Pb10 –xEux(GeO4)2 +x(VO4)4 –x (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) Eu-substituted lead germanatovanadates with the apatite structure have been prepared by solid-state reactions, via firing in air in the temperature range 773–1073 K, using oxides (PbO, Eu2O3, GeO2, and V2O5) as starting materials. Using X-ray diffraction, we have determined the hexagonal cell parameters (sp. gr. P63/m) of the synthesized phases and refined their crystal structure (the atomic position coordinates, isotropic thermal parameters, and principal bond lengths in their structure are presented). We have measured the luminescence spectra of the Pb10 –xEux(GeO4)2 +x(VO4)4 –x (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) apatites and shown that europium concentration has little effect on the shape of the luminescence spectra. Using experimental heat capacity data obtained for polycrystalline samples by differential scanning calorimetry in the temperature range 350–1050 K, we calculated the main thermodynamic functions of the Eu-substituted lead germanatovanadates. The europium gallium germanate EuGaGe2O7 has been prepared by solid-state reaction in air in the temperature range 1273–1473 K using a stoichiometric mixture of Eu2O3, Ga2O3, and GeO2. Its crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction (sp. gr. P21/c, a = 7.1693(7) Å, b = 6.57008(6) Å, c = 12.7699(1) Å, β = 117.4522(5)°, V = 533.768(8) Å3). The [Ni(Bipy)3](Htba)2·6H2O (I) complex (Bipy is 2,2′-bipyridyl, H2tba is 2-thiobarbituric acid) is synthesized and its structure is determined by single crystal XRD (cif-file CCDC No. 1836529). The crystals of I are monoclinic: a = 13.6618(6) Å, b = 23.9441(9) Å, c = 25.4335(8) Å, β = 93.091(1)°, V = 8307.7(5), space group P21/c, Z = 8. Via multiple intermolecular N–H⋯O, O–H⋯O, and C–H⋯S hydrogen bonds (HBs), the Htba− ions and water molecules form channels within which [Ni(Bipy)3]2+ cations are located. The Bipy molecules and the Htba− ions are involved in C–H⋯O HBs and the π−π interaction. The results of the thermal analysis and IR spectroscopy agree with the single crystal XRD data. The oxidation process of samariumoxysulfide was studied in the temperature range of 500–1000 °C. Our DTA investigation allowed for establishing the main thermodynamic (∆Hºexp = −654.6 kJ/mol) and kinetic characteristics of the process (Ea = 244 kJ/mol, A = 2 × 1010). The enthalpy value of samarium oxysulfate (ΔHºf (Sm2O2SO4(monocl)) = −2294.0 kJ/mol) formation was calculated. The calculated process enthalpy value coincides with the value determined in the experiment. It was established that samarium oxysulfate crystallizes in the monoclinic symmetry class and its crystal structure belongs to space group C2/c with unit cell parameters a = 13.7442 (2), b = 4.20178 (4) and c = 8.16711 (8)Å, β = 107.224 (1)°, V = 450.498 (9)Å3, Z = 4. The main elements of the crystalline structure are obtained and the cation coordination environment is analyzed in detail. Vibrational spectroscopy methods confirmed the structural model adequacy. The Sm2O2SO4luminescence spectra exhibit three main bands easily assignable to the transitions from 4G5/2 state to 6H5/2, 6H7/2, and 6H9/2 multiplets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
