Abstract

The effects of birth weight, infant motor development and infant weight gain on adult physical performance in terms of aerobic fitness, muscular endurance, and muscular strength are studied. Results show that birth weight is positively related to aerobic fitness and muscle strength at age 31 years. The mediating role of adult body size is also analyzed.

Abstract

Doctors gave up hope that 4-year-old Joseph would walk. Yet doctors at the Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia developed a breathing and walking program that allowed Joseph's brain to grow to normal size. At age seven, the child is able to walk a 3-hour stint and shows signs of speech improvement.
