In the globalized world, the complicated relationship between macroeconomic variables has resulted in several challenges that have a diversified influence on renewable energy intensity and sustainable development. Accordingly, maintaining a desirable level of renewable energy intensity necessitates comprehensive research into the numerous impacts of its elements and the implementation of proactive strategies to address them. However, studies focusing on assessing the influence of industrialization and trade openness on China's renewable energy intensity are limited. To address this research gap, this study seeks to develop a path model to examine this relationship by accommodating the mediating role of technical innovations and economic development. Empirical results reveal that industrialization positively influences renewable energy intensity, while trade openness negatively affects it. On the flip side, the mediation results demonstrate that technical innovation negatively mediates the linkage between industrialization and renewable energy intensity. In a similar vein, economic development negatively mediates the association between trade openness and renewable energy intensity. Focusing on the implementation of the Yellow River strategy in the lower reaches of the Yellow River to achieve high-quality development of economy and ecological environment, we analyzed the spatial and temporal variation characteristics of the industrial ecological level in the lower reaches of the Yellow River from 2007 to 2020 and the main obstacle factors by using coupled coordination analysis and obstacle model. The results show that the level of industrial ecology in the lower reaches of the Yellow River has been increasing year by year during the study period, showing a trend of "decreasing first, then increasing", and a slow increase in general, but the quality coordination still needs to be continued; there are significant differences in the level of industrial ecology in the lower reaches of the Yellow River cities, and the spatial pattern distribution shows There are significant differences in the level of industrial ecology in the lower Yellow River cities, and the distribution of spatial pattern shows the characteristics of "high in the middle and low on both sides" and "gradually decreasing from east to west"; the main obstacle factors affecting the development of industrial ecology come from the industrial system, such as the number of effective patents granted, the proportion of foreign investment in GDP, and the regional GDP growth rate have The main obstacles to the development of industrial ecology come from the industrial system. Infrastructure construction related to the new generation of information technology and 5G technology is an important measure taken by the Chinese government to promote regional economic development. Large-scale infrastructure investment is being carried out simultaneously in China's core and peripheral regions. The COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a severe blow to China's tourism industry, and the application of new technologies seems to blur the spatial boundaries of the tourism industry. Therefore, it is debatable whether the zealous development of large investment projects can really improve the competitiveness of the regional tourism industry. This paper discusses this topical issue by empirically analyzing data from 31 Chinese provinces and cities from 2008–2019 and draws the following conclusions (1) The continuous expansion of new infrastructure investment in China indeed has a positive effect on improving China's overall tourism competitiveness. However, the inverted U-shaped relationship between the two shows that China should not blindly expand the scale of infrastructure construction and make appropriate investment according to the regional industrial development level. (2) Although convergent infrastructure plays an important role in regional industrial competitiveness, the marginal effect has begun to weaken, so the problem of scale inefficiency needs to be addressed. In contrast, the input of innovation infrastructure is insufficient to enhance industrial competitiveness and can be moderately increased to achieve better results. (3) China's core economic areas have a good driving effect on new infrastructure investment, but the original technological innovation and transformation-type facilities are still the key to limiting the improvement of industrial competitiveness. The post-war era, particularly from the mid-1980s, can be seen as a turning point for various Asian countries. Japanese success in industrialisation based on technology transfer from the industrialised West and evolution of unique endogenous scientific and technological capacities led scholars to conceptualise 'late industrialisation' and 'catching up' strategies. In a large measure, the 'East Asian Miracle' led to some erroneous misconceptions on science, technology, and innovation (STI) policies. Various writings and commentators from Africa, Asia and Latin America advocated to follow the path of East Asian Dragons. These writings begun to assume that countries can build innovation systems or dynamic technological sectors of economy within their respective countries, without paying much attention to building and strengthening science and technology (S&T) eco-systems. There are now clear STI policy signals which point to the significance of building science and technology systems before fully embarking on innovation policies. Amid raising ecological concerns, the role of sustainable financial system and emerging technologies have gained significant attention. And a relatively less attention has been given to these factors in emerging economies. Therefore, this study intends to investigate the effects of financial development and technology innovation on climate change (CO2 emissions) in Emerging Seven countries over the period 1980–2020. In doing so, we have adopted a dynamic panel data model, that is, generalized method of moments, where climate change is given as an endogenous function of financial development and technology innovation by controlling the effects of economic growth, trade openness, population, industrialization, and urbanization. The overall results exhibit that the direct effect of financial development on climate change is adverse; however, the indirect effect through moderation of technology innovation is significantly positive. These outcomes imply that technology innovation is imperative to neutralize the negative consequences of financial development on climate change. These findings advocate financial reforms that effectively encourage and incentivize firms to embrace efficient and environmental friendly technologies in the financial sector. To achieve the restoration of ecological functions in the open-pit mining area of 123 Daogou, Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City, based on the investigation, evaluation, and analysis of the regional ecological and geological environmental problems of the mine, the concept of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, and grasses as a living community was implemented, which breaks through the traditional single restoration and management model of the mine. 3S ecological geological survey technology, systematic design concept, advanced ecological restoration technology, and integrated management were adopted, and the management of abandoned mines with ecological restoration, industrial development, and farmland development to catty out comprehensive management was combined. A total of 4.25 km² of ecological restoration area has been completed, and more than 530 000 m² of newly added land were linked to the increase and decrease indicators. The aerospace scientific research industry has been successfully introduced to the site, which has improved the ecological environment of the mining area, promoted the transformation and upgrading of regional industries, and gradually realized the organic unity of economic, ecological, and social benefits. Environmental problems not only relate to residents' happiness but also challenge the innovation development of industries. This study first measures the innovation efficiency of China's high-tech industries using the super-efficiency data envelopment analysis model and portrays its spatial characteristics through the Moran's I index and the local indicators of spatial association map. Second, we use the entropy weight method to construct the local living environment index from both natural and social environments. Finally, we utilize spatial econometric models to analyze the impact of local living environment on high-tech industries' innovation efficiency. The results reveal that, first, the spatial variation of innovation efficiency in China's high-tech industries is significant, with efficiency being higher in the east than the Midwest, and higher in the south than the north. Second, innovation efficiency has a positive adjacent and geographical spatial autocorrelation, and low-low agglomeration and low-high agglomeration dominate the types of spatial correlation. Finally, the contribution of the local living environment to the innovation efficiency of high-tech industries is positive and significant. This contribution has an obvious spatial spillover effect and regional heterogeneity. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reduction has become an important concern worldwide. During the past century, human activities have been a significant cause of the increase in the level of greenhouse gases. Past research mainly focuses on evaluating the nexus between unidimensional population factors and CO2 emissions, while few prior studies in a developing country have reported the impact of multidimensional demographic factors on CO2 emissions. As an initial attempt, this study investigates the short- and long-run associations between population factors, low-carbon innovation, and carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) for a panel consisting of 285 cities by employing the pooled mean group (PMG) estimator under the framework of the panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model. Our main findings are as follows: (1) Population size and population density could increase CO2 emissions, while population quality and low-carbon innovation were essential factors that alleviate carbon emission pressure in the long run. (2) Economic development, foreign direct investment, and industrial development were found to be factors causing the increase in carbon emissions. (3) The split-sample analysis demonstrated that the improvement of population quality still has a positive and significant long-run effect on environmental quality. Simultaneously, low-carbon innovation could realize the enormous dividends of carbon emission reduction in the long run, especially in existing relatively larger CO2 emission areas. In order to maintain the sustainable development of resource-based industrial clusters, research on the coupling relationship between resource-based industrial clusters and regional innovation networks is proposed. Combined with the historical data of 11 typical resource-based cities from 2013 to 2021, the grey relational model is used to measure the correlation between resource-based clusters and regional innovation networks. And the concept of capacity coupling and the capacity coupling coefficient model in physics is used as a reference to obtain the coupling degree model of resource-based industrial clusters and regional innovation networks. The coupling degree model is used to measure the coupling degree of the two, and a reasonable analysis is carried out on the result of the measurement. The results show that there is a correlation between resource-based industrial clusters and regional innovation networks. And the correlation between the two is above 0.65, indicating a strong correlation. The coupling between resource-based industrial clusters and regional innovation networks has entered the subsequent high-level coupling stage from the run-in coupling stage that began in 2013 and continues to maintain a high-level coupling. It is pointed out that cluster governance plans should be formulated according to regional differences and local conditions, so as to guide the transformation and upgrading of resource-based industrial clusters and to avoid the negative impact on the regional economy due to resource exhaustion. With the increasing severity of the global energy crisis and environmental pollution, there is an urgent need to change the economic development model driven by certain factors and the investment scale and pursue science- and technology-driven innovative development. This study aims to improve the efficiency of scientific and technological innovation and promote the high-quality development of regional industrial enterprises. It constructs a data-driven DEA-Malmquist evaluation model to evaluate and optimize regional industrial enterprises' scientific and technological innovation efficiency. First, we collect the panel data of regional industrial enterprises' scientific and technological innovation input-output indexes. Second, we use the Pearson correlation coefficient method to identify and construct the evaluation index system of regional industrial enterprises' scientific and technological innovation efficiency. Third, we build a DEA-Malmquist evaluation model to quantitatively evaluate regional industrial enterprises' scientific and technological innovation efficiency from static and dynamic aspects. Finally, we verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the method using statistical data on scientific and technological innovation and development of Anhui industrial enterprises from 2011 to 2019 and put forth targeted countermeasures and suggestions. The present research explores the effect of economic growth, technological innovation, trade openness, and industrialisation on energy intensity in the BRICS economies using a dataset from 1990 to 2019. Furthermore, this study evaluates the combined effects of industrialisation and technological innovation on energy intensity. We employed second-generation approaches such as Westerlund co-integration, method of moments quantile regression (MMQR), and panel causality. In addition, we conducted a robustness analysis by using the long-run estimators including the dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS), fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) and fixed effect-ordinary least square (FE-OLS). The MMQR allows for a heterogeneous income-energy intensity nexus at different conditional quantile distributions of energy intensity, which the conventional mean regressions would generally ignore. The empirical evidence from the MMQR confirms that economic growth and industrialisation contribute to higher energy intensity; meanwhile, trade openness and technological innovation decrease the energy intensity. The combined effects of industrialisation and technological innovation reduce energy intensity in the BRICS economies. The outcomes from the MMQR are supported by the DOLS, FMOLS, and FE-OLS estimators. Furthermore, the causal interaction between the energy intensity drivers is also investigated using the Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality tests, which reveal that industrialisation and technological innovation Granger cause energy intensity. Meanwhile, a bidirectional causal interaction between economic growth and energy intensity is found, as well as between trade openness and energy intensity. The widespread use of IoT technology as one of the digital technologies following the Fourth Industrial Revolution will bring vital dependence on this technology to a very high level in the coming years. Despite the emergence of unique opportunities for social and industrial growth and development resulting from the use of this technology, if countries passively deal with it, they will face very serious threats such as violations of privacy, public safety and security etc. In this study, relying on a descriptive-survey approach in the historical analysis of the Internet of Things in Iran over the last decade, the role of governance and the relationship between its functions in terms of making policy, regulation, facilitation, and service provision are explained. In particular, key processes in the IoT innovation system, such as knowledge development and diffusion, entrepreneurial experimentations, resource mobilization, market formation, influence on the direction of research, legitimization, and development of positive externalities, have been considered. In this regard, the research findings after 21 in-depth interviews with representatives of the structural components of the IoT innovation system, including actors, institutions, networks, and developers of knowledge products, are analyzed in three stages of open, axial and selective coding. The main result of this study is to explain that part of governance functions which affect the components and indexes of key processes in the IoT technological innovation system. The study dealt with some of the main axes of innovation and its impact on the level of manufacturing and the added value of the manufacturing industry in the sample countries by analyzing the role of innovation on this variable, and this was done using descriptive analysis methods. The thesis started from the premise that innovation has a positive direct impact on the level of industrialization for countries of the world and in a hierarchical manner according to the level of industrialization. The research was divided into three sections. The first dealt with a theoretical introduction to innovation, the second dealt with the nature of industry and manufacturing, and the third was measuring and analyzing the impact of innovation on the added value of the manufacturing industry. Represented by the global innovation index and manufacturing outputs, as well as the fulfillment of this chapter for all the standard indicators that support the hypothesis of the study, the study had recommendations, the most important of which was that developing and least developed countries should upgrade the global innovation index, which would increase production, productivity and patches of competitiveness for these countries. Industrial development has resulted in economic progress and the well-being of the society. At the same time, the impact of the industrial complex has disrupted the environment and resulted in climate change related impacts. The purpose of this study was to carry out an exploratory diagnosis and propose a technological change and sustainable industrial development index at the international level. Therefore, a network study was conducted to identify the main nodes and thematic clusters associated with cleaner production. A patent analysis was applied to technologies related three selected/relevant areas of cleaner production, i.e. carbon footprint, wastewater treatment, and renewable energy. Tao represents the inheritance of a country in time, and the sustainable development of the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage and derivative cultural products is of great significance. From the past to the present, people's research on intangible cultural heritage has gradually transitioned to industrialization. This article aims to study the influence of wireless communication using embedded microprocessors on the industrialization of intangible cultural heritage products and aims to help the industrial development of intangible cultural heritage products through in-depth understanding of wireless communication. This article puts forward the relevant knowledge of the MIMO system, by introducing the operating process of the wireless communication of the embedded microprocessor, the necessity of the industrialization of intangible cultural heritage products, and the relevant knowledge of how to commercialize it; finally, the industrialization development model of intangible cultural heritage under the support of new technology is drawn. In the experiment, this paper discusses the application of wireless communication technology of embedded microprocessor in the design of intangible heritage products and, based on this, discusses the road of industrialization of intangible heritage products assisted by wireless communication. Finally, the experimental results of this paper show that compared with traditional intangible cultural heritage products, the popularization rate of intangible cultural heritage products produced by wireless communication technology of embedded microprocessor has increased by 15–20%. This paper presents novel research on how exogenous shocks and economic crises affect innovation, knowledge networks, and new path development in regions. Conceptually, we take a regional innovation systems perspective which views new path development as the outcome of innovation and knowledge exchange between firms and other actors, facilitated by a common institutional framework. Empirically, we draw on interviews and network data from the oil and gas industry in southern Norway. Following a long period of prosperity, the industry was hit by the oil price shock in 2014 and entered an economic crisis. The findings suggest that the shock triggered the firms to commit even more forcefully to innovation and to expand their knowledge networks geographically. To cope with the crisis, they applied a variety of strategies, which can be associated with different forms of path development. A radial basis function (RBF) neural network model with an automatic coding machine and fractional momentum was proposed for the prediction of technological innovation. Policy keywords for China's new energy vehicle policies issued over the years were quantified by the use of an Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model. The predictive efficacies of the traditional neural network model and the improved neural network model were compared again to verify the applicability and accuracy of the improved neural network. Finally, the influence of the degree of synergy on technological innovation was revealed by changing the intensity of policy measures. This study examined the nexus between energy consumption and environmental quality in light of China's 2060 carbon-neutrality agenda utilizing annual frequency data from 1971 to 2018. In order to obtain valid and reliable outcomes, more robust econometric techniques were employed for the analysis. From the results, all the variables were first differenced stationary and cointegrated in the long-run. The elastic effects of the predictors on the explained variable were explored through the ARDL, FMOLS, and the DOLS techniques, and from the discoveries, energy utilization worsened environmental quality in the country via more CO2 emissions. Also, industrialization and urbanization deteriorated the country's environmental quality; however, technological innovations improved ecological quality in the nation. On the causal connections between the variables, a unidirectional causality from energy consumption to CO2 effluents was discovered. Also, feedback causalities between industrialization and CO2 secretions, and between urbanization and CO2 exudates were disclosed. However, there was no causality between technological innovations and CO2 emanations. Based on the findings, the study recommended among others that, since energy consumption pollutes the environment, the country should transition to the utilization of renewable energies. Also, the government should allocate more resources to the renewable energy sector. This will help increase the portion of clean energy in the country's total energy mix. Furthermore, research and development that are linked to the utilization of green energies should be supported by the government. Data constraints were the main limitation of this exploration. The special issue of Innovation and Development on 'Building innovation capabilities for sustainable industrialization in Africa ... ', presents a series of articles on building local technological capabilities and their implications for formulating and implementing policies in Africa's industrialization agenda. Despite the high potential of Africa in advancing its industrialization mainly in resource-intensive sectors, progress remains low. Empirical evidence on the reasons for this problem is inadequate and patchy. Articles in this special issue address the gaps by delving into empirical issues ranging from sector-specific innovation capabilities to national systems of innovation. Based on first-hand data collected from South Africa, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and Rwanda, the articles unravelled key structural and systemic problems behind Africa's dismal progress in developing technological and industrial capabilities. Agro-biotechnology deployment has been very slow in Africa, yet it has potential for enhancing sustainable development and industrialization. This paper attempts to understand the underlying factors that characterize the new technologies' deployment process. It takes buildup of innovation capabilities as the point of interrogation considering that very few products have received regulatory approval for large-scale commercialization in Africa. It uses Kenya's agro-biotech innovation system as a case study. The study finds that creating and accumulating innovation capabilities is much broader than research and development (R & D) capability and entails institutional capabilities that are needed to enhance biotech innovation that may lead to a sustainable industrialization. In ethnic minority areas, the rich cultural color has strong attraction and market competitiveness. This paper tries to investigate the future development tendency of five typical industries in China and find out whether there exists a different innovation strategy preference between Chinese firms of low- and high-knowledge density industry in the background of low-carbon sustainable development. First, this paper finds that the innovation driven-based trend of industrial development is further accelerated in China. Firms in industries with high knowledge and technology density, such as specialized-supplier, scale-intensive, and science-based industries, are more likely to choose exploratory innovation strategy than exploitative innovation strategy. Firms in industries with low knowledge and technology density like service- and supplier-dominated industries are more likely to choose the exploitative innovation strategy. Second, results indicate that exploratory innovation can bring higher technological innovation performance than exploitative innovation. And the effect of the ambidextrous strategy is better than the single exploitative strategy in industries with high knowledge and technology density like specialized-supplier, scale-intensive, and science-based industries. Third, this paper suggests that innovation strategy preference plays a mediating role between industry type and technology innovation and a moderating effect of knowledge management capacity between innovation strategy and firms' technology innovation. Knowledge innovation is a key factor in industrial development and regional economic growth. Understanding regional knowledge innovation and its dynamic changes is one of the fundamental tasks of regional policy-makers and business decision-makers. Although many existing studies have been conducted to support in understanding knowledge innovation patterns, data-driven and intuitive visual analysis of georeferenced knowledge innovation has not been sufficiently studied. In this work, we analysed knowledge innovation by visually exploring big georeferenced scholarly data. More specifically, we first applied network analysis and statistical methods to derive key measures (e.g., the number of publications and academic collaborations) of knowledge innovation with multiple spatial scales. We then designed geovisualizations to explicitly represent the multiscale spatiotemporal patterns and relations. We integrated the analytical methods and geovisualizations into an interactive tool to facilitate stakeholders' visual learning and analysis of knowledge innovation with a spatial focus. From the last few decades, the issue of sustainability of the growth process has become the prime objective for most economies. The quality of the environment contributes significantly to achieving the objective of sustainability of the growth process. Therefore, in recent years, the policy of world economies increases its emphasis on growth, prosperity, and opportunities for all with a clean environment. Keeping in this mind, in the present paper, we examined the impact of income, technological innovation, income inequality, and industrialization on the environment quality in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) during the period 1996–2016. The results display cross-sectional dependency within the panel of BRICS nations. Westerlund's cointegration test verifies a long-run relationship between the concerned variables. The dynamic ordinary least square method (DOLS) exhibits that technological innovation has negative while industrialization has a positive impact on the degradation of environmental quality. The results support the existence of the environment Kuznets curve (EKC) to per capita gross domestic product (GDP). Additionally, the paper evaluates the causal link between the variables by using the Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test, and the outcomes support the existence of feedback hypothesis between environmental quality and GDP per capita, and between environmental quality and income inequality. Based on the findings, innovation-driven industrialization and development with equitable distribution of income can help these economies to attain the objective of sustainability of the growth process.
