Technical analysis, reliant on statistics and charting tools, is a predominant method for predicting stock prices. However, given the impact of the joint effect of stock price and trading volume, analyses focusing solely on single factors at isolated time points often yield partial or inaccurate results. This study introduces the application of Cycle Generative Adversarial Network (CycleGAN) alongside Deep Learning (DL) models, such as Residual Neural Network (ResNet) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), to assess the joint effects of stock price and trading volume on prediction accuracy. By incorporating these models into system engineering (SE), the research aims to decode short-term stock market trends and improve investment decisions through the integration of predicted stock prices with Bollinger Bands. Thereby, active learning (AL) is employed to avoid over-and under-fitting and find the hyperparameters for the overall system model. Focusing on TSMC's stock price prediction, the use of CycleGAN for analyzing 30-day stock data showcases the capability of ResNet and LSTM models in achieving high accuracy and F-1 scores for a five-day prediction period. Further analysis reveals that combining DL predictions with SE principles leads to more precise short-term forecasts. Additionally, integrating these predictions with Bollinger Bands demonstrates a decrease in trading frequency and a significant 30% increase in average Return on Investment (ROI). Institutionalized scientific research encourages free exploration while emphasizing the organization and coordination of research activities. Nevertheless, overcoming dispersion and repetition in the research process is an urgent problem to be addressed. Taking computer science as an example, to implement the problem-oriented concept, this study proposes constructing problemology that is symmetrical to methodology. Methodology is the important manifestation of scientific and technological achievements, and symmetrically, problemology is needed by the scientific research community. The problematique is a crucial component of problemology, representing the level of understanding of problems within the scientific research community. Through problematique as a medium, it connects, bridges, and aggregates various links among industry, education, academia, and users, improving the quality and efficiency of institutionalized scientific research. This paper reviews the revised foundational definitions of system and systems engineering in the recently published (2023) fifth edition of the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook. The new INCOSE definitions derive from an earlier INCOSE Fellows' Initiative on System and Systems Engineering Definitions that began in 2016 and finally reported in 2019. After introducing the concept of system and reviewing the new definition, the paper concludes that the concept, not rooted in a single science or exemplar domain, is so pervasive as be a meta‐concept that does not have a dominant scientific definition. It proposes further work towards a more scientific definition of an engineered or artificial system – the primary interest of INCOSE – at a lower level of abstraction. While the authors define systems engineering functionally as a process or approach, we see the essence of systems engineering as abstraction. Using the more accepted metaphysical distinction between the real, virtual, and abstract, we define the output of systems engineering as an abstract (simplified symbolic) representation or model that is the basis for defining the real; firstly, the virtual representation of something not (yet) existing physically but made to appear so and, finally, the physical. Accidents in engineered systems are usually generated by complex socio-technical factors. It is beneficial to investigate the increasing complexity and coupling of these factors from the perspective of system safety. Based on system and control theories, System-Theoretic Accident Model and Processes (STAMP) is a widely recognized approach for accident analysis. In this paper, we propose a STAMP-Game model to analyze accidents in oil and gas storage and transportation systems. Stakeholders in accident analysis by STAMP can be regarded as players of a game. Game theory can, thus, be adopted in accident analysis to depict the competition and cooperation between stakeholders. Subsequently, we established a game model to study the strategies of both supervisory and supervised entities. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed game model allows for identifying the effectiveness deficiency of the supervisory entity, and the safety and protection altitudes of the supervised entity. The STAMP-Game model can generate quantitative parameters for supporting the behavior and strategy selections of the supervisory and supervised entities. Developing new mobility services such as electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles services requires not only the interaction and interoperation of independent systems such as electric vehicles, electric infrastructure, or off‐board servers, but also the collaboration of independent business partners, namely, car manufacturers, energy providers, and service providers, developing, managing and operating these systems. Such services show both Product Service Systems and Systems of Systems characteristics and, as such, can be defined as Product‐Service Systems of Systems. While extensive literature exists on developing and managing PSS product and service elements and SoS constituent systems, little research explicitly focuses on PSSoS stakeholders. In particular, the analysis of PSSoS stakeholder business partnerships and involvement in PSSoS development. PSSoS development is seen as the development, operation, and management of constituent systems. In order to overcome the problems existed in the construction process of complex giant system of smart mine, the overall technical framework of smart mine construction was proposed, and a detailed description was made from the aspects of smart mine system model construction, underground space reconstruction and model dynamic update, machine vision measurement technology, radio frequency explosion-proof test method of gas environment, mine safety closed-loop control system, smart mine standard system, etc. The smart mine was divided into information sensing support layer, edge computing layer, cloud data center, multi-type network, intelligent mine production management and control platform, intelligent mine production system and intelligent mine operation and maintenance management system. The smart mine technology architecture based on the deep integration of multiple systems was built. Based on the knowledge map and information extraction of smart mine, a smart mine system model driven by data innovation, based on communication network and centered on data computing power was constructed. A 3D visual space model based on machine vision perception information and supplemented by other perception information was constructed, and a 3D vision and spatial reconstruction framework of mine underground scene was proposed to realize the reconstruction and dynamic update of the 3D space of underground mine. Based on machine vision technology, the identification algorithm of downhole equipment position and coal-rock interface was developed to realize the simultaneous aerial measurement of fully mechanized mining equipment group and coal-rock interface. The limitations and shortcomings of the current explosion-proof standards on the power of 5G base stations in the underground gas environment were discussed, and a special test device for radio-frequency electromagnetic energy explosion-proof was designed and developed, which provides a method for reference to improve the power threshold of underground 5G base stations. The technical framework of mine disaster closed-loop management and control system, which integrates comprehensive perception of disaster information, independent decision-making of prevention and control plan, and coordinated control of prevention and control equipment, was proposed to realize advanced prediction and early warning and coordinated prevention and control of underground disasters. The framework of intelligent coal mine standard system was constructed, the typical cases of intelligent construction of coal mine and metal mine in China were analyzed, and the development trend and suggestions of intelligent mine construction were put forward.

The mining industry is a sector aimed at the safe, efficient, green development, and clean, efficient, low-carbon utilization of mineral resources, serving as a foundational industry for economic and social development. In order to make mining development more economical, consider a more comprehensive range of factors, and optimize the design and development processes, in the late 1950s, operations research and computer technology were introduced into mining engineering, giving rise to a new discipline known as mining systems engineering. In its early stages, mining systems engineering primarily focused on the optimization of mining production processes and the use of computers in mine design, excavation planning, information processing, and application software development, with a predominant emphasis on open-pit mining as the research object. In recent years, research in mining systems engineering has closely integrated with big data, artificial intelligence, network technology, and has achieved fruitful results in areas such as mining information network construction, logistics systems, intelligent mining, equipment management, and safety management. This paper provides a detailed exposition of the origin and development process of mining systems engineering, with a chronological narrative based on international conferences on the application of operations research and computers in mining (APCOM), particularly the fifteen national conferences on mining systems engineering that have taken place. It objectively summarizes the developmental process and evolution of research content in mining systems engineering. Using the CNKI database as the data foundation, current research employs cluster analysis to study the publication volume, research objects, and their changes in mining systems engineering over the past 20 years. The future development of mining systems engineering should focus on the integration of systems science thinking with modern mining technology, establishing scientific systems and their boundaries, such as scientific mining systems, mine lifecycle systems, intelligent mine systems, and other eight major systems. The development of mining systems engineering will increasingly emphasize innovation and application in aspects such as digitization, intelligence, sustainable development, informatization, and automation, while continually expanding its application areas to achieve optimized, efficient, green, and low-carbon mining development.

Military program management and system engineering re quire the expression of costs and delay trade‐off with respect to system architecture. If architecture frameworks (AF) such as NATO (NAF) were designed to fill this common need, their current state is essentially descriptive. As it turns out, building defense systems architectures using those frameworks in a properly anticipated cost/delay budget envelope would require to have all system engineering already solved, because the architecture frameworks are designed to provide an explicit representation of the operational domain that can be used in analysis, for articulation of issues and requirements, as support to planning, and as a means of solution design and validation, among other things. Thus Quality‐Resource‐Time optimality in a regularly evolving environment cannot be represented in acceptable delay without automated optimization assistance. Our contribution in this article explores coupling architecture framework with operation research (OR) models to enable computer assisted design and evaluation of heterogeneous views in NATO Architecture Framework (NAF). Our illustrative example is a Linear Programming based bridge between program management and system engineering to anticipate optimal trade‐offs. This study reviews tools and approaches developed at universities and institutes for conceptual and preliminary aircraft design. Problem, solution, and behavioral space covered by each tool are discussed and a categorization for the methods underlying the different disciplinary tools is proposed. Special attention is given to the search method, if any, embedded in or supported by each tool to explore the proliferation of Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) in aircraft design tools. The study shows that many tools are available but most are proprietary and none covers all the aspects of the conceptual and preliminary design process. MDO is only a small element in most of the tools. The review can be used for the formulation of requirements and necessities for future aircraft design tools.

The natural, economic, and social attributes of mineral resources determine that the security of mineral resources involves numerous resource types, large spatial distribution, ultra-long industrial chains, huge industrial scale, spatial and temporal configurations, complex factors, and multiple levels; it is a complex and giant system with a large scale, multiple levels, and complex influencing factors. How to make this system operate efficiently and serve economic and social development is a complex scientific issue. This study puts forward a concept of giant system for mineral resource security by introducing the research idea of system science, depicts the structure and composition of the giant system, and reveals the driving mechanism of the giant system by natural resource, economic, social, and other factors. On this basis, a new research direction of system engineering of mineral resource security is established, which involves building a theoretical knowledge model for mineral resource security guarantee using a system thinking, constructing a simulation experiment system based on a big data platform, and actively promoting government decision-making and feedback. Furthermore, a major strategic idea of establishing an overall design department for mineral resource security is proposed. The research results have been applied to and effectively supported national resource security guarantee in China.

The purpose of the article is to consider the concept of hybridization economics, what forms it takes, how the growth of hybridization rates will affect business processes using examples of complex work with intellectually capacious processes and products. After COVID-19, the main characteristic of the modern economy is hybridization. In theory, it is a combination of several subjects, processes, and technologies. The author identifies several stages of hybridization. The first is the use of circuitry to control economic processes. At this stage, a person adapts to the technique. The second stage is the appearance of human dimension. Equipment and technical products in their parameters should be commensurate with the person, convenient for him to use. In contrast to the first stage, a person subordinates technology and digital systems using them to strengthen himself. Hybrid offices are used in the economy. The next stage is management and interaction with intellectually capacious objects. Flexibility is often cited as a desirable key characteristic of modern production systems. In ultra-flexible production, machinery and layouts are in a constant state of adaptation to accommodate changing orders, varying products, or evolving conditions. Cyber-physical integration has been proposed as a potential approach to increasing system flexibility with Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) and Digital Twins (DT) as central concepts. While numerous architectures, frameworks and approaches have been proposed for CPPS and DT development, further research is motivated regarding the development of a requirement-based framework that links together the high-level system property of flexibility and lower-level system components, enabling the analysis, prescription and comparison of systems. Such a framework could enable manufacturers to continuously evaluate and improve manufacturing systems' flexibility as well as make informed design decisions. Ultimately enhancing system flexibility and responsiveness to changing production conditions. This study aims to initiate the development and formulation of such a requirements-based framework linking flexibility and lower-level system components. Additionally, it seeks to introduce the concept of a "cyber-physical continuum," which the study aims to define as a potential quantifiable indicator reflecting flexibility within production systems. This is achieved by leveraging prior CPPS research based on high-level system requirements. These requirements were expanded by branching each requirement into lower-level components creating a more granular scope and providing a finer lens for analysis and assessment. The framework was then applied to assess a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing scenario. Application of the preliminary framework in the case study indicates its potential utility in providing a useful view of the cyber-physical content of a system. Moreover, it serves as a valuable guide for pinpointing areas for improvement and development. By developing a framework that seamlessly links high-level flexibility requirements with detailed implementation requirements, systems can be comprehensively evaluated, methodically prescribed, and effectively compared. In Indonesia, the coffee agroindustry is making a significant economic contribution, with some environmental issues, including water pollution, eutrophication, and greenhouse gas emissions. This agroindustry generates vast by-products, offering a potential opportunity for material and energy recovery through eco-industrial parks. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze coffee waste management through valorization technology and the potential development of a coffee-based eco-industrial park. A system engineering approach was employed using a case study of the coffee agroindustry in Jember Regency, Indonesia. The result showed suboptimal utilization of technological valorization, as only 15% - 20% of the total solid waste was effectively valorized, resulting in low economic added-value of the products produced. This condition was caused by several factors, such as insufficient knowledge about valorization technology, inadequate availability of technological equipment, and the absence of a well-established market share of added-value products from coffee waste. Furthermore, the coffee-based eco-industrial park (EIP) design identified three main functionalities and its environmental operating systems. The coffee-based EIP could be potentially improved through public-private partnerships and broadening the scope of valorized coffee waste, including spent coffee grounds and wastewater. High-quality farmers are an important human capital to promote the development of modern agriculture. To achieve rural revitalization, we must accelerate the cultivation of high-quality farmers who adapt to the needs of the times and new trend of agricultural and rural development. Therefore, it is of practical significance and theoretical value to summarize the general laws of cultivating high-quality farmers. This paper combed the main influencing factors of the current cultivation of high-quality farmers and the main characteristics of the cultivation mode of high-quality farmers. From the perspective of system engineering, the experience and practice of cultivating high-quality farmers in Suzhou were analyzed from the perspective of the key elements of cultivating high-quality farmers, including the cultivation concept, cultivation subject, cultivation object, cultivation goal, cultivation approach, cultivation mode and cultivation system. Enterprise system engineering is a new practice that has emerged over the last few decades, promising to achieve better enterprises by improving cross‐enterprise processes. However, enterprises have a unique property as a system of unsynchronized arrays of systems. This property can lead to severe problems and anomalies, such as cross‐enterprise failures. These issues become even more drastic in supporting cross‐enterprises processes like transportation. The transportation arena is a complex system in itself. It comprises a variety of enterprises and systems supported by different technologies and vendors. Moreover, it involves governmental, municipal, and private stakeholders. Therefore, planning and designing a coordinated and integrated architecture is difficult. A new enterprise system engineering framework called EPIC addresses these issues by enabling better coordination of unsynchronized arrays of systems across enterprises. This research explores the application of an architectural framework to the transportation arena, where existing methods have not adequately addressed its unique properties. This study examines the organizational transformation of digital design platforms (DDPs) to present the considerations of DDPs' value propositions, service offering, and sustainable business models. When we face large, complex, systemic transformational challenges, especially during the pandemic, we must make meaningful changes to a DDP to rise to these social-technological challenges internally and externally to generate positive social impacts and create value for design individuals and communities. Due to COVID-19, people's daily lives, interactions, and work experiences, and communication patterns dramatically changed, which significantly influenced organizations across scales and industries. DDPs have also been hit by the social-technological impact of COVID-19. We conducted seven semi-structured expert interviews and demonstrated ten case studies across three categories: design competitions, design professional associations, and design companies about DDP transformation associated with COVID-19 through the lens of system engineering. The goal is to analyze organizational change and its impacts on a DDP's service offering, business model, and organizational culture, in an effort to better prepare new capabilities in the era of social-technological transformation. We identified four key takeaways: (1) craft new partnership connections; (2) identify criteria for transformation; (3) create and extend participants' engagement level, and (4) leverage collective talents and sources. Under the present-day conditions, the preservation of competences of Ukrainian aircraft construction enterprises will be determined by the possibility of enterprises attracting to participation in international cooperation programs and projects. But this is possible only on the condition of prior harmonization of the product development methodology adopted in Ukrainian aircraft construction to that used in the international aircraft construction projects. Purose. The main goal of this article is to determine the ability and ways of adapting the corporate model of life cycle of aircraft engineering projects by Ukrainian aircraft construction enterprises to modern global aircraft construction practices. Implementation methodology. The research methodology predicted the identification of the main modern trends in the field of system engineering for the creation of a science-intensive product, as well as the analysis of concepts of presenting the life cycle of complex technical systems in international regulatory documents, industry regulations, guidelines and other information sources. Criteria for perspective of using the identified informational and normative sources as close analogues for the development of one's own corporate model of life cycle of an aircraft construction product were identified. On the basis of the criterion analysis of researched concepts of the life cycle of complex technical systems representing, the requirements were formed, which formed the basis of the concept of one's own corporate model of life cycle of the aircraft construction product. The results. The result of conducted research was the proposed concept of a corporate model of the life cycle of an aircraft construction product manufactured in Ukraine, which takes into account the international experience and best practices of leading aircraft construction companies, including focusing on the experience accumulated by domestic aircraft manufacturers. Conclusions. According to the results of analysis of advanced world practices in the field of creating a science-intensive product, an own corporate model of the life cycle of an aircraft product manufactured in Ukraine was proposed. In the future, on the basis of this model, a system for creating an aircraft product can be built and developed, which will be harmonized with existing world practices and will allow the domestic aircraft construction enterprises to fight for participation in international programs and projects.

System engineering (SE) methods and principles are nowadays widely adopted in the product development processes, especially in the industrial sector, where saving production time and costs are primary goals. This work describes an application of a particular SE methodology, the V-model-based design, in which the system development lifecycle is divided on the basis of a graphical V-shaped scheme, called V-model. Following this approach, a new concept of charging arm for Robotic Train Inspection Monorail (TIM) of Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) has been developed. The current charging arm version is affected by several issues and limits that have led to the necessity of a new solution. Starting from the first stages of functional requirements (FRs) definition and decomposition (left side of the "V"), a new concept has been implemented, in order to be tested for its verification and validation (right side of the "V"). As part of the principles of SE, the process has been based on virtual models of the product and on virtual simulations of its operation, rather than on the realization of time-consuming and expensive physical models and tests, even if a final physical prototype has also been built and some physical operative tests have also been carried out on it. These tests have showed that the new product appears to fulfill each one of its FRs and overcome the limits imposed by the previous version. Despite the growing number of educational CubeSat projects, there is a lack of available literature related to analysis of good practices and lessons learned associated with learning environment of such university student projects, their internal organisational, and management issues. Difficulties arise when international standards, procedures and practices from professional satellite development projects must be adopted by student teams to their local projects. This paper discusses educational, organisational, and human factors that contribute to the success of the master student space projects at Luleå University of Technology, Kiruna Space Campus. The authors focus on project structure, management, working, and learning environment of the ongoing student CubeSat project APTAS and analyse problems and difficulties encountered in relation to the other actual student space projects at LTU. The result of quantitative and qualitative analysis of questionnaires, interviews, reflections and observations of the national and international master students is presented, and provides practical advice for university student teams and their supervisors. Abstract Advanced knowledge engineering (KE), represented by knowledge graph (KG), drives the development of various fields and engineering technologies and provides various knowledge fusion and knowledge empowerment interfaces. At the same time, advanced system engineering (SE) takes model-based system engineering (MBSE) as the core to realize formal modeling and process analysis of the whole system. The two complement each other and are the key technologies for the transition from 2.0 to 3.0 in the era of artificial intelligence and the transition from perceptual intelligence to cognitive intelligence. This survey summarizes an advanced information fusion system, from model-driven to knowledge-enabled. Firstly, the concept, representative methods, key technologies and application fields of model-driven system engineering are introduced. Then, it introduces the concept of knowledge-driven knowledge engineering, summarizes the architecture and construction methods of advanced knowledge engineering and summarizes the application fields. Finally, the combination of advanced information fusion systems, development opportunities and challenges are discussed.

This study aimed to develop and evaluate the performance of a service system platform based on the Internet of Things (IoT) for monitoring nutritional deficiencies in plants and providing fertilizer recommendations. There are two distinct differences between this work and previous ones; namely, this service system platform has been developed based on IoT using a system engineering approach and its performance has been evaluated using dependability. We have successfully developed and integrated a service system platform and chlorophyll meter that is based on IoT. We have also successfully tested the performance of the service system platform using the JMeter software. The dependability value measured from the five tested variables (reliability, availability, integrity, maintainability, and safety) showed a value of 0.97 which represents a very good level of system confidence in not failing to deliver services to users under normal operational conditions. From a future perspective, this platform can be used as an alternative service to monitor nutrient deficiencies in plants and provide fertilization recommendations to increase yields, reduce fertilizer costs, and prevent the use of excessive fertilizers, which can cause environmental pollution.

Addressing this challenge calls for designing or redesigning of healthcare work system. Work system design which is usually associated with productivity in manufacturing offers a wide spectrum of applicability in addressing this challenge of healthcare system. Despite the availability of primary studies on work system design in healthcare, there are sparse published reviews in specific contexts. This scoping review explores the existing evidence to understand the state of the art of work system design in healthcare. Methods: The scoping review adopts the methodology of Joanna Briggs Institute for scoping review which is based on the methodological framework of Arksey and O’Malley. The search will be done on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science for the identification of eligible studies. A grey literature search will also be performed. A two-phase screening and extraction of data will be done by two independent reviewers. Data extraction will be done on a pre-piloted data extraction form. The findings will be presented in tables, figures, and a narrative summary. The scoping review will highlight the state of the art, gaps in knowledge and provide directions for future research. Ethics and dissemination: This is a scoping review of primary studies and therefore ethical approval is not required. The report of the findings will be presented in line with the PRISMA reporting guidelines for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR). The results will be submitted to a peer-reviewed scientific journal for publication and presented at relevant conferences.

Container terminals are complex systems where containerized cargo undergoes a set of processing and handling operations to be delivered to their outgoing modes. A pool of decision support methods and simulation models has been developed to assist planners and managers in making decisions about daily operations. Nevertheless, most are designed for a particular terminal and not generic types. Indeed, a generic model serves as a conceptual factory to create specific models which greatly reduces the time and efforts of development; however, building such a model is no mean feat. To this aim, the paper on hand discusses the complexity of applying genericity, flexibility, and modularity in system modeling and proposes a generic architecture to build modular and flexible simulation models for container terminals. This architecture is split into a set of smaller, manageable, well-connected, and generic modules that facilitate the creation of highly parametrized specific models. An illustrative example of the architecture usage is presented in a case study, the new container terminal of Stockholm, and the resulting models were validated by subject matter experts. Finally, to prove its efficiency, a numerical study fed with real data is conducted to investigate the handling capacity of the studied system under different handling and flow scenarios. The obtained results show that the terminal handling capacity can be increased by around 50% if three to four more straddle carriers are added to the existing fleet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lunar habitat design is a complex endeavor characterized by complicated task-composition, numerous internal iterations, and intense task-coupling. The design process of assembled building in terrestrial construction and the system composition of lunar habitats have been constructed. However, there is insufficient experience to fully understand lunar habitat design missions and likewise there is insufficient coordination between architects and various disciplines. The task flow for sequencing optimization can be determined using a design structure matrix (DSM), which is widely used in engineering. The DSM can reveal necessary interfaces within the lunar habitat system as per relevant interface variables and processes. By decomposing the lunar habitat design process, an initial activity-based DSM is established in the present study. Informational interactions between each design task and its respective intensity are statistically investigated to clarify them across the four dimensions of energy, space, materials, and information. A sequencing algorithm is applied to optimize the design process. Finally, 20 design tasks of lunar habitat design are clarified among four phases: Pre-planning, spatial design, environmental design, and optimization. Related disciplines should coordinate in the design process according to the optimization results, and use the optimized task coupling relationship to build the requirement model and design model in an orderly manner to improve the design efficiency. Unconventional oil and gas resources have become the most important and realistic field for increasing China’s domestic oil and gas reserves and production. At present, the production scale does not match the massive amount of resources and the rapid growth of proven geological reserves. The challenges of technology, cost, management, and methodology restrict large-scale and economic development. Based on successful practices, a “one engine with six gears” system engineering methodology is put forward, which includes life-cycle management, overall synergy, interdisciplinary cross-service integration, market-oriented operation, socialized support, digitalized management, and low-carbon and green development. The methodology has been proved to be effective in multiple unconventional oil and gas national demonstration areas, including the Jimusar continental shale oil demonstration area. Disruptive views are introduced—namely, that unconventional oil and gas do not necessarily yield a low return, nor do they necessarily have a low recovery factor. A determination to achieve economic benefit must be a pervasive underlying goal for managers and experts. Return and recovery factors, as primary focuses, must be adhered to during China’s development of unconventional oil and gas. The required methodology transformation includes a revolution in management systems to significantly decrease cost and increase production, resulting in technological innovation.
