Abstract
The article discusses the origins of the Humboldt Paper Company in Humboldt County, California. According to the article, the passenger steamer "Bear" ran aground south of the Bear River on June 14, 1916, and "The Humboldt Times" newspaper co-owner J.H. Crothers offered $500 to the owners of the ship for the rolls of newsprint that were aboard. The article discusses the efforts to salvage the paper. The article states that the Humboldt Paper Company was sold to the Zellerbach Paper Company in 1936.
