A hallmark of unconventional superconductors is a complex electronic phase diagram where intertwined orders of charge-spin-lattice degrees of freedom compete and coexist. While the kagome metals such as CsV3Sb5 also exhibit complex behavior, involving coexisting charge density wave order and superconductivity, much is unclear about the microscopic origin of the superconducting pairing. We study the vortex lattice in the superconducting state of Cs(V0.86Ta0.14)3Sb5, where the Ta-doping suppresses charge order and enhances superconductivity. Using small-angle neutron scattering, a strictly bulk probe, we show that the vortex lattice exhibits a strikingly conventional behavior. This includes a triangular symmetry with a period consistent with 2e-pairing, a field dependent scattering intensity that follows a London model, and a temperature dependence consistent with a uniform superconducting gap. Our results suggest that optimal bulk superconductivity in Cs(V1−xTax)3Sb5 arises from a conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer electron-lattice coupling, different from spin fluctuation mediated unconventional copper- and iron-based superconductors. The mechanism of superconductivity in layered kagome metals remains unclear, however its coexistence with charge order suggests exotic interpretations. The Monday morning session started with the awarding of the Clifford G. Shull Prize in Neutron Scattering to Dan A. Neumann (NIST) "for outstanding contributions, leadership, and vision to the neutron scattering community as scientist, mentor, instrument developer, and facility steward" (Figure 1). The meeting, organized by the Neutron Scattering Society of America (NSSA), was led by Conference Chair and NSSA Vice President Peter Gehring (National Institute of Standards and Technology [NIST]) and NSSA President Young Lee (Stanford University) together with the Local Committee Co-chairs Steven DeCaluwe (Colorado School of Mines) and Dmitry Reznik (University of Colorado). The recipients were Paul Butler "for service to the neutron scattering community through his leadership and development of scientific software for small-angle scattering", Simon Billinge "for service to the neutron scattering community through his leadership and development of scientific software for total scattering experiments", Brent Fultz "for service to the neutron scattering community through his leadership and development of scientific software and instrumentation for inelastic scattering", and William D. Ratcliff "for service to the neutron community by founding and organizing a national school on solving magnetic structures with neutron diffraction and developing new AI data collection and analysis methods." The main scientific program began on Monday, and many special events were held throughout the week, including the NCNR User Group (NUG) and SNS/HFIR User Group (SHUG) meetings, an exhibitor hall, the ACNS Banquet, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) discussion focused on barriers to access for neutron science, a breakout discussion on how to improve the user experience with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) neutron data systems, and the Women in Neutron Science Mixer. Small-angle neutron scattering has been used to study the vortex lattice in superconducting MgB2 doped with either manganese or carbon to achieve a similar suppression of the critical temperature. Measurements were performed with the magnetic field applied along the c axis, where the vortex lattice in pure MgB2 is known to undergo a field- and temperature-driven 30° rotation transition. For Mn doping, the vortex lattice phase diagram remains qualitatively similar to that of pure MgB2, indicating only a modest effect on the vortex-- vortex interaction. In contrast, the vortex lattice rotation transition is completely suppressed in the C-doped case, probably due to a change in the electronic structure which affects the two-band/two-gap nature of superconductivity in MgB2. The vortex lattice longitudinal correlation length shows the opposite behavior, remaining roughly unchanged between pure and C-doped MgB2 while it is significantly reduced in the Mn-doped case. However, the extensive vortex lattice metastability and related activated behavior, observed in conjunction with the vortex lattice transition in pure MgB2, are also seen in the Mn-doped sample. In polar magnets, such as GaV4S8, GaV4Se8 and VOSe2O5, modulated magnetic phases namely the cycloidal and the Néel-type skyrmion lattice states were identified over extended temperature ranges, even down to zero Kelvin. Our combined small-angle neutron scattering and magnetization study shows the robustness of the Néel-type magnetic modulations also against magnetic fields up to 2 T in the polar GaMo4S8. In addition to the large upper critical field, enhanced spin-orbit coupling stabilize cycloidal, Néel skyrmion lattice phases with sub-10 nm periodicity and a peculiar distribution of the magnetic modulation vectors. Moreover, we detected an additional single-q state not observed in any other polar magnets. Thus, our work demonstrates that non-centrosymmetric magnets with 4d and 5d electron systems may give rise to various highly compressed modulated states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The manipulation of mesoscale domain wall phenomena has emerged as a powerful strategy for designing ferroelectric responses in functional devices, but its full potential is not yet realized in the field of magnetism. This work shows a direct connection between magnetic response functions in mechanically strained samples of Mn3O4 and MnV2O4 and stripe‐like patternings of the bulk magnetization which appear below known magnetostructural transitions. Building off previous magnetic force microscopy data, a small‐angle neutron scattering is used to show that these patterns represent distinctive magnetic phenomena which extend throughout the bulk of two separate materials, and further are controllable via applied magnetic field and mechanical stress. These results are unambiguously connected to the anomalously large magnetoelastic and magnetodielectric response functions reported for these materials, by performing susceptibility measurements on the same crystals and directly correlating local and macroscopic data. In an effort to upgrade and provide a unified and improved instrument control and data acquisition system for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) instrument suite—biological small-angle neutron scattering instrument (Bio-SANS), the extended q-range small-angle neutron scattering diffractometer (EQ-SANS), the general-purpose small-angle neutron scattering diffractometer (GP-SANS)—beamline scientists and developers teamed up and worked closely together to design and develop a new system. We began with an in-depth analysis of user needs and requirements, covering all perspectives of control and data acquisition based on previous usage data and user feedback. Our design and implementation were guided by the principles from the latest user experience and design research and based on effective practices from our previous projects. In this article, we share details of our design process as well as prominent features of the new instrument control and data acquisition system. The new system provides a sophisticated Q-Range Planner to help scientists and users plan and execute instrument configurations easily and efficiently. The system also provides different user operation interfaces, such as wizard-type tool Panel Scan, a Scripting Tool based on Python Language, and Table Scan, all of which are tailored to different user needs. The new system further captures all the metadata to enable post-experiment data reduction and possibly automatic reduction and provides users with enhanced live displays and additional feedback at the run time. Oak Ridge National Laboratory is home to the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), a high‐flux research reactor, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world's most intense source of pulsed neutron beams. The unique co‐localization of these two sources provided an opportunity to develop a suite of complementary small‐angle neutron scattering instruments for studies of large‐scale structures: the GP‐SANS and Bio‐SANS instruments at the HFIR and the EQ‐SANS and TOF‐USANS instruments at the SNS. This article provides an overview of the capabilities of the suite of instruments, with specific emphasis on how they complement each other. A description of the plans for future developments including greater integration of the suite into a single point of entry for neutron scattering studies of large‐scale structures is also provided. Strongly correlated kagome magnets are promising candidates for achieving controllable topological devices owing to the rich interplay between inherent Dirac fermions and correlation-driven magnetism. Here we report tunable local magnetism and its intriguing control of topological electronic response near room temperature in the kagome magnet Fe3Sn2 using small angle neutron scattering, muon spin rotation, and magnetoresistivity measurement techniques. The average bulk spin direction and magnetic domain texture can be tuned effectively by small magnetic fields. Magnetoresistivity, in response, exhibits a measurable degree of anisotropic weak localization behavior, which allows the direct control of Dirac fermions with strong electron correlations. Our work points to a novel platform for manipulating emergent phenomena in strongly correlated topological materials relevant to future applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
