This study was designed to optimize the semen freezing protocol of the native Mediterranean brown trout inhabiting the Molise rivers through two experiments: an in vitro analysis of the effects of two basic extenders combined with three cryoprotectants on post-thaw semen quality; and an in vivo test to assess the fertilization and hatching rate. Semen was diluted at a ratio of 1:3 in a freezing medium composed of a glucose extender (A) or mineral extender (B). Each basic component contained 10% dimethylsulfoxide, dimethylacetamide or methanol. The post-semen quality was evaluated considering motility, duration of motility, viability and DNA integrity. The basic extender and cryoprotectant were shown to have significant effects on these variables, and the best results were obtained using extender A or B combined with dimethylsulfoxide (P < 0.05). These freezing protocols were selected for fertilization trials in vivo. Fertilization and hatching rates were significantly higher in fresh semen. No significant differences were observed in frozen semen using extender A or B, although higher percentages of eyed eggs and hatching rates were recorded using extender A. According to our in vitro and in vivo results, the glucose-based extender and dimethylsulfoxide emerged as the best combination for an effective cryopreservation protocol for semen of this trout.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of initial cooling time at 5°C during semen cryopreservation on post-thaw quality and reproductive performance of rabbit semen. Pooled semen samples (n = 6) were divided into two subsamples and cooled at 5°C for 45 or 90 min. After cooling, the semen samples were diluted to a ratio of 1:1 (v:v) with a freezing extender composed of Tris-citrate-glucose (TCG) containing 16% of dimethylsulfoxide and 0.1 mol/L sucrose. The semen was subsequently loaded in 0.25 ml straws, equilibrated at 5°C and frozen in liquid nitrogen vapor. After thawing, sperm motility, viability, osmotic resistance, acrosome and DNA integrity were assessed. Our results indicate that the longer cooling time, that is, 90 min before cryopreservation significantly improves sperm post-thaw viability, motility and fertility. In fact, reproductive performances obtained with semen frozen after a 90 min cooling time were similar to those produced by fresh semen insemination. Metabolic profile of fresh turkey spermatozoa at three different reproductive period ages, namely 32, 44 and 56 weeks, was monitored by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and correlated to sperm quality parameters. The age-related decrease in sperm quality as indicated by reduction of sperm concentration, sperm mobility and osmotic tolerance was associated to variation in the level of specific water-soluble and liposoluble metabolites. In particular, the highest levels of isoleucine, phenylalanine, leucine, tyrosine and valine were found at 32 weeks of age, whereas aspartate, lactate, creatine, carnitine, acetylcarnitine levels increased during the ageing. Lipid composition also changed during the ageing: diunsaturated fatty acids level increased from 32 to 56 weeks of age, whereas a reduction of polyunsaturated fatty acids content was observed at 56 weeks. The untargeted approach attempts to give a wider picture of metabolic changes occurring in ageing suggesting that the reduction of sperm quality could be due to a progressive deficiency in mitochondrial energy producing systems, as also prompted by the negative correlation found between sperm mobility and the increase in certain mitochondrial metabolites.

The aim of this study was to assess the combined effect of dimethylacetamide (DMA) and two non-permeating cryoprotective agents, trehalose and sucrose, on the quality of post-thaw chicken semen. Adult Lohmann roosters (n = 27) were used. Semen was processed according to the following treatments: Lake pre-freezing extender +6% DMA (LPF, control treatment), LPF + 0.1 M trehalose (LPF-T treatment), LPF + 0.1 M sucrose (LPF-S treatment) and LPF + 0.1 M trehalose + 0.1 M sucrose (LPF-TS treatment). Semen was loaded into straws and frozen in nitrogen vapour. Sperm quality (viability, mobility and kinetic parameters) was assessed immediately after thawing (T0) and at 5 (T5), 10 (T10) and 15 min (T15) thereafter. The different cryodiluent combinations significantly affected the kinetic parameters. The presence of trehalose, alone or with sucrose, combined with DMA improved the quality of motion in cryopreserved sperm in comparison to DMA alone (LPF) and DMA with sucrose (LPF-S). In particular, the highest values in linearity (LIN) and wobble (WOB) were measured in the treatment LPF-T. The treatments significantly affected the recovery rate of progressive motile sperm that presented the best value soon after thawing in the LPF-T treatment; moreover, the presence of trehalose, alone (LPF-T) or with sucrose (LPF-TS), significantly improved the recovery rate of progressive motile sperm also at T5 and T10 compared to LPF and LPF-S. The effects of post-thaw Helium-Neon (He-Ne) laser irradiation on mobility and functional integrity of frozen/thawed chicken, pheasant and turkey spermatozoa were investigated. Cytochrome C oxidase (COX) activity was also determined as a measure of the effect of irradiation on mitochondrial bioenergetics. Semen samples from each species were collected, processed and frozen according to the pellet procedure. After thawing, each semen sample was divided into two subsamples: the first one was the control; the second one was irradiated with a single mode continuous He-Ne laser wave (wavelength 632.8 nm; 6 mW; 3.96 J/cm(2)). Then the samples were assessed for sperm mobility (Accudenz(®) swim-down test), viability (SYBR-14/PI staining), osmotic-resistance (HOS test) and COX activity. The irradiation was effective P<0.05 increasing sperm motility in the turkey semen (0.228 ± 0.01 compared with 0.294 ± 0.02). The irradiation also caused an increase (P<0.05) of the COX activity in pheasant (+135 ± 4%) and turkey (+116 ± 4%) sperm, without affecting viability and osmotic-resistance. The COX was positively correlated (P<0.05) with the viability of chicken sperm, however no significant interactions were found between mobility and COX activity in the three avian species. Due to the difference in energetic metabolism among avian species used in this study, the He-Ne laser irradiation has a differential action on bio-stimulation of turkey, chicken and pheasant spermatozoa. Semen cryopreservation is fundamental both for the practice of artificial insemination, and for the conservation of genetic resources in cryobanks; nevertheless, there is still not an efficient standard freezing procedure assuring a steady and suitable level of fertility in fowl, and consequently there is no systematic use of frozen semen in the poultry industry. This study examined changes in motility (CASA), cell membrane integrity (Ethidium Bromide (EtBr) exclusion procedure and stress test) and DNA fragmentation (neutral comet assay) in fowl spermatozoa before, during and after cryopreservation and storage at -196 °C. An optimized comet assay for chicken semen was studied and applied to the analyses. Semen collected from 18 Mericanel della Brianza (local Italian breed) male chicken breeders was frozen in pellets and thawed in a water bath at 60 °C. Measurements were performed on fresh semen soon after dilution, after equilibration with 6% dimethylacetamide at 4 °C (processed semen) and after thawing. Sperm DNA damage occurred during cryopreservation of chicken semen and the proportion of spermatozoa with damaged DNA significantly increased from 6.2% in fresh and 6.4% in processed semen to 19.8% in frozen-thawed semen. The proportion of DNA in the comet tail of damaged spermatozoa was also significantly affected by cryopreservation, with an increase found from fresh (26.3%) to frozen-thawed (30.9%) sperm, whereas processed semen (30.1%) didn't show significant differences. The proportion of total membrane damaged spermatozoa (EtBr exclusion procedure) did not increase by 4 °C equilibration time, and greatly and significantly increased by cryopreservation; the values recorded in fresh, processed and frozen semen were 2.9, 5.6, and 66.7% respectively. As regards the proportion of damaged cells in the stress test, all values differed significantly (7.1% fresh semen, 11.7% processed semen, 63.7% frozen semen). Total motility was not affected by equilibration (52.1% fresh semen, 51.9% processed semen), whereas it decreased significantly after cryopreservation (19.8%). These results suggest a low sensitivity of frozen-thawed chicken spermatozoa to DNA fragmentation, therefore it should not be considered as a major cause of sperm injuries during cryopreservation., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier Inc. The study considered two major aims: (a) to measure the changes in quality parameters, lipid composition and antioxidant activity occurring in turkey spermatozoa during liquid storage; (b) to determine if the enrichment of sperm in n-3 fatty acids and alpha-tocopherol affect sperm survival during storage. Turkey breeders were fed a control diet or an Omega3 diet enriched with fish oil and alpha-tocopheryl-acetate. Ejaculates were pooled (5ejaculates/pool; 4pools/treatment) and stored in vitro for 48h at 4 degrees C. Viability, motility, susceptibility to induced peroxidation and alpha-tocopherol content were measured in spermatozoa; lipid and phospholipid fatty acid composition were measured in spermatozoa and seminal plasma. The proportion of motile and viable spermatozoa significantly decreased, and the proportion of dead spermatozoa significantly increased. The susceptibility of turkey spermatozoa to induced peroxidation also significantly increased during storage. The enrichment of turkey spermatozoa with n-3 long chain PUFA and vitamin E by dietary treatment did not prevent the negative effect of storage on sperm quality and sensitivity to induced in vitro peroxidation; however, it was efficient in partially prevent the increase of sperm death, therefore the proportion of dead spermatozoa was higher in control (37.4%) compared to treated spermatozoa (31.7%) after 48h liquid storage. Major changes were recorded in the lipid composition of turkey spermatozoa during liquid storage in both experimental dietary groups, whereas no significant changes were measured in seminal plasma. In spermatozoa, a great loss in the phospholipid and free cholesterol content was measured. Moreover, the loss in total sperm phospholipid was associated to a peculiar and selective decrease in the bounded fatty acids: saturates and monounsaturates were greatly reduced and polyunsaturates did not change. As a consequence, the polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acid ratio increased during 48h liquid storage. The observed changes in the lipid and phospholipid-bound fatty acid composition of turkey spermatozoa occurring during liquid storage might be related to different events and have been discussed.

The effects of fish oil (FO) and vitamin E (vE) dietary supplementation on semen quality, sperm susceptibility to lipid peroxidation, tocopherols content and fatty acid profiles were studied in rabbits. Fifty-two rabbit bucks randomly divided in four groups received a control diet and enriched diets containing either FO (1.5%, w/w), vE (200mg/kg) or both. Semen volume, concentration, motility and viability were analysed at various time-points and the lipid composition was assessed on sperm cells. The phospholipid fatty acid profile was determined: n-6 PUFA were the major fatty acids found, with a proportion of 42%, whereas the n-3 PUFA accounted for nearly 1%, mainly represented by C22:6n-3 (docosahexaenoic acid, DHA). FO supplementation produced a seven-fold increase in the content of DHA in sperm phospholipids and a comprehensive rearrangement of the phospholipid fatty acid composition, while an unexpected negative effect of feeding high level of vE on the proportion of total PUFA was found. Despite the remarkable changes observed in sperm lipid composition, semen quality parameters were not affected by the dietary treatments and the interaction between the two dietary supplements had a significant effect only on sperm concentration. An increase in semen production by ageing and a concomitant rise in sperm susceptibility to in vitro peroxidation was found. alpha- and delta-tocopherol, present in rabbit sperm in similar amount, were not affected by dietary treatment. delta-tocopherol content had a significant linear negative regression with age and showed a significant negative correlation with the susceptibility to peroxidation values.

The aim of the present experiment was to study the effect of fish oil and Vitamin E rich diets on semen production, sperm functions and composition in broiler breeders. The following parameters were measured: semen volume and concentration, sperm motility and viability, sperm susceptibility to induced peroxidation, sperm lipid and alpha-tocopherol contents. Dietary n-3 PUFA were successfully transferred into spermatozoan phospholipid by fish oil feeding according to the following main features: (a) the C22:6n-3 and C22:5n - 3 contents were increased, but C22:4n-6 remained the peculiar and major polyunsaturate; (b) the content and proportion of total PUFA did not change; (c) the proportional increase of n-3 PUFA was compensated by the decrease of n-6 PUFA, an increase in the proportion of n-9 fatty acids was also found. The sperm content of alpha-tocopherol was doubled increasing the dietary availability of the vitamin to 300 mg/kg of feed. The specific n-3 PUFA and Vitamin E enrichment of chicken sperm affected cell functions. Significant interactions between the two treatments were also found for some parameters. The best sperm quality condition in control sperm (rich mainly in n-6 PUFA) was found supplying 200mg Vitamin E/kg of feed to the male breeders, and in contrast in n-3 rich sperm supplying 300 mg Vitamin E/kg.

The aim of the present study was to characterize the dietary effects of n-3 LC-PUFA and alpha-tocopheryl acetate (vE) on the quality, phospholipid fatty acid composition, alpha-tocopherol content (alpha-T) and in vitro susceptibility to lipid peroxidation in turkey semen. Fertility of fresh semen was also evaluated. Male turkeys were randomly divided and fed either a control diet or a fish oil and vE rich diet (FO diet) from 40 to 60 weeks of age. The FO diet increased the proportion of n-3 fatty acids in spermatozoa and as a consequence the (n-3)/(n-6) ratio also increased. These changes did not affect the proportion of n-9 PUFAs, particularly of C22:3n-9, in semen. The sperm content of alpha-T was dependent by the dietary supplementation of the vitamin and the sperm content was more than doubled supplying 120 mg kg(-1) of feed to the males compared to the 60 mg kg(-1) of feed in the control diet. In agreement with the major content of alpha-T in spermatozoa collected from the FO group were significantly less susceptible to in vitro induced oxidation. The reproductive capacity of the male breeders was not affected by the diet; however the result is considered of some relevance for field conditions where even very small changes have economic interest being applied to large bird population.

Egg yolks are commonly used in diluents in order to improve the freezability of semen. Two aspects of the role of lipids in boar semen freezability are reported in this article. The first one concerns the eventual exchanges of lipid components between the spermatozoa and the yolk-based diluent during cryopreservation. Two types of yolk have been considered as ingredients in diluents for cryopreservation: yolks with a standard fatty acid composition and yolks enriched in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The relation between lipid exchanges and the quality of fresh semen is considered. The other aspect concerns the possibility to enhance the freezability of boar spermatozoa by altering the plasma membranes under the influence of dietary fatty acids. Spermatozoa were damaged significantly by the cryopreservation cycle in all experiments. Spermatozoa with the best fresh quality had accumulated the largest quantity of lipids upon thawing. A general decrease in the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids was observed after thawing. The yolks enriched in n-3 fatty acids failed to improve the quality of sperm following cryopreservation. The proportion of DHA was significantly higher in spermatozoan phospholipids from thawed cells that had been in contact with n-3 yolks. A significant reduction in cholesterol was observed in spermatozoa after the cryopreservation cycle, which correlated with an increased number of acrosome-reacted cells and changes in the parameters of motility. The addition of 3% fish oil to the daily boar ration significantly increased the content of DHA (from 33 to 45% of the total fatty acids) in the spermatozoa. Ejaculate concentrations were significantly increased in the experimental group. DHA-enriched semen did not show improved freezability, at least not as assessed by in vitro parameters.

The ethidium bromide (EtBr) exclusion procedure, a fluorometric method for measuring sperm cell viability, was studied to optimize the use of this technique on boar, rabbit and rooster semen. Diluted semen was used for boars and roosters. Diluted rabbit semen did not allow for reliable fluorescence readings; the interference of granules characteristic of rabbit seminal plasma was suggested as its cause. Therefore, rabbit semen was washed on several Percoll and Optiprep density gradients, with the aim of removing the granules from the sperm suspension. The complete absence of granules was not obtained, however, the best result was provided by the 35/70% Percoll density gradient. Most spermatozoa formed a loose pellet with low contamination. Although the washing procedure resulted in a selective action, Percoll washed semen was used to assess the EtBr procedure. The fluorescence intensities of stained fresh and stained digitonin-permeabilized samples were corrected, respectively, for the nonspecific fluorescence measures of fresh and digitonin-permeabilized samples both unstained. The contribution of the dye was subtracted from the corrected values, then the ratio between the corrected values of fresh and permeabilized cells provided the proportion of damaged cells in the sample. The working cell concentration range giving a constant proportion of damaged cells was set using diluted semen for boars and roosters (8-32 x 10(6) cell/ml) and Percoll washed semen for rabbits (4-16 x 10(6) cell/ml). The reliability of the fluorometric method was compared with the traditional nigrosin-eosin (NE) staining technique. The intactness of sperm samples containing known proportions of fresh and killed cells was measured in defined working cell ranges. For boars and roosters the values determined by fluorometry agreed closely with those determined using the NE method.

The effect of cryopreservation on boar sperm viability, motility, lipid content and antioxidant enzymatic activities was studied. Three classes of semen were determined according to a cluster analysis on the basis of the proportion of live and dead cells after freezing and thawing. The classes identified were: high (H, n = 4), average (A, n = 12) and low (L, n = 3) viability. The concentration of sperm cells decreased from class H to A to L. Fresh semen samples with higher viability and a higher proportion of motile cells also maintained better quality after the freezing and thawing procedure. Sperm viability and motility in both fresh and thawed samples were similar in classes H and A, while significantly lower values were measured in class L. The relative decrease in sperm viability and motility after cryopreservation increased from class H to A to L. The lipid content of spermatozoa (micrograms per 10(9) cells) increased significantly after freezing and thawing in classes H and A but not in class L. This result indicated that active sperm lipid metabolism might be responsible for the increase in lipid content. Phospholipid and triacylglycerol contents increased whereas free cholesterol content decreased after thawing. The fatty acid composition of fresh spermatozoa was similar in all three classes. The proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids decreased significantly after freezing and thawing, indicating contamination from the diluent or peroxidation. After freezing and thawing, superoxide dismutase activity in spermatozoa was significantly higher in class L than in classes H and A, which did not differ from each other.

Changes in the proportions of the various lipid components in spermatozoa were investigated throughout the reproductive period (24-72 wk of age) of male chickens. Sperm motility and in vivo fertility were also measured, and correlation coefficients with the lipid values were determined. The proportion of total phospholipid (PL) increased to reach a maximum value at 39 wk and decreased significantly thereafter. The relative content of free cholesterol and triacylglycerols showed no change in spermatozoa during aging or in relation to fertility values; free fatty acids and cholesterol esters increased continuously with age. Of the various PL classes, phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine displayed a pattern of changes with age positively and negatively, respectively, in relation to the changes of fertility. The proportion of phosphatidylethanolamine had significantly decreased by the end of the reproductive period. The proportions of C16:0, C18:0, and C18:1n-9 within the PL of the spermatozoa increased with age, and those of C20:4n-6, C22:4n-6, and C22:6n-3 decreased. Positive correlations were found between fertility and total PLs, phosphatidylserine, and PL-bound C20:4n-6 and C22:4n-6; a negative correlation was found between fertility and phosphatidylcholine. Motility was positively correlated with the level of PL and negatively with that of free cholesterol; it was also positively correlated with the levels of C22:4n-6 and C22:6n-3 and negatively with those of C16:0, C18:0, and C18:1n-9. The results suggest that the lipid and fatty acid compositions of spermatozoa may be important predictors of fertility.

This study represents an attempt at the dietary manipulation of the fatty acid composition of chicken spermatozoa in order to enhance the levels of n-3 polyunsaturates at the expense of the n-6 fatty acids, which normally predominate in the lipids of avian semen. Male chickens were provided with either a control diet supplemented with maize oil or the test diet supplemented with fish oil (Tuna Orbital Oil) from 10 weeks of age. Semen samples were collected from the birds after 30 and 48 weeks of supplementation. The fish oil diet induced a significant but limited increase in the proportion of 22:6n-3 in the spermatozoan phospholipid in parallel with an equivalent decrease in the proportions of 20:4n-6 and 22:4n-6. However, since the maximal level of 22:6n-3 in the phospholipid that was achieved by fish oil feeding was less than 10% (wt/wt of fatty acids), these changes fell far short of representing a switch from the typical avian pattern to that more characteristic of the n-3 enriched mammalian semen. Analysis of the fatty acid compositions of the constituent classes of phospholipid in the spermatozoa indicated that, in both dietary states, the phosphatidylethanolamine fraction contained much greater proportions of n-6 and n-3 C20-22 polyunsaturates than the phosphatidylcholine fraction. The results indicate that the typical fatty acid profile of the spermatozoa of domesticated poultry, characterised by the predominance of C20-22 n-6 polyunsaturates, displays a considerable degree of resistance to manipulation by dietary means and does not adopt the "mammalian" type of profile following supplementation with n-3 fatty acids.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of supplementing the diet of the male chicken with alpha-linolenic acid (18:3n-3) on the phospholipid fatty acid composition, motility and fertilizing ability of chicken spermatozoa. The birds in the control group received a diet supplemented with soybean oil rich in linoleic acid (18:2n-6) whereas those in the test group were supplemented with linseed oil rich in alpha-linolenic acid. A number of age-related changes in the lipid parameters of the spermatozoa were observed in control birds. Between 24 and 72 weeks of age the amount of total lipid in the spermatozoa of control birds increased by approximately 2.4 times and the proportions of cholesterol and free fatty acid also increased significantly, whereas the proportions of phospholipid and triacylglycerol decreased. In addition, the proportion of phosphatidylcholine in the total phospholipid increased, whereas the proportion of phosphatidylserine decreased during the same period. The proportion of docosatetraenoic acid (22:4n-6) in the phospholipid decreased significantly between 24 and 72 weeks of age. The concentration of spermatozoa in the semen of control birds increased to a maximum at week 39 and had decreased significantly by week 72. Supplementation with alpha-linolenic acid had little or no effect on the proportion of docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3) in the phospholipid profile of the spermatozoa. However, supplementation with alpha-linolenic acid did produce a significant but small increase in the proportion of docosapentaenoic acid (22:5n-3) recorded at 39 and 54 weeks. Thus, this study shows that the fatty acid composition of the sperm phospholipid demonstrates a marked resistance to dietary manipulation. Supplementation with alpha-linolenic acid significantly enhanced semen fertility at week 39. The results suggest that the small increase in the proportion of n-3 fatty acids in the sperm phospholipids induced by enriching the diet with alpha-linolenic acid is associated with a significant improvement in semen quality at 39 weeks of age.

Aim of this study was the development of an optimised cryopreservation pellet procedure for chicken semen and the assessment of DNA and membrane integrity in frozen/thawed spermatozoa in a Hubbard F15 meat type selected strain. 2. The following semen processing conditions were studied: spermatozoa working concentration (SWC), 1.5vs2 × 109cells/ml in pre-freezing extender; equilibration of diluted semen at 5°C, 20vs40 min; dimethylacetamide concentration, 6%vs9%; dimethylacetamide equilibration time at 5°C, 1vs30 min; thawing at 60°C for 10vs50°C for 30 sec. Spermatozoa viability (EtBr exclusion procedure – stress test), mobility (Accudenz® swim-down test) and subjective motility were assessed in fresh and frozen-thawed semen. 3. The lower SWC (1.5 × 109cells/ml) and the higher dimethylacetamide concentration (9%) had positive significant effects on the recovery rate of motile (22%vs16%) and viable spermatozoa (39vs34%), respectively. 4.Membrane (SYBR14-PI staining) and DNA integrity (comet assay) were assessed before and after freezing/thawing according to the optimised protocol. 5. Recovery rates of spermatozoa with undamaged plasma membrane and DNA were 41% and 76%, respectively. The distribution of spermatozoa in classes of DNA damage was also analysed and discussed. 6. It was concluded that pellet cryopreservation was a damaging process mainly for plasma membrane rather than nuclear DNA in chicken spermatozoa. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The major polyunsaturate in phospholipids of chicken spermatozoa is docosatetraenoic acid, 22:4n-6, which is positively correlatable with sperm motility and fertility. The potential for dietary manipulation of sperm fatty acid in order to improve male fertility has been extensively studied in the chicken. The effects of diets enriched in n-3 and n-6 long chain polyunsaturates have been investigated in different trials using different oil sources and levels of oil inclusion.The 22:6n-3 and 22:5n-3 content of avian spermatozoa is increased by supplementing the feed with fish oil (rich in 22:6n-3) and linseed oil (rich in 18:3n-3) respectively. The effects of these fatty acid manipulations on sperm quality and/or fertility are reviewed. Both n-3 and n-6 rich diets showed a positive effect on sperm movement during the reproductive period and an age-dependent positive effect on fertility. Reported effects of n-6 rich diets on semen production have been variable with 20:4n-6 rich diet having a positive effect on semen volume and thus on total sperm number and 18:3n-6 rich diets having a negative effect on semen concentration. Spermatozoa enriched in 22:5n-3, or 22:6n-3 or 22:4n-6 result in significantly higher fertility values following artificial insemination compared to control spermatozoa; however, such a positive effect is age dependent and observed at 37 to 42 weeks, but not in older birds.The n-6 fatty acid composition of chicken spermatozoa is recognised as a specie-specific characteristic. The fundamental relation between dietary lipid, spermatozoa fatty acid composition and thus sperm quality and fertility can be seen as having a potential commercial application.
