Nowadays, many electrical and electronic devices emit electromagnetic waves at various frequencies in the environment. There are various studies in the literature about the effects of this electromagnetic waves on human health. In these studies, electromagnetic radiation is associated with some diseases. Electromagnetic shielding is the basic approach to limiting or blocking electromagnetic wave. Textile surfaces including the conductive wires can be used for this purpose with their cost-effectiveness, flexible and lightweight construction. The main problem that occurs during the use of metals is corrosion by oxidation or other chemical effects. Metal surfaces can be coated with various materials against corrosion in order to preserve their properties throughout their lifetime. In this study, the electromagnetic shielding and surface resistivity properties of the fabric samples which are produced by using composite yarns that including the insulated and normal copper wires are investigated. The results of the study showed that the conductivity of the sample containing insulated copper wire was significantly lower than that of normal copper wire, while the both fabrics showed the electromagnetic shielding function.

Bu çalışmada, metal kompozit şönil iplik üretimi gerçekleştirilmiş ve bu ipliklerden örme kumaş üretilerek performans özellikleri araştırılmıştır. Şönil ipliğin kararlı yapısını oluşturan bağ iplikleri, gümüş kaplı poliamid filament ile pamuk ipliğinin katlanıp bükülmesi yoluyla üretilmiştir. Elde edilen kompozit iplikler örülerek kumaş haline getirilmiş, karşılaştırma amacıyla %100 pamuk ipliğinden kontrol kumaşı da üretilmiştir. Numunelerin aşınma dayanımı, dairesel eğilme direnci, elektriksel direnci ve antibakteriyel aktivitesinin belirlenmesi için gerekli testler yapılmıştır. Kompozit kumaş ile kontrol kumaşından elde edilen sonuçlar karşılaştırılmış ve değerlendirilmiştir. Kompozit kumaş örneğinin kontrol kumaş örneğinden 6 kat fazla aşınma dayanımına sahip olduğu, daha düşük yüzey özdirenci gösterdiği ve yapısında gümüş kullanılmasına karşın antibakteriyel özellik göstermediği bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. In this study, performance characteristics of knitted fabrics, which were produced by using metal composite chenille yarns, were investigated. Cotton yarn was folded and twisted with silver-coated polyamide yarn for producing core yarns of chenille. Composite chenille yarns were knitted to single jersey fabric. 100% cotton fabric was also produced as control sample for comparison. Abrasion resistance, circular bending rigidity, electrical resistance and antibacterial activity tests were applied to samples. The obtained results were compared and evaluated. As a conclusion, composite fabrics showed revealed 6 times better abrasion resistance and lower surface resistivity than control sample. Despite the use of silver in structure, composite fabric did not show antibacterial activity.
