Creative cities are known as places for innovation and the growth of creativity, and in fact, the creative city is a favourable environment for training human creativity and attracting the creative class, providing an appropriate foundation for educating its residents' creativity. The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which Tehran's neighbourhoods have the characteristics of a creative city. The descriptive-analytical research method was used for this purpose. Documents are used to collect data in four dimensions: quality of life, human capital, social capital, and innovation. The statistical population of the study was the 22 districts of Tehran, and the research indicators included 28 indicators of the creative city in the form of 7 general dimensions. The data analysis method used was quantitative–qualitative. Using the multi-indicator ELECTRE-II method for ranking areas based on creative city indicators, districts 1 and 6 in Tehran are ranked first, and districts 17, 16, 10, and 9 are ranked last in terms of creativity. Finally, Tehran has the potential to become a creative city, but this requires the removal of existing flaws and obstacles, as well as well-codified and legal planning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Laurentian Great Lakes region in North America is experiencing climate-driven disturbances that threaten the public safety of the region and is forcing communities to respond. Communities vary in their ability to respond to these disturbances based on their existing capacities and access to resources, but responses in the region are uneven and create vulnerabilities to disasters. A virtual workshop was conducted to understand the community responses to climate-driven disturbances in the Great Lakes and identify the essential capacities for effective responses. Results show that the region as a whole has not responded adequately, and although the resources exist to respond, they are not adequately organized, and inequalities between urban and rural communities can exacerbate these challenges. Community capacities identified as critical for resilience include leadership, scientific knowledge, and connection to broader regional networks to access additional resources, but there are challenges with the complacency of some communities and deficiencies in mental health services. Living at or near poverty can be isolating for individuals and their families. Using the ecological perspective with emphasis on transactions across systems, we examine the social and community capital of urban, low-income individuals to understand the broader terrain that shapes and is shaped by some of their choices, and suggest the implications that our findings might have for anti-poverty initiatives. Data are from interviews with 181 urban residents involved in a federally funded workforce development training, a particular type of social support programming that endeavors to increase the human capital of participants so that they can compete more effectively in the labor market. Findings indicate that respondents have small, homogenous networks, live in resource depleted communities, and have limited sources of social support. We frame this as being caught in "urban silos," in which transactions to more resource-robust systems are minimal to non-existent. While the development of one's human capital is essential, because of these silos, it may not be sufficient for moving an individual and their family out of poverty. Job training, and other anti-poverty initiatives, need to intentionally assist participants in network building so they can better access opportunity pathways that provide jobs and other economic and social resources. Limited export potential can impede growth prospects. While core regions serve as hubs of globalization, the question remains as to how rural regions can increase their exports. By identifying the factors that enhance the export competitiveness of rural regions, particularly in comparison to urban regions, we can steer them towards sustainable development and overcome constraints related to remoteness. However, there is no simple or shortcut way of increasing exports in rural regions. It still requires long-term investments, improvements in human capital, inflows of foreign-owned entities, and advantageous operations of special economic zones. Social capital has a positive impact on exports at the regional level, but its effect could not be acknowledged in the subsets of regions. What should rural regions prioritise? Achieving comprehensive and high-quality employment is essential to achieving new levels of people's well-being. The advancement of Internet technology not only affect the massiveness of employment, but also the quality of that. On the basis of constructing an employment quality evaluation index system, this article uses CLDS (China Labor-force Dynamics Survey) data to explore the impact of Internet use on the employment quality of workers and its underlying mechanisms. The results reveal that Internet use has a significant positive impact on improving the employment quality of workers. As the quantile of employment quality increases, internet use has a greater impact on workers with a lower employment quality quantile. In addition, the use of Internet has a more significant promoting effect on the employment quality of rural and female workers. From the perspective of mechanism, Internet use can increase workers' social capital and influence their employment quality through the accumulation of social capital. Based on this, countermeasures and suggestions are put forward from the aspects of increasing investment and construction of Internet infrastructure, further perfecting the reform of household registration system, promoting human capital investment and social capital construction. In the digital age, Internet use has become important for relative poverty governance and common prosperity in China. “Internet + targeted poverty alleviation” is an essential boost to poverty alleviation that has experienced empirical tests. Academics have also paid attention to the poverty reduction effect of Internet use. On the one hand, existing studies mainly focus on its effect in rural areas, while relative poverty exists widely between urban and rural areas. Therefore, further comparison of the urban-rural differences in their poverty reduction effect is necessary. On the other hand, promoting capital accumulation is the fundamental mechanism of the poverty reduction effect of Internet use, which academics have poorly analyzed. Using the Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS)data in 2017, this paper uses the moderating effect, mediating effect, moderated mediating effect, and threshold effect models to examine the poverty reduction effect of Internet use and the urban-rural difference in its capital accumulation mechanism. The results find that Internet use can alleviate the relative poverty of individuals and has a more significant effect on rural residents than urban residents. Moreover, the results remain robust after overcoming the endogeneity problem using the instrumental variables model. Further mechanism analysis reveals that Internet use can transform online resources into offline human, social, and economic capital, thus alleviating relative poverty. Among them, the poverty reduction effect of human capital accumulated by Internet use is stronger for urban residents, and the poverty reduction effect of economic capital is more substantial for rural residents. Meanwhile, there are threshold conditions for human capital, economic capital, and social capital for the poverty reduction effect of Internet use. Furthermore, there are urban-rural differences in the threshold values. The contribution of this paper to the existing research lies in the following aspects: first, it places urban and rural residents in the same framework and uses different poverty measurement criteria to compare the differences in poverty reduction effects generated by Internet use. Second, to break the dichotomy method used in previous poverty studies, this paper pays more attention to the relative characteristics of relative poverty, takes the difference degree between individual living standard and average level as the index of relative poverty measurement, and generates the variable of relative poverty depth, which is an innovation of poverty measurement. Third, it reveals that the accumulation effect of capital(economic, social, and human capital)generated by Internet use is the fundamental poverty reduction mechanism and further analyzes its urban-rural heterogeneity and threshold conditions. The results suggest that, on the whole, Internet use has a more significant poverty reducing effect on rural residents than on urban residents. Thus vigorous development of Internet infrastructure in rural areas remains an important initiative for future relative poverty governance. The accumulation of human capital is the fundamental mechanism of Internet poverty reduction, warning us to pay attention to enhancing human capital. Forests are increasingly recognized for their beneficial roles in human health. However, there is a debate on how forest health benefits can be accessed equitably, particularly by vulnerable forest-dependent rural communities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Access to forest health benefits is determined by a range of interconnected means, including property rights, as well as natural, physical, human, social, and financial capital. This paper presents a literature review of the roles of means of access in shaping human health effects of forests. Evidence suggests that variations in these means of access are associated with varying ability to access forest health benefits. However, existing evidence is thin, mixed, and weak. A conceptual model is then developed to provide a framework for understanding how means of access moderate the effects of forests on health in rural LMICs to guide the generation of strong evidence. The multiple interconnected factors moderating the health effects of forests at the core of the conceptual framework promote the multisectoral and transdisciplinary approaches needed to enhance equitable access to forest health benefits. The values that people hold are linked to their economic performance. These links can be either direct or indirect, operating through moderating variables such as social network participation, interpersonal trust, trust in institutions, human capital, managerial skills and hours worked. In this paper these effects are studied using structural equation modelling (SEM) methodology applied to European Social Survey data from 28 European countries in 2018. Schwartz classification of values is used, distinguishing between Self-Enhancement (Power, Achievement), Openness to Change (Self-Direction), Conservation (Tradition, Security, Conformity) and Self-Transcendence (Universalism, Benevolence) values. It is found that Power has the strongest positive direct effect on economic performance, further strengthened by a positive indirect structural effect through hours worked. Self-Direction is indirectly positively linked to economic performance through higher managerial skills and hours worked. Tradition has a strong negative direct effect on economic performance. Security is indirectly negatively linked with economic performance, owing to its negative effects on interpersonal trust, management skills and hours worked. Some of the identified effects are context-dependent and vary across European welfare state regimes. For example, Power is statistically significantly linked to economic performance only in the liberal and conservative regime. Values promoted by respective welfare state regimes are not necessarily associated with higher incomes within those regimes, e.g., Tradition and Security values promoted in the conservative and Mediterranean regime are associated with lower incomes. These findings may lead to a range of policy implications, particularly in relation to the policies on immigration, demographics, the labor market, and work-life balance. Studying abroad acts as investment in human capital and ideally outweighs associated investment costs due to higher earnings or related non-monetary benefits. We estimate monetary returns to studying abroad for female graduates 1 and 5 years after graduation. The empirical estimates—based on panel data from four graduate cohorts in 1997, 2001, 2005, and 2009—confirm positive returns to studying abroad. Mobile females earn 3.2% higher wages compared to non-mobiles at labor market entry. These initial wage gains tend to improve further over time, resulting in about 4.0% higher earnings for mobile females 5 years after graduation. Detailed consideration of different socio-economic groups reveals that female graduates from non-academic backgrounds and females majoring in social sciences benefit most. Purpose: Quantitative studies reveal considerable negative adult life outcomes for those who emancipate from the foster care system. This qualitative study of emancipated youth sheds light on how and why these outcomes occur. Method: Sixteen participants were asked to recount their life stories in their own words from the time of foster care emancipation to the present, along with some description of their experiences while in care. Results: Results show a common experience of negative outcomes following emancipation in the areas of education, employment, income, housing, relationships, and mental health, consistent with quantitative studies on this population. Discussion: Findings demonstrate that a lack of human and social capital, in the form of instability of foster care homes, mentoring, and life skills training are to blame for negative life outcomes. Participants offer specific suggestions for improving the foster care system and emancipation process to develop greater resilience and more positive life outcomes for foster care youth. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie założeń ontologicznych właścicieli i osób zarządzających różnymi rodzajami obiektów noclegowych na obszarach wiejskich; zróżnicowane ontologie otwierają obszary wiejskie o funkcji turystycznej na odmienne paradygmaty rozwoju. Przeprowadzone badania odpowiadają na dwa zasadnicze pytania badawcze, tj. 1) jakie paradygmaty rozwoju są identyfikowalne na obszarach wiejskich oraz 2) jakie jest znaczenie czynnika osobistego i społecznego dla rozwoju obszarów wiejskich w ramach zróżnicowanych ontologii rozwoju. Główną metodą jakościową zastosowaną na potrzeby niniejszego badania były strukturyzowane indywidualne wywiady pogłębione. Przeprowadzono je w 2019 r. z 14 właścicielami i osobami zarządzającymi obiektami noclegowymi zlokalizowanymi w województwie łódzkim. Zdefiniowanie pojęcia rozwoju dla uczestników badania nie było proste. Bezpośrednie odniesienia do neoliberalnego paradygmatu wzrostu gospodarczego (zwiększenie obłożenia, wzrost przychodów, zwiększenie liczby oferowanych miejsc noclegowych) pojawiły się w opiniach menedżerów obiektów hotelowych czy ośrodków szkoleniowo-wypoczynkowych. Właściciele gospodarstw agroturystycznych koncentrowali się natomiast na elementach takich jak jakość życia na wsi czy budowanie dobrych relacji z mieszkańcami i turystami. Nie znaczy to jednak, że wartości te były obce menedżerom obiektów komercyjnych. Zarówno oni, jak i właściciele obiektów noclegowych są „agentami zmiany": odrzucają monofunkcyjny rozwój obszarów wiejskich, utożsamiają się często z niekapitalistycznymi paradygmatami rozwoju, pośredniczą w relacjach między turystami a lokalnymi społecznościami, umiejętnie korzystają z lokalnego kapitału ludzkiego i społecznego oraz przyczyniają się do jego rozwoju. This study aims to learn the impact of human capital, social capital, and financial constraints on frugal innovation as perceived by family businesses in the Philippines. Quantitative research was performed using data collected from 93 family businesses, which were analyzed using simple linear regression and structural equation modeling. The results showed that human capital, social capital, and financial constraints, individually and collectively, have a significant impact on frugal innovation. The results also indicated that all measures used for human capital and financial constraints are acceptable, while some measures of social capital and frugal innovation were deemed unfit and were removed from the model. The academe should expand or improve its discussion and curriculum on frugal innovation and continue to look at this through the lenses of its theoretical and practical aspects. Moreover, professors and students should study the relationship further and ultimately expand knowledge and understanding. Family businesses should prioritize improving their human capital to enhance their frugal innovation capabilities. Implementing efficient financial procedures, investigating alternative funding sources, and actively seeking external finance opportunities are crucial. Moreover, family businesses should develop robust social networks. Lastly, the Philippine government should actively encourage continuous learning through mentorship programs and networks. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected most organizations' working environment and productivity. Organizations have had to make arrangements for staff to operate remotely following the implementation of lockdown regulations around the world, as the pandemic has led to restrictions on movement and the temporary closure of workplace premises. The purpose of this paper is to gain a deeper understanding of the effect of this transition on productivity during the pandemic, by studying a distributed network of research who collaborate remotely. We examine how the productivity of researchers is affected by the distributed collaborative networks in which they are embedded. Our goal is to understand the effects of brokerage and closure on the researchers' publication rate, which is interpreted as an indicator of their productivity. We analyze researchers' communication networks, focusing on structural holes and diversity. We take into account the individual qualities of the focal researcher such as seniority. We find that disciplinary diversity among researchers' peers increases the researchers' productivity, lending support to the brokerage argument. In addition, we find support for two statistical interaction effects. First, structural holes moderate diversity so that researchers with diverse networks are more productive when their networks also have a less redundant structure. Diversity and structural holes, when combined, further researchers' productivity. Second, seniority moderates diversity such that senior researchers are more productive than junior researchers in less diverse networks. In more diverse networks, junior researchers perform as well as senior researchers. Social capital and human capital are complementary. We conclude that the benefits of diversity on researchers' productivity are contingent on the qualities of the researchers and on network structure. The study explores various concepts such as human capital, social capital, innovation capability, and performance. Human capital, involving skills, knowledge, and abilities, is crucial for organizational performance, and the higher level of education positively associates with better performance. Social capital encompasses networks, relationships, and shared norms that facilitate innovation by fostering an environment conducive to the exchange of ideas and resources. Innovation capability refers to an organization's capacity to adopt and employ technology to develop products, services, or processes that contribute to competitiveness and adaptability. This study formulates hypotheses aiming to establish relationships between human capital, social capital, innovation capability, and organizational performance. The proposed hypotheses suggest the influence of human capital and social capital on innovation capability and performance. A quantitative approach was utilized through explanatory research, investigating specific populations within Telkom Ambon Branch, using Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis. The study’s findings present insightful conclusions regarding the relationships between the variables. Human capital positively influences performance and innovation capability, while social capital has a positive effect on innovation capabilities but negatively impacts employee performance. Moreover, innovation capability positively impacts organizational performance. The examination further elucidates the mediation role of innovation capability between human capital, social capital, and employee performance. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the relationships between human capital, social capital, innovation capability, and performance within an organizational context. Foreign-born scholars can accumulate and/or utilise their intellectual capital (IC) through intellectual migration. IC is a combination of transferrable human, cultural, and social capital. While IC has been conceptualised, no known studies have measured it. As foreign-born scholars often develop academic networks that transcend geographical and ethnic boundaries, their IC should not be simplified as a single scale. Adopting the ego-centric network analysis method, this study proposes an approach to quantify foreign-born scholars' IC based on their co-author network. This approach includes a group of measures to capture IC within and between different geographic and ethnic contexts. Based on the co-authorship data collected among China-born scholars at a public research university in the U.S., this study examines how their IC levels evolve over time, differ between younger- and older-generation scholars, and whether they are influenced by where one receives a PhD degree. Digital transformation goes beyond digitalization to make radical changes to organisational models and social structures. It takes people with knowledge, skills and motivation to use ICTs to be able to carry out digital transformation. Human capital is seen to be the key for effective digital transformation as it can fuel sustainable development when people use ICTs to lead the lives they choose to live. Unless there is a transformation in capabilities, access to ICTs, requisite skills and knowledge, then digital transformation will merely exacerbate existing inequalities. It will need to touch personal psychology: not merely enabling the marginalised to participate but offering them the ability use digitalization to improve their lives. The human capital key to digital transformation is offered as a means of attaining positive cycles of sustainable development. Wasta is an Arabic concept that describes the use of close friends and family members, rather than formal means, to resolve conflicts and gain access to resources. An overwhelming majority of people in the Arab Middle East report that wasta is essential for navigating their careers. Despite these claims, the relationships between wasta, employment status, and income have not yet been empirically tested. In the current study, the authors examine 5,622 participant responses across five Arab countries (Yemen, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Algeria) to examine the relationships between the tendency to use wasta and employment status, individual income, and family income. As expected, the tendency to use wasta was related to individual income, family income, and employment status. The relationship between the tendency to use wasta and family income was moderated by education, such that there was a stronger relationship among participants reporting lower educational levels. This article examines who volunteers for humanitarian organizations as compared to volunteering for other organizations versus people not volunteering, in the Netherlands. Using high-quality survey data (N = 5,050), we depart from a classic theoretical resource-based approach to study what forms of resources play a role in the likelihood to volunteer for different types of civic associations. We find that education and subjective health as indicators of human capital matter in volunteering for most types of associations, however, more so for humanitarian organizations than some other types of organizations. Social capital is of larger importance in volunteering for leisure organizations than for humanitarian ones, while cultural capital is relevant for volunteering but not more for humanitarian associations. Some forms of capital are thus stronger related to particular organizations, showing the different demographic compositions of the distinguished associations. The intergenerational transmission of poverty has always been an important issue around the world. This study examines the effects of father's and mother's human and social capital on the income of their children in China by using the data obtained from the 2014 China Labor-force Dynamics Survey. The results show that (1) the effects of the human and social capital of the father and mother on the child's income are heterogeneous. Specifically, the father's education, father work industry and mother work industry have little effect on their child's income. However, the mother's education has a positive and significant effect on a child's income. (2) The effect of the mother's education on child's income is significant but limited, on average, the marginal contribution of the mother's education on the natural logarithm of the child's income is only 1.0%. (3) The child's human capital, including health, education, foreign language ability, and professional ability, significantly affects their income. (4) The results obtained from quantile regression and sub-sample regression support the above findings. Therefore, the effective means of intervening against the intergenerational transmission of poverty should be to help the individual improve their human capital, rather than starting with their parents. Purpose: Drawing upon social capital theory, this research aims to explore the influence of three dimensions of green intellectual capital (GIC) (i.e. green human capital [GHC], green structural capital and green relational capital) on green supply chain integration (GSCI) (i.e. green supplier, internal and customer integration), and the mediating effect of supply chain transformational leadership (SCTL). Design/methodology/approach: To verify the hypothesized relationships, the authors conduct hierarchical regression analysis and bootstrapping method with two-waved survey data collected from 317 Chinese manufacturing firms. Findings: The findings suggest that both green structural and relational capital positively influence three dimensions of GSCI, while GHC only positively affects green internal and customer integration. In addition, SCTL mediates the impacts of green structural and relational capital on three dimensions of GSCI and mediates the impacts of GHC on green supplier and internal integration. Originality/value: This research contributes to the GSCI literature and practice by deeming GIC as an intangible resource that can enhance GSCI and revealing the mediating role of SCTL. Purpose: This study determines the nexus between spiritual leadership and psychological safety (PS). The authors explore the mediating role of PS and knowledge sharing to offer insights on how spiritual leadership can be advanced to better understand and support intellectual capital. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected using convenience sampling from the Pakistani automobile manufacturing industry. SPSS statistical software was used for descriptive analysis and hypotheses were tested by using the partial least square-structural equation modeling method. Findings: The results demonstrate that spiritual leadership has a significant positive impact on PS; PS has a positive impact on knowledge sharing (KS) and KS has a positive impact on intellectual capital. Furthermore, PS mediates between spiritual leadership and KS. KS mediates between PS and human, social and organizational capital. Spiritual leadership also affects outside the boundaries of the organization and builds strong social relations with suppliers, buyers, etc. Research limitations/implications: This study provides a deeper understanding of spiritual leadership in the context of KS and intellectual capital in the automobile sector of Pakistan. Practical implications: This study encourages managers to nurture a philosophy of altruistic love that exerts a positive influence on employees. It will enrich their experience and promote a culture of KS. Social implications: This study has social implications for organizations seeking to situate their inclusive goals in society. The findings of this study can help promote harmony as employees who feel psychologically safe are more willing to spread it in society. This article examines the long-term effects of war exposure on generalized trust and risk attitudes 20 years after the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our study goes beyond the destruction of physical and human capital and investigates the effects of war exposure on psychological preferences and beliefs, as well as their mutual relationship and determinants. Our empirical strategy employs a nationally representative survey and an endogenous Seemingly Unrelated Model. We discover that individuals living in municipalities with greater war fatalities report significantly higher distrust in people and simultaneously express greater risk aversion. Moreover, there is a mutually endogenous and strong positive relationship between the two dependent variables, whereby greater trust is associated with greater risk-seeking. Consequently, our results demonstrate that the tragic consequences of war are not only confined to negative socio-economic outcomes but also leave a lasting impact on the psychological preferences of people that experienced it. The study examined Israeli mothers' engagement in their children's distance learning during COVID-19 crisis. A thematic analysis of interviews with 20 mothers from high and low socioeconomic background yielded three core categories: (a) mothers' responses to the situation of school closures that addressed to organizing, supervising and less learning pressure by keeping boundaries between school and home activities; (b) challanged and concerens that refed to workload, instructional difficulty and the quality of teachers' work; (c) mothers' resources for engaging in their children'slearning that comprised social capital and human capital including digital skills. Socioeconomic differences were found in regard to these three core categories that sustain inequality. However, mothers from low socioeconomic background reported being actively engaged and critical toward teachers. Implications regarding parent engagement at the post-COVID-19 are suggested. The article explored human, social, and economic capital of Syrian refugees and other Syrian forced migrants in Jordan. Interrelations of their human, social, and economic forms of capital affected their everyday lives in Jordan as well as their future migration aspirations. The data consisted of a semi-structured survey among 408 Syrian refugees and other forced Syrian migrants in Jordan. Varied combinations of these forms of capital significantly impacted the well-being of these Syrians in the host state. Those who consolidated human capital and possessed dispersed and open social networks created coping strategies through education and employment that were more likely to be effective, and they considered immigrating to countries that are more developed. Syrians who lacked capital stocks in Jordan often found themselves at the risk of poverty, immobility or forced return to their ruined livelihoods in Syria. The article debunked the myth about powerlessness and passiveness of refugees and other forced migrants and drew attention to their agency and assets. Their levels of vulnerability in the host country significantly varied among individuals with different capital stocks. Water is one of the basic needs that must be met by all human beings. In fulfilling this, the government's participation plays a very important role, limited fund management is a scourge that is feared by the government so that the coverage of community-based drinking water services with independent management from the community is the first step in overcoming the current achievement of access to drinking water. However, in its development the SPAM system built has experienced different developments. This study aims to determine the sustainability of community-based drinking water service systems by looking at the supporting factors for the sustainability of community-based drinking water services. This study uses a qualitative method which uses a case study method. The research design used a holistic multi-case study using two research villages, namely Sukadana Village and Ababi Village. From the research results it can be seen that community-based drinking water supply has different levels of sustainability. Villages that have a level of sustainability from several aspects such as social, economic, institutional aspects make it possible to have more excellent service continuity compared to villages that only have one important aspect. This is because each aspect has a relationship between one another. The sustainability of community-based drinking water services is strongly influenced by social, human and institutional capital. Understanding public opinion on the EU remains a pressing issue. In contrast to previous studies on EU attitudes in general, we pose the following question: Which factors help us to understand public support for five specific scenarios for the EU's future? We promote the still undertheorized identity approach that has developed alongside the utilitarian and the cue-taking perspectives. We argue that a European Social Capital – composed of trust, norms and networks with other Europeans – is related to support for further integration scenarios. The multivariate analyses are based upon a mass survey conducted in Austria. Our results show a significant correlation between higher levels of European Social Capital and positive attitudes towards scenarios for more integration. This adds to the identity approach in the literature on EU attitudes. Our study has important implications for the EU's reform debate. In developing countries, it is generally believed that a good health status and education (human capital) bring economic well-being and benefits. Some researchers have found that there are overall financial returns and income premiums correlated with human capital because of its excellent and higher ability. Due to different views and a lack of consensus, the role of human capital is still ambiguous and poorly understood. This study investigates the economic returns of health status, education level, and social interaction, that is, whether and how human capital and social interaction affect employment and income premiums. Using the Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) for specification bias, we used the instrumental variable (IV) approach to specify the endogeneity and interaction effect in order to identify the impact and economic returns of human capital and social interaction on the values of other control and observed variables. However, we show that an individual with strong and higher human capital positively affects economic returns, but the variability of these estimates differs across estimators. Being more socially interactive is regarded as a type of social interaction but as not human capital in the labor market; thus, the empirical findings of this study reflect social stability and that the economic well-being of socially active individuals is an advantaged situation. Social and financial remittances from the Australian Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP) have transformed the livelihood capabilities of participating households from Timor-Leste. Timorese workers generally participate in SWP for a six-month period, with many returning for subsequent seasons. Qualitative, multi-sited research investigated the livelihood strategies of 50 Timorese worker households over a three-year period. Their net earnings averaged between 4000 and 8000 USD per season, varying with the type of employment, living costs and their ability to save. Remittances assist in strengthening livelihoods by consolidating financial, physical, social, natural and human capital, improving the quality of life for returning workers, their households and communities. Remittances maintain and consolidate social relationships, and enable investments in entrepreneurial activities, education and house building. Migrant workers exhibited a strong preference for developing social capital, with many investments in other livelihood assets underpinned by a desire to strengthen social relationships, reflecting beliefs that this enhances livelihood resilience. While remittances have made greater direct contributions to livelihoods than economic production within Timor-Leste, at least for participating households and their immediate networks, this expenditure on social capital also suggests the broader structural limitations of using remittances in a 'productive' way (through capital accumulation) within labour-sending countries. In Matehuala, a regional center of San Luis Potosí located in the northern center of the Mexican Altiplano, landscapes typical of the dry tropics and cultural remains of tourist value are combined with the presence of sporadic and torrential rains, and floods that affect the site. There are few methodological references to spatially differentiate the way in which sites are recovered after a threat occurs. The work reveals levels of tourism resilience under the physical, economic, human and social capital approach with the probabilistic typing method. There is a shortage of research investigating the link between employee development practices and intellectual capital as mediated by knowledge management. The aim of the current research was to consider the influence of employee development practices on intellectual capital through knowledge management. Data were collected through an instrument distributed to a sample of 464 employees working at information and communications technology companies. The results indicate that employee development practices had significant effects on human capital, knowledge management, and social capital. The results reveal that knowledge management had a significant effect on human capital but not on social capital. Finally, the results show that knowledge management significantly mediated the impact of employee development practices on human capital. Human capital theory has been one of the most influential theories in national policymaking since the 1980s. The major assertion is that individuals can attain better employment outcomes through investing in degrees and credentials. Following the economic reforms of the late 1970s, Chinese families have reverted to the tradition of investing in the education of their children, hoping that the human capital accumulated through higher education will translate into economic capital, enhancing their children's upward social mobility. However, the rapid expansion of Chinese higher education since 1999 has caused an educational inflation, adversely affecting graduate employment. This article critically examines China's response to global capitalism through bureaucratic adjustment of higher education expansion in managing the market transition and social reproduction of labour challenges within a relatively short historic period of 'compressed development'. Without effective articulation between higher education expansion and the changing labour needs during the market transition, the rush to higher education expansion has created different forms of social and economic contradictions. More specifically, this article argues that social embeddedness including parental influence, institutional policies, and social capital are important factors to be considered in explaining the relationship between education and work in the Chinese context. Purpose: The term "social innovation" refers to interorganizational activity ostensibly designed to address environmental issues. Green intellectual capital (IC) has been considered to be a vitally important mechanism for companies to move towards green production. By adopting the Intellectual capital-based view (ICV) as the underpinning theory, this study aims to investigate the green intellectual capital and social innovation tie-up. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research approach was adopted in this study. The mail survey was used to collect data from managers of 509 manufacturing units operating in J&K, India. The study model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings: Based on the SEM results, the key factors that significantly influence social innovation were green human capital and green structural capital. The results also posited that green relational capital was not significantly related to social innovation. Originality/value: As revealed by the existing literature, no similar work has been done yet. Therefore, this study's originality lies in its exploration of green intellectual capital (IC) and social innovation interplay in an environmentally sensitive sector, manufacturing. Corporate lobbyists play a vital role in the Corporate Political Activity process. They act as a mediator between corporations and politicians when firms engage in lobbying activities. Firms value professional lobbyists for their connections in Washington and their knowledge of the political process. While previous Corporate Political Activity research on lobbying has focused primarily on the amount of money firms spend on lobbying, including antecedents of lobbying and outcomes, very little research has examined lobbyists' individual differences and how those influence important outcomes. In this paper, we examine how lobbyists' specialization and experience as both a lobbyist and a former politician can influence the number of bills lobbied on passed into law. Using a sample of corporate lobbyists who were hired by S&P 500 firms, we look at 8,630 lobbyist's careers from 2005–2016. We find that lobbyists lower in specialization are more likely to lobby on bills which are eventually passed into law than highly specialized lobbyists. We also find that social capital moderates the relationship between specialization and lobbying effectiveness. These results suggest that while corporate political activity spending is important, both scholars and firms should also understand who firms are hiring to lobby for them and how differences in lobbyist specialization might influence firm effectiveness in the nonmarket arena. Using mixed methods research approach, this study explores the employment experiences of the Kazakhstani graduates with international human capital in the domestic labour market. Human and social capital theories and Spence's signalling theory are utilised to explain and consider how investment into and internationalisation of those capitals and signalling attributes contribute to the graduates' after-return labour market participation scenarios. The findings indicate that international education significantly improves graduate employability and widens opportunities. However, the limited options and capacity of the local labour market as well as the attitudinal differences between the Soviet era senior administration and foreign-educated graduates represent serious challenges. Covert networks refer to criminal organizations that operate outside the boundaries of the law; they can be mainly classified as terrorist networks and criminal networks. We consider how Social Network Analysis (SNA) is used to analyze such networks in order to attain a greater knowledge of criminal behavior. In fact, SNA allows examining the network structure and functioning by computing relevant metrics and parameters to identify roles, positions, features, and other network functioning that are not otherwise easily discovered at first glance. This is why Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) are showing growing interest in SNA, which is also used to identify weak spots and disrupt criminal groups. This paper provides a literature review and a classification of methods and real-case applications of disruption techniques. It considers covert network adaptability to such dismantling attempts, herein referred to as resilience. Critical problems of SNA in criminal studies are discussed, including data collection techniques and the inevitable incompleteness and biases of real-world datasets, with the aim of promoting a new research stream for both dismantling techniques and data collection issues. With the development of market economy and the improvement of people's pursuit of quality of life, the time of talent flow is increasing, which forms the social network of human capital. As a new stock, human capital social network can have an impact on individual thoughts or behaviors. This paper with a recruitment website workers repeatedly changes employment resume as the research object and uses literature research and empirical analysis based on human capital social network model analysis for the industry distribution of employment analysis and discussion. The results show that the IT internet industry in labor cross-industry network has high resource control and information advantage and has large correlation with other industries; traditional industry is limited; construction, leasing, and business services, electricity, heat, coal, and water flow frequency are the lowest; and the network structure is more stable. Using survey data on 647 "people living with HIV/AIDS" (PLHIV) respondents from India, we examine the association between human, economic, and social capital and psychological well-being during the Covid-19 pandemic, and whether pandemic-induced job and financial insecurity are significant stressors. We find that among human capital indicators, family health status results in a more positive mental state and fewer personal conflicts among PLHIV while having more working-age adults in the household results in more conflict. With regards to economic capital, PLHIV in salaried jobs and self-employment have a less positive mental state compared to those in daily wage work. Compared to daily wage workers, those in salaried jobs and self-employment exhibit lower addictive behavior. Self-employed PLHIV respondents also engage in fewer conflicts with their significant other. We do not find any correlation between social capital and psychological well-being. Job and financial insecurity are negatively associated with psychological well-being. While job insecurity is associated with an increase in addictive behavior, financial insecurity increases the likelihood of more frequent personal conflicts. We conclude that there is a need for greater economic and psychological support from institutions, community, and family to assuage the pandemic-induced psychological distress among PLHIV. Empirical evidence on life satisfaction of care leavers is scant and often based on small and nonrepresentative samples. Based on the life course perspective, this study explored the role of objective and subjective factors in explaining life satisfaction among care leavers, both general and domain-specific (work-financial-housing, social relationships–emotional state). The sample was randomly drawn from the whole population of eight graduating birth cohorts of alumni of educational residential care in Israel and consists of 2, 295 alumni (24–31 years old). The study is based on an extensive set of longitudinal administrative records combined with structured phone interviews. Bivariate analysis and multiple regression models were used to assess associations between precare context, in-care and postcare experiences and achievements with general and domain-specific life satisfaction. Gender differences were found in both domain-specific life satisfactions with men having greater satisfaction. Family background indicators were generally more predictive of general and social relationships- emotional state satisfaction. In-care experiences of peer and staff support and postcare experience of material deprivation were strong predictors of general and domain-specific life satisfaction. Postcare contacts with care staff, surprisingly, were associated with lower general satisfaction and satisfaction with social relationships-emotional state. Higher educational attainment at the end of placement and integration into postsecondary education were associated with greater general and work-financial-housing satisfaction. The effects of in-care preparation for independent adult living, employment and parenthood are not consistent across different domains of life satisfaction. Implications for policy and practice during and after care are discussed. Public Policy Relevance Statement: General life satisfaction among care leavers is relatively low and levels of domain-specific life satisfaction varied across domains. While the level of satisfaction in the domain of social relationships and emotional state was relatively high, satisfaction in the domain of work-financial-housing was lower. To promote the subjective well-being of care leavers in young adulthood three area should be the focus of practitioners and services: promoting a positive in-care social climate by enhancing supportive relationships with peers and staff; increasing the proportion of alumni achieving a quality matriculation diploma and enhancing integration in postsecondary education; and implementing policy measures to address the material hardship of these young people after leaving care. A rich body of scientific research suggests a positive relationship between education and social and political engagement. Active social engagement is important for incarcerated individuals if they are to successfully reintegrate into communities and desist from further involvement in crime. While a plethora of research has focused on the importance of correctional education, the extent of association between other forms of human capital such as cognitive skills and adult lifelong learning is unclear. The current study utilized data from the U.S. PIAAC Prison Study (2014) to explore the relationship between educational attainment, adult cognitive skill proficiency, lifelong learning, and social outcomes among incarcerated individuals. At least one of the three types of human capital variables included was found to be positively and significantly related to the three social outcomes of political efficacy, interpersonal trust, and health perception, even after controlling for the other two human capital variables and a number of demographics, demonstrating that each has its own, distinct contribution to social outcomes. Using the resource-based view of the firm, this article examines how different resources are used by small- and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs) in response to environmental uncertainty in an emerging market context. A survey was conducted involving 212 owners, CEOs, or managing directors of SMEs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to explore the drivers of firm growth strategies. Our empirical results show that higher environmental uncertainty, in terms of market and regulatory uncertainty, drives SMEs to pursue a more exploratory instead of an exploitative growth strategy. Our results also show that SMEs pursuing more of an exploratory growth strategy focus predominantly on intangible resources such as human capital and social capital while firms pursuing more of an exploitative growth strategy focus more on financial resources. The results from our study provide valuable insights for how managers can structure, bundle, and leverage different resources for developing their strategies based on their level of perceived environmental uncertainty. While Scandinavia in general and Norway in particular have been the focus of much criminological interest, the work of probation has largely been overlooked in favour of prisons. This article seeks therefore to contribute to our knowledge of Norwegian penality and desistance by analysing how probation caseworkers describe their practice. Caseworkers have a relational, contextualised understanding of probation clients and the challenges they face. That being said, even in a Scandinavian welfare state, caseworkers see the process of reintegration and change as difficult, highlighting a lack of human and social capital and the challenges of navigating an increasingly complex and impersonal welfare apparatus. The Poverty Alleviation Resettlement (PAR) has been extensively adopted in China as a crucial approach towards achieving poverty eradication goals, resulting in notable successes. Nonetheless, this approach poses significant challenges to the relocated households in sustaining their livelihood in a sustainable manner. Uncovering the impact of different livelihood capitals on livelihood resilience and identifying strategies to enhance farmers' resilience are crucial challenges demanding immediate attention. Within the framework of sustainable livelihoods, this research investigates the relationship between livelihood capitals and resilience among rural households relocated for poverty alleviation in China. The analysis reveals that enhancing the social capital, physical capital, financial capital, and coping behavior of relocated farmers can bolster their livelihood resilience. Although human capital does not directly influence resilient livelihoods, it indirectly contributes through its mediating role in coping behaviors. This paper attempts to remedy the shortcomings of previous studies on the relationship between "livelihood capital and livelihood resilience" that disregarded the transmission of intermediate variables. The outcomes of this study bear significant practical and theoretical implications regarding the improvement of response strategies, the strengthening of farmers' livelihood resilience, and the expansion and refinement of the sustainable livelihood theory. Community supported agriculture (CSA) strengthens the local food system (LFS) and plays a critical role in promoting human capital (HC) and addressing social determinants of health (SDH). Most CSAs develop relationships that build a sense of community, and engage in activities that facilitate access to food and economic opportunities. CSAs may also contribute to personal development, education and income, working experience, and knowledge. CSA principles align with the principles of HC, specifically the pursuit of economic development. While research on the connection between CSA and HC has broadly focused on the economic aspect, the human development dimension has remained at the conceptual level. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential HC contributions by CSA and the implications for health outcomes in central/northern New Mexico. Primary and secondary data were collected through a semi-structured, open-ended questionnaire and an internet search. Purposive sampling was used to select 13 CSAs. Eight (61.5%) responded and reported activities that address HC and SDH such as training, job creation, education, access to healthy food, food security, health education and disease management, social connections, and food justice. Given the potential impact, public health must contribute to CSA by generating evidence on its health and social benefits, training practitioners on supporting local food program, and promoting policy that stimulates the local economy, fosters social relations and food justice, and empowers community members. This study analyzed the influence of sustainable livelihood and environmental cognition on herdsmen's production behaviors on basis of logistic model. The consequences illustrated that the social capital followed by material capital, financial capital, and human capital has the greatest impact on herdsmen's production behaviors, but the natural capital played a vital role in promoting herdsmen's choice of raising breeding scale. The area and quality of grassland in herdsman families' sustainable livelihood could encourage herdsmen to increase breeding scale, while the quantity of livestock, structure of house, the number of labor, the level of education, the status of health, and the income of families could promote herdsmen to restrain the breeding scale. We examine income-generating strategies of "getting by" in a sample of young adults who have an offending record. First, we examine if human capital, conventional social capital, and criminal social capital are associated with decisions to supplement legal income with income from informal or illegal activities. Second, we explore which of those factors differentiate supplementing with informal activities from supplementing with illicit activities. Random effects linear probability models are used to analyze a subsample of the Pathways to Desistance Study, a longitudinal data set of adolescents who have begun the transition to adulthood. We find that, among individuals in low-wage jobs, neither conventional social capital nor conventional human capital was related to supplementing legal work with informal work. Criminal social capital and low legal wages in the prior year increased the probability of supplementing legal work with illicit income-generating activities. The current study corroborates previous findings that many individuals are engaged in various income-generating activities. In 2016, the government‐funded Fast Track for Newly Arrived Teachers and Preschool Teachers programme was introduced in Sweden. The initiative stemmed from a shortage of teachers and preschool teachers alongside a relatively large number of educated and experienced teachers among newly arrived immigrants. This study uses both qualitative and quantitative data to present the participants' perspectives of the professional development offered by the Fast Track programme. The experiences of participants reveal challenges encountered in a new social and cultural field. This study uses the framework of human capital and social capital theory. The results show that the vast majority of participants perceive that they gain professional development through the Fast Track programme with the help of bonding and bridging social capital. However, Swedish administrative processes, cultural barriers, such as language proficiency, and slow adaptation to the new educational context seem to hinder professional development and integration.
