Degradation of insulation paper is a key contributor to the failure of power transformers. Insulation degradation accelerates at elevated temperatures, which highlights the potential for better thermal management to prolong life. While several studies have analyzed the benefits of high thermal conductivity oil for reducing temperatures inside a transformer, this study is an initial assessment of the benefits of high thermal conductivity paper on transformer life. Blending particulates with cellulosic fibers offers a pathway for high thermal conductivity paper (with good dielectric properties), which can reduce internal temperatures. Presently, life extensions that can be achieved by the use of such thermally conducting papers were estimated, with the thermal conductivity of the paper being the key parameter under study. The analytical-numerical thermal model used in this study was validated against experimental measurements in a distribution transformer, adding confidence to the utility of the model. This model was then used to provide estimates of hot-spot temperature reduction resulting from the use of papers with higher thermal conductivity than baseline. Transformer life was predicted conventionally by tracking the degree of polymerization of paper over time, based on an Arrhenius model. Results indicate that increasing the thermal conductivity of paper from 0.2 W/mK (baseline) to 1 W/mK reduces the hot spot temperature by 10 °C. While degradation significantly depends on the moisture and oxygen content, the model shows that such a temperature reduction can increase life for all conditions, by as much as a factor of three.

This research provides an in-depth assessment of two paper yarn variants, examining their structural, functional, and performance characteristics. These yarns demonstrated favorable properties, including suitable linear density, twist, typical cellulosic functional groups as confirmed by Infrared spectroscopy, minimal hairiness, moisture transfer, and creditable mechanical strength. These yarns have flat layered cross-sections and grooved longitudinal surfaces. In addition, a low hairiness index (1.3–1.33) further acknowledged their smooth surface. Their remarkable evenness (15.86% and 7.08%) supported their effective wicking properties. Despite average breaking strength (0.77 cN/dTex and 1.05 cN/dTex) and moderate elongation, these yarns exhibited exceptional water-washing resistance and retained over 89% breaking strength after 15 washes. This study ranks these paper yarns as highly suitable for durable clothing fabrics, providing promising sustainable alternatives in the textile industry.

There is a growing need for easy-to-use, low cost and portable quantitative assays to determine active pharmaceutical ingredients in the pharmaceutical industry. Here, we developed a batch spectrophotometric method and a method employing a paper-based microfluidic device for the estimation of Amoxicillin (AMX) in pure solution and pharmaceutical preparations. The detection depends on the coupling reaction of Amoxicillin with diazotized sulfadimidine (DSDM) in an alkaline medium. The yellow azo dye reaction product was measured at λmax 425 nm and linearity was observed from 2 to 30 mg L−1 with a detection limit of 0.32 mg L−1 and a quantification limit of 1.2 mg L−1 was found. The reaction was then transferred onto the paper-based microfluidic device and a plateau change in color intensity was found above 10 mg L−1. Thus, the paper-based microfluidic device can be applied for the semi-quantitative determination of Amoxicillin in pure solution and commercial pharmaceutical products for rapid screening.

The objective of this work is to produce an ecologically friendly material for use in Ivory Coast's construction sector in the future. These materials should have good thermal qualities and be flame resistant in addition to helping to achieve interior comfort. The fundamental components under consideration are freely accessible in Ivory Coast and include clay mortar as a fire retardant, potato starch as a binder, and recycled paper granules as a filler. The suggested ecologically friendly material's manufacturing process is fully described in detail. After conditioning, the team created multiple samples, taking into account that each test that the materials are put through requires various probe sizes for the thermal conductivity test, the reaction to fire test, and the flexural strength test. The best result regarding thermal conductivity of composites was obtained when 10 % clay is added in the mixture, namely between 0.057 … 0.068 W/(mK). During the ignitability tests the flame did not propagate to a height greater than 15 cm throughout the 60 s test time, so it can be concluded that the materials match minimally in the class E of reaction to fire. The flexural strength of tested materials was under 0.8 MPa.

Wireless devices have become extremely inexpensive and popular in recent years. The two most significant advantages of wireless devices over wired ones are convenience and flexibility. Considering this, a wireless mouse pad prototype for access has been developed in this study. A capacitive sensors-based mouse pad with basic operations and conventional features has been developed using sensing arrays on paper. A facile, do-it-yourself fabrication process was utilized to develop a cost-effective, thin, wearable, and cleanroom-free wireless mouse cursor control (MCC) pad. The ablation process was used to cut the traces of conductive tape and paste them onto the paper to develop the MCC pad. The pad was connected with Espressif Systems (ESP)32 to wirelessly control the cursor of mobile and laptop. The capacitive touch sensor array-based pad is easy to reproduce and recycle. This pad can contribute to future advancements in thin human-machine interfaces, soft robotics, and medical and healthcare applications.

The subject of this paper is a linguistic stylistic analysis of the functional value of stylistic re-registration in the novel Paper Dragons by Mira Otašević (2008). The aim of the research is to indicate the influence of stylistic re-registration in the creation of a hybrid genre form, in which a documentary-fictional novel is formed through the technique of literary collage. The effects and consequences of re-registration in the work are examined through the adaptation of non-literary functional styles, sub-styles, and genres to the aesthetic function of the literary-artistic text, as well as through the influence of intertextuality. By applying the criteria of integral stylistics, the paper sheds light on the functional value of the polyvalent structure of the novel, where the hybridization of literary language has a stylistic value of reviving and maintaining the culture of memory.

This study aimed to produce bacterial cellulose from paper waste sludge (PWS) as a method of utilizing the cellulose source from the remaining pulp in the material. Initially, PWS was hydrolyzed by sulfuric acid to create an enriched-reducing sugar hydrolysate. One-factor experiments were conducted with a fixed amount of PWS (5 g) to investigate the influence of hydrolysis conditions, including water, sulfuric acid addition, temperature, and retention time, on the production yield of reducing sugars. Based on these results, the Box-Behnken model was designed to optimize the hydrolysis reaction. The optimal hydrolysis conditions were 10 ml/g of the sulfuric acid solution (30.9%) at 105.5 °C for 90 min of retention time 0.81 (gGE/g PWS), corresponding to a conversion yield of 40.5%). Subsequently, 100 ml of the filtered and neutralized PWS hydrolysate was used as the culture to produce the bacterial cellulose (BC) using Acetobacter xylinum, which produced 12 g/L of bacterial cellulose. The conversion yield of bacterial cellulose calculated as the ratio of the weight of produced bacterial cellulose to that of cellulose in PWS reached 33.3%. The structure of the obtained BC was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to indicate the formation of nano-cellulose fiber networks. This research proposed a combined method to convert paper waste sludge into bacterial cellulose, demonstrating the potential for waste utilization and sustainable production of paper industries for added-value products.

The disposal of paper mill sludge waste generated by the paper industry is a tough and challenging task. In this work, an attempt is made to develop various value-added products namely bricks, briquettes, ground chakra base, and eco-friendly composites from the secondary paper mill sludge (PMS). The secondary PMS was initially dewatered to remove the moisture content, ground to powder, and mixed with cement, MSand. quarry dust, and fly ash to produce bricks. The brick specimens were tested for compressive strength, water absorption, and efflorescence as per the standards and found to be 5.29 ± 0.11 N/mm2, 3.84 ± 0.13% respectively, and have NIL efflorescence. The PMS is mixed with paraffin wax and compressed in a squeeze moulding to form briquettes and observed that the percentage of ash content in the briquette is 66.6% which is less than that of the PMS. Further, a ground chakra base is produced using a slurry of starch and dried in a heater at 60° exhibiting better properties. An eco-friendly composite pottery product was developed by mixing PMS, clay, and starch and tested for breakage.

The objective of this study was to investigate the morphological and chemical properties of hemp bast RPF1 variety fiber to be used as a potential raw material for filter paper production.Experimental handsheet samples with basis weight of 20 g/m2 were manufactured using mixture of hemp and softwood pulp at various beating levels. The average fiber length and width of hemp bast fiber were determined as 5.76 mm and 32.53 μm, respectively. It was also found that the hemp bast fiber had rigid thick cell wall with small size of lumen. The overall chemical properties of hemp bast were similar to those fibers from other bast sources as well as softwood fibers. It seems that hemp bast was easily pulped under various soda process conditions yielding pulp ranging from 51.36 % to 52.56 % and Kappa numbers ranging from 2.89 to 8.18. Based on the findings in this study hemp bast fiber could be considered as a potential to manufacture filter paper with accepted characteristics.

In recent years, due to the increase in their global popularity, short video applications have become an important topic of research. The number of users has now exceeded one billion in China; accordingly, Chinese researchers have conducted many studies on short videos. Their findings can serve as important references for both theoretical research on and the practical development of short videos worldwide. In this study, we used bibliometrics method and the CiteSpace application to analyze the content of 2163 representative research papers on short videos published in China from 2012 to 2022. The number of such papers is increasing annually in China; moreover, several core groups of authors and research institutions focusing on short video research have already been formed. Some popular topics of research on these videos include the main characteristics of short videos, phenomenon of media convergence based on short videos, and application scenarios of short videos. Over the years, research on the popular short video application Douyin has been increasing, as well. The research results indicate that issues such as the marketing of short knowledge videos, standardized management of short video platforms, and impact of these videos on the education of college students are expected to become popular subjects of scholarly research in the near future.

A novel Coumarin-based 1,2-pyrazole, HCPyTSC is synthesised and characterized. The chemosensor has been shown to have efficient colourimetric and fluorescence sensing capabilities for the quick and selective detection of fluoride and copper ions. At 376 and 430 nm, the HCPyTSC exhibits selective sensing for Cu2+ and F− ions. By examining the natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis and the potential energy curve (PES) of the ground state for the function of the C–H bond, it has been determined from the theoretical study at hand that the deprotonation was taken from the ‘CH’ proton of the pyrazole ring. For F− and Cu2+, the HCPyTSC detection limits were 4.62 nM and 15.36 nM, respectively. Similarly, the binding constants (Kb) for F− and Cu2+ ions in acetonitrile medium were found to be 2.06 × 105 M−1 and 1.88 × 105 M−1. Chemosensor HCPyTSC with and without F− and Cu2+ ions have an emission and absorption response that can imitate a variety of logic gates, including the AND, XOR, and OR gates. Additionally, a paper-based sensor strip with the HCPyTSC was created for use in practical, flexible F− sensing applications. The paper-based sensor was more effective in detecting F− than other anions. The effectiveness of HCPyTSC for the selective detection of F− in living cells as well as its cell permeability were examined using live-cell imaging in T24 cells.

Objectives: The primary objective was to evaluate the ECG trace paper evaluation current knowledge level in a group of Orthopaedic surgeons divided into juniors and seniors according to M.D. degree possession. Methods: A cross sectional study through self-administered questionnaires at a university hospital Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Department. The questionnaire included five sections: 1-Basic participants' characteristics, 2-Participants' perception of their ECG evaluation current knowledge level, 3-The main body of the questionnaire was an ECG quiz (seven); the participant was asked to determine if it was normal and the possible diagnosis, 4-Participants' desired ECG evaluation knowledge level, and 5-Willingness to attend ECG evaluation workshops. Results: Of the 121 actively working individuals in the department, 96 (97.3 %) finished the questionnaire, and 85 (77.3 %) were valid for final evaluation. The participants' mean age was 30.4 ± 6.92 years, 76.5 % juniors and 23.5 % seniors. 83.5 % of the participants perceived their current ECG evaluation knowledge as none or limited. For participants' ability to evaluate an ECG, higher scores were achieved when determining if the ECG was normal or abnormal, with a mean score percentage of 79.32 % ± 23.27. However, the scores were lower when trying to reach the diagnosis, with a mean score percentage of 43.02 % ± 27.48. There was a significant negative correlation between the participant's age and answering the normality question correctly (r = −0.277, p = 0.01); and a significant positive correlation between answering the diagnosis question correctly and the desired level of knowledge and the intention to attend a workshop about ECG evaluation, r = 0.355 (p = 0.001), and r = 0.223 (p = 0.04), respectively. Only 56.5 % of the participants desired to get more knowledge, and 81.2 % were interested in attending ECG evaluation workshops. Conclusion: Orthopaedic surgeons showed sufficient knowledge when determining the normality of ECG trace papers; however, they could not reach the proper diagnosis, and Junior surgeons performed slightly better than their senior peers. Most surgeons are willing to attend ECG evaluation and interpretation workshops to improve their knowledge level.

Lignocellulosic materials are widely used for food packaging due to their renewable and biodegradable nature. However, their porous and absorptive properties can lead to the uptake and retention of bacteria during food processing, transportation, and storage, which pose a potential risk for outbreaks of foodborne disease. Thus, it is of great importance to understand how bacteria proliferate and survive on lignocellulosic surfaces. The aim of this research was to compare the growth and survivability of Salmonella Typhimurium and Listeria innocua on bleached and unbleached paper packaging materials. Two different paper materials were fabricated to simulate linerboard from fully bleached and unbleached market pulps and inoculated with each bacterium at high bacterial loads (107 CFU). The bacteria propagated during the first 48 h of incubation and persisted at very high levels (>107 CFU/cm2) for 40 days for all paper and bacterium types. However, the unbleached paper allowed for a greater degree of bacterial growth to occur compared to bleached paper, suspected to be due to the more hydrophobic nature of the unbleached, lignin-containing fibers. Several other considerations may also alter the behavior of bacteria on lignocellulosic materials, such as storage conditions, nutrient availability, and chemical composition of the fibers.

In order to investigate the difference of volatile substances among flavored cigarette paper, which are supplied by several manufacturers with different batches, the stability of the complex system of scented cigarette paper was analyzed and evaluated. In this study, Headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) was used to detect the aroma compounds of 23 flavored cigarette paper samples. Based on fingerprint analysis, the differences and changes of aroma compounds of different samples were studied in the form of data visualization. Principal component analysis, partial least squares regression analysis, cluster heatmap analysis and artificial neural network analysis were used to evaluate the stability of different cigarette paper. The results show that: A total of 29 volatile substances were identified from different scented cigarette paper. Fingerprint analysis revealed that the volatile substances of different cigarette paper samples were roughly the same, but not the content. The results of chemometrics analysis showed that there were significant differences in the characteristic aroma compounds of cigarette paper from different manufacturers. HS-GC-IMS technology combined with chemometrics method could be applied to determine the difference of volatile substances among different flavored cigarette paper, which theoretically and technically supported the quality stability maintenance and identification of flavored cigarette paper processed in different places.

Background: Organisational change is an important part of development and growth. Transitioning from paper-based hospital records to electronic health records improves efficiency and patient safety by streamlining data access and reducing the risk of errors, ultimately leading to enhanced patient care and outcomes. In October 2020, a large NHS trust underwent the transition from paper notes to a fully electronic health records system. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to monitor staff morale during this organisational change; to highlight any issues arising that may impact on the smooth transition; to encourage feedback. Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to all members of the maxillofacial outpatients department on a regular basis. The qualitative responses were analysed using NVivo, following a framework analysis model. Results: The analysis generated 1319 codes, which were placed into 68 groups. The three main themes were ‘Transformational Advancements in Healthcare Delivery’; ‘Obstacles to Seamless EHR Integration; ‘Navigating the Transition and Evolving Perceptions’. Discussion: Regular monitoring of morale and staff opinion allows for smoother transition in a large-scale organisational change. The results of this project will help future hospitals and trusts undergoing similar transitions.

Paper recycling is a viable option for wastepaper management. This study assessed the suitability of recycled papers as a food packaging material. Permanence and durability of three different recycled papers; R1:150 GSM, R2:120 GSM, and R3:100 GSM with aging were evaluated using standard methods. Eventhough opacity increased with aging grammage, burst strength, tensile strength, pH, brightness, and whiteness decreased. Recycled papers failed water absorptiveness test even before aging. Presence of heavy metals in recycled papers were compared with food packaging standards and migration of heavy metals from the packaging to different food types was assessed. Presence of Cu, Zn, Mn, Cr, Cd and Pb were below EC and EPA standards but only Pb and Cd exceeded the EU standard. Migration of Cu, Zn, Mn and Cr were within EPA, EU and EC standards except Pb and Cd with respect to EC standard. Highest migration is associated with foods contain more fatty acids; fast food, sausages and pizza.

We investigate how simple physical interactions can generate remarkable diversity in the life history of social agents using data of social wasps, yielding complex scalable task partitioning. We built and analyzed a computational model to investigate how diverse task allocation patterns found in nature can emerge from the same behavioral blueprint. Self-organizing mechanisms of interwoven behavioral feedback loops, task-dependent time delays and simple material flows between interacting individuals yield an emergent homeostatic self-regulation while keeping the global colony performance scalable. Task allocation mechanisms based on implicitly honest signaling via material flows are not only very robust but are also highly evolvable due to their simplicity and reliability. We find that task partitioning has evolved to be scalable and adaptable to life history traits, such as expected colony size or temporal bottlenecks in the available workforce or materials. By tuning solely the total number of agents and a social connectivity-related parameter in the model, our simulations yield the whole range of emergent patterns in task allocation and task fidelity akin to observed field data. Our model suggests that the material exchange (“common stomach mechanism”) found in many paper wasps provides a common functional “core” across these genera, which not only provides self-regulation of the colony, but also provides a scalable mechanism allowing natural selection to yield complex social integration in larger colonies over the course of their evolutionary trajectory.

Este artigo visa apresentar como os veículos de mídia brasileiros apareceram na cobertura dos principais jornais e agências de notícias internacionais que trabalharam no país durante os anos do Regime Militar (1964-1985). Com este trabalho historiográfico, a pesquisa apresentada permite que se ampliem estudos sobre: as distinções entre os métodos de censura aplicados a veículos nacionais e internacionais; o decorrer das mudanças nas políticas externas brasileiras e estadunidenses ao longo dos 21 anos de ditadura, refletidas no jornalismo transnacional; a evolução midiática nacional e sua influência política, considerando as alterações no modelo jornalístico, outorgadas pela realidade da Guerra Fria. Este artigo ambiciona uma proposta interdisciplinar e transnacional para o objeto oferecido.

Since the reserves of natural renewable resources are being inexorably diminished, the utilization of the recoverable waste in new area is gaining global attention day by day. Besides, as the cost of raw materials constitutes the majority of a production cost, the usage of undesirable but inevitable processing waste in the manufacturing process provides a considerable advantage to the manufacturers. Herein, it has been attempted to exploit unusable cotton spinning mill waste (filter waste derived from humidification plant) to convert it into paper. Handsheets of 70 g/m2 and 80 g/m2 were successfully produced from 100% cotton waste, 100% bleached cotton waste, and blends of bleached cotton waste with bleached hardwood kraft pulp (HWKP) (HWKP is typically used to produce commercial-grade papers). Morphologies and mechanical properties of handsheets were thoroughly investigated by whiteness index, brightness%, breaking length, tear index, bursting index, FTIR spectroscopy, optical microscope, and scanning electron microscope. Based on detailed observations, it is summarized that the produced handsheets, depending on the chemical treatment and blend ratio with HWKP, possess variations in appearances and properties that will have a wide range of potential applications from newsprint, tissue paper to commercial-grade writing and printing papers.

A series of laboratory studies were undertaken in Gondar to explore the effects of temperature, air mass flow rate, heating rate, and residence duration on cud and waste paper char yields in slow pyrolysis. Cud and waste paper were burned at a low pyrolysis temperature to generate biochar (167 °C). The rate of decomposition depends on the feedstock and the process conditions. The biochar yield is mostly governed by the applied regulated temperature and airflow rate, according to the data. During the experiment, the main airflow rate delays the pyrolysis process.The temperature rises when both the primary and secondary air inlets open at the same time, resulting in lesser biochar output. The experiment was carried out at a slow pyrolysis temperature of 167 °C, with 15% biomass moisture, 60% humidity, and a 0.35–1.5 kg/s air mass flow rate. At this temperature, 30 kg of feedstock, cup, and paper in the reactor generate 10 kg–23kg and 10–20 kg of biochar, respectively, at a 0.35 m/s airflow rate. As the airflow rate increases within the restricted values, a temperature gradient appears and tends to increase. However, as the pyrolysis temperature and airflow rate rise, the biochar yield decreases.

With the continuous progress of society, tests, and exams appear more and more frequently in people's lives. Faced with the ever-increasing demand for test papers, efficient test paper generation algorithms have become more important. In this paper, we improved and proposed a Diseased Enhanced Genetic Algorithm (DEGA) based on the Genetic Algorithm (GA), and applied it to the test paper generation algorithm. I the crossover operator, the crossover probability that will change in different situations of the population is adopted. According to the characteristics of the test paper generation algorithm, we use the method based on the hamming distance to calculate the distance between individuals in the population. Aiming at the shortcoming that the mutation operator is too random, we designed and used a disease operator that includes three modules: natural disease, infection, and mutation. It effectively guarantees the distance between individuals in the population and improves the shortcoming that GA is easy to fall into a locally optimal solution. Finally, using the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) questions from 2014 to 2021 as the data set, comparative experiments were carried out on the test paper generation algorithm based on Random Sampling Algorithm (RSA), GA, Enhanced Genetic Algorithm (EGA) and DEGA. The results show that when using the test paper generation algorithm based on DEGA, the generation of test papers is faster, the number of iterations is less, and the algorithm results are significantly better than other algorithms.

The growing demand for tissue papers worldwide encourages the paper industry to find new approaches to optimize the raw materials furnish management, and simultaneously to improve tissue paper performance. Softness, strength, and absorption are the key tissue properties that enhance the attention of both industry and consumers. Fiber morphology, fiber modification process steps, and structural properties affect these functional properties, and, therefore, the efforts to evaluate them and establish the relationship or models that describe them constitute a multifactorial challenge. For this purpose, we aimed to investigate the trade-off between the input variables (morphological, suspension, and structural properties) and the final properties. Key variables like the type of furnish raw materials, including the fiber mixture, mechanical and enzymatic treatments, additives incorporation, and the type of industrial base tissue papers were taken under consideration. To achieve these relationships, we used different data-driven modeling approaches including multiple linear regression (MLR), artificial neural networks (ANN), and a 3D fiber-based simulator. The MLR and ANN models were built by data collected from an experimental design, and isotropic laboratory structures were prepared and tested for changes in structural and functional properties. Moreover, a 3D fiber-based simulator was used to investigate the influence of fibers on structural properties. These results indicated that the realistic predictions enabled us to link fiber and tissue structure characteristics. In conclusion, this work has revealed that this computational modeling approach can be used to model the effect of fiber pulps parameters with final end-use tissue properties, allowing to design innovative tissue products.

This study aims to examine the construction of the war between Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the central government, as well as its actors, in the local newspaper Bekur. Both a theoretical framework and a research methodology have been developed around critical discourse analysis (CDA). Methods for data analysis include Hodge's war discourse components and Van Dijk's ideological square. The findings indicate that Bekur constructed the war between TPLF forces and the central government as a war of existence. The stories portrayed the war in Ethiopia as a conflict between “country savers” and “dismantlers.” Furthermore, the TPLF forces—the out-group—are portrayed as country destabilizers, while the central government is portrayed as the country's saviour. The newspaper also represented the PM as central to winning the battle. Lastly, the positive representation of us, the in-group, and the negative representation of them, the out-group, in the newspaper seem to blatantly support the continuation of unequal power relations among those involved in the war in Ethiopia.

Fluorescence is well-known nowadays as one of the most efficient anti-counterfeiting techniques. Zinc oxide quantum dots (ZnOQds) are exceptionally fluorescence when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, which makes them a candidate for anti-counterfeiting printing. The resulting anti-counterfeiting papers are sustainable and resistance against organic dyes. In this work, ZnOQds were prepared via a green method and characterized under UV–visible spectroscopy, along with microscopic observations by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and crystallography by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Formation of ZnOQds nanocrystals with an average partials size of 7.3 nm was approved. Additionally, double-layers sheets were prepared at two loading concentrations of ZnOQds, namely 0.5 and 1 (wt./v) and underwent characterization using a topographical surface study via field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Hybrid sheets were mechanically more stable compared to single-layer paper and likewise polymer film. Moreover, aging simulation approved a high stability for hybrid sheets. Particularly, the photoluminescence emission affirmed anti-aging character of hybrid paper for more than 25 years. The hybrid sheets also showed a broad range of antimicrobial activity.

Background: Two common techniques used in canteen hygiene supervision, are the coliform paper assay, which is the standard method, and the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioluminescence method. The coliform paper assay requires the incubation of the sample, which is time-consuming and does not provide a real-time assessment. Meanwhile, the ATP bioluminescence assay can provide real-time kitchenware cleanliness data. Objective: This study aimed to compare these two methods for evaluating the sanitary condition of kitchenware and explore whether the ATP bioluminescence assay can be used as a standard method in sanitary inspection. Methods: In this study, the cluster random sampling method was used to sample kitchenware from six canteens in the Hebei province, China. Samples were, assessed through the coliform paper test and ATP bioluminescence assay. Results: Kitchenware negative rates for the coliform paper method and the ATP test were 64.39% and 49.07%, respectively. The Escherichia coli positive detection rate grew steadily as the relative light units (RLU) value for the ATP technique increased. The kappa coefficient for the two methods was 0.549, indicating that the two methods yield relatively consistent results. Conclusion: Although currently not considered a standard method, simply using ATP detection is advantageous for quick on-site detection in catering unit hygiene supervision.

The social contact rate has influenced the transmission of COVID-19, with more social contact resulting in more contagion cases. We chose 18 countries with the most confirmed cases in the first 200 days after the Wuhan lockdown. This was the first study using the dynamic social contact rate to simulate the epidemic under diverse restriction policies over 500 days since the COVID-19 outbreak. The developed General Dynamic Model suggested that the probability of contagion ranged from 12.52% to 39.39% in the epidemic. The geometric mean of the social contact rates differed from 18.21% to 96.00% between countries. The restriction policies in developed economies were 3.5 times more efficient than in developing economies. We compare the effectiveness of different policies for disease prevention and discuss the influence of policy adjustment frequency for each country. Maintaining the tightest restriction or alternate tightening and loosening restrictions was recommended, with each having an average 72.45% and 79.78% reduction in maximum active cases, respectively.

The research process of authoring a review paper constitutes a uniquely important context for interrogating tacit premises and presuppositions, especially when the review aspires to synthesize a methodologically diverse field of research. This article presents a reflexive recounting of a research experience with mixed methods team-based review paper authorship, showing how the function of a review paper may be differently conceptualized by scholars situated in methodological traditions that place their emphasis on drawing-together knowledge about the social world versus those situated in methodological traditions whose primary aim is to unpack accepted categories. The analysis thus offers insights into dimensions of methodological difference as they operate in practice, while underscoring the significance of reflexivity in the review paper context for purposes of advancing meaningfully inclusive maps of an intellectual community’s self-understanding(s).

In 2021, there are reportedly 2,755 billionaires on Earth, with an estimated total net worth of $13.1 trillion. Every year the newspaper Forbes conducts the list of World Billionaires, but we need to acknowledge that, not all billionaires and their wealth gets reported. Usually, the net worth is reported by calculating the number of stocks with the number of shares that the person owns. We take into consideration that the number we see in the newspaper exists only on paper, but the amount of money in the bank account of Billionaire does, not reflect that kind of wealth in any shape and form. Paper wealth differs from “real” or actual wealth, which is the value of the physical assets that are at the disposal of an individual or company. Many individuals and corporations fall victim to the paper wealth trap. On paper, it looks as though the assets logged are worth a certain amount, but the real assets in hand do not add up to the same. In order to assess, the real wealth individual has to realize the asset in the market by selling the asset mentioned below. If the taxpayer sells these assets, it has accumulated capital gains, then the taxpayer is subject to capital gains taxes. By using the tax planning strategy “Buy, Borrow, and Die” the wealthy individual avoids paying the capital gain tax on the assets that they have. This principle suggests buying and holding assets as they appreciate tax-free, as well borrow using the assets as leverage and using debt to reduce or eliminate income and estate taxes, and maximize aftertax wealth accumulation, as well after the taxpayer pass away the heirs, sell the whole wealth is tax-free, and the debt is paid with the tax-free proceeds.

Highly cited papers are among the most commonly used indicators for measuring scientific excellence. The primary purpose of this study is to determine characteristics of highly cited papers authored or co-authored by Croatian researchers and to identify patterns of their national and cross-national collaboration. The Clarivate Analytics Web of Science Core Collection was used for collecting data. Data were filtered for the highly cited papers published in the 2008-2018 period. Half of 428 identified highly cited papers were published in only 18 journals. The distribution across subject areas showed a strong domination of the fields of physics and clinical medicine. The median number of authors per average paper was 30,5, while the same value in the case of Croatian authors was 2. Only 4% of the analysed papers were authored by Croatian researchers only. The national inter-institutional collaboration was marginal and mainly visible through joined collaboration with foreign institutions. European institutions are most frequently found among the authors' addresses. For a small country on the scientific periphery, international cooperation is a prerequisite not only for the publication of highly cited papers but also for acquiring additional research experience in mainstream scientific teams.

The one-dose package is useful for patients who are prescribed multiple medications. However, the one-dose packaging of hygroscopic medications is difficult because the quality of the medication is reduced by moisture absorption. Cellophane polyethylene laminating paper at 20 μm or 30 μm thickness and glassine papers are widely used for one-dose packaging. The basic characteristics, such as water permeability, of these packaging papers have been demonstrated by companies; however, the quality changes of hygroscopic medications stored in these packaging papers are poorly understood. In this study, we compared the relative humidity in packaging papers and the qualities of the stored hygroscopic medications among 20 μm and 30 μm thick cellophane polyethylene laminating paper and glassine paper. Glucobay® 50 mg, Magmitt® 330 mg, and Phosblock® 250 mg tablets were used as hygroscopic medications to be packaged and the relative humidity, weight change, and hardness of tablets were measured. The relative humidity decreased in the order of glassine paper, 20 μm thick cellophane polyethylene laminating paper, and 30 μm thick cellophane polyethylene laminating paper. Additionally, tablets inside the 30 μm thick cellophane polyethylene laminating paper gained the least weight. Therefore, tablets in a 30 μm thick polyethylene laminating paper absorb less moisture than those in other papers. However, the effect was less pronounced at high temperature, even if the relative humidity remained the same. We expect that the results will be used by hospitals and clinical pharmacies to understand the characteristics of packaging papers and ensure appropriate usage.

The paper presents the results of the next stage of a comprehensive study concerning Russian state-legal doctrines in the 19th and early 20th centuries, taken in the triune of the external form of their expression: in dissertations, in monographs and in scientific papers of the periodical legal press. The authors analyzed the content and results of publication of monographs and the most famous papers published by pre-revolutionary Russian political scientists on key aspects of the state (constitutional) law science. Data are presented on the main priority areas of research, poorly developed fields of public law science, the laws of genesis and evolution, respectively, of monographic and periodical state-legal doctrines. The methodology proposed for the identification, analysis and general theoretical evaluation of state-legal doctrines has every reason to be applied for obtaining comprehensive knowledge of other branch pre-revolutionary legal doctrines.

The article reports on the validation of a computer-assisted language learning (CALL) attitude questionnaire and discusses differences between online and paper modes of administration, drawing on a sample of 1,769 Vietnamese undergraduates. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to explore and assess the factor structure of the CALL instrument and specify the equivalence between the two versions of the questionnaire. Rasch model analysis was used to evaluate the overall fit and construct uni-dimensionality of the instrument. The findings of the study suggested a six-factor structure for the adapted questionnaire as well as both reliability and validity in the Vietnamese context. No significant difference was found between the two modes of administration as regards the construct and item levels of the questionnaire, although the paper-version was superior to the online version according to results from the Rasch model analysis. Hence, the instrument can be used in online and paper modes to measure Vietnamese tertiary students’ attitudes to the integration of technology into language learning. The study finds that further research is called for if the two modes of administration of the questionnaire are used in other contexts for teaching English as a foreign language (EFL).

The present study analyzes the offshoring network constructed from the information contained in the Panama Papers, characterizing worldwide regions and countries as well as their intra- and inter-relationships. The Panama Papers 2016 divulgence is the largest leak of offshoring and tax avoidance documentation. The document leak, with a volume content of approximately 2.6 terabytes, involves more than two hundred thousand enterprises in more than two hundred countries. From this information, the offshore connections of individuals and companies are constructed and aggregated using their countries of origin. The top offshore financial regions and countries of the network are identified, and their intra- and inter-relationship are mapped and described. We are able to identify the top countries in the offshoring network and characterize their connectivity structure, discovering the more prominent actors in the worldwide offshoring scenario and their range of influence.

Background: Pressure injury has always been a focus and difficulty of nursing. With the development of nursing informatization, a large amount of structured and unstructured data has been generated, and it is difficult for traditional methods to utilize these data. With the intersection of artificial intelligence and nursing, it has become a new trend to apply machine learning algorithms to build pressure injury prediction models to manage pressure injuries. However, there is no evidence on the effectiveness of the method and which of a large number of algorithms for machine learning is more applicable to pressure injuries. Objective: This review aims to systematically synthesize existing evidence to determine the effectiveness of applying machine learning algorithms for pressure injury management, to further evaluate and compare pressure injury prediction models constructed by numerous machine learning algorithms, and to derive evidence for the best algorithms for predicting and managing pressure injuries. Design: Systematic review and network meta-analysis. Methods: A systematic electronic search was conducted in the EBSCO, Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science databases. We included all retrospective diagnostic accuracy trials and prospective diagnostic accuracy trials constructing a predictive model by machine learning for pressure injuries up to December 2021. Two review authors independently selected relevant studies and extracted data using the Cochrane handbook for systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy. The network meta-analysis was conducted using statistical software R and STATA. The certainty of the evidence was rated using the QUADAS-2 tool. Result: Twenty-five clinical diagnostic trials with a total of 237397 participants were identified in this review. The results of our study revealed that pressure injury machine learning models can effectively predict these injuries. Combining the algorithms separately yields the main results: decision trees (sensitivity: 0.66, 95% CI: 0.42 to 0.84, specificity: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.78 to 0.96, diagnostic odds ratio [DOR]: 18, 95% CI: 7 to 49, AUC: 0.88, 95% CI: 0.85 to 0.91), logistic regression (sensitivity: 0.71, 95% CI: 0.60 to 0.80, specificity: 0.83, 95% CI: 0.75 to 0.89, DOR: 12, 95% CI: 9 to 17, AUC: 0.84, 95% CI: 0.81 to 0.87), neural networks (sensitivity: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.55 to 0.86, specificity: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.65 to 0.87, DOR: 9, 95% CI: 5 to 19, AUC: 0.82, 95% CI: 0.79 to 0.85), random forests (sensitivity: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.26 to 0.95, specificity: 0.96, 95% CI: 0.80 to 0.99, DOR: 56, 95% CI: 3 to 1258, AUC: 0.95, 95% CI: 0.93 to 0.97), support vector machines (sensitivity: 0.81, 95% CI: 0.69 to 0.90, specificity: 0.81, 95% CI: 0.59 to 0.93, DOR: 19, 95% CI: 6 to 54, AUC: 0.88, 95% CI: 0.85 to 0.90). According to the analysis of ROC and AUC values, random forest is the best algorithm for the prediction model of pressure injury. Conclusions: This review revealed that machine learning algorithms are generally effective in predicting pressure injuries, and after data merging, the random forest algorithm is the best algorithm for pressure injury prediction. Further well-designed diagnostic controlled trials are recommended to strengthen the current evidence. Registration number (PROSPERO): CRD42021276993.

One of the most profitable forms of criminal activity is the forgery of works of art, where huge profits are earned on auctions and on the black art market. In private collections, galleries and museums, there is certainly a large number of undiscovered forged artworks whose authenticity is to be determined. Much of the authentication process does not belong to forensics, because art historians and art connoisseurs most often made conclusions about authenticity. Later examinations found that 40% of the works of art were of questionable authenticity; which points to the need for a scientific analysis of works of art, and that the forensic approach to authentication is replaced by experts or experts in the history of art. The need for expertise of documents and works of art on paper usually occurs when the content, origin or presentation of the circumstances under which the work is made constitutes a serious suspicion of its authenticity. The expertise of works of art on paper represent a criminal and judicial examination of works of art where paper is used for the substrate, and in the works of art there are watercolors, pastels, graphic prints, drawings (pencil, ink wash paint, ink), maps and plans, and many other combined techniques. The scientific study of art works on paper uses tools from very simple to state-of-the-art analytical instruments which provide detailed and accurate information about work of art on paper. The scientific study of works of art on paper shares common objectives with the technical studies of any work of art. Artifacts are examined in order to answer art historical questions about the origin of a work, namely, where, when, and by whom a work was created. The main components that make up an artwork on paper are paper (paper substrate), pigments and colors, various types of inks, and other materials used to create an artwork (such as charcoal, pens, various media, combined techniques, etc.). The expert must have the necessary knowledge of the components that make up an artwork on paper; to know the types of paper, to differentiate painting techniques; to know perfectly about the components from that make up the work of art (composition, types of production and types of paper, composition and types of pigments, composition and types of inks, tools used for workmanship, etc.). First, simple methods are used, such as the detailed study of the components of the painting (identification of paper, paint, ink, pigment, etc.). Subsequently, physical non-destructive methods are used that do not impair the tested material: use of different types of microscopes (stereo microscope, polarization microscope, fluorescence microscopy); magnifying glasses; types of invisible rays (ultraviolet rays, infrared rays, X-rays), neutron activation analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis, Raman spectroscopy, and investigative photography. Destructive methods damage the material being analyzed. Destructive methods include chemical analysis, chromatography (Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Thin-Layer Chromatography), electrophoresis, infrared spectrophotometry, etc. These methods are highly avoided and are used only in extreme as ultimate necessity, in the case where the results obtained previously are unsatisfactory and with insufficient information. Each of these methods has a different working principle and gives us different information about the subject being analyzed, and the expert must have a basic knowledge of chemistry in order to understand the working principle of these analyzes and to know what kind of information they provide.

Many young adults on the autism spectrum do not attain the recommended minimum weekly amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) to prevent significant health risks. Autism symptoms as well as environmental factors may play a key role in the physical activity (PA) behaviors of young adults on the autism spectrum. The socioecological model (SEM) has been previously used to identify determinants of PA among people within many disability categories. Aims: Explore the overall relationship between determinants of PA of MVPA among parents and their young adult child with ASD as well as MVPA determinants segmented by caregiver level of support. Methods: 336 parents of adult children with ASD completed the Determinants of Physical Activity and Eating Behaviors for Young Adults with ASD Scale. Results: Children's weekly time spent in MVPA was predicted by parent self-reported MVPA, exercise competency, video game use, social skills, and neighborhood qualities. Parent weekly time spent in MVPA was predicted by their child's weekly MVPA, parent exercise competency, parent discretionary time, available home exercise equipment, and parent attitude towards physical activity. Conclusion: These results support the administration of quality community-based motor development, motor skills, and exercise skills programs focused on increasing physical activity and parent's influential role in their children's weekly MVPA.

Background: Children with a developmental disability (DD) are more likely to develop behavioral problems. The Stepping Stones Triple P Positive Parenting Program (SSTP) for parents of children with a DD has demonstrated effectiveness for improving parenting practices and reducing child behavior problems. However, there is scant research in Asian countries and with less intensive SSTP interventions. Aim: This study examined the effectiveness of the SSTP seminars for Korean parents of a child with a DD. Methods: Parents were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 21) or a delayed intervention group (n = 17). Data was collected on child adjustment problems, parenting practices, parental adjustment, and family relationships from both groups at pre- and post-intervention, and from the intervention group at 4-month follow-up. Twelve parents provided post-intervention interview data. Results: A series of one-way Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) were used to examine differences between the intervention and delayed intervention groups at post-intervention. Significant short-term intervention effects were found for reductions in child behavior and emotional difficulties, and dysfunctional parenting practices. These improvements were maintained 4-months later by the intervention group. At post-intervention, inter-parental child-rearing conflict was reduced as a trend, with a moderate effect size. Interviews provided additional insights into the benefits gained from program participation. Conclusions: Findings, for parents within this study, contribute to the evidence base for the effectiveness of the SSTP seminars.

Background: The perception of a disorder could be of importance both in problem solving behaviors, and in the emotional approach towards a disorder. Aims: In this paper, we wanted to assess changes in illness perception in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) over a four-year interval, to compare parental and self-ratings, and to assess illness perceptions according to co-occurring medical and psychiatric disorders. Methods: Parents in a cohort of children with CP (N = 36), filled in the Illness Perception Questionnaire at age seven and again at age eleven, and self-reports were gathered at age eleven. Stability across time, informant differences and scores according to motor function, intellectual disability and the prevalence of psychiatric disorders were assessed. Results: We found stable parental perceptions across a four –year interval. Parents reported significantly higher impact of CP on the child, than that reported by the child itself. In children with a more severe motor disability and/or co-occurring psychiatric disorders, parents reported significantly higher median scores for perceived impact of the CP condition on symptoms, duration of the condition, and impact on leisure activities, compared to those who had less severe motor disability and/or intellectual abilities within the normal range. Conclusions: We propose that illness perception should be included in the follow-up of children with CP, as it may provide a mutual understanding between the child/family and professionals involved in follow-up services, with possible impact on treatment adherence and outcome of the condition.

A incidência de indústrias papeleiras na região de Três Lagoas, a partir de 2009, trouxe uma série de compromissos e consequências aos assentados da reforma agrária. Com a oferta de isenções fiscais ilimitadas, financiamento público via BNDES e outros programas e projetos de fomento industrial, as indústrias se estabeleceram e iniciaram os processos para duplicação de suas plantas industriais. Já, os assentados ficam à mercê, pois, não têm condições de obter acesso a investimentos, nem a financiamentos dos bancos públicos e demais agências de fomento. Nessa perspectiva, a única fonte de financiamento da produção agrícola familiar acaba sendo as próprias papeleiras, por meio de seus planos e programas de desenvolvimento sustentável (PDS). Apenas no assentamento onde se desenvolveu a empiria há 181 lotes, mas, menos de 20 foram beneficiados pelos financiamentos. Nesse sentido, a forma e o modelo de financiamento, a velocidade e o volume de recursos aportados ficam à discricionariedade absoluta e exclusiva das próprias papeleiras, o que repercute social e economicamente entre os assentados, criando como que uma zona de aprisio-namento dos assentados às papeleiras, aqui denominadas cativeiros de papel

Background: Adults with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) have problems to be actively involved in essential life activities that affect their health. The aim of this study was to explore the utility of goal attainment scaling (GAS) in evaluating an intervention for adults with PIMD, and to describe how the GAS goals were set according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) domains of body function as well as activity and participation. Method: As part of an aquatic intervention (Structured water dance), 28 adults with PIMD received GAS goals which were adapted to their individual needs and which the intervention could affect. Result: Twenty of the goals were formulated within the ICF Activity/Participation domain and eight within the Body Functions domains. On average, participants improved by 1.25 levels on the five-level GAS scales. Conclusion: GAS can be a useful tool for setting and evaluating individualized and meaningful goals, in body functions as well as in activity and participation, related to a healthpromoting activity for adults with PIMD.

Academic reading, a form of active reading, often involves interaction with the text. Highlighting and annotating are some of the most common strategies of interacting with academic texts, yet we have limited understanding of exactly how such interactions affect reading comprehension in digital versus analog reading environments. In this paper, we present an exploratory study, comparing how university students (n = 50) interact with a digital and a physical text, focusing on highlights and annotations. We compare reading time, interaction with, and subsequent memory of the texts. We make nine observations about reading time, highlighting and annotation frequency and memory scores between paper and laptop. We find that students annotate significantly less on laptop than on paper, but that neither highlighting nor annotations influence subsequent memory of the text in either condition. Our broader contribution is to augment understanding of how different interaction features aid academic reading in a natural environment.

Background: A deficit in Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN), acknowledged to be linked to dyslexia, has rarely been investigated as a potential explanation of the reading difficulties that children with intellectual disability (ID) often face. The existing studies mainly focused on adolescent or adults with ID matched to typically developing (TD) children on verbal mental age, or used a single RAN task. Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the RAN pattern and skills of children with ID and low reading skills to the ones of TD children with matched reading skills. Method: 30 children with mild to moderate ID with mixed etiology (M = 9.4 years-old) were pair-matched to 30 TD children (M = 4.3 years-old) on phonological awareness- and reading-level. They were all administered color, object, finger, and vowel RAN tasks. Outcomes and results: Results showed that children with ID had more domain-specific RAN skills and were largely slower in most of the RAN tasks than their younger TD peers. Conclusions and implications: This suggests that a deficit in RAN should be added to the explanations of their frequent reading difficulties, which might open new remediation possibilities.
