- Abstract
Users at the young adult age belongs to one of the target groups, which has great potential for public libraries. Attendance of young adults, i. e. people aged approximately between 25 and 35 years, significantly decreases in Czech public libraries in connection with the beginnig of economical activity (or graduation). With regard to the information needs of each target group is necessary to develop a specific range of services that will attract existing and potential users. This paper presents selected examples of good practice (cases for inspiration from Danish and Swedish libraries) which can be considered as inspirational in work with young adults. Nowadays the Arctic becomes a new arena for political and economic interrelation of different states in their will to gain future benefits, which the region can bring. The aim of the thesis is to investigate the Arctic as an area of cooperation and (or) conflict between Russia and three EU states: Denmark, Finland and Sweden as well as the EU itself. This research paper looks on the problem from the perspective of rational- choice theory of international relations, which allows comparing the Arctic strategies of observed actors and their interests in the region. Despite existence of the Arctic Council as a platform for negotiations and multilateral agreements, as well as common will to solve the disputes there is still place for uncertainties in actor' view on the development of the Arctic. For this reason the question of the Arctic region is urgent for all above mentioned countries including the EU, which seeks to take its place in the debate.

In the second half of the twentieth century Norway repeatedly made efforts to become a member of the European Communities, which were later incorporated into the newly created European Union. Two referendums were held - in 1972 and 1994 and in both of them Norwegian citizens decided that Norway will not become a member of the EC/EU. Outcomes of the referendums were narrow, though. Interesting fact is, that referendums in the neighbor states - Denmark (1972) and Sweden (1994) ended up in favor of the European Communities/ the European Union. Bachelor thesis called "Norwegian Accession Process to the EC/EU Compared with Denmark and Sweden" concentrates on reasons of the different outcome of referendums in Norway compared to Denmark and Sweden. These Scandinavian countries have many similar characteristics, therefore was expected similar outcome. In my opinion there are three main reasons for the different results of the referendums. Firstly, there are Norwegian specifics, such as widely popular fishing and protection of agriculture. Second are economic reasons that are linked to big profits from crude oil and natural gas export. Last reason is strong national pride and fear of losing the decision making in key subjects. In the Norwegian society is still existing trauma connected with history and it is closely...

Comparison of development of selected demographic characteristics in the Nordic countries since 1990 Abstract The objective of this study is to compare the development of selected demographic characteristics in the Nordic countries since 1990. In this paper the Nordic countries are defined as a five state formations in Northern Europe: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The analysis shows that the demographic development of Nordic countries is not the same and each state has its own specifics. As expected, the most distinct development had Iceland, which thanks to higher fertility rate had younger age structure. Different development had also Finland, which was aging the most and had a lower life expectancy at birth for men. Surprisingly low mortality rates were observed in Denmark, in particular for women. The curve of total fertility rate in Sweden, which was quite different from the rest of the Nordic countries, was following its rollercoaster pattern also in the period 1990-2011. The uniqueness in demographic behaviour of the Nordic countries was confirmed by the results of cluster analysis. In 1990 and 2011, these five states were in one cluster mainly due to the high percentage of live births outside marriage and in 2011 also due to higher total fertility rate. Because these states were...

Bachelor thesis "The Activity of Protest Movements in 1956-1977 in Denmark and Sweden" deals with the activities of social movements that originated in the territory of Denmark and Sweden in connection with the Western wave of protest activism and the overall radicalization of youth in the 1960s and the 1970s. It was especially a movement against nuclear weapons and the war in Vietnam and the student revolt of 1968. The paper analyzes the circumstances, the protest actions and subsequent consequences of activity of these movements in both countries and its objective is a complex comparison of the Danish and the Swedish cases. This comparison subsequently highlights the differences between the protest movements of Denmark and Sweden in various aspects, which are described in the text. One of them is the development of left-wing movement after 1956 and the emergence of new intellectual currents that influenced the direction of the protest movements. Other parts are devoted to the course and the extent of demonstrations of particular movements and their content, goals and expressions, for example through alternative culture. The Nordic welfare state is usually referred to as the most successful model of its kind; this social system based on the principle of universalism is a common ideal for other European states. The goal of the diploma thesis The Nordic Welfare State Model is to introduce this social model, both from a theoretical and practical point of view. The description of theoretic models as well as the history of European welfare states are vital in order to understand the functioning of social systems; however the main purpose of this paper is to characterize the Nordic welfare state model through the examples of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden and to capture the main commonalities and disparities in comparison with the rest of Europe. Based on up-to-date analyses of mainly Scandinavian researchers as well as reports of international organizations this paper offers an extensive analysis of the Nordic Welfare State Model.

It explains the definition of this term, outlines general causes of the rise of this form, characterizes existing models of the social policy with focus on the Nordic type, presents some of the opinions of the critics and also deals with the crisis of this concept. The second chapter focuses on the methodology used by the World Economic Forum. The third part tries to find a connection between the development of the competitiveness and the reduction of the welfare state in Denmark, Finland and Sweden. The procedure is based on the analysis of the development of the competitiveness of these countries according to the Global Competitiveness Reports and on the analysis of the indicators, which help to estimate the development of the typical attributes of the Nordic model of the welfare state.

Diploma thesis "Nordic countries and their support of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on their way to European structures" deals with foreign policies of Denmark, Sweden and Finland towards three Baltic countries in the 1990s. The paper is focused on Danish, Swedish and Finnish bilateral support of three Baltic countries on their way to European structures, particularly to the EU. The thesis strives to explain a rationale and motives which were behind decisions of Nordic countries to help Baltic countries in the 1990s. Although the thesis is primarily focused on a development in the 1990s, a short part is also devoted to a historical development of the relations between Nordic and Baltic countries. This historical excursion helps to identify changes of Nordic foreign policies (Baltic policies) which occurred in the 1990s. The main proposition of this thesis is a statement that though there were several motives behind decisions of Nordic states to help Baltic countries, the main factor which caused high involvement of Denmark, Sweden and Finland in the Baltic Sea area were security related factors. The thesis also offers a summary of some motives which were behind high involvement of Nordic countries in the region and provides some similarities and differences in Baltic policies of Denmark, Sweden and...
