driving to committing crime without recidivism compared to with recidivism (p = 0.01). It was found that the average age of children who were victims of sexual abuse was lower than the average age of other forensic cases (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Our results can contribute to the determination of factors that adversely affect the mental health of children guided by justice systems and to create targeted mental interventions. It also emphasizes that forensic assessment can be an opportunity for many children to meet unmet mental health needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to make a cultural adaptation of the Child Health and Illness Profile-Adolescents (CHIP-AE) measurement tool for adolescents, which was developed by Starfield in 1993, to analyze whether the Turkish version is reliable, valid and applicable. Material and Methods: The sample of the study consisted of adolescents aged between 12 and 17, receiving inpatient treatment in the Children's Health and Diseases Clinic in the Faculty of Medicine at Eskisehir Osmangazi University, and adolescents aged between 12 and 17, studying in a private school. The original version of CHIP-AE in English was first translated into Turkish, and then back translated. All stages of the cultural adaptation were performed by a specialized committee. Confirmatory Factor Analysis was conducted on LISREL to test the validity of the instrument. Results: For the purpose of this study, the Turkish version of the CHIP-AE (12-17 years) was administered to 252 adolescents receiving inpatient treatment [148 (58.7%) female; 104 (41.3%) male] and 223 healthy adolescents [109 (48.9%) female; 114 (51.1%) male]. The average age was 14.32±1.70 in the group of ill adolescents, and 14.57±1.51 in the group of healthy adolescents. With regard to reliability, Cronbach's was 0.852 in the group of ill adolescents, and 0.807 in the group of healthy adolescents. These values refer to perfect reliability. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was conducted to test construct validity. Model fit results obtained in CFA were as follows: χ²=1622.07, df=1061, p-value=0.000 RMSEA=0.046 in the group of ill adolescents; and χ²=2082.33, df=1208, p-value=0.000 RMSEA=0.057 in the group of healthy adolescents. Thus, validity results comply with the standards. Conclusion: This study suggests that the version developed for Turkish adolescents has high validity for the groups of both healthy and ill Turkish adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MENTAL depression , *DEPRESSION in adolescence , *SOCIAL media , *TEENAGERS , *AFFECTIVE disorders , *MINI-Mental State Examination - Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between social media use and smartphone use and autistic traits in adolescents diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods: Fifty-six adolescent patients diagnosed with MDD were included. The Autism Spectrum Questionnaire-Adolescent Version (ASQ-A), the Social Media Use Disorder Scale (SMDS), the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short version (SAS-SV) the Children's Depression Inventory, and Schedule for affective disorders and schizophrenia for school-age children-present and lifetime version-Turkish version were applied to the participants. Results: The mean total ASQ-A score was determined to be below the defined cutoff points. Adolescents diagnosed with depression with high autistic traits (AT) showed a significantly higher depression score than the low AT group. In the correlation analysis, a significant positive relationship was determined between the depression score and the SMDS score (r=0.301) and between the SMDS score and the SAS-SV score (r=0.603). In the correlation analysis of the ASQ-A and the SMDS subscales, a significant positive relationship was determined between social skills and persistence, social skills and escape, and communication and withdrawal. Conclusion: The current study results present a different perspective that the determination of autistic traits in the depressive disorder could be important in determining treatment strategies. When determining the treatment strategies for adolescents diagnosed with depressive disorder, it may be important to determine autistic traits and to strengthen and support these difficulties by providing psychosocial interventions to increase social skills and communication in the context of cognitive and behavioral interventions to replace social media use for the adolescents to feel better and avoid stressful situations and negative mental states. Further long-term studies could show whether autistic traits create vulnerability to depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present study was to examine factors (i.e., perceived social support, peer relationship, cognitive emotion regulation skills) predicting prosocial and problem behaviors of adolescents who are in institutional care and of those living with their families. Participants were 79 adolescents who are in institutional care, ranged in age between 10 and 17 years old and 95 adolescents living with their family, ranged in age between 10 and 17 years old in Diyarbakır. The results of which compare two groups in terms of study variables revealed that adolescents in institutional care have a weaker social support system and they have more difficulty in regulating their emotions. Separate hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to examine the predictors of prosocial and problem behaviors of adolescents who are in institutional care and of those living with their families. The results revealed that perceived peer support and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies predict prosocial behaviors of adolescents in institutional care. On the other hand, perceived peer support, adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies predict the problem behaviors of adolescents in institutional care. Adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies predict prosocial behaviors of adolescents living with their families. On the other hand, perceived peer support and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies predict the problem behaviors of adolescents living with their families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study is aimed to compare socio-demographic variables, perinatal characteristics, developmental stages, comorbid medical illnesses between children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders and non-neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders. Methods: In this study, the files of 2981 children and adolescents referred to our, child psychiatry outpatient clinic between January 2015 and September 2016, were examined retrospectively. The data of DSM 5 based psychiatric diagnosis, mean ages, gender, parental work status and education levels, perinatal characteristics, such as a birth week, birth weight, time of speech and walking, frequent comorbid medical conditions such as epilepsy, cardiac disease and asthma, were obtained. Results: The findings showed that children most often had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and anxiety disorders were the second common health problem. The mean ages and working rates of parents, education level of the mothers were significantly lower in children with a neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorder (n=1502) than children with non-neurodevelopmental disorder (n=690) and no psychiatric diagnosis (n=376) (p<0.05). Younger age, male gender, the requirement of neonatal intensive care unit, speech and walking delay and presence of comorbid epilepsy were associated with a neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorder. Conclusion: Knowing socio-demographic, developmental, medical and perinatal variables associated with neurodevelopmental and non-neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders may help us to develop preventive interventions. Digital gaming addiction poses a serious risk for adolescents. For this reason, a study on adolescents about the subject becomes crucial. This research aimed to investigate the mediator effect of anxiety on the relationship between aimless navigation on the internet and digital game addiction in adolescents. The research was carried out on a total of 658 adolescents, including 323 (49.1%) of whom were girls and 335 (50.9%) were boys. The ages of the participants were distributed between 12 and 19, and the average age was 13.61. Data were obtained by Beck Anxiety Scale, Game Addiction Scale for Adolescents and Personal Information Form. The analysis was made after the variables were found to meet the normality assumptions. The survey model was used in the research and the relationship between the variables was analyzed by the mediator test. In the research, it was determined that aimless navigation on the Internet significantly predicted digital game addiction and anxiety in positively. At the same time, anxiety significantly predicts digital gaming addiction. It has been found that anxiety is mediated partially in the relationship between aimless navigation on the internet and digital game addiction. The findings of the study were discussed in the light of the literature and suggestions were made to the researchers and practitioners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A Treatment Guideline Work For Children And Adolescents With Bipolar Disorder. Bipolar disorder (BD) is a chronic and debilitating medical illness that is increasingly recognized in children and adolescents. BD of childhood and adolescence is not rare but difficult to diagnose because of its atypical presentation compared with that of adults with the disorder. Similar to treatment for adults with BD, pharmacotherapy is considered the first-line treatment for pediatric BD and usually involving the use of mood stabilizing agents such as lithium, carbamazepine, and valproate and antipsychotic agents such as risperidone, olanzapine, and quetiapine. Sufficient data was not obtained about pharmacotherapy of pediatric BD and most of the studies to date do not have standard assessment protocols and placebo control groups and clinicians who treat children and adolescents with BD need current treatment guidelines. We aimed to present the principles and techniques of multi-dimensional evaluation strategies that are utilized in the selection of medications in this review. We also added treatment algorithms according to recent specialist consensus. For that reasons, the important parts of the treatment including diagnosis, combined drug usage and maintenance treatment were tried to discuss. All data from controlled studies were assessed in this article. According to the review of the literature, we found following results: There are few well-designed clinical trials. Systematic treatment with prospective record-keeping is essential for methodology, Lithium and divalproex appear to have comparable efficacy at the end of the trials, olanzapine was found effective and safe in the treatment of BD in children and adolescents, but it has some metabolic side effects. Some controlled data were obtained for safety and efficacy of quetiapine. Stimulants should be used cautiously but are not contraindicated. Antidepressants may have mood destabilizing effects. Still, there is no sufficient data about long term treatment and further studies are needed for maintenance treatment and long term safety of the medications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune multisystemic disease, and the central nervous system is one of the most common major systems to be involved . SLE patients having neurologic involvement were found to experience neuropsychiatric complications such as psychosis, seizures and various cognitive dysfunctions. Neuropsychiatric SLE (NP-SLE) can cause any form of affective illness. Psychiatric involvement can include mood lability, unusual elation, irritability and depression or psychosis. Diagnosis is difficult to make owing to the wide variety of neuropsychiatric manifestations of SLE. Corticosteroid usage can cause psychiatric events, and differentiating corticosteroid induced psychiatric episodes from neuropsychiatric manifestations of SLE may be difficult. Depression is especially frequent in patients with SLE, and differentiating depression caused by possible psychological effects of the chronic disease from organic depression is required concurrently. Cranial Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG) can be useful for detecting specific involvement of the central nervous system. The pediatrician, specialists and the mental health team may work together to help the child and his or her family throughout the course of the illness. The primary physician should consult with a child psychiatrist when psychiatric symptoms are seen in terms of the differential diagnosis and treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anahtar Kelimeler: Dezavantajlı Gruplar, Gençlik, Parçalanmış Aile, Sosyalleşme, Spor For the sociolazation of teenagers aged between 14-18 social factors such as, culture, economic welfare as well as academic success have an undeniable importance. In relation with these factors, teenagers should be educated in similar educational environments, those who are not should be assessed as disadvantaged groups. In this study, it is analyzed what factors are affective in the participation of sportive activities at school as well as if or how much these disadvantages can be reduced through socialization. It is not possible to have a full insight over every and each group which is considered to be under the headline `disadvantaged groups` as it covers a wide range.Such a wide range study could only be performed with the collaboration of numerous people since disadvantaged groups have to be handled in a detailed way each by each. In this study, therefore, while it is only preferred to exhibit the literary database results about disadvantaged groups in general, much more detailed information and research is provided about divorced familes. In this study theorotical as well as practical sections are available. In the theorotical section under the general information headline, a very detailed research about disadvantaged groups, sports and sociolization can be found. Under the practice section, however, the design of the study can be seen. In the design section, the following can be found: The place of study, individuals participated in the study, the questions asked in the study, data analyzes. Under the section `Themes`, 3 sub-sections with the headlines sports and the affects of sports on socialization can be found. Under the headline of every main theme, categories and the terms constituting these categories can be found as sub-categories. Each result for the relating themes is given seperatedly. The total general result of all themes, however, can be found at the end of the study in the `Discussion` and `Result` sections. At the end of the research study, it has been found out that the ones who are involved in sports activities socialize in the society much more rapidly compared to the ones who do not do any sports at all.Key Words: Disadvantaged Groups, Teenagers, Fragmented Family, Socialization, Sport 125
