For Black students in the United States, attending schools with a higher proportion of White students is associated with worse mental and physical health outcomes in adolescence/early adulthood. To our knowledge, no prior studies have evaluated the association between school racial/ethnic composition from kindergarten through grade 12 and later-life mental health. In a cohort of Black adults aged ≥50 years in Northern California who retrospectively reported (2017-2020) school racial/ethnic composition for grades 1, 6, 9, and 12, we assessed the association between attending a school with mostly Black students versus not and mid-/late-life depressive symptoms (8-item Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) depression score, standardized to the 2000 US adult population) using age-, sex/gender-, southern US birth–, and parental education–adjusted generalized estimating equations, and assessed effect modification by the presence of a caring teacher/staff member. Levels of later-life depressive symptoms were lower among those who attended schools with mostly Black students in grades 1 and 6 (β = −0.12 [95% CI, −0.23 to 0.00] and β = −0.11 [95% CI, −0.22 to 0.00], respectively). In grade 6, this difference was larger for students without an adult at school who cared about them (β = −0.29 [95% CI, −0.51 to −0.07] vs β = −0.04 [95% CI, −0.17 to 0.09]). Among Black Americans, experiencing early schooling with mostly Black students may have later-life mental health benefits; this protective association appears more important for students without the presence of caring teachers/staff. BACKGROUND: This paper presents the process taken by a nonprofit educational organization to create authentic evaluation tools for Food Education in K‐12 schools. Development was a collaborative effort between organization staff and teachers during an Evaluation Summit. The program background, development of the Summit, and plans for post‐Summit work continuation are described. The Summit included 14 teacher participants (3‐4 per grade band in preK‐1, 2‐5, 6‐8, 9‐12). METHODS: The process of tool development was captured via direct observations and analysis of artifacts (eg, participants' brainstorming chart paper, online development documents) to identify themes in successful approaches and challenges. Additional post‐Summit activities were also captured via surveys and artifacts. Outcomes of this work are outlined, including the challenges in carrying out the creation of authentic assessments that accurately reflect the classroom teaching experience, and the value of in‐person community building in the Food Education space. RESULTS: Key findings relate to the importance of in‐person collaboration amongst teachers, centering students in evaluation, and equity and accessibility in tool development. CONCLUSIONS: Although outlining challenges and outcomes was not an a priori goal of this work, it provides important information for others working in the education nonprofit space—especially as it pertains to new approaches to classroom evaluation. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of differentiated instruction, collaborative learning, and flexible groupings on the academic achievements of pupils in multi-grade classrooms during the 2022-2023 school year. Five multi-grade teachers from various schools in the district were purposively chosen, along with 230 pupils, utilizing a descriptive correlational design. The data were analyzed using means, standard deviation, frequency counts, and Pearson product correlation at a significance level of 0.05. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents perceive differentiated instruction, collaborative learning, and flexible groupings as highly effective strategies. Additionally, a significant proportion of pupils demonstrate satisfactory academic achievements, with many falling within the "Very Satisfactory" GPA range. Pearson correlation analysis reveals a strong positive relationship between differentiated instruction and academic achievement, underscoring the importance of tailoring teaching methods to individual student needs. In conclusion, understanding the effectiveness of multi-grade teaching strategies can provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers. By acknowledging the positive impact of differentiated instruction and other collaborative strategies on academic achievement, educators can better support multi-grade teachers and learners in achieving academic success. Life education is increasingly recognized as one of the potentially effective ways to reduce unnatural deaths. Existing research focuses mainly on classroom knowledge transfer and extracurricular practical activities, which has been criticized for their effectiveness due to insufficient interaction between teachers and students. Creating high-quality life education, therefore, has become a demand for human happiness. Intergenerational learning embedded in life education, developed by collaborating with primary schools and older adult schools in China, has become an effective practice. Two teachers, seven primary school students, and seven older adult learners were interviewed to reveal the characteristics and impact of this effective practice. This model of practice establishes a dual subject of teachers and students in breaking the boundary between teachers as subjects and students as objects, while recognizing diverse lives in the interaction and reflection of intergenerational learning. In addition, this study constructs a classroom teaching model of teachers, primary school students, and older adult learners jointly creating knowledge, skills, emotions, attitudes, and values, and I put forward the life education thought of 'seeing life through life'. Teachers' actions go beyond instruction, as their personal traits influence their teaching methods, problem-solving skills, and the quality of their relationships with students. Among these attributes, their prosocial competencies stand out for contributing to school, community, and social coexistence. Furthermore, the connection they have to resilience and self-efficacy promotes increased effectiveness in meeting the demands of an ever-more challenging work environment. This research aimed to analyze the effect of the relationship between self-efficacy and resilience on the prosocial behavior of Chilean elementary school teachers. The sample consisted of 1426 teachers (77.2% women) working in public and subsidized Chilean schools. Structural equation modeling (SEM) explored the relationships between self-efficacy, resilience, and prosocial behavior. The findings indicate that self-efficacy and resilience directly and positively affect the prosocial behavior of elementary school teachers. It is suggested that resilience, self-efficacy, and prosociality among teachers are promoted due to their synergistic effects and, consequently, the benefits for school children, especially those from vulnerable social contexts. Introduction: Inclusive school environments require collaboration between teachers and allied health professionals to promote student access and participation. Collaboration is a complex phenomenon with no universally accepted definition or measurement and with many challenges to effective practice. The purpose of this scoping review is to describe what is known about interprofessional collaboration between teachers and therapists in inclusive primary schools. Methods: A scoping review of health and education literature was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. Peer‐reviewed articles reporting on empirical studies with a focus on collaboration between teachers and school‐based occupational therapists or speech and language therapists in inclusive primary schools were included. Results: Results summarise how collaboration is reported in the literature. Numerical and descriptive summaries describe how collaboration is defined and measured, the challenges to collaborative practice, the structures required to support effective practice, and the outcomes of such practice. Conclusion: Definitions vary between studies and disciplines but contain common elements. For effective practice, the purpose of the collaboration must be clear, and the intended outcomes of the collaboration are measured. Measurement of collaboration requires further research using tools developed from robust theoretical frameworks and validated within the educational context and with professionals of different disciplines. Consistent measurement tools would allow cross‐study comparisons. Barriers to collaborative practice are well documented; thus, future research should be directed to examining effective practice, investigating how professionals circumvent obstacles. Indonesia is a rapidly growing county with over 262 million inhabitants, but among highly populated countries it has one of the lowest concentrations of eye care providers. This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of a program implemented in South Sulawesi, Indonesia that trained school teachers to conduct vision screenings, organized in-school evaluations by opticians, and provided free eyeglasses to school children with refractive error (RE). Schoolteachers across 6 districts in South Sulawesi were trained to screen children with possible RE for subsequent evaluation by opticians. All costs associated with designing and implementing the program (administration, training personnel, labor, service delivery, etc.) were assessed. Expenditures and outcomes data were utilized to calculate the cost per disability-adjusted-life-year (DALY) averted using both 2010 and 2016 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) weights. 521 teachers screened 41,212 students across 172 schools in South Sulawesi. 4,506 (10.9%) students failed screening, 2,652 were seen by optometrists, and 2,038 received glasses. The total program cost was US$97,380, with glasses (39.6%) and labor (23.3%) accounting for the two biggest expenditures. In districts with school-based refraction services, the costs per student screened, refracted, and receiving glasses were $2.57, $31.33, and $41.40, respectively; costs were $2.04, $59.80, and $73.22 when district services were instead provided centrally. The estimated cost per DALY averted was US$89.04 based on GBD 2010 weights. The purpose of this study was to examine the relation between teachers' reports of classroom adversity, a measure of classroom hardship, and student problem behavior in a sample of students with or at risk of emotional/behavioral disorders. We also examined the extent to which this relation varied as a function of multiple domains of classroom quality. A series of multiple regression models, adjusting for the nesting of students within classrooms, were conducted. Models revealed a significant effect of the interaction between classroom adversity and classroom emotional support on teachers' reports of student problem behaviors. This effect indicated that in low-adversity classrooms, teachers differed in their reports of students' problem behaviors depending on their level of emotional support. In high-adversity classrooms, however, teachers' reports of students' problem behaviors were relatively similar regardless of their level of emotional support. Findings suggest classroom adversity is likely an important contextual factor to consider when examining student outcomes and that teacher emotional support may mitigate the influence of classroom adversity. Purpose: This study examined the impact, trends, and impact levels of factors affecting Pediculus capitis infestation in primary school students. Subject and methods: Among the papers reviewed, 226 were selected, as they contained information that suited the study objectives. Results: The factors whose trends have higher gradients have a higher impact on the infestation level. In order of impact, the gradients of hair washing frequency, health instructor involvement, bathing frequency, mother's and father's education, existence of bathing facility, family size, hairstyle, and family income trends are higher than hair length, and age and education trends. As a result, the factor impacts are diminished from the beginning to the end. The importance of the family size, father's and mother's education, bathing facility existence, health instructor involvement, and bathing and hair washing frequency factors, whose trends increased over time, is higher than family income, hairstyle and length, and age and education, whose trends remained constant or decreased. Based on the gradient of the factor level impact trends, it seems that hair washing frequency, father's and mother's education, and health instructor involvement are the factors with the greatest effects on infestation level, in that order. These are followed by the influence of family income and size, and hairstyle factors. The existence of bathing facilities, bathing frequency, hair length, and education factors have weaker effects. Conclusion: This work provides the importance and impact levels of factors affecting Pediculus capitis infestation levels in primary school students, which will help meet the needs of policymakers. This study sought to develop an Academic School Climate Scale measuring students' perceptions of the learning environments at their schools. With a pilot sample of 1,265 students and validation sample of 14,773 students in Grades 4–12 in schools across the U.S., results of EFA and CFA supported a bifactor model with a general factor and three subscales: High Standards, Teacher Support of Student Learning, and Peer Support of Learning. We found scalar invariance by gender and race, and metric invariance by grade band. Background: Mental and neuropsychological disorders make up approximately 14% of the total health burden globally, with 80% of the affected living in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) of whom 90% cannot access mental health services. The main objective of the TREAT INTERACT study is to adapt, implement, and evaluate the impact of a novel, intersectoral approach to prevent, identify, refer, and treat mental health problems in children through a user centred task-sharing implementation of the TREAT INTERACT intervention, inspired by the World Health Organization (WHO) Mental Health Gap Action Programme Intervention Guide (mhGAP-IG) for primary school staff in Mbale, Uganda. Health care personell will be trained in the mhGAP-IG. Methods: This is a pragmatic mixed-methods hybrid Type II implementation-effectiveness study utilizing a co-design approach. The main study utilize a stepped-wedged trial design with six starting sequences, randomizing three schools to the intervention at each interval, while the remaining act as "controls". Other designs include a nested prospective cohort study, case control studies, cross-sectional studies, and qualitative research. Main participants' outcomes include teachers' mental health literacy, stigma, and violence towards the school children. Implementation outcomes include detection, reach, sustainability, and service delivery. Child and caregiver outcomes include mental health, mental health literacy, and help-seeking behaviour. Discussion: Based on the results, we will develop sustainable and scalable implementation advice on mental health promotion and draft implementation guidelines in line with current WHO guidelines. This project will generate new knowledge on the structure, organization, delivery, and costs of mental health services in a LMIC setting, as well as new knowledge on the implementation and delivery of new health services. This paper explores teachers' anxiety about work at 75 timepoints between October 2019 and July 2022, covering the period before, during and towards the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in England. We find the work-related anxiety of headteachers increased substantially throughout the pandemic – much more so than amongst more junior staff. Female teachers experienced a greater impact than men, particularly amongst those with young children. Differences were also observed in work-related anxiety between independent and state schoolteachers, though only during the first lockdown. We illustrate how providing onsite instruction, live online lessons and working longer hours were all associated with raised levels of work-related anxiety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Sexuality education is essential for children and adolescents to make better choices regarding their sexual well‐being. Parents, teachers, and healthcare providers are not always comfortable talking to school‐age children about sex, making sexuality education a concept of interest to be explored. The purpose of this paper is to explain the concept of sexuality education in school‐aged children and adolescents. Design and Methods: This paper uses Walker and Avant's concept analysis to help clarify its meaning. The sexuality education concept is explored in this article in the views of educating school systems K‐12 with three types of sexuality education (abstinence‐only, abstinence‐plus, and comprehensive sexuality education). Literature from 1990 to 2023 was retrieved using PubMed, Google Scholar, and CINAHL. Results: A model case is used to demonstrate the importance of sexuality education. A borderline case and a related case are proposed to explain other uses of the concept. Defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents are explored. Antecedents of sexuality education are grouped into three categories: resources, political environment, and social beliefs. Practice Implications: A conceptual understanding of sexuality education can foster nurses' confidence in talking to their patients about this topic and encourage nurses to advocate for comprehensive sexuality education nationwide. Physicality has been, and still is, an important part of the embodied identity of many physical education (PE) teachers. PE teachers' understanding and representation of their bodies influence both their teaching and act as role models for their students. PE is therefore an important site for exploring how ideals of the body shape both understandings and practices within this school subject. In this study we employed participatory visual methodologies in the form of participant-produced drawings to explore primary school children's experiences of PE teacher bodies and subjectivities. By drawing on poststructural and Foucauldian understandings of the body, we in this paper explore the construction and embodiment of PE teacher bodies as inextricably linked to students' understandings and experiences of this school subject. The findings demonstrate how dominant discourses of fitness, health, sport and even consumerism shape expectations around PE teacher bodies. They also draw attention to how those bodies enable and restrict certain educational purposes and practices. We argue that the ongoing reproduction and perpetuation of idealized PE teacher bodies is responsible for (re)producing meanings around the normal versus the abnormal PE teacher body with significant impact on students' bodily understandings and experiences in PE. We conclude by reasserting the need to challenge how dominant discourses of PE teacher bodies has the cumulative effect of restricting the possibilities for a multiplicity of bodies and physicalities to co-exist in PE. This study explored the intricate dynamics of classroom management strategies and their impact on the academic performance of grade 6 students at Kiwalan Elementary School in Iligan City, Philippines. Utilized adapted structured questionnaires with a 5-point Likert scale for teachers and learners. Learners positively perceived their teachers' strategies across dimensions like physical classroom conditions, discipline, routine care, and time management. Teachers, in turn, displayed unwavering confidence in these strategies, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining optimal learning conditions. Academically, students demonstrated commendable performance, with a significant proportion achieving "Very Satisfactory" and "Satisfactory" grades, reflecting an overall positive academic outcome. However, a rigorous regression analysis yielded intriguing findings. Despite positive perceptions and academic achievements, the relationship between teachers' classroom management strategies and learners' academic performance lacked statistical significance. "Not significant" remarks for predictors like Classroom Physical Condition, Classroom Discipline, Care of Routine, and Time Management, coupled with non-significant t-values and p-values. The indicated strategies did not significantly predict academic performance variations. The study's insights into the complex interplay between classroom management and academic outcomes underscored the need for nuanced considerations beyond conventional perceptions and academic achievements. AbstractThis work analyzes the educational proposals designed by 130 future secondary school teachers (FTs) to address socioecological problems -in this case, the presence of microplastics in the environment-, and the relationship with their own perceptions and commitments regarding these problems. The research design was mixed, with both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data. Results showed that systemic thinking regarding the problems, with a comprehensive ecological but also social perception, was correlated with proposals which were aimed at promoting critical thinking and reflection among pupils. Likewise, committed FTs -who show a greater willingness to reduce their plastics consumption and who, above all, assume greater personal responsibility- tend significantly towards action-oriented approaches. Nevertheless, these approaches continue to be scarce. This leads us to discuss the need for greater emphasis on instructional practices in education for sustainability in teacher training. Symptoms of inattention (IA), hyperactivity, and impulsivity present in school‐aged children are important indications of developmental problems. The assessment of these symptoms largely relies on questionnaires completed by parents, teachers, and the children themselves. However, inherent perceptual biases may lead to inaccuracies in these evaluations. This study investigates the biases among different respondents for 41 elementary‐aged students (19 male and 22 female) by analyzing their responses on the attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder‐rating scale (ADHD‐RS) through a novel virtual reality‐based objective measure (AttnKare‐D). Correlation analysis reveals higher agreement between parents and students compared to other informant pairs. Nevertheless, when compared with the objective measure, parents and students do not exhibit distinct separation between high and low‐scoring samples, whereas teachers demonstrate significant separation on various objective measure factors. This discrepancy suggests that teachers may possess a more accurate baseline for peer‐related measurements, leading to a more objective evaluation of ADHD symptoms. However, it is essential to acknowledge that teachers are not entirely exempt from biases. Gender‐specific comparisons reveal notable differences, with male children showing the largest separation in distractibility and female children in movement. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the significance of recognizing and addressing potential biases when interpreting questionnaires assessing symptoms of IA, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in children. This study intends to examine the reading process in Chinese of two young heritage language learners through the use of retrospective miscue analysis (RMA). Retrospective miscue analysis involves both the author and the reader in reflectively discussing the reader's oral reading miscues—responses that differ from the actual text. This study confirms the notion that reading is an active sense-making process where the graphophonic, syntactic, and semantic cues as well as translanguaging skills function interdependently to assist heritage language readers with meaning construction. Strategies of sampling, predicting, substituting, and correcting are also evident in their reading. These active but "invisible" reading behaviors are not available through asking comprehension questions. Instead, they are obtained from the reflective conversations between the researcher and the students. Retrospective miscue analysis helps readers gain a deeper understanding of the reading process and enhances their metacognitive skills. Isolated life emerged at a time when society was not ready during the 2020 pandemic (Covid-19) period. During this period, the structure of society, which has undergone significant social changes, has been transformed. It has been vital to adapt rapidly to the social isolation and distance from outside life within this new social structure. Digital technology is also a factor that changed the lives of students at school. The scope of this research includes 3rd-grade students in primary schools in three major cities of Türkiye: İstanbul, Ankara, and İzmir. This research aims to gather information about the social changes and social anxiety of the students during social isolation by analyzing the responses to scale questions used as a data collection tool, under the observation of parents and classroom teachers. The research design incorporates both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The data collection tools used in this study are the Social- Emotional and Character Development Scale in the survey research, the Social Anxiety Scale for Children, and a personal information form prepared by the researchers. Results are augmented with semi-structured interviews. Data analysis is conducted using the SPSS 22.0 statistical software package. The results obtained indicate that students experience social anxiety as a result of isolation. It is observed that during the Covid-19 pandemic period, social isolation affected 1st-grade students in the 2020-2021 academic year. Paraeducators frequently support children who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) but often lack access to effective training opportunities. Similarly, special education teachers are responsible for supervising paraeducators but often lack effective training on AAC and paraeducator supervision. The POWR+ (Prepare the activity and AAC, Offer opportunities for communication, Wait for the child's communication, Respond to the child's communication, + model AAC) intervention provides training to both paraeducators and supervising teachers to support communication for children who use AAC. In this study, a single-case multiple probe design was used to examine the effects of the POWR+ intervention (e.g., communication opportunities, responses to child communication, and plus AAC models provided by paraeducators) for three teacher–paraeducator–child teams. As a result of the POWR+ intervention paraeducator communication opportunities and paraeducator AAC models increased for all paraeducators. Increases were also noted for communication turns for one child and paraeducator responses to child communication for two paraeducators. Results indicate that the POWR+ intervention may be a viable training option for paraeducators and teachers who support children who use AAC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In Portugal, teachers have constantly sought better working conditions in order to improve their mental health, which can result in demotivation and personal and professional exhaustion. Methods: A total of 1454 national public school teachers participated in this study, 17.4% (n = 253) male, aged between 22 and 66 years old (M = 51.4, SD = 7.5). The instrument used included questions concerning sociodemographic data (gender, years of teaching experience, age, length of service), a life satisfaction scale, WHO-5/quality of life perception, the physical and psychological symptoms scale-HBSC, depression, stress, and the anxiety scale-DASS-21. It also included questions about the school environment: relationship with the principal, and school atmosphere. Results: Four groups of teachers were created for the statistical analyses: No Life Satisfied/No Symptoms; Life Satisfied/No Symptoms; No Life Satisfied/With Symptoms; and Life Satisfied/With Symptoms. The results revealed that male teachers showed higher percentages for the following groups: No Life Satisfied/No Symptoms (χ2 = 17.223(3), p ≤ 0.001, 20.2%), Life Satisfied/No Symptoms (χ2 = 17.223(3), p ≤ 0.001, 43.3%) and No Life Satisfied/With Symptoms (χ2 = 17.223(3), p ≤ 0.001, 23.9%). Conclusions: The results made it possible to identify a profile of teachers who are more likely to develop mental health problems and psychological distress: those who have lower perceived life satisfaction and more psychological symptoms, which are associated with a low perception of quality of life, a worse relationship with principals and a worse perception of the quality of the school environment; this situation seems to be even worse among female teachers. Fostering motivation in the classroom is crucial to improve students' academic performance. The objective of this study was to design a guide of motivational didactic strategies adapted to the school context and to evaluate their impact on the academic performance of second grade students in the EEB Mocache. A single-group quasi-experimental design with a mixed approach was used to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. The target population included all second grade students and teachers at the educational institution, constituting a total of 3 teachers and 30 students. Surveys were conducted with students to assess their level of motivation, semi-structured interviews with teachers to obtain qualitative information, and a pretest and posttest were conducted to measure students' academic performance. Statistical techniques such as analysis of central tendency, normality tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk) and Wilcoxon signedrank test were used to analyze the data. The results show a significant improvement in academic performance after the implementation of the motivational strategies, supporting their effectiveness in the school context. In this commentary, I focus on an international, collaborative, longitudinal study of the development of elementary school students' math motivation and performance across six countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Portugal, and Serbia. The investigators designed motivational questionnaires to assess student motivational beliefs defined quite broadly, teacher and student questionnaires to assess teacher beliefs and practices, and family questionnaires to assess parents' beliefs and practices as well as perceptions of their children and then tested to reliability and validity of these measures across all six countries so that they could investigate both development within countries and generalizability across countries. I focus my comparative comments on the following themes that cut across the various studies: the gender, national and SES differences, the impact of teacher beliefs and practices, the impact of parents, and the testing hypotheses derived from various social cognitive motivational systems. The learning context, consisting of the school children's families, teachers, and peers, has effect on their mathematics learning. The concern of students' socioeconomic status (SES) affecting negatively their learning outcomes is increasing worldwide. This study investigates whether Finnish elementary school students' SES affects their mathematical competence and success expectancy on individual and class levels. Additionally, the role of teachers' beliefs on mathematics learning and class composition on the mathematics competence and success expectancy on the class level is explored. To analyze the nested data from student questionnaires and mathematics tests, and their teachers' questionnaires, we used multilevel structural equation modelling with two levels (1, individual; 2, class). The results indicate that on the individual level, the gender and SES affect students' mathematical competence and success expectancy in mathematics. On the class level, the teacher's evaluations of academic class composition predicted students' mathematical competence, and the teachers' constructivist beliefs of mathematics learning and class composition regarding students' special needs predicted students' success expectancy. We conclude that students with disadvantaged SES need support on success expectancy to flourish in mathematics. Learning engagement is malleable to environmental change. An important learning environment created by teacher-student interactions is perceived teacher autonomy support, which may trigger learning engagement directly and/or indirectly by enhancing academic self-efficacy. In this study, we apply a network approach to explore the relationships between the specific facets of perceived teacher autonomy support, academic self-efficacy and learning engagement, and a sample consisting of 215 students in the fifth and sixth grades from a primary school in Changchun of China is used. Node centrality indicators and the accuracy and stability of the network are also calculated. The results reveal that there are no edges between the three facets of perceived teacher autonomy support and the three facets of learning engagement, and the shortest path connecting the two constructs is through academic ability self-efficacy. Furthermore, learning support, academic ability self-efficacy, and dedication have the top three strengths in the network, which indicates that the three facets are more closely related to other facets of the network. Previous research has consistently shown that parental psychological control is associated with negative psychosocial outcomes, including rule-breaking behavior, aggression, and delinquency. Given the potential long-term consequences of early involvement in externalizing problems, it is important to understand pathways of risk for a child engaging in these behaviors. Therefore, the aim of the current cross-sectional study was to investigate whether peer victimization underlies the associations between parental psychological control and externalizing problems. Participants included 275 children (51.6% girls) in the third through fifth grade (M = 9.33 years, SD = 0.99 years) and their homeroom teachers. Children provided self-reports of psychological control, peer victimization, and delinquency, and teachers provided ratings of peer victimization and forms of aggression. Rule-breaking behavior was assessed using school records. As predicted, a higher order latent externalizing problems factor was identified from indices of rule-breaking behavior, relational aggression, physical aggression, and delinquency. Further, results indicated that peer victimization served as a mechanism linking parental psychological control to a higher-order latent externalizing problems factor as well as individual indices (i.e., rule-breaking behavior, relational aggression, physical aggression, and delinquency). Findings from this study suggest that parents can have an impact on child outcomes through their impact on peer relations. Additionally, these findings may have important implications for early identification and prevention efforts addressing externalizing problems during middle childhood. Highlights: There was a significant indirect effect from parental psychological control to childhood externalizing problems through peer victimization. Findings remained consistent when using child- and teacher-reported peer victimization. Rule-breaking behavior, aggression, and delinquency significantly loaded on to a latent externalizing problems factor. Formation of proper handwashing techniques and habits from childhood is important for disease prevention. However, there are few studies that comprehensively and longitudinally evaluate the effectiveness of handwashing education for kindergarteners. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of continuous handwashing education using multiple activities to improve handwashing practices and skills among first- to third-grade students at a kindergarten in central Japan. A quasi-experimental one group pre- and post-test design was used. The education program consisted of three activities: (i) a 1-day teaching session by a researcher in January 2021, (ii) a 1-month follow-up activity led by kindergarten teachers and (iii) a 1-month follow-up activity led by parents at home, both occurring from late January to late February 2021. The study used questionnaires and handwashing skill experiments to investigate the kindergarteners' handwashing practices and comprehensive handwashing skills (handwashing steps, handwashing time, rinsing time and areas of the hands left unwashed) before and after Activities 1, 2 and 3. Data were obtained from 56 kindergarteners (64.4%). Second and third graders showed a significant improvement in their handwashing practices after coughing or sneezing. With the exception of rinsing time, handwashing skills significantly improved in all grades after the 1-day teaching session. After 1-month follow-up activities, the number of areas left unwashed by first graders significantly decreased, and the score for handwashing steps significantly improved. This study indicated that continuous handwashing education is partially effective at improving and maintaining handwashing practices and skills, except for rinsing time, among kindergarteners of all grades. The shifting demographics of school-aged children in the middle years, as well as predictions, suggest the enrolment of children who are culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) will continue to increase. The diversity of middle school students in today's classrooms underscores the significance of developing effective teaching strategies and policies to help ensure student success. This linguistic diversification presents a clear call for Health and Physical Education (HPE) educators to reach non-English speaking students with appropriate strategies. Scholarly literature clearly establishes the need, opportunity, and methods for effectively teaching physical literacy (PL) in CALD classrooms. Few articles, however, have been written about multicultural HPE methodologies for exposing and building preservice teachers' (PSTs) knowledge appropriate for CALD middle school children. This paper is about the perspectives of HPE PSTs enrolled in two 12-week elective HPE undergraduate units. We report those PSTs' learning experiences and knowledge of theoretical and practical physical literacy methods for teaching middle school CALD children. Data were collected using an online questionnaire. A key finding was that the PSTs believed they felt inadequately equipped to teach physical literacy to CALD children. The PSTs' perception was on account of a lack of knowledge and paucity of CALD information provided in their subjects. From here, we identified the need to focus on the CALD-specific pedagogical interventions to support the PSTs in using applicable language and terminology when conversing about physical literacy curriculum topics. The development of science has shifted the process of learning mathematics from previously only involving numbers to numbers that have meaning, one of which is in the form of stories. However, many problems still need to be solved with the concept of addition and subtraction in the form of story problems. This research aims to improve student learning outcomes in addition and subtraction material through story problems. This research used the Teacher Action Research (TAR) approach with 14 second-grade students at Ciren Elementary School, Indonesia as participants. This research also used two data collection methods: providing mathematical worksheets and observations carried out by special observers. Data analysis was carried out by looking at the mean student scores, reflecting through FGDs with observers, and filling in observation sheets by the teacher. Furthermore, the results of this research are presented in the form of teacher observation sheet scores and mathematical worksheet work results. The score results on the observation sheet show an increase in scores from learning in cycle 1 to cycle 2. In addition, the average score of students' mathematical worksheets after intervention in the form of dienes block media and mathematical worksheets always increases with pre-cycle details (48), cycle I (80), and cycle II (84). Thus, using dienes block media assisted by mathematical worksheets can have direct implications for improving mathematics learning in addition and subtraction operation material. An authoritative school climate, along with greater teacher support and warm relations among peers are frequently connected with less school bullying. The main aim of this paper is to examine the direct link as perceived by students between teachers' disciplinary practices and bullying in school and students' satisfaction with school. The indirect relationships are explored via the mediation of school belonging and the moderation of sex. High school students (N = 860, 40.4% male students) completed the Delaware School Climate Survey, the Multidimensional Students' Life Satisfaction Scale, and the Psychological Sense of School Membership Scale at a single time point. In general, teachers' disciplinary practices have significant direct effects on perceptions of bullying and satisfaction with school. Positive disciplinary (direct effect =.28, SE =.04) and SEL techniques (direct effect =.22, SE =.04) are related to bullying only among males, while punitive techniques are directly linked to school bullying unrelated to sex (b =.03, SE =.05). Similarly, the effect of positive disciplinary (direct effect =.27, SE =.08) and SEL (direct effect =.21, SE =.08) techniques on satisfaction with school was significant only among males. A direct relationship between punitive disciplinary techniques and satisfaction with school was not recognized. The mediation analysis revealed the indirect effects of teachers' disciplinary practices on the dependent variables via school belonging to be stronger among females. Teachers' negative modeling through punitive disciplinary practices leads to more bullying. School belonging may serve as a protective factor related to the negative impact of teachers' disciplinary practices on school bullying as well as satisfaction with school, especially among females. We examined the efficacy of a Technology-Based Early Language Comprehension Intervention (TeLCI) designed to teach inferencing in a non-reading context. A group of Grades 1 and 2 students from 2 elementary schools in the U.S. Midwest identified as at risk of comprehension difficulties were assigned randomly to a business-as-usual control group or to use TeLCI over an 8-week period. TeLCI comprised three learning modules per week that involved (a) learning new vocabulary, (b) watching fiction or nonfiction videos, and (c) answering inferential questions. Students also engaged in small-group read-alouds with their teachers once per week. Students who experienced TeLCI improved their inferencing and benefited from scaffolding and feedback provided during the intervention. Students’ pre- to posttest inferencing gains were comparable with those of control students. Female students and those receiving special education services appeared less likely to benefit from TeLCI, whereas multilingual students were more likely to respond. This study compares experiences of occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) and other elementary school educators when supporting students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The aim is to establish collaborative methods for OTPs and other educators to support students with ADHD. Recommendations to overcome barriers to supporting students with ADHD are made based on study findings and current research. An online survey of OTPs and other educators was conducted. The survey asked about the barriers to supporting elementary students with ADHD, and the training resources that would improve the ability to support students with ADHD. Responses from 147 OTPs and 35 other educators were compared using two-sample proportion tests. The groups shared common barriers and preferences for training resources, however, statistically significant (p < 0.05) differences were found in; 1) the barrier of limited knowledge and training about ADHD, with other educators being more limited by this barrier; and, 2) the preference for video formatted training, with other educators identifying a higher preference for this option. The data suggest that there is an opportunity for OTPs and other educators to collaboratively develop ADHD training videos for all educators to foster the success of elementary students with ADHD. This study introduces a framework for analyzing opportunities for mathematical reasoning (MR) in school mathematics, using MR-relevant claims and their derivation as the unit of analysis. We contend that this approach can effectively capture a broad range of opportunities for MR across various teaching situations. The framework, rooted in commognition, entails identifying necessary object-level narratives (NOLs) and the processes involved in their construction and substantiation. After theoretical development, the framework was refined through analyses of mathematics lessons in Norwegian primary school classrooms. Examples from the data illustrate how to utilize the framework in analysis and what such analyses can reveal in four typical teaching situations: the introduction of new mathematical objects, the introduction of procedures, work on exercise tasks, and work on problem-solving tasks. Drawing from the analysis of these examples, we discuss the value of the framework for analyzing MR in school mathematics and how such analysis can benefit teachers and researchers. An early detection of Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDDs) is crucial for their prognosis; however, the clinical heterogeneity of some disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is an obstacle to accurate diagnoses in children. In order to facilitate the screening process, the current study aimed to identify symptom‐based clusters among a community‐based sample of preschool and school‐aged children, using behavioral characteristics reported by teachers. A total of 6894 children were assessed on four key variables: social communication differences, restricted behavior patterns, restless‐impulsiveness, and emotional lability (pre‐schoolers) or inattention and hyperactivity‐impulsivity (school‐aged). From these behavioral profiles, four clusters were identified for each age group. A cluster of ASD + ADHD and others including children with no pathology was clearly identified, whereas two other clusters were characterized by subthreshold ASD and/or ADHD symptoms. In the school‐age children, the presence of ADHD was consistently observed with ASD patterns. In pre‐schoolers, teachers were more proficient at identifying children who received a diagnosis for either ASD and/or ADHD from an early stage. Considering the significance of early detection and intervention of NDDs, teachers' insights are important. Therefore, promptly identifying subthreshold symptoms in children can help to minimize consequences in social and academic functioning. This paper reports research that investigated how digital technologies were used to develop and maintain home–school connections and develop positive relationships when children transition to nursery schools and schools. School case studies, comprising four purposively selected schools with nursery provision in Northern Ireland and four primary schools in New Zealand, provided the context and evidence to enable a small-scale comparative study of how digital technologies enabled the development of relationships between homes and schools over time. In this paper, the findings were analysed using a conceptual model and framework derived from earlier studies in this field. However, given the contemporary social and technological context, it was found that the framework could be reviewed and elaborated, enabling the creation of a new conceptual framework that is offered here. Our findings reveal methods of employing digital technologies to positively support parental engagement when children transition to nurseries and schools. From the analysis of our findings using the framework developed, points to consider for future practice, policy, and research are highlighted, with an emphasis on understanding and integrating parents' aspirations into the transition process. Opportunities that use existing and emerging methods for home–school–community connections need to be made known to teachers and schools. While the digital technologies used must be capable of maintaining appropriate regular communication, additionally, supporting ways for involving parental voice in reviews of existing practices and exploring new opportunities should be shared with teachers and schools. Future research should explore how the use of digital technologies in developing wider and deeper engagement and participation of parents and carers with nurseries and schools might lead to a longer-term and positive engagement in later years beyond nursery schools and initial transition to school. This article examines the impact of teachers on student absences, with a focus on generational differences and the effect on Black and White students. The study reveals that Millennial teachers are more successful in reducing absences compared to Baby Boomer teachers, and this difference is more significant for Black students. The article explores various factors that may contribute to these disparities, such as variations in teacher quality, student-teacher relationships, and technological familiarity. The research, which utilizes administrative data from North Carolina, underscores the importance of considering teacher experience in the analysis. Recent studies indicate that Gen X and Millennial teachers are more effective in reducing student absences than Baby Boomer teachers. The research demonstrates that assignment to a Gen X teacher results in 0.18 fewer absences, while assignment to a Millennial teacher leads to 0.42 fewer absences. These generational discrepancies in teacher effectiveness are particularly notable for Black students, as Millennial teachers are more successful in reducing absences for this group compared to Baby Boomer teachers. However, the study also reveals that these improvements are primarily driven by White teachers. Participating in classroom mathematics conversations, particularly engaging with the opinions of others, can improve learners' mathematical comprehension. Teachers can use a variety of invitation and follow-up moves to encourage student engagement. The study aimed to explore teacher follow-up on learners' initial responses to teacher questions and building on learner ideas in Grade 9 mathematics classrooms. A qualitative approach and descriptive case study design were utilised. Data were collected from three schools in the same circuit in South Africa through classroom lesson observations, face-to-face teacher interviews and researchers' field notes. Three Grade 9 mathematics teachers, one from each school, were purposively selected, and the selected teachers' already established Grade 9 classes, with a maximum of 30 learners each (owing to the COVID-19 health protocol), were automatically involved. Cognitively guided instruction, a learner-centred approach that uses social constructivism as a research paradigm, guided this study. The exploration was supplemented by Brodie's conceptual framework on teacher follow-up moves. The findings revealed that the three teachers followed up on learner contributions and used different follow-up moves, namely insert, elicit, press, maintain and confirm. The study showed hybrid teacher moves. Although more teacher moves were skewed towards elicit and insert, which are closer to traditional practices, there is an indication of moving towards the press, maintain and confirm, which are reform-oriented moves. In addition to these moves identified by Brodie, acknowledging or praising the learner for responding was another move that emerged in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyzes the displacement of students in an elementary school after the implementation of the Full-Time Schools Program in Mexico and how this change was experienced by teachers. It is an intrinsic case study, with a qualitative approach, through participant observation and interviews with members of the school community. The results show at the local level the cycle of gentrification observed in the case study: the reinforcement of the program that improved the conditions of the school and increased its prestige in the municipality, a greater demand for admission, in which the sectors with better socioeconomic conditions mobilized various strategies to secure a place, and the ousting of the original student body. The primary purpose of this article is to provide an overview of a strengths-based group counseling intervention based on the Achieving Success Everyday Group Model which was implemented with African American third-grade boys who needed to attend summer school in order to transition successfully to fourth grade. The intervention resulted from the partnership between a counselor education faculty member and a small charter school's school-counseling supervisor in the northeast U.S. The group leaders' and participants' reported experiences indicating reinforced basic reading and writing skills among students. The present study aimed to investigate teachers' use and perceptions of digital technology to promote learning and participation for all young students in early reading and writing education in inclusive primary schools. Primary school teachers [N = 289] in Sweden were asked to complete a survey about digital technology in reading and writing education. The data were analysed statistically and with summative content analysis. The results showed that 82% of the teachers were interested in teaching young students to read and write using digital technology. More than 50% of the teachers included digital technology to promote students' learning of phonological awareness, decoding skills, vocabulary, spelling, or text editing every week, and 74% used digital technology to support students with special needs every week. Those who perceived digital technology as a facilitator of all students' participation in early reading and writing education also reported that they used digital technology to promote different reading and writing skills more frequently. Their perceived knowledge of managing digital technology was also positively related to their perception of digital technology as a facilitator of students' participation in reading and writing education. Teachers who are positive about digital technology perceive such technology as beneficial for all students in reading and writing education, also for those students who have special needs. Teachers use digital technology to compensate students with special needs in reading and writing. The results of data analysis show a significant difference between learning outcomes in the experimental class and the control class with a Sig (2-tailed) result of 0.000 and a small effect size. The results of data analysis can then be said that there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes of the experimental and control groups, however the treatment in this study showed a small effect on learning.
