In the design process of the submerged floating tunnel, it is necessary to carry out the hydrodynamic engineering test to determine the relevant hydrodynamic parameters, and verify the feasibility of the scheme. There is no engineering case of SFT and no monitored date, the physical model test approach is critical in making breakthrough of this engineering technique. In this paper, the physical model test method of SFT was discussed with reference to the marine and ocean engineering test method. The basic principles of model tests including the dimensionless similarity criterion and the technology of fluid velocity measurement were discussed. Then hydrodynamic test contents of SFT were elaborated, covering the towing test for tunnel body, wave effect on tunnel body, plane motion mechanism (PMM) test, the circulating water channel test, the vortex-induced motion (VIM) test, the ocean basin test and the hydroelastic model test; test principles. In this paper, the computational fluid dynamics software FLUENT was used to establish the cross-sectional flow model of the submerged floating tunnel with different characteristics in the uniform flow field, and to study the characteristics of forces and flow field of different sections. The results show that: 1) the drag coefficient and lift coefficient of ellipse section are relatively small, while those of square section are relatively large; The vortex shedding frequency of ellipse section is larger than that of square section. 2) the separation angle of square section is the smallest, while the separation angle of long-tip square section is the largest. 3) the length of back flow area and wake area of circle section is the minimum, and the length of backflow area and wake area of double square section is the maximum; the wake area of the long-tip square section has the smallest width while the square section has the largest width. In this paper, 25 characterized cross-section of submerged floating tunnel were introduced, and the drag coefficients, lift coefficients, added-mass coefficients, water damping, vertical force, horizontal force and bending moment of those sections were derived; the former four were by CFD method, the latter three by potential theory. Further study subjects were proposed such as the problem of "resistance" and "yield", cross-section comparison and critical parameter analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
