Objects: The aim of the study is the translation, culturally adaptation and validation of the Italian version of Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with Assistive Technology 2.0 (QUEST-IT 2.0) in an Italian population with users of mobility assistive device, through a cross sectional study., Materials and Methods: To evaluate internal consistency and test-retest reliability, Cronbach's? and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) were respectively calculated. The WheelCon-M is administered together, and Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated for validity., Results: The scale was submitted to 130. The mean QUEST-IT 2.0 score in this study was 37.39 ± 9.35. Cronbach's? was 0.740 ( p  < 0.01) and ICC was 0.853 and >0.994 in each domain. The correlation with WheelCon-M short form a was 0.30 ( p  < 0.05)., Conclusions: the QUEST-IT 2.0 showed out good consistent results for reliability and validity. This scale will be very useful for doctors, researchers and occupational therapist in the valuation and management of mobility assistive device.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe Italian version of the QUEST 2.0 (QUEST-IT 2.0) in now available and health professionals can use it with more confidence.The QUEST-IT 2.0 is a valid and reliable assessment tool when used with a sample of assistive mobility device users.

Purpose: This study is aimed at validating the A-ONE scale in an Italian population with Central Nervous System (CNS) dysfunction. Material and Methods . Between May and November 2018, people aged between 60 and 90 with CNS dysfunction were recruited in a hospital in Rome, Italy. Patients were observed and evaluated during the activities of daily living. Internal consistency and reliability were evaluated with Cronbach's coefficient alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient, respectively. As measured with Pearson's correlation coefficient, the validity was examined comparing results of the A-ONE with the Barthel index. Responsiveness was evaluated 30 days after the first administration., Results: A total of 70 people having a diagnosis of neurological disorders were evaluated. The internal consistency showed Cronbach's coefficient alpha ranging from 0.634 to 0.959. The measurement of reliability varied from 0.984 to 0.997 for intrarater and from 0.979 to 0.998 for interrater. Pearson's correlation coefficient between the A-ONE and the Barthel index and the responsiveness showed statistically significant values ( p < 0.01)., Conclusions: The present study provides preliminary evidence of reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the A-ONE when using elderly people with CNS dysfunction., Competing Interests: All authors declare no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2021 Margherita Cerone et al.)

Study Design: Psychometric study., Objective: The aim of the study was to translate and culturally adapt the MSISQ-15 into Italian and to administer it to individuals with a spinal cord injury (SCI)., Setting: Rome's Wheelchair Rugby Team and three spinal units in Italy., Methods: Translation and validation of the MSISQ-15 were performed based on international guidelines. The questionnaire, which was in a paper and online format, was administered with the Short Form-12 Health Survey (SF-12) and the Spinal Cord Independence Measure Self-Report., Results: Sixty-five participants were recruited. Internal consistency coefficient of MSISQ-15 scale, assessed by Cronbach's alpha, was 0.75. Test-retest reliability interclass correlations was, for example, 0.86. The construct validity was calculated and showed statistically significant results in relation to the mental health status investigated with the SF-12., Conclusions: The MSISQ-15 is a valid, reliable, and useful questionnaire for investigating how often the symptoms of an SCI interfere with a person's satisfaction or sexual activity.

Background: The Berg Balance Scale is widely used to measure balance ability in clinical practice. Recently, the original version was redefined from 14 into 12 items. Its psychometric properties were investigated for different populations. However, for Parkinson disease the new version has not been validated yet., Objective: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate psychometric properties of the 12-item Berg Balance Scale (BBS-12) in a population with Parkinson disease., Methods: Internal consistency was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha coefficient, whereas reliability was assessed with the intraclass correlation coefficient. For validity analysis, the Pearson correlation coefficient of the BBS-12 was evaluated with the Tinetti Scale and the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly., Results: The BBS-12 was applied to 50 individuals with a mean age of 65.6 years (SD 11.8). The internal consistency showed a good value (Cronbach's alpha 0.886) and reproducibility reveled very high performances for both inter-rater and intra-rater reliabilities (ICC 0.987 and 0.986, respectively). The validity study demonstrated good linear correlation with the Tinetti Scale (p<0.01) and with the Sport and Home Subscales of the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (p<0.01)., Conclusions: The present findings revealed the BBS-12 as a reliable and valid assessment tool to measure balance ability in Parkinson disease. Italian health professionals can now use it with more confidence.

Purpose: This study aimed to create a new quantitative and qualitative Mealtime Assessment Tool (MAT) to be administered by the not institutional caregiver to explore the dysphagic patient's mealtime behavior., Methods: The development and validation process consisted of three steps: firstly, identification of items for the questionnaire, then pilot testing phase of the first version of the instrument and finally a psychometric evaluation in which the test was administered to the target population (adult inpatients with diagnosed and undiagnosed oropharyngeal dysphagia)., Results: A factorial analysis explained 51% of the variance and grouped the 12 items of the scale into three categories that defined: a) structural setting and compliance at mealtime, b) behavioral attitude at mealtime, c) structural setting as a function of possible distractibility. The concurrent validity using the Dysphagia Outcome Severity Scale and Three Oz Water Swallow Test, as the gold standard, was r =0.01. Cronbach's alpha was 0.709. Stability test-retest reliability had ICC values of 0.980 p=0.01. The ROC curve using as state variable the De Pippo test as a dichotomius variable showed the under-curve area as 0.830 (95% CI, 0.763 to 0.897)., Conclusions: The validation process led to the conclusion that the MAT is a valid, reliable and stable scale for caregivers.

The aims of this study were to translate and culturally adapt the Volitional Questionnaire (VQ) into Italian and to evaluate its psychometric properties in an Italian population of patients with psychiatric disorders. The translation process from English into Italian was carried out in agreement with the authors of the original scale. The study was carried out in three psychiatric facilities, with 33 patients with psychiatric diagnoses, who were older than 18 years, and two raters (6 total) for each facility in Rome, Italy. The psychometric properties were assessed via its internal consistency, test-retest and inter-rater reliability and construct validity through comparisons with the Barthel Index, Short Form-12, Beck Depression Inventory-II and Camberwell Assessment of Need (CAN). Results showed internal consistency, using Cronbach's alpha, was significant at 0.92. In the test-retest reliability evaluation, the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.97 and the interclass correlation coefficient was 0.99. The Spearman correlation showed significant results in the comparison with the CAN (r = -0.45, p < 0.05). These results suggest that the IT-VQ may be a valid, standardized and reliable evaluation tool that can be used to detect volitional performance improvements in a population of Italian psychiatric patients.

Importance: Having a test to evaluate hand function is fundamental to occupational therapy practice., Objective: To assess the psychometric properties of the Italian version of the Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT)., Design: Cross-sectional study., Setting: Three health care institutions in Rome, Italy., Participants: 136 people with injuries, burns, or neurological diseases of the hand., Intervention: No intervention was provided., Outcomes and Measures: We administered the JTHFT, an assessment of fine motor skills during performance of activities of daily living, and compared results with dynamometer readings., Results: The mean ± standard deviation total time required to perform all subtests was 89.47 ± 67.98 s for the dominant hand (DH) and 167.11 ± 257.58 s for the nondominant hand (NDH). Reliability procedures were applied to data from 51 participants; mean intrarater intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was .814 for the DH and .981 for the NDH, and mean interrater ICC was .818 for the DH and .821 for the NDH. Pearson's correlation coefficients were significant., Conclusion and Relevance: Results support the use of the Italian version of the JTHFT as a measure of functional dexterity in people with upper limb disorders., What This Article Adds: The JTHFT is a valid and reliable assessment tool for nonspecific hand diseases. Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the 39-item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39) to the Italian culture was performed by Oxford University Innovation in 2008, but this version has never been validated. Therefore, we performed the process of validation of the Italian version of the PDQ-39 (PDQ-39-IT) following the "Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Status Measurement Instruments" checklist. The translated PDQ-39-IT was tested with 104 patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD) who were recruited between June and October 2017. The mean age of the participants was 65.7 ± 10.2 years, and the mean duration of symptoms was 7.4 ± 5.3 years. The internal consistency of the PDQ-39-IT was assessed by Cronbach's alpha and ranged from 0.69 to 0.92. In an assessment of test-retest reliability in 35 of the 104 patients, the infraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) ranged from 0.85 to 0.96 for the various subitems of the PDQ-39-IT (all p < 0.01). Spearman's rank correlation coefficient for the validity of the PDQ-39-IT and the Italian version of the 36-Item Short Form (SF-36) was - 0.50 (p < 0.01). The results show that the PDQ-39-IT is a reliable and valid tool to assess the impact of PD on functioning and well-being. Thus, the PDQ-39-IT can be used in clinical and research practice to assess this construct and to evaluate the overall effect of different treatments in Italian PD patients.

Objective: We developed an Italian version of the Wheelchair Use Confidence Scale for Manual Users-Short Form (WheelCon-M-I-short form) and examined its reliability and validity., Methods: The original scale was translated from English to Italian using the "Translation and Cultural Adaptation of Patient Reported Outcomes Measures-Principles of Good Practice" guidelines. The WheelCon-M-I-short form was administered to experienced manual wheelchair users who had a variety of diagnoses. Its internal consistency and test-retest reliability were examined. Its concurrent validity was evaluated using Pearson correlation coefficients with the Italian version of the Wheelchair Outcome Measure (WhOM-I) and the Italian version of the Barthel index (BI)., Results: The WheelCon-M-I-short form was administered to 31 subjects. The mean ± SD of the WheelCon-M-I-short form score was 7.5 ± 1.9. All WheelCon-M-I-short form items were either identical or similar in meaning to the WheelCon-M-short form items. Cronbach's α for the WheelCon-M-I-short form was 0.95 (p < 0.01), and the test-retest reliability (ICC) was 0.978 (p < 0.01). The Pearson correlation coefficient of the WheelCon-M-I-short form scores with the WhOM-I scores was 0.7618 (p < 0.01). The Pearson correlation coefficient of the WheelCon-M-I-short form scores with the Italian BI scores was 0.638 (p < 0.01)., Conclusions: The WheelCon-M-I-short form was found to be reliable and a valid outcome measure for assessing manual wheelchair confidence in the Italian population. Implication for Rehabilitation The WheelCon-M-I-short form is a valid outcome measure available for assessing wheelchair confidence, according to Bandura's social cognitive theory, self-efficacy is a better predictor of future behavior than skill itself. Translation of the WheelCon-M-short form into the WheelCon-M-I-short form provides a new tool for Italian professionals. Clinicians now have a method to measure this invisible barrier to wheelchair use, and they will be able to make informed decisions when prescribing the use of manual wheelchairs and when training clients in their use. The WheelCon-M-I-short form also provides researchers with a tool in an important and relevant area of study for future research.
