Summary: This article is a systematic review of the Spanish scientific production in social work hosted in the Web of Science. Findings: The article analyzes the current state of social work research in Spain. Since the creation of the European Higher Education Area, Spanish social work has had to meet university research requirements, including the publication of papers in journals indexed in the world's leading databases. Spanish scientific production is analyzed from its beginnings until 2020. The main findings were that most of such research that was published by Spanish social work academic was in Spanish, while other categories of authors, such as nonsocial work Spanish academic, publish more in English. Spanish-language journals were mostly indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), while those in English were in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) or Scopus, consistently receiving few citations. Women as main authors exceeded men in percentages of indexed articles. Bibliometric quality measures constructed with Scopus were slightly better than those with JCR. The most developed topics in the area were general and transversal issues such as immigration, social services, social intervention, and social policies. Applications: The study demonstrates to Spanish social work researchers that they have greater likelihood of obtaining better quality indexes if they publish in English in JCR- and Scopus-indexed journals, resulting in enhanced academic career visibility. This paper aims to analyse the impact of Covid-19 on women professionals in social services in Spain and to determine which variables may have affected them to a greater or lesser extent. The consequences of the pandemic are not gender-neutral, so it is particularly relevant to know the perspective of this highly feminised professional group, which continued to carry out its essential activity during the hardest moments of the pandemic. For this purpose, a sample of 466 women professionals in the sector was obtained in fieldwork carried out between 1 and 19 April 2020. The results showed that social workers perceived great difficulty in continuing to carry out their functions in this context, as well as a notorious affectation both personally and professionally, with the youngest, those with the least seniority in the organisation and those with dependent children being the most affected in some of the different aspects analysed. The efforts made by the Autonomous Communities and local authorities to finance these protection systems, and the consequent effect that this has had on social expenditure items, are two constants that appear in research on the subject. In this work, the focus has been on the economic benefits of community social services in Andalusia, to relate them to other economic benefits of other social protection systems and to observe the behaviour of all of them during the period of economic crisis. The increase in recipients and social expenditure on these economic benefits contradicts what is happening in absolute terms and, Clearly, it highlights a system that has had to go out and address situations of familial economic deprivation at the time of the Great Economic Depression., Universidad Pablo de Olavide

QUALITY of work life ,SOCIAL services ,WORK environment ,PROFESSIONS ,FACTOR analysis ,SELF-efficacy ,PSYCHOSOCIAL factors - Abstract
This article analyzes the characteristics of psychosocial factors that affect social service professionals in their workplaces. Engagement, passion for work, organizational commitment, structural empowerment and burnout are examined, factors that, according to the literature, are closely related to outcomes for social services professionals. These psychosocial variables and their relationships are analyzed using a sample of 501 Spanish professionals through a quantitative research. Information that addressed the study objectives was collected via a questionnaire that was administered individually, voluntarily, and anonymously. The data were analyzed using Stata software and by calculating descriptive statistics and performing bivariate correlations, t-tests for independent samples, and ANOVAS. The obtained data allowed us to establish a psychosocial profile of professionals in which medium–high scores were notable for most of the positive psychosocial variables analyzed. In contrast, lower scores for variables related to negative aspects are observed, such as burnout and obsessive passion, which could indicate an opportunity to develop strategies to enhance these positive aspects. For future research, regression analysis could be considered to calculate the predictive value of some psychosocial variables over others as well as their mediating or moderating roles. This article contains an analysis of the local community social services resources made available to families that are responsible for minors and experiencing difficulties. The first aim of the article is to study the main characteristics of these actions and particularly those of a psychoeducational nature. The second aim is to relate the intervention resources and basic areas of social services to their recipients. Based on an essentially quantitative methodology, the main results concern the homogeneity of actions throughout the province of Huelva and the need for referral in order to access these actions in the majority of cases. Also of note is the importance of psychoeducational interventions, which together with economics resources are implemented to a greater degree in comparison with other actions. The main conclusions include a need for comprehensive action in financial, inter-relational and psychosocial contexts, the importance of evaluations that lead to evidence-based interventions, and the key role of the local intervention context in the creation of social policies that are more immediate, and hence more real and efficient.

During the state of alarm declared in Spain by COVID-19 due to the pandemic, the country's authorities declared Social Services and their workers to be essential, considering that the activity of these professionals with the vulnerable population was crucial and that services should continue to be provided to guarantee the well-being of users in this exceptionally serious situation. This article analyzes the impact that the COVID-19 and the state of alarm has had on Spanish social service professionals. An ad hoc questionnaire was used, administered on-line, individually, voluntarily and anonymously to 560 professionals working in social services, both in the public and private sectors, based throughout Spain. This questionnaire has five different parts: socio-demographic profiling, impact that the health crisis has had on the practice of professional functions, degree of knowledge of the measures imposed to guarantee the protection and safety of professionals and users, impact that it has had on the professional and personal development of social services professionals and, the fifth and last part, degree of adaptation of the measures aimed at the care of the vulnerable population. These results are discussed based on the situation in which professionals working in this sector find themselves in the face of the changes they are experiencing in the development of their work, and we are able to determine the profile of the workers who have felt most affected by the situation, with the consequent and foreseeable mental and emotional affectation that this implies. These professionals tend to value more negatively the set of measures developed to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on Spanish social services. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The family institution is a key aspect of the welfare regimes of southern Europe, a crisis-affected situation in which social workers play an important role. This paper analyzes the statements of social workers regarding professional intervention and the families with whom they work within the Spanish context, which involves a strong economic crisis and the reduction of public policies. A relational and qualitative study was conducted of 15 professional perceptions of cutbacks, family demands, the profiles of the user families, and the privatization of social services. In addition, proposals for improvement and challenges are analyzed. The main results involve the relationships among dwindling resources, increasing family demands and family dependence on the system, the disadvantages of privatization, excessive bureaucratization, and adverse labor conditions. The main conclusions include the inadequacy of public policies to meet the needs of at-risk families in a crisis context. About future, the research on professional decision making and professional intervention models will be studied in greater depth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Immigration, with nearly one out of ten interventions, is the fourth highest value in the distribution of total users in absolute terms, according to the andalusian municipalities ahead of the traditional groups such as youth, women and drug addicts. This new reality has led to a readjustment in the type of average user and the needs presented. Objective. To find out which are the training needs in relation to the management of cultural diversity in the public system of social services. Method. A survey was developed starting from the professional's basic demographic data in which were asked about: intercultural contact (type and intensity of relations with immigrants, language knowledge and use of them in interventions), intercultural competence, intercultural sensitivity and a set of practical cases in which was made an attempt to relate the theoretical and practical knowledge. Results. The results show that there is a daily contact between professionals and immigrants but basically related to work activities. We have notice also a high level of self-ascribed competence and intercultural sensitivity. Conclusions. The results obtained on selfperceived level of competence and cultural sensitivity are not related to data of the practical cases, so there is a mismatch between what is known in theory and what is done in interventions with immigrants. This observation leads us to ask whether social services respond adequately to the new realities and needs., Antecedentes.

Despite the economic crisis, Spain is still a country with a large presence of foreign population, which requires the adjustment and adaptation of public services social services among them to this reality. Our objective is to understand and analyse the Intercultural Sensitivity levels of social workers in public social services in Andalusia (Spain), and relate them to elements of intercultural competence. Participants include 298 professionals from Andalusian community social services; 163 were social workers, on which this study focused. We have used the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (IS) in the context of a larger survey that measured other aspects such as the degree of intercultural contact and intercultural competence through different means. We analyse correlations between the dimensions of the IS and other variables, associations and comparisons of means(Student's t-test and ANOVA) for the whole sample and different variables considering only social workers. The data obtained show high SI, with significant differences related to previous training on cultural diversity, age and relationships with foreign people. The level of knowledge about diversity management in the surveyed population is very relevant, as well as training and relationships with immigrants. However, we think it is necessary to strengthen both training and interaction to advance the implementation of theoretical contents on the practice and interaction that take place in professional intervention. This study examines social services delivery in Andalusia, Spain, to determine the degree of cultural adaptation of its workers, given the important migratory flows taking place in the region during recent years. This study investigates the main characteristics of those workers with a high level of intercultural sensitivity (IS) and their cultural competences. The survey included 298 professionals with a validated IS scale along with questions related to the degree of intercultural contact and competence. A series of scales for the IS levels was created, and correlation analyses were carried out depending on the variables used. Results revealed high levels of self-attributed cultural competence and training as well as low levels of awareness and motivation for intercultural encounters. Theoretical knowledge appeared to be the only aspect in correlation with all dimensions of IS. Important deficits have been also observed when examining the type and intensity of contact among professionals and people of foreign origin. This highlights the need to transform knowledge in culturally adapted responses. Future research is necessary to deepen knowledge on how these aspects affect professional interventions. This article reflects part of the results obtained from a wider research project aimed at the elaboration of a “Map of Good Intercultural Practices” in several areas of social intervention in Andalusia, Spain. It also reports the results obtained from the analysis portion related to the participating projects within the social services. Intercultural assessment was conducted at the level of institutional intervention through a 32-item questionnaire that was sent to 139 intercultural project-leading institutions measuring intercultural sensitivity. A definition of the fundamental concepts of “interculturality” and “good practice” is given to support the foundations of “good intercultural practice” (GIP). Such definitions help in the design and validation of a GIP Scale that was used in the analysis of 60 social services projects with an intercultural component. The results obtained underline the relevance of aspects such as intercultural empathy and show significant differences between the social services and other intervention sectors. Future research is proposed that studies GIP scale in other intervention sectors such as the private and public sector. Also, the transferability of the instruments and methodology used makes it possible that the research presented in this article is conducted in other geographical areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The state of alarm caused by Covid-19 has mobilised the population's digital social participation in social networks. Likewise, the relevance acquired by Social Services as a support for the social and health crisis has generated an unprecedented social debate on Twitter about the reality of these services in Spain. The analysis of this phenomenon is the focus of the present article, in which the tweets on Social Services and Covid-19 published during the confinement have been analysed using the qualitative analysis software Atlas.Ti. The results show the precariousness of social services and that a change in the management and financing model of these services is required to guarantee benefits and satisfy fundamental social rights. The doctoral thesis "Occupational health in social work professionals" aims to approach the issue of quality of working life in social workers by studying a series of psychosocial variables that affect their professional performance, and is considered as a starting point for developing strategies that will lead to a significant improvement in their working conditions. In the midst of this doctoral thesis, a new line of work had to be adapted and incorporated to reflect the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the social services system and its professionals from March 2020, during a period when they had to deal rapidly with numerous changes in their organisations, especially with the need to incorporate teleworking in many organisations. Thus, the general objectives of this doctoral thesis were: to evaluate some of the psychosocial variables engagement, burnout, passion for work, organisational commitment and structural empowerment, and the relationship between them, in a sample of workers in the field of social intervention (social workers, educators, psychologists, etc.) (Article 1). Second: To assess these same psychosocial variables and their relationships, but in a sample specifically composed of social workers (Article 2). And thirdly, and as a result of the situation arising from the pandemic: to analyse the impact and profile of social services professionals who teleworked during the pandemic (Article 3). For Article 1, the sample consisted of 488 social workers (social workers, social educators, psychologists, etc.). For Article 2, the sample was extended to 501 professionals, all of whom were social workers. In both cases, the criterion was that the participants had been working in the same job and in the same organisation for at least one year. In the case of Article 3, a sample of 560 social service professionals was obtained. The data from the questionnaires were analysed using SPSS 22, also incorporating the use of STATA in some of the analyses. One-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-tests for independent samples and correlation analysis were carried out by calculating Pearson's coefficient according to the scale of measurement of the variables. When statistically significant differences were found in the ANOVA test, Scheffé's post hoc test was applied to identify which pairs of means differed significantly. Pearson's correlation calculations were also performed between some of the variables. The results obtained show high average levels of both engagement and burnout both in the sample of various social professionals and in the sample of social workers only, although the latter appear somewhat less burnt out in their jobs compared to the former. There are also high levels of both harmonious passion and structural empowerment in both samples, and a mainly affective organisational commitment, although in this respect the social workers have a higher level of calculated commitment. For their part, it has been shown how the Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected the efficiency of the way of working in social services, which was almost entirely face-to-face work, finding that people who adapted to teleworking perceived that their tasks had been more affected by the state of alarm, but in turn, people who made use of teleworking rated it more positively than those who did not make use of this medium.

This reality must be addressed under intercultural paradigm, overcoming assimilationist and ethnocentric vision, which demands that public services, and their professionals, are able to offer effective and appropriate responses to the needs arising from this cultural diversity. This study focuses on the social services community, crucial for many foreign people in their social integration process, and a field not studied in this sense, against the health or education where the issue of interculturalism has been more studied. The dissertation is done by compendium of publications, with three papers, with a first paper about good intercultural practices in services and social intervention projects in Andalusia, and two papers related with the project “Analysis of the Training Needs in Andalusian Social Services in Relation to the Management of Diversity”. The main aim has been to determine the level of intercultural competence of professionals in these services, after a first approximation at the institutional level for the evaluation of projects and services under the logic of Good Intercultural Practice, and continuing with research in interculturality initiated by the research team. As secondary objectives, we have tried to know the levels of intercultural sensitivity, aspects of intervention, skills related to intercultural competence and answers to practical cases. Another aim has been to discover the associations between variables and the existence of differences based on personal and professional issues. Participants include 139 projects using sampling for accessibility, and 298 professionals of the basic equipments of the Andalusian community social services, using stratified sampling with proportional affixation according to jobs. The instruments have been questionnaires composed of scales. There have been analysis of contingency, associations, correlations and mean comparisons (t-test and ANOVA). The results have been shown a high intercultural competence and sensitivity of professionals, emphasizing respect for differences, involvement, knowledge and intercultural skills. In aspects of intervention positively stand out the management skills of the diversity and negatively not be aware of their own biases and prejudices. These adequate levels of competence are not associated with respond adequately to the assumptions. On the other hand, specific diversity training and contact with people different cultural backgrounds, are differentiating variables affect intercultural sensitivity and intervention aspects, and intercultural competence for social workers. At the level of projects, have been relevant issues such as the need to consider the socio-political and ethical issues from an intercultural approach. For this reason, the proposals are aimed at promoting specific training in diversity management and cross-cultural professional development. There is this training in the workplace, and also into the university degrees of these professions. The development of spaces for meeting and contact-building is also recommended. This study has opened the door to future research and the continuity of the study of intercultural competence in other fields, and the qualitative approach of the aspects studied, so we have started the work of in-depth interviews, with a logic compared between different European countries.
