Coll, Doncaster private coll. Purch. 1927, slide AV6468³ Volynkin (Coll. OUMNH). Diagnosis. The forewing length is 10 mm in males and 11 mm in the female. The detailed comparison of L. cernyi and L. ratnasambhava sp. n. is provided above under the diagnosis of the new species. Distribution. Northern Myanmar (Kachin State) and Northeast India (Meghalaya, new country record).

Letrasilta ratnasambhava S.-Y. Huang, Volynkin & Yin, sp. n. Figs. 2, 3, 16, 23 urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act: 88AC6027-D79E-4574-879B-B6B5EBADE08B Type material. Holotype. male (Fig. 2, 16), 4.VI.2017, Beibeng Village, Motuo County, Linzhi City, Xizang Autonomous Region, China, Zhao-hui Pan leg., slide STS-40507, voucher number Lit 13 (TAAHU). Paratype. 1 female, same locality and collector as holotype, but 11. VI.2017, slide STS-40562, voucher number Lit14 (TAAHU). Diagnosis. The forewing length is 10 mm in the male holotype and 10. 5 mm in the female paratype. Letrasilta ratnasambhava sp. n. is externally reminiscent of L. cernyi comb. n. but is distinguished by the narrower medial line of the forewing and the indistinct medial line of the hindwing. In male genitalia capsule, L. ratnasambhava sp. n. differs from L. cernyi in the narrower distal section of the costa, the markedly longer and apically rounded distal costal process (whereas it is apically pointed in L. cernyi), the larger distal membranous lobe, and the distally narrower distal saccular process. The phallus vesica of L. ratnasambhava sp. n. is largely similar to that of L. cernyi but differs in the longer cornuti in the subbasal cluster. The female genitalia of L. ratnasambhava sp. n. differ from L. cernyi in the broader posterior sclerotised section of the ductus bursae and the more rounded corpus bursae, which is elliptical in the congener. Distribution. The new species is currently known only from Motuo County in southeastern Xizang, southwestern China. Etymology. The specific epithet ratnasambhava is derived from one of the five principal buddhas in Tibetan Buddhism, the Buddha Ratnasambhava. The represent colour of Ratnasambhava is yellow, similar to the colouration in the new species. The A. hyalina species-group is characterized by the combination of the following characters: 1) forewing base orange or ochreous, usually with one diffused transverse band at discal area, extending from the costa through the discal cell and reaching the dorsum, 2) 8 th tergite with its posterior part bifurcate (except for A. formosana), 3) uncus broad and triangular and 4) posterior tegumenal projection narrow and rod-like, smooth on the surface. External morphology of adult. Forewing length approximately 17–28 mm in males and 17.5– 30 mm in females. Antennae bipectinate with longer rami in males and shorter ones in females. Head, thorax and abdomen thinly-scaled. Both wings thinly-scaled and translucent. Ground color of forewing varying from creamy white to yellow with orange-marked forewing base and one transverse band in the medial zone, usually diffused. Veins darkened. Ground color of hindwing creamy white or greyish white. Veins sometimes darkened. Male genitalia. Uncus broad at base and gradually narrowed towards tip with distal end rounded. Tegumen broad with rounded margins. Posterior tegumenal projection rod-like, narrow and smooth on the surface. Vinculum narrow. Saccus rounded, U-shaped. Juxta U-shaped. Valvae relatively broad and short, strongly sclerotized; distal end usually plate-like, covered by spinules, and sometimes developed into a projection, smooth or spiny. Aedeagus simple and slender. Female genitalia. Similar to those of the A. pica species-group described above. Distribution. Agalope jianqingi S.-Y. Huang sp. n. (Figs 29, 53, 55) Type material. Holotype: male, 14.V.2009, Pianma Town, Lushui City, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, P. R. China, Jian-qing Zhu leg., slide PMAG1 (CHSY, will be subsequently deposited in ZFMK). Diagnosis. Length of forewing 19. 3 mm. Agalope jianqingi sp. n. is reminiscent of A. primularis Butler, 1875 (Figs 30, 54, 56) from Eastern Nepal and Northeastern India for sharing a similar 8 th tergite, which bears two narrow and slender processes, whereas in other congeners these processes are thick and stout or absent (Owada 1992; Horie 1993; Owada & Horie 2000), but it can be immediately distinguished from A. primularis by the combination of the following characters: 1) male forewing ground color is creamy white instead of yellow in A. primularis; 2) posterior tegumenal projection is much broader and longer; 3) notch between the lobes of juxta is wider and deeper; 4) valva is more slender, with the distal part longer and 5) aedeagus shorter and broader. Distribution. Known from Pianma Town (Fig. 62) located at the border of China and Myanmar in Western Yunnan, P. R. China. Etymology. The specific epithet jianqingi is dedicated to the Chinese entomologist Mr. Jian-qing Zhu, a friend of the first author and an expert in the taxonomy of Hesperiidae.

Distribution. Known from Northwestern and Western Yunnan (Fig. 63), P. R. China. Remarks. Agalope lucia was described based on an uncertain number of females collected from Tsekou, Northwestern Yunnan (Now Cigu Village, Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan, P. R. China), and subsequently included in the A. pica species-group by Yen et al. (2005). However, after the discovery of the previously unknown male, this enigmatic species turns out to be a close relative of A. dejeani (Figs 26, 27, 52), distributed in Northwestern Sichuan, due to the presence of small, narrow and smooth posterior tegumenal projection in the male genitalia. Hence A. lucia is excluded from the A. pica species-group and included in the A. bieti species-group. The Agalope pica species-group Species included: Agalope aurelia Oberthür, 1923, A. chayuensis S.-Y. Huang & Pan sp. n., A. haoi S.-Y. Huang sp. n., A. owadai S.-Y. Huang sp. n., A. pica Wileman, 1910, A. trimacula Matsumura, 1927, A. wangi Owada, 1992. Diagnosis. The A. pica species-group differs from the other species-groups, except the A. bieti species-group, by the combination of the following characters: 1) forewing costa usually with an orange-colored spot at the base, forewing with two transverse bands of various shapes from costa to dorsum or vein 1A+2A, 2) in male genitalia, uncus narrow and tongue-shaped and the posterior tegumenal projection plate-like, broad, and rugose on the surface. From the A. bieti species-group, the A. pica species-group can be distinguished by the structure of the posterior tegumenal projection arising from the inner margin of tegumen, which is broad and rugose in the A. pica species-group, while that is narrow and smooth in the A. bieti species-group. Moreover, in the A. pica species-group the posterior part of the medial band of forewing is usually more or less situated in a line with the anterior part, while in the A. bieti species-group the posterior part of the medial band is clearly shifting inwards (except for A. bieti (Oberthür, 1886)). The female genitalia of these two species-groups share the same ground plan and do not show significant differences. External morphology of adult. Forewing length 18–27 mm in males and 16–27 mm in females. Antennae bipectinate with longer rami in males and shorter ones in females. Head, thorax and abdomen nearly glabrous, with abdomen sometimes covered by thin piliform scales dorsally. Both wings thinly scaled and transparent. Forewing upperside ground color varying from greyish white to pale yellow, with base marked with orange and transverse bands presenting in antemedial and medial zone, in certain species an additional basal band present. Veins usually darkened especially for postmedial area. Hindwing upperside usually darkened at margin. Veins usually darkened. Male genitalia. Uncus broad at base, its distal part tongue-shaped, narrow and thick, with tip flat or slightly bilobed. Tegumen broad with rounded margins. Posterior tegumenal projection plate-like, broad and rugose on the surface. Vinculum narrow. Saccus broad U-shaped and rounded. Juxta elongated, uni- or bilobed distally, with distal part of the lobe covered by spinules on the surface and lateral margins in some species. Valvae slender, costa strongly sclerotized in the outer half; sacculus strongly sclerotized thoroughly, distal saccular process spiniform, pointed outwards. Aedeagus narrow, broader at base and gradually narrowed towards distal end. Female genitalia. Papillae anales slender. Apophysis posterioris longer than apophysis anterioris, both strongly sclerotized. Eighth tergite partially well-sclerotized and formed a triangular plate. Ostium bursae narrow and rounded. Ductus bursae narrow and membranous. Corpus bursae pyriform, membranous. Signa paired, strongly or weakly sclerotized, covered by spinules at the surface. Distribution. The Agalope bieti species-group Species included: A. basiflava (Moore, 1879b), A. bieti (Oberthür, 1886), A. dejeani Oberthür, 1893, A. lucia Oberthür, 1923. Diagnosis. See above in the diagnosis of the A. pica species-group. Remarks. Within the A. bieti species-group, A. bieti (Fig. 28) is different from its two Chinese congeners, A. dejeani and A. lucia by the posterior part of the antemedial and medial bands not bent inwards but straightly reaching the dorsum instead. The feature in fact, fits well with that of certain species in the A. pica species-group, e. g. A. haoi sp. n. In addition, the externally similar A. haoi sp. n. described above is a member of A. pica species-group without any doubt, so there is a possibility that A. bieti should also be assigned to A. pica species-group. However, this conclusion can only be asserted after examining the genitalia of A. bieti. Distribution. Agalope chayuensis S.-Y. Huang & Pan sp. n. (Figs 5–7, 34–36) Type material. Holotype: male, 1.VIII.2017, Longgu Village, Chayu County, Linzhi City, Xizang Autonomous Region, P. R. China, leg. Jing-kuo Hu, slide STS-34878 (TAAHU). Paratypes: 2 males, same data as the holotype, slides STS-34879 & STS-34880 (TAAHU). Diagnosis. Length forewing 24.4–27.3 mm in male (27.3 mm in holotype). Agalope chayuensis sp. n. is reminiscent of A. pica (Figs 8–10, 37, 38) from Taiwan, but it can be easily distinguished from the latter by the combination of the following characters: 1) size larger, length of forewing 24.4–27.3 mm against 20.4–23.3 mm in A. pica; 2) apex of forewing is somewhat protruding outwards, while in A. pica it is more rounded; 3) darkish pattern on forewing is pale blackish brown, less contrasting with the pale ground color, while in A. pica the darkish pattern is deeper and more contrasting; 4) antemedial band on forewing is more regular and intact, while that in A. pica is irregular and often broken; 5) uncus is slightly broader; 6) branches of the basal part of the uncus is shorter (indicated by arrow in both species in Figs. 34–38). Agalope chayuensis sp. n. is also similar to A. aurelia (Figs 16–20, 43, 44, 49, 50, 60) from Western Yunnan, China and A. owadai sp. n. (Figs 11–15, 39–42, 45–48, 59) from Bomi and Jiali Counties, Xizang, China described below by sharing similar forewing shape and transverse bands on forewing upperside, but it can be easily distinguished from both species by the shape of the juxta, which is smooth, spade-like and not bifurcate, similar to that of A. pica, while in A. aurelia and A. owadai sp. n. it is clearly bifurcate apically and each lobe is covered by spinules. Female unknown. Distribution. Known from Chayu County (Fig. 66) in SE Xizang, P. R. China. Etymology. The specific epithet chayuensis is derived from the type locality, Chayu County.

Agalope haoi S.-Y. Huang sp. n. (Figs 1, 2, 31, 57) Type material. Holotype: male, 16. VIII. 2018, Pantiange, Weixi County, Yunnan Province, P. R. China, leg. Hao Huang, slide ZSY220 (CHSY, will be subsequently deposited in ZFMK). Paratype: 1 female, same locality and collector as the holotype, but 3.VIII.2018, slide ZSY221 (CHSY). Diagnosis. Length of forewing 21. 3 mm in male (holotype) and 17. 8 mm in female (paratype). Agalope haoi sp. n. is reminiscent of A. wangi (Figs 3, 4, 32, 33, 58) from Taiwan island and A. bieti (Fig. 28) from Ta-tsien-lu (currently surroundings of Kangding City, Western Sichuan, China), but it can be easily distinguished from the former by the combination of the following characters: 1) antemedial and medial bands of the forewing are well-developed, straight, broader near costa and gradually narrowing towards dorsum, while both bands are narrower and obsolete in A. wangi; 2) discal area of the hindwing is whitish, while it is brownish in A. wangi; 3) uncus is shorter and narrower, posterior tegumenal projection slightly narrower, and juxta bilobed at the distal end, while in A. wangi the distal end of juxta is flat; 4) in female genitalia the 8 th tergite is much narrower and band-like (indicated by arrow in Fig. 57) and the ductus bursae is shorter, while in A. wangi the 8 th tergite is broader (indicated by arrow in Fig. 58) and triangular-shaped, and the ductus bursae is longer. From A. bieti, A. haoi sp. n. can be distinguished by the combination of the following characters: 1) antemedial and medial bands of forewing are thinner especially in the posterior part; 2) hindwing upperside is more whitish, while it is darker and diffused with much more blackish-brown scales in A. bieti; 3) distal end of juxta is bilobed and V-shaped, while that of juxta is truncate and with concave distal margin in A. bieti (according to Yen et al. 2005). Distribution. Known from Weixi County in Northwestern Yunnan province, P. R. China. Etymology. The specific epithet haoi is dedicated to the collector of the type series, Mr. Hao Huang. Remarks. Although the forewing pattern of the new species is quite similar to that of A. bieti, and thus the possibility of conspecificity exists, we still classify them as two species. Apart from the morphological differences stated above, the geographical distribution pattern of A. bieti and A. haoi sp. n. is very much similar to that of A. lucia and A. dejeani Oberthür, 1893 (Fig. 68), with one found in Western Sichuan and another found in Western or Northwestern Yunnan, both restricted in relatively high altitude. Interestingly, the external differences of A. haoi sp. n. and A. bieti also well correspond with those between A. lucia (Figs 21–25) and A. dejeani (Figs 26, 27), with one paler and the other one darker. China, slides JLAG1 & JLAG2 (CHSY). Diagnosis. Length forewing 21.5–25.8 mm in male (25.6 mm in holotype) and 25–28.7 mm in female. In general A. owadai sp. n. is reminiscent of A. aurelia (Figs 16–20, 43, 44, 49, 50, 60) from Yunnan, China, but it can be easily distinguished from the latter by the combination of the following characters: 1) darkish pattern of forewing from the postmedial to marginal section of the wing is paler and less contrasting with the ground color; 2) lobes of the bifurcate juxta are covered by larger spinules laterally and dorsally (Figs 45–48); while in A. aurelia they are covered by smaller spinules laterally and much lesser and smaller ones dorsally (Figs 49, 50); 3) aedeagus is significantly more slender medially and distally; 4) corpus bursae is much smaller with signa weakly sclerotized, smaller and obsolete, while in A. aurelia the corpus bursae is much larger with signum strongly sclerotized, larger and prominent. Agalope owadai sp. n. is also superficially similar to A. chayuensis sp. n. described above and the comparison has been made in the diagnosis of the former species. Distribution. Known from Bomi (Fig. 67) and Jiali Counties in Southeastern and Eastern Xizang, P. R. China. Etymology. The specific epithet owadai is dedicated to the Japanese lepidopterologist Dr. Mamoru Owada, who is also an expert in the taxonomy of Chalcosiinae and encouraged the first author to continue his study on this intriguing subfamily. Remarks. Individual variation in the male genitalia of A. owadai sp. n. has been observed in the depth of the notch at the distal end of uncus and juxta, length of the juxta and the distal saccular process as well as the size and shape of posterior tegumenal projection. Female MEASUREMENTS. Body length 13 mm, wing length 15 mm, antenna length 2.4 mm (n = 1). COLORATION. Body color slightly paler than male. Antenna shorter than male, dark yellow. Legs paler than male, tibiae and tarsi dark yellow. Abdominal tergites each with three stripes, middle stripe brown, lateral stripes brownish black, abdominal 7–8 segments yellowish brown, 8th segment dark brown. Junction of each 3–9 segments brownish black (Fig. 77). OVIPOSITOR. Tergite 9 yellowish brown, tergite 10 yellow. Cercus dark yellow, slightly up-turned, outer margin without rough serration (Fig. 78). Distribution China (Tibet). Remarks The new species is similar to T. (V.) theowaldana Alexander, 1964 from Assam, India, but the latter differs in the following characters: basal abdominal tergites yellow; gonocoxite ends sharp and not hooked; tergite 9 with a pair of larger and elongate lobes. The species may form a new species group, perhaps together with T. (V.) theowaldana. However, we have not examined the specimens of the latter species and can therefore not say with certainty if these two species share characteristics that would separate them from existing species groups.

Tergite 9 longitudinally divided into two parts, slightly connected. Sternite 9 with a median prominence, adminiculum with a pair of sharp projections on both sides. Outer gonostylus black with yellow bristles, bent, willow leaf shaped (Figs 44, 48). Inner gonostylus with a slanted bar like raise; upper beak sharp, curled inward (Figs 45, 48). Semen pump (Figs 46–47) as shown in figures. Aedeagus with a sclerotized suborbicular appendage at base. Female MEASUREMENTS. Body length 17.5 mm, wing length 17 mm, antenna length 3 mm (n = 1). COLORATION. Body color slightly darker than male. Antenna relatively shorter than male. Scape and pedicel yellow, flagellar segments 1–4 bicolor yellow with pale brown base, other segments pale brown. Brown and black part of legs paler than male. Wing same as male except knob of halter without pale tip. Abdominal tergites each with three stripes, middle stripe brown, lateral stripes black, abdominal segments 5–7 yellowish brown, and brown gradually deepened, 8 th segment dark brown. Other characteristics as in male (Fig. 42). OVIPOSITOR. Tergite 9 dark brown, tergite 10 shining reddish brown. Cercus brown, tip slightly upturned, outer margin with rough serration (Fig. 43). Distribution China (Tibet). Remarks The new species is similar to T. (V.) coxitalis Alexander, 1935 from Anhui and Taiwan, China, but the latter differs in the following characters: gonocoxite ends with a slightly twisted spine; outer gonostylus narrow, filiform; inner gonostylus without slanted bar-like raise; sternite 9 near caudal end on either side of midline with a conspicuous hair pencil of reddish bristles, these pencils not arising from basal tubercles (Men 2015). This species is similar to T. (V.) bicalcarata Savchenko, 1965 and T. (V.) maoershanensis Men & Young, 2017, but the outer gonostylus of the latter is not willow leaf shaped. The posterior margin of inner gonostylus with a finger-like protrusion (Men et al. 2017).

Etymology The species is named after the uncinatus of the adminiculum, the Latin adjective ‘ uncinella ’ means ‘bearing hooks, barbed’. Description Male MEASUREMENTS. Body length 14.0 mm, wing length 18.0–20.0 mm, antenna length 3.0–3.5 mm (n = 22). HEAD (Figs 10, 12). Mainly yellow. Occipital stripe dark gray. Rostrum and nasus yellow. Setae on head brown. Scape and pedicel yellow, flagellum grayish yellow. Proboscis and palpus brownish yellow. THORAX (Figs 10, 12). Mainly yellow, heavily pruinose. Pronotum brownish yellow with yellow setae. Prescutum with four grayish yellow stripes, all stripes with brown margins, median stripe broadened apically and gradually narrowing to base, lateral stripes long-oval. Scutum yellow with four grayish yellow spots, anterior margins of anterior two spots brown. Scutellum yellow with dark brown midlongitudinal stripe. Mediotergite yellow with brown mid-longitudinal stripe. Thoracic pleuron yellow. Parascutellum yellow. Meron yellow. Setae on thorax yellow. Legs with coxae and femora yellow, femora with dark brown apices, tibiae and tarsi dark brown. Setae on legs dark brown. Wing variegated light brown; pterostigma brown; petiole of cell m1 distinctly shorter than discal cell (Fig. 11). Halter with stem yellow, knob pale black with pale yellow apex. ABDOMEN (Figs 10, 12). Mainly yellow. Abdominal tergites each with three brown stripes. Abdominal segments 5–9 dark brown to black. Setae on abdomen brownish yellow. HYPOPYGIUM (Figs 13–17, 20). Gonocoxite elongated, separated from sternite 9, posterior margin with an unusually strong and slender black spine, directed chiefly dorsally, slightly twisted. Tergite 9 separated medially, middle of posterior margin of lobe slightly protrude; a pair of angular black arms arising from ventral surface of tergite 9, surface of arms not smooth, with granulated margin. Sternite 9 with a median prominence. Adminiculum narrow spade-like, apex slightly furcal, ventral caudal part with a small uncinate projection. Outer gonostylus anteriorly bent, posterior margin of basal half truncated (Fig. 16). Inner gonostylus with concavity at middle, posterior margin with big semicircular bulge; base of posterior margin of inner gonostylus without a small protrusion; upper beak slightly twisted, lower beak curved, middle concave (Fig. 14). Semen pump (Figs 18–19) as shown in figures. Aedeagus wide, basal width about 0.5 mm, gradually narrowing towards apex, and apex not bifurcated. Female Unknown or unrecognized. Distribution China (Tibet). Remarks The new species is similar to T. (V.) schizophallus (Alexander, 1973), but the latter differs in the following characters: arms of tergite 9 with only inner margin roughened; gonocoxite with an additional small spine (the one near posterior margin of basistylar suture); outer gonostylus with very abundant black setae from conspicuous punctures; apex of adminiculum profoundly divided into two long parallel spines, ventral caudal part without uncinatus. It is also similar T. (V.) deserrata Alexander, 1934 and T. (V.) factiosa Alexander, 1940, but the posterior margin of inner gonostylus in the latter has no protrusion. The posterior margin of tergite 9 of T. (V.) factiosa is smooth, its arms are large and strong.

Sternite 9 with a median prominence. Outer gonostylus sclerotized, brownish black, without setae except margins of apex and base with few setae. Inner gonostylus with setae dorsally; upper beak with a horn-like elevation bearing 2 setae at tip, base of upper beak with 2 distinct setae; inner gonostylus with setae dorsally (Fig. 55). Female See Brunetti (1911). Distribution China (Tibet, Yunnan); India (Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, W Bengal); Myanmar; Vietnam. Remarks Here, we add new distributional data and new illustrations. Yigong Township is now the current northernmost distribution of T. (V.) himalayensis. The species was considered by Brunetti to be variable but within certain limits and can be easily recognized by the pale yellow wide ring on all the femora about as far from the tip as the width of the ring. We examined other additional material, in addition to the previously indicated: 1 ♂ (paratype) Darjiling; 6000 feet a.s.l.; 22 Sep. 1908; Brunetti (USNM) / 1 ♂ (syntype) Darjiling; 20 Oct. 1905; Brunetti (BMNH(E)#246064). There is no difference in the characteristics of the femora of the three, but the wing veins are slightly different. It seems that the difference in the wing veins shown in Joseph’s illustrations (Joseph 1974) can be regarded as intraspecific variation. But there are also some differences in the shape of inner gonostylus as shown in the illustrations, especially the beak different from others. Thoracic pleuron brownish yellow. All sterno-pleurite with dark brown margins. Setae on thorax yellow. Legs with coxae yellow, femora with dark brown tips; tibiae and tarsi dark brown. Setae on legs dark brown. Wing variegated pale brown; pterostigma brown; petiole of cell m 1 distinctly shorter than discal cell (Fig. 31). Halter with stem yellow, knob greyish black. ABDOMEN (Figs 30, 32). Mainly yellow. Abdominal tergites each with three stripes, middle stripe brown, bilateral stripes black. Abdominal segments 6–9 dark black. Setae on abdomen brownish yellow. HYPOPYGIUM (Figs 33–38). Gonocoxite slightly elongated, separated from sternite 9. Tergite 9 longitudinally divided into two parts, posterior margin with long setae, and a bridge between them, a pair of angular arms arising from ventral surface of tergite 9. Sternite 9 with a pair of very short appendages, as shown in figure, with a long seta (Fig. 35), covered by inner gonostylus and not visible in the lateral external view. Outer gonostylus relatively small, posterior margin basally slightly wide (Fig. 34). Inner gonostylus with concavity at middle, concavity with many bristles, lower margin with bristled raise; base of inner gonostylus inward-rolled, enwrapped black and swollen lower beak; upper beak relatively obtuse, slightly recurved (Fig. 36). Female. Apical margin of abdominal sternite VIII without emargination. Comparative notes. Regarding the external morphology, H. danlangi sp. n. is similar to H. carbonarius sp. n., but differs by shapes of the pronotum and the labrum, the absence of additional small tooth in inner margin of mandibles, and the shape of apical portion of the aedeagus. Distribution. Southwestern China: Xizang, Yunnan (Fig. 7). Bionomics. Specimens were collected in the same ecological condition together with H. carbonarius s p. n. (see above) in Gongbujiangda County of Xizang. Several specimens were collected in the neighboring Bayi District of Xizang (Fig. 8). Etymology. Female. Unknown. Comparative notes. Hygrodromicus shaanxiensis sp. n. differs from the remaining species of the genus by the shape of the median lobe and structure of the internal sac. Distribution. Central China: Qinling Mountains, Shaanxi (Fig. 7). Bionomics. The specimen was collected at elevation about 2100 m a.s.l. and was taken from mixed leaf litter near a stream. Etymology. Female. Apical margin of abdominal sternite VIII without concavity apically. Comparative notes. Based on the general shape of the forebody, coloration, shapes of maxillary and labial palpi, the presence of U-shaped impression between eyes, and shapes of apical margins of male tergite and sternite VIII, H. carbonarius sp. n. is most similar to H. danlangi sp. n., but differs by the wider pronotum, the presence of additional small tooth in inner margins of mandible, less concaved apical margin of labrum, and details of the internal and external morphology of the aedeagus. Distribution. Southwestern China: Xizang, Yunnan (Fig. 7). Bionomics. The species inhabits wet mosses or mixed leaf litter on banks of small streams with very cold water (Fig. 8B). Specimens were collected at high elevations more than 3000 m a.s.l. in Xizang in July and in Yunnan in August. Etymology. China: Xinjiang; widely distributed in the Palaearctic region. Remarks. Makhan & Ezzatpanah (2011) described Mylabris aschnae from Iran. According to the description and illustrations, it almost has the same characters as M. calida: elytra yellow, with two black spots at basal quarter, two black fasciae in middle and at apical quarter respectively; parameres sub-triangular in lateral view and with a light longitudinal fascia; and dorsal hooks of penis slender, the distal one closed to the proximal one and far from the apex. For this reason, M. aschnae is synonymized to M. calida in the revised and updated version of ���Catalogue of Palaearctic Coeloptera (Vol. 5: Tenebrionoidea)��� by Bologna (in press). This represents a detailed explanation of this synonym. The validity of Zonabris posticalis Dokhtouroff, 1889 is doubtful. It was treated as a synonym (Sumakov 1915, 1924, 1930), subspecies (Kaszab 1957), variety (Kaszab 1959), or aberration (Kaszab 1941) of M. calida, but also as a valid species (Kaszab 1958a, 1973, 1981; Bologna 2008). One of us (Z. Pan) examined some specimens determined as Z. posticalis by Kaszab (HNHM), and considered those specimens are not different from M. calida except the variable elytral pattern. The type locality of Epicauta xantusi ab. unicolora Kaszab, 1952 is ���Hweisin, Kansu ���. Růžička et al. (2002) indicated this locality was Hua Xian, and gave its longitude and latitude, ca. 33��46��N 106��04��E. How-ever, no county is named Hua in Gansu Province. We searched the longitude and latitude, and found this locality is placed in the Hui County (= Huxian, in Chinese) of Longnan City, Ganus, which has a similar pronunciation to ���Hweinsin���. Therefore, we considered the correct name of the type locality as Hui County. E. xantusi Kaszab, 1952 could be distinguished from E. obscurocephala by their red temples, according to its original description (Kaszab 1952a). Based on the examination of the type specimens of these two species, we confirm Kaszab���s point of view. However, after the study of more than 400 specimens (MHBU), we found that the red portion of temples varies greatly. Especially, in a few cases, the temples have only a very small brown spot, which are almost invisible. Meanwhile, as in the case of E. sibirica (Pallas, 1773), we conclude that this feature is not useful to determine species in Epicauta (Liu et al. 2016). Batelka & H��jek (2015) discussed the morphological identity of Denierella striolata and Epicauta thailandica, transferred E. thailandica to the genus Denierella, and pointed out that D. striolata is a junior synonym of D. thailandica. Yang & Ren (2007a) considered that D. striolata differs from D. venerabilis by ���more parts of the body with long black setae���; male antennomere II three times as long as wide, X shorter than III; pronotum longer than wide, hardly depressed at base; median longitudinal light pubescent stripe nearly extending to the apex of elytron, and as broad as that along outer margin���. According to the examination of the type material of both taxa (see above), we discovered that D. venerabilis has the same features of D. striolata. Wang et al. (2012a) suggested that Lytta choui is similar to L. suturella (Motschulsky, 1860), but can be distinguished by the following characters: ���head with a rhombic orange spot on frontal; bearing two protibial spurs, the inner one long and stout, the outer one shorter and thin; 8th tergum sharply angulate on margin; the hollow of the front margin of prothorax shallow; median lobe with a well-developed ventral spine���. We examined the type of L. choui and other specimens from Mt. Xiaowutai (the type locality of L. choui) identified as L. suturella, and conclude that the above features do not support L. choui as a valid species. Remarks. E. makliniana is distinctive in the genus Epicauta for the elytra densely covered by ocher setae. Tan & Deng (1993) described E. mojiangensis, and pointed out that it was allied to E. maklini (= E. makliniana), but differed from it by the different color pattern of the elytra (the latter without three ocher longitudinal strips on each elytron). However, E. makliniana also has these longitudinal strips, but was described by Haag-Rutenberg (1880) in a different way: ���Fl��geldecken nicht viel breiter als der Thorax, 3mal so lang als zusammen breit, nach hinten sich verbreiternd, br��unlich, dicht ockergelb behaart, mit Ausnahme der Spitze, der Schultern und eines ��fter undeutlichen Flecks neben dem Schildchen; von Sculptur ist kaum etwas zu bemerken���. Remarks. Zonabris calida var. baicalica Pic, 1919 was included in the intraspecific variation or synonymy of Mylabris calida (Pallas, 1782) (Sumakov 1930; Bologna 2008). After the examination of the type of Z. calida var. baicalica, we found that its frons lacks red spots, antennomere XI is sub-ovoid, with blunt apex (such as Fig. 20), and ventrite V is totally black. So, we considered it as a junior synonym of M. aulica. Mylabris aulica was poorly known until now and usually named as M. calida in the Chinese literature (Tan 1986; Yuan et al. 1988; Ma et al. 1991; Guo 1994; Tan et al. 1995; Lei & Zhou 1998; Zhu et al. 1999; Pan et al. 2010a, b, 2011b, 2013b; Wang et al. 2013). Batelka & H��jek (2015) revised Epicauta emmerichi and designated its lectotype. In the collections of MNHN, one of us (Z. Pan) found four specimens labeled as the lectotype and paralectotypes designated by Batelka & H��jek (2015). Meanwhile, another specimen with different labels was also found at MNHN, but labeled as ���co-type���. So, we designated the mentioned five specimens as paralectotypes. Batelka & H��jek (2015), different form Bologna (2008), considered Epicauta apicipennis Tan, 1958 as a junior synonym of D. emmerichi according to the comments of Kaszab (1960) and Yang & Ren (2007a). One of us (Z. Pan) examined one paratype of E. apicipennis at IZCAS and confirms the synonymy. Makhan (2013) described Epicauta rishwani from Mt. Jinyunshan of Chongqing, China, with a brief description, but clear illustrations. The illustrations show that E. rishwani has the same features, e.g. the apex of elytra with gray setation, apical lobes of parameres very short in lateral view, and penis with large distal hook, as D. emmerichi. Meanwhile, D. Makhan (personal communication) confirmed that the ventral side of the claw dorsal blade has teeth. Remarks. This species was originally described as Zonitis. Here we propose a new combination for it based on the study of the type specimens (MNHN) and one specimen determined by Marco A. Bologna (MNHN). Z. fuscimembris shows the typical characters of Zonitoschema including body mainly yellow, eyes large and at least attaining medial margin of maxillae on underside of head, antennae elongate and filiform, antennomere II longer than half of III, and pronotum usually longer than wide. Fairmaire (1886) did not describe the details of the type specimens. One of us (Z. Pan) examined three specimens from MHNH listed above. Two are labeled as “ Yunnan, China ”, as the type locality. Therefore, we propose that they are the syntypes, and designate the lectotype and paralectotype.

We collected several specimens from Hebei and Inner Mongolia in recent years, and found that this species shows variation in elytral pattern, with four black spots in most specimens but only two spots or uniformly yellow-brown in a few cases. Reitter (1911) described Schroetteria subpolita from Northeast China (old name ���Mandschuria���) and distinguished it from M. polita mainly by the slightly bulging temples and the punctures on the body. However, according to our specimens, we think that these features correspond to intraspecific variation. Genus Zonitomorpha Péringuey, 1909 Remarks. There are three species from East Asia with similar morphology except for the coloration of antennae. Zonitomorpha cribripennis (Fairmaire, 1894) (from Bengale; Fig. 3): antennae are almost yellow, only slightly dark on the apical one or two antennomeres; Zonitomorpha davidis (Fairmaire, 1886) (from Beijing, China; Fig. 4): antennomeres VI–XI dark, I–V yellow; Zonitomorpha kimi (Kôno, 1936) comb. nov. (from Korea; see fig. 3 in Kôno 1936a): antennomeres I–III yellow, IV–XI dark. Zonitoschema miwai: Bologna 2008: 412. Distribution. China: Taiwan. Remarks. This species was placed in the genus Zonitoschema by Bologna (2008). However, according to the description and illustration published by K��no (1936a), this species belongs to the genus Zonitomorpha.
