The article discusses a research study on changes in education design as to technological facilities and aspects in Hong Kong as related to historical events, economic development and educational policies of the government. It reviews the history of design education as technological practices corresponding to societal needs with the establishment of a Design and Technology (D&T) subject in 1975 that was renamed to Design and Applied Technology (DAT) in 2009, lessons in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and use of advanced technologies including Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) of tools such as laser engraving and computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Conclusions indicated practices in teaching D&T grows in accordance with economic and societal needs of the country.
