Lung cancer has emerged as a major global public health concern. With growing public interest in lung cancer, online searches for related information have surged. However, a comprehensive evaluation of the credibility, quality, and value of lung cancer-related videos on digital media platforms remains unexamined. This study aimed to assess the informational quality and content of lung cancer-related videos on Douyin and Bilibili. A total of 200 lung cancer-related videos that met the criteria were selected from Douyin and Bilibili for evaluation and analysis. The first step involved recording and analyzing the basic information provided in the videos. Subsequently, the source and type of content for each video were identified. All videos' educational content and quality were then evaluated using JAMA, GQS, and Modified DISCERN. Douyin videos were found to be more popular in terms of likes, comments, favorites, and shares, whereas Bilibili videos were longer in duration (P <.001). The majority of video content on both platforms comprised lung cancer introductions (31/100, 31%), with medical professionals being the primary source of uploaded videos (Douyin, n = 55, 55%; Bilibili, n = 43, 43%). General users on Douyin scored the lowest on the JAMA scale, whereas for-profit businesses scored the highest (2.50 points). The results indicated that the videos' informational quality was insufficient. Videos from science communications and health professionals were deemed more reliable regarding completeness and content quality compared to videos from other sources. Douyin as a popular Chinese short-video app has revolutionized social interactions in daily life. To explore users' information dissemination behaviors in short-video social networks, a music community network is constructed from Douyin. Firstly, we crawl a total of 881,454 comments associated with six music topics, i.e., folk, rock, light music, pop, hip-hop, and English music. By extracting comment and mention relations from the dataset, we construct a music community network consisting of 5,433 nodes and 12,775 edges. Secondly, we examine the music community to gain insights into the characteristics of the social network. Finally, we analyze users' information dissemination behaviors in terms of their sentiments, interests, and geographic locations. The results show the music short-video community network on Douyin is characterized by community, small world and scale-free. There exists consistent sentiment transmission between users, accounting for 86% of the sentiment chains. Users with similar interests are more likely to interact, but information sharing between user pairs with different interests should not be ignored. Moreover, the users' social contact has broken through the limitation of geographical distance, of which 93% are cross-province user pairs and only 2% are same-city ones. Due to the sanctions imposed on Russia in 2022, the broadcasting of state-owned Russian TV channels was banned in many countries. In response to the changing media environment, Russian TV companies are compelled to explore new markets worldwide to provide information about the Russian Federation. The authors identify China as a key alternative to the lost markets, given the booming Chinese media industry that offers a variety of news consumption options to the audience. Among these options, short online videos have gained significant popularity, with Douyin emerging as one of the most successful short-video platforms. This article analyzes the evolution of this phenomenon in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and aims to observe the reasons behind the format’s popularity among the Chinese audience. The relevance of this paper lies in the necessity to study effective and legitimate methods of news production on Chinese internet platforms for Russian TV companies. Analyzing a total of 5765 posts, the authors focus on the topics, length, and content creation methods used by three television companies (CCTV, Henan TV, Shanghai Dragon TV) when posting news on the social media platform Douyin. Additionally, a review of the regulations governing the work of Chinese and foreign media in China has been carried out. The study describes the distinctive features and development strategies of the accounts of these TV channels and concludes with recommendations that Russian media can utilize in adapting news content for well-known Chinese online platforms. Особое внимание уделяется опыту размещения телекомпаниями КНР новостного аудиовизуального контента в формате short video на платформе Douyin. В основу положен тезис о том, что китайский рынок сетевых СМИ является важной альтернативой для российских медиа в связи с введением запрета на распространение новостей государственными средствами массовой информации РФ после начала СВО на Украине в целом ряде стран. Актуальность исследования обусловлена необходимостью изучения эффективных и легитимных методов работы с новостной продукцией в цифровой среде КНР, которая существует в условиях контроля со стороны властей. Выполнен обзор нормативных актов, регулирующих работу китайских и иностранных СМИ в Китае. Представлены результаты контент-анализа новостных роликов, публикуемых телекомпаниями CCTV, Dragon TV и Henan Television на платформе Douyin. Описаны отличительные особенности и стратегии развития аккаунтов указанных телеканалов. Выявлены рекомендации, которые могут быть использованы российскими СМИ в процессе адаптации новостного контента на известных китайских онлайн-платформах.

Modern mobile technologies that allow the quick creation of short videos provide users with ample opportunities to present their information in public space. Teenagers have become the most active users of new forms of creativity, so their self-presentations on video platforms deserve attention. This study uses content analysis to examine the features of Chinese adolescents' selfpresentation on Douyin, the Chinese TikTok counterpart, and the cultural factors that determine these features. We discovered that teenagers' self-presentation is characterized, firstly, by the creation of a virtual identity based on the real one, secondly, by freedom in the choice of role behavior, and thirdly, by the idealization of their image and various means of its formation. In addition to the impact of social, commercial, and network values, we also found the influence of traditional Chinese culture. Cultural stereotypes formed by upbringing are reflected in the forms of self-presentation (from external style to way of thinking) by the modern younger generation on social networks. We noted the role of celebrity culture in the daily lives of teenagers. In the future, studying the role of Chinese adolescents in the social information system, especially at the stage of changes in their self-perception and self-presentation, seems relevant. The advent of short video apps like Douyin has greatly popularized the practice of sharing travel experiences in the form of live-streaming or prerecorded videos. With the breakout of COVID-19, the feasibility and appeal of physical travel were substantially undermined such that people now become increasingly dependent on watching short videos as a means of consuming travel-related content. This revolutionary change in the landscape of destination marketing is reshaping the tourism industry, which calls for research efforts of both scholars and practitioners. Our study aimed to investigate how two major characteristics of tourism-themed short videos, namely, level of novelty and camera angle, influence viewers' behavioral intentions toward actually visiting the places, with the incorporation of several relevant psychological mediators, including immersion, positive surprise, spatial presence, and perceptual realism. A 2 (low- vs. high-level novelty) × 2 (first- vs. third-person view) factorial experiment was designed and conducted. Statistical analysis based on a sample of 480 participants suggested that the perception of positive surprise increased with the level of novelty contained in the videos, which was positively associated with viewers' visit intentions in an indirect manner. Moreover, compared to the third-person view, employing the first-person view to film sites and scenes produced a greater sense of immersion, which in turn stimulated interest in taking a tour. Short-video social media is becoming a major advertising tool in the digital age. Covert advertising is increasingly used as a major strategy to effectively promote a product. This study aims to explore the genre of covert short-video advertisements launched in Douyin—the Chinese version of TikTok. It integrates Bhatia's critical genre analysis approach with Kress and van Leeuwen's Multimodal Discourse Analysis approach as the conceptual framework. The researchers selected 100 covert short-video advertisements in Douyin for analysis. The findings demonstrate how this genre is manipulated to exploit consumerism, to shape consumer culture and to drive business growth through rhetorical moves, interdiscursivity and exploitation of multimodal resources. This study not only gives insight into the less explored deceptive new media genre but also contributes to recognition of covert short-video advertising and methods in analyzing genres in the age of "new media."
