In the design process of the submerged floating tunnel, it is necessary to carry out the hydrodynamic engineering test to determine the relevant hydrodynamic parameters, and verify the feasibility of the scheme. There is no engineering case of SFT and no monitored date, the physical model test approach is critical in making breakthrough of this engineering technique. In this paper, the physical model test method of SFT was discussed with reference to the marine and ocean engineering test method. The basic principles of model tests including the dimensionless similarity criterion and the technology of fluid velocity measurement were discussed. Then hydrodynamic test contents of SFT were elaborated, covering the towing test for tunnel body, wave effect on tunnel body, plane motion mechanism (PMM) test, the circulating water channel test, the vortex-induced motion (VIM) test, the ocean basin test and the hydroelastic model test; test principles. Testing procedures and key influential factors of the result were given in detail correspondingly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
