Survey studies are valuable tools that can quickly and cost-effectively collect data from diverse populations across different cultures and locations. When conducted across multiple countries, careful translation and cross-cultural adaptation are necessary to maintain the validity and reliability of the findings. This point is particularly important for patient-facing questionnaires, especially in fields like psychology and sexual medicine. Translation to other languages also helps the researchers reach a more diverse and broader sample, which enables the generalizability of the findings/conclusions. An accurate translation would ensure higher response rates. Careful and rigorous selection of translators, following a translation guideline, ensuring sufficient time for the translation process, using a checklist, and quality assessment following translation can increase the accuracy of the translation. At each step, the specific field of the questionnaire should be taken in consideration. Background: Depression and anxiety are significant health burdens that greatly impact the quality of life of refugees and migrants. In this study, we have translated and culturally adapted the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Screener (GAD-7) into Kinyarwanda and performed a validation study in a United States (US) primary care setting., Methods: A committee of seven experts including psychiatric and family medicine providers, health researchers, and trained medical interpreters translated and culturally adapted the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and incorporated feedback from cognitive interviews with bilingual participants. The translated instruments were then tested in a cross-sectional validation study. Analyses include internal consistency, discriminant validity, principal component analyses, and confirmatory factor analyses., Results: Analyses of 119 responses indicated overall good internal consistency with Cronbach's α of 0.85 (PHQ-9) and 0.92 (GAD-7). Both scales showed acceptable factor loadings between 0.44 and 0.90 in the principal component analyses and showed strong correlations with health-related quality of life and depression/anxiety symptoms measured with visual analog scales. Significantly higher scores for PHQ-9 and GAD-7 were shown among participants with known psychiatric conditions., Discussion: PHQ-9 and GAD-7 demonstrated commendable applicability for Kinyarwanda-speaking patients in primary healthcare settings in the US. Our instruments can already be used in primary care settings and thus help to mitigate health disparities. Objective: To cross-culturally adapt the Pediatric Asthma Therapy Assessment Questionnaire (ATAQ) into Brazilian Portuguese and analyze its measurement properties., Methods: This exploratory methodological study included eight experts and 30 caregivers in the translation and cross-cultural adaptation steps. Thereafter, 118 caregivers of pediatric patients with asthma aged between 5 and 17 years were involved in the analysis of measurement properties. We analyzed the content, structural (exploratory and confirmatory factorial), construct (convergent and discriminant), and known-groups validities; floor and ceiling effects; and determined the cut-off point (receiver operator characteristic curve) to identify pediatric patients with uncontrolled asthma. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) analyzed test-retest reliability with 54 caregivers, whereas Cronbach's α and composite reliability verified the internal consistency of the items., Results: The committee of experts and caregivers found the instructions and response options relevant, understandable, and clear (K > 0.75). During the cross-cultural adaptation, three items (2, 4, and 12) were slightly modified by including terms to facilitate understanding. A two-factor structure (asthma control and patient-provider communication) was identified. Internal consistency (α > .67; composite reliability > 0.73) and test-retest reliability (ICC > 0.80) were acceptable. For construct and know-groups validities, 85.71% of the hypothesis were confirmed. A cut-off point of >3 for the control domain was considered adequate to identify pediatric patients with uncontrolled asthma (sensitivity: 86.21%; specificity: 80.90%)., Conclusion: The Pediatric ATAQ was adequately adapted for Brazilian pediatric patients with asthma and produced valid and reliable measures for assessing asthma control. Introduction and Hypotheses: The International Continence Society recommends the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Bladder Diary (ICIQ-BD) for the assessment, management, and monitoring of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation will establish a valid and reliable tool for Brazilian women with LUTS., Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 101 women was carried out at the Urogynecology Outpatient Clinic in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, between August 2020 and April 2022. The process of cross-cultural adaptation and validation was executed following the ICIQ Group's protocol. Reviewed by an expert committee, the first pre-test was followed by subsequent adaptations, resulting in a second adapted version that underwent expert revisions. A second pretest was conducted, followed by cross-cultural adaptation and construct validation. Finally, the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Bladder Diary-Brazilian Portuguese Version (ICIQ-BD-Br) underwent a validation process., Results: Construct validity (IVC >0.78) and internal consistency were satisfactory (α-Cronbach coefficient 0.87-0.94). The following adjustments were made: a specific field was created to document sleep and wake times, and a printed score ranging from 0 to 4 was included in the bladder sensation column. Test-retest reliability ranged from fair to excellent for all analyzed items (Spearman correlation: 0.64-0.95). Criterion validity analysis indicated slight agreement for one of the four symptoms analyzed (nocturia k=0.32). The final version was approved by the ICIQ Group., Conclusions: The ICIQ-BD-Br has been adapted for use in Brazilian Portuguese and has exhibited robust construct validity and reliability for Brazilian women with LUTS., (© 2024. Introduction: Health services collect patient experience data to monitor, evaluate and improve services and subsequently health outcomes. Obtaining authentic patient experience information to inform improvements relies on the quality of data collection processes and the responsiveness of these processes to the cultural and linguistic needs of diverse populations. This study explores the challenges and considerations in collecting authentic patient experience information through survey methods with Australians who primarily speak First Nations languages., Methods: First Nations language experts, interpreters, health staff and researchers with expertise in intercultural communication engaged in an iterative process of critical review of two survey tools using qualitative methods. These included a collaborative process of repeated translation and back translation of survey items and collaborative analysis of video-recorded trial administration of surveys with languages experts (who were also receiving dialysis treatment) and survey administrators. All research activities were audio- or video-recorded, and data from all sources were translated, transcribed and inductively analysed to identify key elements influencing acceptability and relevance of both survey process and items as well as translatability., Results: Serious challenges in achieving equivalence of meaning between English and translated versions of survey items were pervasive. Translatability of original survey items was extensively compromised by the use of metaphors specific to the cultural context within which surveys were developed, English words that are familiar but used with different meaning, English terms with no equivalent in First Nations languages and grammatical discordance between languages. Discordance between survey methods and First Nations cultural protocols and preferences for seeking and sharing information was also important: the lack of opportunity to share the 'full story', discomfort with direct questions and communication protocols that preclude negative or critical responses constrained the authenticity of the information obtained through survey methods. These limitations have serious implications for the quality of information collected and result in frustration and distress for those engaging with the survey., Conclusion: Profound implications for the acceptability of a survey tool as well as data quality arise from differences between First Nations cultural and communication contexts and the cultural context within which survey methods have evolved. When data collection processes are not linguistically and culturally congruent there is a risk that patient experience data are inaccurate, miss what is important to First Nations patients and have limited utility for informing relevant healthcare improvement. Engagement of First Nations cultural and language experts is essential in all stages of development, implementation and evaluation of culturally safe and effective approaches to support speakers of First Nations languages to share their experiences of health care and influence change.

Purpose: To culturally adapt and examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese (Cantonese) version of SATIS-Stroke (C-SATIS-Stroke) in people with chronic stroke., Materials and Methods: Forward and backward translations were performed in accordance with available guidelines. We administered the C-SATIS-Stroke to 101 people with stroke and 50 healthy older adults. We assessed the test-retest and internal reliability, measurement error, known-group validity, correlations with other outcome measures, optimal cut-off score and ceiling and floor effects., Results: C-SATIS-Stroke demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α  = 0.959) and good test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient 3,1 = 0.913). Compared with healthy controls, people with chronic stroke had lower C-SATIS-Stroke scores. The mean C-SATIS-Stroke score was significantly correlated with the mean scores of the Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale, Stroke Impact Scale, Community Integration Measure and Survey of Activities and Fear of Falling in the Elderly. The cut-off score to distinguish the levels of satisfaction with activity and participation between people with chronic stroke and healthy older adults was 80 out of 108 (sensitivity: 77%; specificity: 72%). C-SATIS-Stroke exhibited ceiling effects but not floor effects., Conclusions: C-SATIS-Stroke is a reliable and valid measure for assessing satisfaction with social participation among Chinese people with chronic stroke.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONSatisfactory semantic, idiomatic, cultural, and conceptual equivalence of the C-SATIS-Stroke are in line with those of the original English version of the SATIS-StrokeExcellent reliability and validity of the C-SATIS-Stroke are also in line with those of the original English version of the SATIS-StrokeThe C-SATIS-Stroke can be used to assess the subjective satisfaction feeling in terms of social participation among Chinese people with chronic stroke.

Study Design: Clinimetric Study., Objectives: To translate and cross-cultural adapt the Capabilities of Upper Extremity (CUE) questionnaire into Hindi Language and assess the psychometric properties of the CUE-Hindi (CUE-H)., Setting: Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi, INDIA., Methods: The CUE-H translation and cross-cultural adaptation followed standardized guidelines. The pre-final version was tested for clarity and comprehensibility. Content Validity Estimation was done using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Cronbach's alpha was used for assessing the internal consistency and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) for assessing the test-retest reliability., Results: All steps of the translation process were followed and documented. The CUE-H was found to be comprehensive to patients and easy to administer. Content Validity estimation resulted in the retention of all the questionnaire items. The ICC was 0.99 and Cronbach's alpha for the scale was 0.94., Conclusions: The CUE-H demonstrated acceptable measurement properties, showing that it can be used for assessing upper limb functional limitations in Hindi-speaking people with SCI. Background: There is a lack of standardized assessment tools for poststroke aphasia in Brazil, particularly bedside screenings for early identification of patients with suspected language disorders. The Language Screening Test (LAST) is a valid and reliable method for screening hospitalized patients following a stroke. This tool was first developed in French and then translated and validated in other languages., Purpose: This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the LAST into Brazilian Portuguese., Method: Following a systematic, multistep approach to translation and cultural adaptation of language instruments, this study developed the two parallel versions of the Brazilian Portuguese LAST (pLAST) Versions A and B. The final versions were applied to 70 healthy and 30 poststroke adults across age and educational levels. Subtests of the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination (BDAE) were used to assess the external validity of the pLAST., Results: Findings showed that the two versions (A and B) of the pLAST were equivalent (intraclass correlation coefficient = .91; p < .001). No floor or ceiling effects were observed, and internal validity was excellent (Cronbach's α = .85). Moreover, its external validity against the BDAE was moderate to strong. Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common condition, and the Menstrual Bleeding Questionnaire (MBQ) is used for its assessment., Objectives: To translate, assess the cut-off point for diagnosis, and explore psychometric properties of the MBQ for use in Brazilian Portuguese., Design and Setting: Prospective cohort study including 200 women (100 with and 100 without AUB) at a tertiary referral center., Methods: MBQ translation involved a pilot-testing phase, instrument adjustment, data collection, and back-translation. Cut-off point was obtained using receiver operating curve analysis. Menstrual patterns, impact on quality of life due to AUB, internal consistency, test-retest, responsiveness, and discriminant validity were assessed. For construct validity, the Pictorial Blood Assessment Chart (PBAC) and World Health Organization Quality of Life - abbreviated version (WHOQOL-BREF) were applied., Results: Women with AUB were older, had higher body mass indices, and had a worse quality of life during menstruation. Regarding the MBQ's psychometric variables, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was > 0.70 in all analyses, high intraclass correlation coefficient was found in both groups; no ceiling and floor effects were observed, and construct validity was demonstrated (correlation between MBQ score, PBAC score, and clinical menstrual cycle data). No difference between MBQ and PBAC scores were perceived after the test-retest. Significant differences were found between MBQ and PBAC scores before and after treatment. An MBQ score ≥ 24 was associated with a high probability of AUB; accuracy of 98%., Conclusion: The MBQ is a reliable questionnaire for Brazilian women. The cut-off ≥ 24 shows high accuracy to discriminate AUB.

Background: Menstrual cycle has a significant impact on women's health from different perspectives, both physically and psychologically. The assessment of menstrual-related distress is of pivotal clinical interest, especially in women with chronic exposure to abnormal bleeding or pain. The Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MEDI-Q) is a new tool originally developed in Italian that comprehensively evaluates menstrual-related distress., Objective: To validate the English version of the MEDI-Q in an English-speaking population., Methods: The study consisted of two phases: an initial translation phase of the original Italian version of the MEDI-Q, and a data collection phase to validate the new English version among 288 native English-speaking women., Results: The English version of MEDI-Q showed excellent psychometric properties, with high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.84) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.95). Construct validity was supported by significant correlations between MEDI-Q scores and scores on measures of psychological distress and premenstrual symptoms., Conclusions: The English version of the MEDI-Q is a valid and reliable instrument for the assessment of menstrual distress and its impact on psychological well-being. This tool can be utilized in research and clinical settings to comprehensively investigate the impact of menstruation on various populations, identify and monitor menstruation-related disorders promptly and effectively, and to evaluate the effectiveness of targeted treatments for menstrual distress.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Achilles Tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS), a patient-reported outcome measurement (PROM) designed specifically to assess outcomes in patients with Achilles tendon rupture, into the Thai language and then determine its validity and reliability., Methods: The ATRS was translated into the Thai version (Thai-ATRS) according to internationally recognized guidelines. The study included 50 patients with Achilles tendon rupture from 2003 to 2017. The web-based online assessments were conducted two weeks apart. Construction validity was determined by assessing the correlation between the Thai-ATRS and the Thai version of the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (Thai-FAOS). Reliability was determined with Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC)., Results: The validity test displayed a strong correlation between the Thai-ATRS and the Thai-FAOS (r = 0.87). The reliability test showed good internal consistency with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.95 and excellent internal consistency with an ICC of 0.95, which represented excellent test-retest reliability. Background: The Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS) is validated for measuring mental wellbeing in populations aged 11 + and has been translated into 30 + languages. The aims of this study were a) to translate and validate WEMWBS for use in Swahili-speaking populations to facilitate measurement and understanding of wellbeing, evaluation of policy and practice, and enable international comparisons; and b) to examine sociodemographic characteristics associated with higher and lower mental wellbeing in participants in the Girls' Education Challenge (GEC) project in Tanzania., Methods: A short questionnaire including WEMWBS and similar scales for comparison, socio-demographic information, and self-reported health was translated into Swahili using gold standard methodology. This questionnaire was used to collect data from secondary school students, learner guides, teacher mentors and teachers taking part in the GEC project in Tanzania. Focus groups were used to assess acceptability and comprehensibility of WEMWBS and conceptual understanding of mental wellbeing. These were audio-taped, transcribed and analysed thematically. Internal consistency of WEMWBS, correlation with comparator scales and confirmatory factor analysis were completed as quantitative validation. Finally, multivariable logistic regression was used to explore associations between individual characteristics and 'high' and 'low' mental wellbeing, defined as the highest and lowest quartile of WEMWBS scores., Results: 3052 students and 574 adults were recruited into the study. Participants reported that WEMWBS was understandable and relevant to their lives. Both WEMWBS and its short form met quantitative standards of reliability and validity, were correlated with comparator scales and met the criteria to determine a single factor structure. For students in the GEC supported government schools: mental wellbeing was higher in students in the final two 'forms' of school compared with the first two. In addition: being male, urban residence, the absence of markers of social marginality and better self-reported health were all significantly associated with better mental wellbeing. For adults, urban residence and better self-reported health were associated with better mental wellbeing., Conclusions: The Swahili translation of WEMWBS is available for use. Purpose: The study aimed to translate the Paternal Postnatal Attachment Scale (PPAS) into Korean and to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the PPAS (K-PPAS)., Methods: The PPAS was translated, back-translated, and reviewed by 12 experts and 5 fathers following the World Health Organization's guideline. A convenience sample of 396 fathers with infants in their first 12 months participated in this study. For construct validity, an underlying factor structure and model fit was assessed with an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Convergent and discriminant validity and reliability of the K-PPAS were evaluated., Results: The construct validity of the K-PPAS with 11 items was identified by two-factor structures: healthy attachment relationship, and patience and tolerance. The final model fit was shown acceptable with the normed chi-square = 1.94, comparative fit index = .94, Tucker-Lewis index = .92, root mean square error of approximation = .07, and standardized root mean square residual = .06. This model had acceptable convergent and discriminant validity for each construct with the values of the composite reliability and heterotrait-monotrait ratio at a satisfactory level. Discriminant validity with known groups showed that fathers with no postnatal depression had significantly higher scores on the K-PPAS than those with postnatal depression. Cronbach's α and McDonald's omega coefficient of the K-PPAS was .84 and .83., Conclusions: The K-PPAS would be beneficial to measure postnatal attachment among fathers with infants aged 12 months or younger in Korea. However, further studies are suggested to evaluate the applicability of the scale considering the various family structures, such as single or foster parents and multicultural families that exist within the Korean population., (Copyright © 2023. Introduction and Hypothesis: The aim was to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the APFQ (Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire) for the population of Brazilian pregnant and postpartum women., Methods: The translation and validation of the APFQ were performed according to Beaton's guideline recommendations, with a sample of 150 patients (75 pregnant, 75 postpartum). Cronbach's alpha assessed the scale's internal consistency and reproducibility with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). To analyze the construct validity, two questionnaires were applied, and the Spearman correlation was performed. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was executed to assess the fit of the data to the theoretical model. The ability to generate diagnosis was analyzed by sensitivity and specificity., Results: Only 1% of the sample scored in the prolapse domain, so it was removed from the validation analyses. Cronbach's alpha values greater than 0.70 were obtained for the bladder and bowel domains, and 0.69 for sexual function. As for reproducibility, the ICC was greater than 0.75 for all domains. Spearman's correlation was good for bowel (r=0.74), moderate for bladder (r=0.58), and poor for sexual function (r=0.23). CFA results showed a non-optimal adherence: despite the Chi-squared value being significant (p<0.001), the CMIN- which is the adherence of the data to the model- value is less than 3. Sensitivity above 80% was obtained, whereas specificity of 43%, 16%, and 12% was obtained for bowel, bladder, and sexual functions respectively., Conclusion: The APFQ was translated, culturally adapted, and validated for Brazilian pregnant and postpartum women. Objectives: We aim to assess the validity and reliability of the Musculoskeletal Pain Intensity and Interference Questionnaire for Musicians (MPIIQM) and to add to its cross-cultural adaptation process by translating, culturally adapting, and validating the MPIIQM into European Portuguese language in the population of Portuguese musicians., Methods: A Portuguese version of the MPIIQM (MPIIQM-Pt) was created through a process of forward and back translation, pilot testing, and cultural adaptation by expert panel evaluation. The psychometric evaluation was performed in a validation sample of 134 musicians, at baseline and after 7 days., Results: The high degree of internal consistency and the substantial test-retest reliability coefficients were demonstrated for each subscale (α = 0.896 and ICC = 0.997 for "pain intensity," and α = 0.879 and ICC = 0.999 for "pain interference," respectively). Exploratory factor analysis indicated two-factor structure (pain intensity and interference) that explained 75.5% of the variance. Both convergent and divergent validity are well demonstrated, confirming more than 90% of the previously defined hypotheses regarding correlations with other measures., Discussion: MPIIQM-Pt is the first validated questionnaire to evaluate pain among Portuguese musicians. It showed excellent psychometric properties, both in terms of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, factor analysis, and construct validity. Therefore, it is a valid and reliable tool suitable for both research and clinical practice purposes. Cerebral palsy (CP) is an early onset, non-progressive, neuromotor disorder. Adolescence is the transition from childhood to adulthood when changes in physical and emotional aspects and self-perception occur further imposing an impact to quality of life (QoL) in individuals with CP. Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life (CP QoL) Teen is a questionnaire examining different domains of QoL for adolescents with CP. This study is aimed at translating and validating self-report and proxy-report CP QoL-Teen (HK). Prior approval of translation has been obtained. Forward and backward translations were performed following standardized translation procedures. Participants and their caregivers were asked to complete self-report and proxy-report CP QoL-Teen (HK), and Child Health Questionnaire (CHQ). Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were assessed by Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. Concurrent validity was evaluated by Spearman's rank correlation between subscales of CP QoL-Teen (HK) and CHQ as well as expanded and revised version of Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS-E&R). Ninety-six participants completed the study. Of these, twenty participants completed CP QoL-Teen (HK) twice. Cronbach's α of CP QoL-Teen (HK) ranged from 0.84 to 0.95 suggesting excellent internal consistency. Moderate to excellent test-retest reliability were demonstrated in all subscales of CP QoL-Teen (HK) (self-report: ICC = 0.46-0.8; proxy-report: ICC = 0.40-0.72, p < 0.05). Weak to moderate association between subscales of CP QoL-Teen (HK) and CHQ (self-report: r s  = 0.24-0.61; proxy-report: r s  = - 0.41-0.60) was reported., Conclusion: This study showed that CP QoL-Teen (HK) has good psychometric properties. It is a valid and reliable tool to assess quality of life of adolescents with CP., What Is Known: • Cerebral Palsy Quality of life-Teen (CP QoL-Teen) is a validated tool with strong psychometric properties and clinical utility in gauging the QoL in adolescents with CP during their transition from childhood to adulthood when changes in physical and emotional aspects and self-perception occur. The negative symptoms of schizophrenia can be present at any clinical stage, but evaluating the negative symptoms always remains challenging. To screen the negative symptoms effectively, self-evaluation should be introduced. To date, professional psychiatrists used almost all of the scales available to screen the negative symptoms but could not obtain an accurate outcome. At the same time, an advanced self-assessment scale is needed to accompany the patients' self-feeling-based treatment strategies to understand their feelings about their symptoms. Hence, Chinese self-evaluation of negative symptoms (SNS) should be introduced in China. This study aims to examine the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of SNS. Two hundred patients with schizophrenia were included in this study and were evaluated entirely with the self-assessed negative symptoms by the Chinese version. The correlation analysis was performed between SNS and the Scale for Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS) to assess the criterion validity of SNS for screening negative symptoms. Exploratory factor analysis was used to determine the constructive validity of the SNS. Two senior professional psychiatrists were involved in this assessment based on their clinical experience and capability to define the severity of the negative symptoms. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was performed to assess the cutoff point of SNS. Cronbach's alpha coefficient and intraclass correlation (ICC) coefficient were used to determine the reliability of SNS. We have the following findings: The Chinese version of SNS demonstrated a significant correlation with the SANS (r = .774, p < .05). Exploratory factor analysis demonstrated that the factor loading varies from .442 to .788. ROC analysis demonstrated that at SNS ≥ 8, the patients demonstrated a mild severity of negative symptoms, and at SNS ≥ 15, the patients demonstrated a severe severity of negative symptoms. Subsequently, 9 < SNS < 14 was defined as a moderate severity of negative symptoms. The Cronbach's alpha and ICC coefficients of the Chinese version SNS were .877 and .774, respectively. Background: The Mini Suffering State Examination (MSSE) has been explicitly recommended to assess suffering in dementia patients. This study aimed to develop a German version of the MSSE and assess its psychometric properties involving people with advanced dementia (PAD) in a nursing home setting., Methods: The MSSE was translated into German, and 95 primary nurses administered it cross-sectionally to 124 PAD in Zurich, Switzerland. The psychometric properties of the German MSSE version were calculated for this population., Results: The mean age of the PAD was 83.3 years (SD = 9.1, range = 55-102 years), and 98 of them (79.0%) were women. The Kuder-Richardson Formula 20 coefficient for the entire scale (0.58), the eight items relating to objective health conditions (0.39), and the professional and family estimation of the patient's suffering (0.64) indicated low internal consistency. A confirmatory factor analysis indicated an unsatisfactory fit to a one-factor structure, with a comparative fit index and root mean square error of approximation of 0.71 and 0.08, respectively, and a Tucker-Lewis index of 0.64. The MSSE total score was significantly but moderately correlated with the total scores of the Symptom Management-End-of-Life with Dementia (SM-EOLD) scale (Pearson's correlation coefficient (r) = -0.44; p < 0.05), the physical suffering scores (r = 0.41; p < 0.05), and the psychological suffering scores (r = 0.55; p < 0.05)., Conclusions: The German version of the MSSE questionnaire did not perform well in the nursing home setting involving PAD. The instrument had low internal consistency, doubtful validity, and could not discriminate between suffering and other distressing symptoms. We do not recommend its use in this population., (© 2022. Objectives: The aim of the study was to develop the Polish version of the Reasons for Living Inventory (RFL-48) of Linehan et al. The questionnaire is a self-descriptive tool designed to measure six factors protecting against committing suicide: "Survival and Coping Beliefs", "Responsibility to Family", "Fear of Suicide", "Moral Objections", "Fear of Social Disapproval", "Child-Related Concerns". The original version of the method was characterized by good psychometric properties., Methods: A sample of 431 adults (236 women and 195 men), aged 18-65 years (mean age was 33 years, SD = 11.33), was recruited as a non-clinical group from various regions of Poland. The Beck's Depression Inventory, Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised and Positivity Scale were also used to evaluate the construct validity of the RFL-48., Results: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis supported an assumed six-dimensional structure of the questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.70 ("Fear of Suicide") to 0.95 ("Survival and Coping Beliefs") and amounted to 0.92 for the total score., Conclusions: The findings indicate that the Polish adaptation of the RFL questionnaire by Linehan et al. has good psychometric characteristics and can be used in both research and clinical practice.

Objective: This study aimed to translate, cross-culturally adapt, and validate the Heart Disease Fact Questionnaire into Brazilian Portuguese., Methods: The Brazilian version of the Heart Disease Fact Questionnaire was developed through the processes of translation, back-translation, review committee, and pre-test. Test-retest reliability was measured using the intraclass correlation coefficient and the kappa coefficient. Internal consistency was measured using Cronbach's alpha. For construct validity, the total Heart Disease Fact Questionnaire score was correlated with the Diabetes Knowledge Scale and the Diabetes Attitudes Questionnaire. Ceiling and floor effects were also evaluated in this study., Results: For construct validity and floor and ceiling effect measurements, a total of 100 participants were selected. Reliability was measured using a sub-sample of 30 participants from the total sample. We identified adequate values of reliability (kappa between 0.22 and 1.00 and ICC=0.75) and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha=0.79). We observed adequate correlations of the Heart Disease Fact Questionnaire score with Diabetes Knowledge Scale (r=0.348) and Diabetes Attitudes Questionnaire (r=0.136). No ceiling or floor effects found., Conclusion: Brazilian Portuguese version of the Heart Disease Fact Questionnaire has adequate psychometric properties according to the best scientific recommendations.

Study Objectives: We created a Dutch version of the Paris Arousal Disorders Severity Scale (PADSS), which assesses non-rapid eye movement (NREM) parasomnia symptoms over the past year (PADSS-year). This questionnaire was previously validated in patients with sleep walking and/or sleep terrors (SW/ST). We validated the questionnaire in SW/ST patients, and in a broader population, including patients with confusional arousals, comorbidities, and medication users ("other NREM parasomnias"). Furthermore, we introduced a version covering the past month (PADSS-month), with the potential purpose of evaluating symptom evolution and treatment response., Methods: We compared PADSS scores among 54 SW/ST patients, 34 age-matched controls, and 23 patients with other NREM parasomnias. We evaluated discriminative capacity, internal consistency, and construct validity. Furthermore, we assessed the test-retest reliability and treatment response of PADSS-month., Results: Healthy controls scored significantly lower than both patient groups. We found an excellent diagnostic accuracy (area under the curve PADSS-year 0.990, PADSS-month 0.987) and an acceptable internal consistency. Exploratory factor analysis identified 3 components: "behaviors outside the bed," "behaviors in/around the bed," and "violent behaviors," with the former 2 factors reflecting the distinction between SW and ST. PADSS-month showed an acceptable test-retest reliability (0.75). Additionally, PADSS-month significantly decreased after pharmaceutical and/or behavioral treatment. This change was correlated with the clinical impression of the caregiver, implying that PADSS-month is sensitive to treatment effects., Conclusions: The Dutch PADSS questionnaire can be used as a screening tool in a broad population of patients with NREM parasomnia, not only SW/ST. Objective: To translate and perform the cross-cultural adaptation of the Young Spine Questionnaire (YSQ) into Portuguese, and to assess its reliability., Method: Translation and cross-cultural adaptations were conducted according to accepted international standards. A preliminary version underwent pilot-testing with 32 children (11-14 years), equally divided by gender and age. Children were asked to rate each question in terms of clarity and comprehensibility, and to provide general feedback regarding the questionnaire. The final version of the questionnaire was approved by a committee consisting of experts from various fields. Test-retest reliability was assessed on 58 children using Cohen's and Fleiss' Kappa., Results: Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the YSQ only resulted in minor changes and the children rated all questions as "clear and understandable" in the pilot test, without gender or age differences being detected. Test-retest data was collected with a mean interval of 13 days. Reliability scores ranged from 0.56-0.97, equivalent to "moderate" to "almost perfect" agreement. Most questions (84%) had "substantial" or "almost perfect" agreement., Conclusion: The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of YSQ into Portuguese was successfully performed. This questionnaire was also shown to be reliable, supporting its future use in research projects.

Background: The original English version of the questionnaire 'Parental Perceptions of SDF Dental Color Changes' was used among parents in the New York City metropolitan area., Aim: To develop an Italian version of the questionnaire and to assess its validity., Design: The construct validity and the internal consistency were assessed in a convenience sample of Italian parents of 251 young healthy children seen at the University of Bologna and Pisa. Forward-backward technique was carried out for the translation of the questionnaire. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy was equal to 0.91, and Bartlett's test of sphericity was statistically significant (P = .001), so the items were treated with the exploratory principal component analysis (PCA)., Results: Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.69 to 0.95. PCA demonstrates that all the items load on the first component (87% of explained variance). All the Spearman correlation coefficients between each subscale (positive scenario: 0.563; negative scenario: 0.665) and the general acceptability showed significant correlation (P = .0001). Background: The Mothers Autonomy in Decision Making Scale (MADM) assesses women's autonomy and role in decision making. The Mothers on Respect Index (MORi) asseses women's experiences of respect when interacting with their healthcare providers. The Childbirth Experience Questionnaire 2.0 assesses the overall experience of childbirth (CEQ2.0). There are no validated Dutch measures of the quality of women's experiences in the intrapartum period. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of these measures in their Dutch translations., Methods: The available Dutch versions of the MADM and MORi were adapted to assess experiences in the intrapartum period. The CEQ2.0 was translated by using forward-backward procedures. The three measures were included in an online survey including items on individual characteristics (i.e. maternal, birth, birth interventions). Reliability was assessed by calculating Cronbach's alphas. Mann-Whitney, Kruskal Wallis or Student T-tests were applied where appropriate, to assess discrimination between women who differed on individual characteristics (known group validity). We hypothesized that women who experienced pregnancy complications and birth interventions would have statistically lower scores on the MADM, MORi and CEQ2.0, compared with women who had healthy pregnancies and physiological births. Convergent validity was assessed using Spearman Rank correlations between the MADM, MORi and/or CEQ2.0. We hypothesized moderate to strong correlations between these measures. Women's uptake of and feedback on the measures were tracked to assess acceptability and clarity., Results: In total 621 women were included in the cross sectional study. The calculated Cronbach's alphas for the MADM, MORi and CEQ, were ≥ 0.77. Knowngroup validity was confirmed through significant differences on all relevant individual characteristics, except for vaginal laceration repair. Spearman Rank correlations ranged from 0.46-0.80. In total 98% of the included women out of the eligible population completed the MADM and MORi for each healthcare professional they encountered during childbirth. The proportions of MADM and MORi-items which were difficult to complete ranged from 0.0-10.8%, 0.6-2.7%, respectively., Conclusions: The results of our study showed that the Dutch version of the MADM, MORi and CEQ2.0 in Dutch are valid instruments that can be used to assess women's experiences in the intrapartum period., (© 2022. Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the traditional Chinese version of the Childbirth Experience Questionnaire (CEQ 2.0) and assess the childbirth experiences of Chinese women., Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Hong Kong from July 2020 to February 2021. In total, 975 mothers, who could read traditional Chinese and gave birth in 2020 or 2021, were included in the analysis. Data were fitted into the model proposed by the original developers using the confirmatory factor analysis. The data were then randomly split into training and validation sets for exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Childbirth experiences were assessed. Factor structure, internal construct validity, internal consistency, and known-group validity were assessed., Results: The originally proposed CEQ2.0 model showed a poor fit. An exploratory factor analysis identified a revised four-factor model (CEQ2.0-R) on a randomly split sample, which showed a satisfactory fit (CFI=0.912; TLI=0.884; SRMR=.053; RMSEA=0.072) on the other split sample. The revised scale comprised 13 items and four domains: (1)"Own capacity" (6 items), (2) "General support" (3 items), (3) "Perceived safety" (2 items), and (4) "Professional support" (2 items). CEQ2.0-R showed high internal construct validity and reliability. It can differentiate between participants with different characteristics, including parity, oxytocin augmentation, and companionship during labour. The childbirth experiences of the participants were merely positive, and participants reported that more support from midwives is needed., Conclusions: CEQ2.0-R can adequately describe the childbirth experiences of women in Hong Kong. The questionnaire is easy to be administer and can be used to assess several domains of the childbirth experiences. Objective: This study aims to psychometrically validate the Turkish version of the Vulvovaginal Symptom Questionnaire (VSQ)., Methods: Postmenopausal women with and without genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) were included as the target population and the control group. Psychometric properties were validated both for sexually active (21 items) and passive women (16 items). Several a priori hypotheses were formulated to assess construct validity. Scores of GSM-Assessment Tool, Female Sexual Function Index, Michigan Incontinence Severity Index, Female Genital Self-Image Scale, and Menopause Rating Scale and their correlation with VSQ scores were compared., Results: A total of 242 postmenopausal women were included. The VSQ showed good internal consistency with a Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.822 (0.800-0.821) and 0.873 (0.853-0.870) in sexually active and passive women, respectively. Originally proposed model (4-factor model, n = 162) showed adequate fit in women with active sexuality and the 3-factor model (n = 242) showed moderate fit. The test-retest reliability was good for symptoms, emotions, and life impact subscales (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]: 0.846, 0.835, and 0.755, respectively) and moderate for sexual impact subscale (ICC: 0.643). Background: To identify and describe the breast cancer-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instruments with evidence of validation in the breast cancer population for potential use in patients treated for breast cancer (excluding surgery)., Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review using PubMed, Embase, and PsycINFO databases to identify articles that contain psychometric properties of HRQoL instruments used in patients with breast cancer. Relevant literature from January 1, 2009, to August 19, 2019, was searched. Articles published in English that reported psychometric properties (reliability, validity) of HRQoL instruments were identified., Results: The database search yielded 613 unique records; 131 full-text articles were reviewed; 80 articles presented psychometric data for instruments used in breast cancer (including generic measures). This article reviews the 33 full articles describing psychometric properties of breast cancer-specific HRQoL instruments: EORTC QLQ-C30, EORTC QLQ-BR23, FACT-B, FBSI, NFBSI-16, YW-BCI36, BCSS, QuEST-Br, QLICP-BR, INA-BCHRQoL, and two newly developed unnamed measures, one by Deshpande and colleagues (for use in India) and one by Vanlemmens and colleagues (for use among young women and their partners). The articles that described the EORTC QLQ-C30, QLQ-BR23, and FACT-B centered on validating translations, providing additional support for content validity, and demonstrating acceptability of electronic patient-reported outcome administration. Psychometric properties of the measures were acceptable. Several new measures have been developed in Asia with an emphasis on development on cultural relevance/sensitivity. Others focused on specific populations (i.e., young women with breast cancer)., Conclusions: Historically, there have been limited options for validated measures to assess HRQoL of patients with breast cancer. A number of new measures have been developed and validated, offering promising options for assessing HRQoL in this patient population. Purpose: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Turkish version of the Facial Disability Index (FDI) and evaluate its psychometric properties, including reliability and validity., Methods: Translation of the original FDI was followed by international guidelines. Paralysis classification was evaluated with House-Brackman Rating System (HBGS). Patients completed Short Form-36 (SF-36) along with the Turkish version of the FDI and refilled the Turkish FDI one week later. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were analyzed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. Construct validity was assessed by calculating the Spearman's correlation coefficient. Also, exploratory factor analysis was carried out by identifying the factor structure of the scale., Results: After the pre-test of the Turkish FDI, there was no need for linguistic and cultural adaptation. The internal consistency of the physical function subscale was high (0.82). The social/well-being subscale's Cronbach alpha (0.63) was within the acceptable range. Test-retest reliability was excellent (ICC of physical function = 0.91 and social/well-being = 0.93, p  < 0.05). The physical function subscale was correlated with the PF subscale of SF-36 and HBGS ( r  = -0.837 and 0.292, respectively; p  < 0.05). Besides, the social/well-being function subscale was correlated with HBGS and all subscales of SF-36, except RP ( p  < 0.05). Factor analysis results of the Turkish FDI were similar to the other version studies., Conclusion: The Turkish version of the FDI is a valid and reliable questionnaire in patients with peripheral facial paralysis.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe Turkish version FDI is the first Turkish tool translated cross-culturally adapted for specific assessment of facial paralysis.The Turkish version of the FDI is a valid and reliable questionnaire and can be used in all native Turkish speaking patients in peripheral facial paralysis.This assessment tool can be used in clinical routine and research settings to evaluate facial paralysis.

Background: The Severe Respiratory Insufficiency Questionnaire (SRI) is a multidimensional instrument for health-related quality of life (HRQL) assessment in patients with chronic respiratory failure (CRF). The SRI has originally been developed in German in 2003, but 15 translated versions have been created during the last 18 years with the exclusion of the Italian translation., Aims of the Study: The present project was aimed at creating an Italian version of the SRI., Methods: Professional forward-translation and back-translation procedures have been provided based on the original German version by independent translators, and this was followed by final reconciliation., Results: The Italian SRI contains 49 items covering 7 different subscales which can summarize to one Summary Score., Conclusions: The Italian SRI is a multidimensional instrument, which can be used for HRQL assessment in Italian-speaking patients with CRF. Background: Inflammatory bowel disease comprises two conditions: ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire 32 (IBDQ-32) is a specific questionnaire which has been translated from English into Spanish and validated. In the Spanish-speaking countries of America it has not been validated. The aim was to determine the psychometric properties, validity and reliability of the Mexican version of the IBDQ-32 questionnaire., Methods: A total of 316 patients with inflammatory bowel disease and 100 healthy controls participated in the study. The questionnaires IBDQ-32 and SF-36 were issued on two occasions (separated by 15 days). The psychometric properties of the Mexican version of the IBDQ-32 questionnaire were determined., Results: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease had an impaired quality of life compared to healthy controls. There were no differences between ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease in the total scores of IBDQ-32 and its domains. The internal consistency reliability was good. The intraclass coefficient showed good reliability (repeated measurement) for total scale and all four subscales. Factor analysis explained variance is higher than 50% therefore is considered adequate/acceptable. The correlation between IBDQ-32 and SF-36 showed a satisfactory association. The social domain is the only one that presented a ceiling effect., Conclusions: The Mexican version of the IBDQ-32 quality of life questionnaire is valid and reliable. Background: There is a need to perform a Canadian French translation and linguistic validation of the health-related quality of life utility measure for pre-school children (HuPS) conceptually equivalent to the original Canadian English version., Research Design and Methods: The translation process consisted of forward and back translations. The linguistic validation was performed with the parents of preschool children during face-to-face cognitive debriefing interviews. The whole process was done in accordance with academic standards and the guidance of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for patient-reported outcome instruments., Results: The results of back translations indicated that 89% of the sentences were identical or almost identical to the original English-language wording. The review of the back translations led to a change in 13 sentences out of 91 from the reconciled forward translation, while the linguistic validation process with 13 parents led to 14 additional changes. Preliminary reliability validation results indicate a Cronbach's alpha of 0.73., Conclusion: The translation and linguistic testing processes were successful in creating a valid HuPS in Canadian French (HuPS-CF). This translation should be the subject of reliability and validity studies in a wide variety of clinical and general populations before to use in research projects.

Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is an increasing health problem, the diagnosis of which is generally delayed due to long waiting lists for the tests used to identify it. Therefore, tools that help on classifying patients at higher risk of suffering this syndrome have been developed., Methods: One hundred ninety-three consecutive patients, with and without OSAS, filled in the Spanish version of the STOP-Bang questionnaire in Hospital Universitario de Torrejón (Spain). Polysomnographies were performed to diagnose the presence and severity of the OSAS. Statistics analysis of the demographic characteristics of the sample and the questionnaire results was performed., Results: Most patients were male (73%) and the mean age was 50.4 years (ranging from 19-77 years). Cronbach α coefficient in the sample was 0.8072. A statistically significant difference was noted in the questionnaire scores between patients with OSAS and those without the syndrome., Conclusions: The Spanish version of the STOP-Bang questionnaire possess a good internal consistency that allows us to rely on it as a screening tool for patients with OSAS. In our sample, a difference in the questionnaire score was appreciated between patients with and without the syndrome, which strongly supports the utility of the questionnaire for its purpose.

Background: A patient reported outcome (PRO) instrument with evidence of validity and reliability for assessing symptoms of eosinophilic gastritis (EG) and eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is needed to measure treatment benefit in clinical trials. The aim of this research is to develop an EG/EGE symptom PRO instrument for patients aged 12 and above., Methods: The Symptom Assessment for Gastrointestinal Eosinophilic Diseases (SAGED) was developed through a literature review, discussions with expert clinicians, and concept elicitation and cognitive debriefing interviews with patients. Patients (n = 28) were recruited based on confirmed diagnosis and self-reported symptoms. The final instrument was translated and linguistically validated with additional cognitive debriefing interviews (n = 105)., Results: SAGED is a 24-h recall questionnaire consisting of eight items evaluating the core symptoms of EG and EGE (abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, early satiety, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea). Seven of the eight items are evaluated on an 11-point numerical rating scale ranging from 'none' to 'worst imaginable'. Cognitive debriefing interviews showed that adults and adolescents understand the content and are able to select a response that reflects their experience. The linguistic validation process produced 21 translations that are understandable to patients and conceptually equivalent to the source version., Conclusions: SAGED is suitable for measuring symptom improvement in adult and adolescent patients with EG and/or EGE. The content validity of SAGED has been established through best practices in qualitative research for PRO instrument development. Background: The Children's Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ) is used with parents to determine the characteristics of eating behaviour of their children and, consequently, children's propensity to become obese. It has been successfully used mainly in Western countries, but not in Saudi Arabia. In this pilot study, we explored the use of the Saudi version of the CEBQ for preschool children aged 2-6 years in Saudi Arabia, and assessed the associations between eating behaviours and children's age, gender and relative weight and parental weight., Methods: Parents of 200 Saudi preschool children in Riyadh completed the Saudi version of the CEBQ. Factor analyses on all CEBQ items were performed and differences between genders and age groups were examined. Correlations between children's BMI z-scores and eating behaviours were analysed using linear regression., Results: The factor analysis revealed an eight-factor solution similar to the theoretical factor structure, with good internal reliability and acceptable correlations between subscales. Boys scored higher than girls on food responsiveness; no difference between age groups was found. Positive associations between BMI z-scores and 'food approach' subscales, food responsiveness, enjoyment of food and emotional overeating were found, while 'food avoidant' subscales, satiety responsiveness and slowness in eating had inverse relationships with BMI z-scores. Maternal BMI had a positive association with BMI z-scores and food responsiveness., Conclusion: The CEBQ is a valid psychometric tool that can be reliably used to assess eating behaviour characteristics in Saudi preschool children.

(1) Background: Obesity, part of the triple global burden of disease, is increasingly attracting research on its preventive and curative management. Knowledge of eating behavior can be useful both at the individual level (to individualize treatment for obesity) and the population level (to implement more suitable food policies). The Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) is a widely used international tool to assess eating behavior, i.e., emotional, external and restricted eating styles. The aim of this study was to validate the Romanian version of DEBQ, as obesity is a major concern in Romania. (2) Methods: Our study tested the psychometric properties of the Romanian version of DEBQ on an adult population and explored the associations of eating behavior with weight status (3) Results: The study showed a factor load similar to the original version of the questionnaire and a very good internal validity (Cronbach's alpha fidelity coefficient greater than 0.8 for all scales of the questionnaire) for the Romanian version of DEBQ and showed that all of the scales positively correlated with body mass index in both men and women. (4) Conclusions: This study will enable the use of the DEBQ Romanian version on the adult population of Romania where the findings could be incorporated into developing better strategies to reduce the burden of nutrition-related diseases.

Background/objectives: Assessment of Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) in patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency requiring Home Mechanical Ventilation (HMV) requires a valid measurement tool. The Severe Respiratory Insufficiency (SRI) questionnaire, originally developed in German, has been translated into different languages and tested in different contexts, but has so far not been in use in Arabic-speaking populations. The objective of this study is to validate the Arabic version of the SRI questionnaire in a sample of Arabic-speaking patients from Lebanon., Methods: Following forward/backward translations, the finalized Arabic version was administered to 149 patients (53 males-96 females, age 69.80 ± 10 years) receiving HMV. Patients were recruited from outpatient clinics and visited at home. The Arabic SRI and the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) were administered, in addition to questions on sociodemographics and medical history. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used to explore dimensionality; internal consistency reliability of the unidimensional scale and its subscales was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. External nomological validity was examined by assessing the correlation between the SRI and SF-36 scores., Results: The 49-item Arabic SRI scale showed a high internal consistency reliability (Cronbach alpha for the total scale was 0.897 and ranged between 0.73 and 0.87 for all subscales). Correlations between the SF-36-Mental Health Component MHC and SF-36-Physical Health Component with SRI-Summary Scale were 0.57 and 0.66, respectively, with higher correlations observed between the SF-36 and specific sub-scales such as the Physical Functioning and the Social Functioning subscales [r = 0.81 and r = 0.74 (P < 0.01), respectively]., Conclusion and Recommendations: The Arabic SRI is a reliable and valid tool for assessing HRQL in patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency receiving home mechanical ventilation., (© 2021. Background: Osteoarthritis is the most common form of hand arthritis and arthritis of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb is a potentially limiting disease. There is no homogeneity in the evaluation of outcomes for the rhizarthrosis treatment. In an attempt to standardize the evaluation of results, some subjective questionnaires, non-specific, were used to evaluate rhizarthrosis. Trapeziometacarpal Arthrosis Symptoms and Disability (TASD) was described by Becker et al.with the purpose of evaluating symptom intensity and degree of disability, as to compare results after treatment. Our objective is to translate, validate and do the cultural adaptation of the questionnaire TASD into the Brazilian Portuguese., Methods: The questionnaire was translated, with reverse translation. The translations were evaluated and synthesized by a committee, arriving at TASD-BR. Thirty-one patients with a diagnosis of rhizarthrosis answered the questionnaire. We evaluated, the internal consistency, reliability, agreement and ceiling and floor effect for validation., Results: The questionnaires were translated and adapted according to defined protocols. The internal consistency, through Cronbach's α coefficient for TASD-BR, was 0.927. The questionnaire's reliability, through the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient, was also shown to be quite high, with κ = 0.961 (0.954-0.967). The agreement, measured through the Standard Error Measurement, remained with standardized values below 5%. Background: The recently developed Spine Oncology Study Group Outcomes Questionnaire (SOSGOQ2.0) was proven a valid and reliable instrument measuring health-related quality of life (HRQOL) for patients with spinal malignancies. A German version was not available., Objective: A cross-cultural adaptation of the SOSGOQ2.0 to the German language and its multicenter evaluation., Methods: In a multistep process, a cross-cultural adaptation of the SOSGOQ2.0 was conducted. Subsequently, a multicenter, prospective observational cohort study was initiated to assess the reliability and validity of the German adaptation. To assess external construct validity of the cross-cultural adapted questionnaire, a comparison to the established questionnaire QLQ-C30 from the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer was conducted. Mean-difference plots were used to measure the agreement between the questionnaires in total score and by domain (deviation from mean up to 10% allowed). Further reliability and validity tests were carried out. Change to baseline was analysed 3-16 weeks later after different interventions occurred. Clinically relevant thresholds in comparison to the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire were evaluated by ROC curve analysis., Results: We could enroll 113 patients from four different university hospitals (58 females, 55 males). Mean age was 64.11 years (sd 11.9). 80 patients had an ECOG performance status of 2 or higher at baseline. External construct validity in comparison to the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire in total score and by domain was confirmed (range of deviation 4.4 to 9.0%). Good responsiveness for the domains Physical Functioning (P < .001) and Pain (P < .001) could be shown. The group mean values also displayed a difference in the domains of Social Functioning (P = .331) and Mental Health (P = .130), but not significant. The minimum clinically relevant threshold values for the questionnaire ranged from 4.0 to 7.5 points., Conclusions: According to our results, the cross-cultural adapted questionnaire is a reliable and valid tool to measure HRQOL in German speaking patients with spinal malignancies. Especially the domains Physical Functioning and Pain showed overall good psychometric characteristics. In this way, a generic questionnaire, such as the EORTC QLQ-C30, can be usefully supplemented by spine-specific questions to increase the overall accuracy measuring HRQOL in patients with spinal malignancies., (© 2021. Background: Given the importance of screening pregnant women's distress, it was intended to investigate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Tilburg Pregnancy Distress Scale (TPDS-P) for screening pregnancy distress., Methods: This methodological psychometric study was conducted with participation of 360 pregnant women. The TPDS was translated into Persian. Factor analysis was used to investigate the construct validity. The results of the correlation test between the results of the two questionnaires, Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21) and TPDS-P, were used to determine the criterion validity of TPDS-P. Internal consistency of the items was calculated by the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Stability of the results was examined by test-retest method and Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) was calculated. Examining the structure of the factors derived from exploratory factor analysis, fitness of the model was done through confirmatory factor analysis. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software., Results: Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) was 0.846 (p = 0.001). Sixteen items of TPDS-P accounted for 51.42 percent variances. The TPDS-P exhibited appropriate fitness. There was poor to moderate but significant direct correlation between the subscales of DASS-21 and TPDS-P. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the TPDS-P was 0.81 and ICC was 0.70., Conclusions: TPDS-P, with appropriate validity and reliability, can be used as a practical scale to evaluate women's distress during pregnancy in Farsi-speaking societies., (© 2021. Objective: The Test of Adherence to Inhalers (TAI) is a validated self-reported questionnaire that can reliably assess adherence to inhalers through patient self-report. However, it was not available in Bahasa Melayu (BM) language, nor has it been validated for use in the Malaysian population. The study aimed, therefore, to translate the 10-item TAI questionnaire into BM and evaluate its psychometric properties., Methods: The translation of the English version of the valid 10-item TAI questionnaire into BM was followed by subjecting it to a series of tests establishing factorial, concurrent and known group validities. Concurrent validity was assessed through Spearman's rank correlation coefficient against pharmacy refill-based adherence scores. Known group validity was assessed by cross-tabulation against asthma symptom control and using chi-square test. The internal consistency of the test scale was determined by a test-retest method using Cronbach's alpha (α) value and intraclass correlation coefficients., Results: A total of 120 adult asthma patients participated in the study. A 2-factor structure was obtained and confirmed with acceptable fit indices; CFI, NFI, IFI, TLI >0.9 and, RMSEA was 0.08. The reliability of the scale was 0.871. The test-retest reliability coefficient for the total sum score was 0.832 ( p  < 0.01), which indicated good reliability. The 10-item TAI-BM established concurrent and known group validities. The sensitivity and specificity of the tool were >85%., Conclusions: The scale successfully translated into BM and validated. The 10-item TAI-BM appears fit for use in testing inhaler adherence of Malaysian patients with asthma.

Background: This study was conducted to develop a Chinese version of the Baby Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (BEBQ) and to evaluate its reliability and validity., Methods: The Chinese version of the BEBQ was developed by translation and back-translation of the original BEBQ, followed by revision according to experts on the most appropriate item content. Mothers of 300 infants aged <12 months were recruited for survey participation from the paediatric outpatient departments of two large general hospitals in Xi'an, China. Fifty of the mothers were selected randomly for retesting after 2 weeks. Face-to-face surveys included explanation of the process, administration of the Chinese version of the BEBQ with regard to the exclusive breast-feeding period, and demographic data collection. The reliability, validity and discrimination of the questionnaire were evaluated through correlation coefficient calculation, factor analysis, parallel analysis and other methods., Results: The Chinese version of the BEBQ consists of 15 items in four dimensions (food responsiveness, enjoyment of food, slowness in eating and satiety responsiveness). The cumulative variance contribution rate was 58.4%, the Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.93, the Guttman split-half reliability coefficient was 0.87 and the test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.75. The satiety responsiveness and food responsiveness scores differed significantly according to gestational age at birth, infant sex and average monthly weight gain (all P < 0.05). The enjoyment of food score differed significantly according to average monthly weight gain (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: The Chinese version of the BEBQ showed good reliability and validity and can be used to evaluate infants' appetite through the assessment of eating behaviour., (© 2021 The Authors. The Body Acceptance by Others Scale-2 (BAOS-2) is a 13-item instrument measuring generalised perceptions of body acceptance by others. Here, we first demonstrate that a Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) translation of the BAOS-2 is psychometrically valid in a sample of 1,049 Malaysian adults (Study 1). Using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, we extracted a unidimensional model of BAOS-2 scores that retained all 13 items. BAOS-2 scores had adequate internal consistency and indices of validity (convergent, construct, concurrent, and incremental), and were scalar invariant across gender and ethnicity (Malaysian Malays vs. Chinese). Next, we assessed invariance of BAOS-2 scores across samples from Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and the United States (total N = 2,575; Study 2). Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis showed that partial scalar invariance was achieved. Participants in the interdependent cultural context of Malaysia had significantly higher scores - with small effect sizes - than their counterparts in the independent contexts of the United Kingdom and United States. In addition, women had significantly higher scores than men, but the effect size was negligible. Brazilian women are known to present high levels of physical appearance concerns, and data suggest they often compare themselves with others. Nevertheless, there is no validated instrument to systematically assess appearance comparisons in the Brazilian population. Thus, this study aimed to translate the Physical Appearance Comparison Scale-Revised (PACS-R) into Brazilian Portuguese and evaluate its factor structure, internal consistency, and convergent validity in Brazilian college women. The translated version into Brazilian Portuguese of the PACS-R was completed by 832 Brazilian college women and its factor structure was examined through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, internal consistency through McDonald's omega, and convergent validity through its associations with measures of eating disorder symptoms, internalization of appearance ideals, appearance-related sociocultural pressures, body satisfaction, and self-esteem. The results suggested an 11-item single-factor scale. The Brazilian Portuguese PACS-R showed adequate internal consistency and was significantly associated with all measures of convergent validity in the expected direction, indicating its adequate convergent validity. Background: The aim of this study was to prepare and validate the Lithuanian version of the STOP-BANG questionnaire and evaluate its correlation with polysomnography results., Methods: In this study, we included patients ≥ 18 years of age who underwent overnight polysomnography between January 1 in 2018 and January 1 in 2019. All patients completed the STOP-BANG questionnaire before polysomnography. To assess the adequacy of the questionnaire, we used contingency tables and areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve., Results: The study included 236 patients. The mean age of the patients was 55.2 ± 11.5 years and 159 (68%) were men. The mean apnea-hypopnea index for the entire study group was 33.8 ± 28.4, and the mean STOP-BANG score was 5.4 ± 1.6 points. Moderate (0.3-0.7, p < 0.05) correlations were found between the STOP-BANG questionnaire scores and all measured objective anthropometric and polysomnography parameters. The questionnaire's Cronbach's alpha score was 0.408. Based on the analysis of the ROC curves, the cut-off STOP-BANG score of 3 points showed a sensitivity of 87% and a specificity of 50% (AUC = 0.717) for the identification of any OSA. The positive predictive value (PPV) for an identification of any OSA at a cut-off point of 3 was 96%, and the negative predictive value (NPV) was 26%., Conclusions: The linguistic and cultural adaptation of the Lithuanian version of the STOP-BANG questionnaire was carried out in accordance with international recommendations. The Functionality Appreciation Scale (FAS; Alleva et al., 2017) is a widely used instrument for the measurement of individual's appreciation of their body for what it can do and is capable of doing (i.e., functionality appreciation). Here, we examined the psychometric properties of a novel Italian translation of the FAS. A sample of 950 Italian adults completed the FAS, as well as previously validated measures of body image (body appreciation, body esteem, body surveillance), disordered eating symptoms, and psychological well-being (self-esteem, general distress). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a 1-dimensional model of FAS scores, with all 7 items retained. Scores achieved scalar invariance across gender, and the gender difference in latent FAS scores was not significant. FAS scores were found to have adequate internal consistency, test-retest reliability up to three weeks, and convergent and criterion-related validity through significant correlations with all additional constructs. However, evidence of incremental validity was weak, and likely reflected high nomological and conceptual similarity between functionality and body appreciation in this national context. Objective: This study aimed to adapt a Peruvian version of the brief scale to assess psychological violence in health professionals (EVP-salud), exploring its validity and reliability properties., Methods: We made a cross-sectional study of psychometric evaluation conducted between January 2019 and February 2020. It involved the voluntary and anonymous participation of 316 health professionals and administrative workers from 17 health centers in Peru, who were administered the 22-item psychological violence scale. In addition, three other instruments were used to assess convergent and discriminative validity., Results: In contrast to other findings using similar instruments, the item composition of the abbreviated psychological violence scale converges on three components that assess isolation, intimidation, and belittling violence. This validation provides evidence of good fit in criterion and construct, explaining 66.7% of the accumulated variance and up to 54.3% when the final version is reduced to 13 items and three factors. The data reflect a high inverse association between psychological violence and intrinsic job satisfaction., Conclusions: The empirical results indicate psychometric properties of the instrument, with strong support in the validity and appropriate reliability according to the internal consistency indexes.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive disorder of phenylalanine (Phe) metabolism, causing a build-up of Phe in the body. Treatment consists of a Phe-restricted diet for life and regular determination of blood Phe levels to monitor the intake of Phe. Despite the fact that diet is the cornerstone of treatment, there are no studies examining common knowledge about food items and whether they are allowed as part of the PKU diet. Improving parents' and patients' knowledge and competence about the diet enables them to make appropriate food choices. This study validates a food-knowledge questionnaire first developed in Spanish and modified for English speaking populations. The questionnaire potentially helps parents to prepare appropriate meals and healthcare providers to create individualized educational programs about PKU for children and adolescents with this disorder.

Background and Purpose: No suitable scale has been identified in literature that comprehensively measure self-efficacy of Pakistani breast cancer patients. The study aimed to develop a self-efficacy scale in Urdu language and determine its dimensions., Methods: The scale was developed with input from experts and literature. It was administered, in cross-sectional phase of two pilot studies, on breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Post hoc internal consistency reliability was computed and principal component analysis (PCA) was performed., Results: U-SES comprised 17 questions. PCA revealed a total of five factors explaining cumulative variance of 68.7%. These factors were self-confidence, faith, coping, optimism, and decision making. Post hoc internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) value was high (∞ = 0.87)., Conclusion: The self-efficacy scale has acceptable validity and reliability and has potential to obtain information related to self-efficacy of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy., (© Copyright 2021 Springer Publishing Company, LLC.)

Background and Purpose: To develop an attitude scale that measures the cognitive, affective, and behavioral skills of women to prevent cervical cancer., Methods: Content validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability were examined. The content validity was evaluated by eight experts. The psychometric properties of a 39-item scale were evaluated on 530 women in a community health center in Turkey., Results: The content validity index was 0.98. The factor loads of the scales were above 0.65 and the variance explanation ratio was 55.5%. In confirmatory factor analysis, the final scale structure with three factors and 22-item was confirmed.
