Abstract

Schools are becoming more stressful work environments, and teachers are becoming more vulnerable to job-related stress because of innovation overload, high job demands, and work-family conflict (WFC). Enhancing teachers' psychological capacities may prove helpful in managing stress under such work conditions. While past research has focused on the relationship between WFC and stress, there is limited empirical evidence in the education context on the effect of psychological capital (PsyCap) on changing the magnitude of (moderating) the interplays between WFC and stress. Therefore, this study investigates the moderation effect of teachers' positive PsyCap on the relationship between teachers' WFC and job stress. We adopted a quantitative research method and collected data from a randomly selected sample of 385 teachers in Siirt, a city in the South-East region of Turkey. Data were analyzed through descriptive, correlation, and hierarchical moderated regression statistics. Results indicated that WFC increases teachers' job stress, and PsyCap moderates the relationship between WFC and job stress by mitigating the effects of WFC on teachers' job stress. Abstract

Bu tezin temel amacı ilköğretim okullarında görev yapan öğretmenlerin sosyal paylaşım sitelerini kullanma durumunun, okul kültürüne katkısının belirlenen değişkenler açısından incelenmesidir. Araştırma evrenini, Gaziantep il merkezindeki resmi devlet okullarında görevli ilköğretim öğretmenleri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemini ise Gaziantep il merkezindeki 25 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan 340 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen veriler örgütsel kültür ve sosyal ağların unsurlarını kapsayacak şekilde geliştirilen 42 maddelik bir ölçekle toplanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler, t-testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi teknikleri kullanılarak test edilmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda, sosyal paylaşım sitelerini kullanma durumunun okul kültürüne katkısına yönelik erkekler bayanlara göre; kişisel bilgisayarı olanlar olmayanlara göre; Facebook kullananlar diğer sosyal ağları kullananlara göre; sosyal ağlarda çok zaman geçirenler az zaman geçirenlere göre; sosyal ağ profillerinde gerçek kişisel bilgilerini kullananlar kullanmayanlara göre daha olumlu görüş bildirmişlerdir. Boyut ortalamaları göz önüne alındığında ise ?katılıyorum? değerine çok yakın olmakla birlikte tüm boyutlarda ?katılmıyorum? görüşü ağır basmaktadır. Madde bazında ise 30 maddede ?katılmıyorum? 12 maddede ise ?katılıyorum? görüşü öne çıkmaktadır. The aim of the current study is to analyze the contributions of social networks usage to school culture on primary school teachers in terms of certain variables. The population consists of primary school teachers working in public schools in Gaziantep, and the sampling consists of 340 teachers from 25 of these schools. The data was gathered by using a 42-scale questionnaire which contains the elements of social networks and organizational culture. T-test and One-Way Anova were used in the statistical analysis process. The analysis revealed that in terms of contributions of social networks usage to school culture male teachers compared to female teachers; teachers who own personal computers compared to teachers who do not own a personal computer; teachers who use Facebook compared to teachers who use social networks other than Facebook; teachers who spend more time on social networks compared to teachers who spend less time on social networks and teachers with real identities compared to teachers with fake identities on social networks revealed more positive opinions. When dimensional mean scores are taken into consideration, in all scale parameters the option ?I don?t agree.? seems to be the dominant option although this option is quite close to the ?I agree.? option. In terms of scaling items, the option ?I don?t agree.? seems to come forward in 30 items, and the item ?I agree.? comes forward in 12 items. 119
