Nowadays, touchable displays are widely used in most embedded systems, including mobile phones and other hand-held devices. Although interactive user interfaces are intuitively required for these systems, most of interactive graphical user interface implementations usually need lots of system resources. For low-tier embedded systems, we have presented that the text-based user interfaces are more suitable, as shown in our previous works. In this paper, we present an object-oriented approach to provide a full-scale text-based user interface scheme, especially on the low-tier embedded systems. Our application user interface implementation is very simple and intuitive, with few amount of computing resource. It naturally supports multiple overlapping windows, pop-up menus, pull-down menus, dialog boxes, and other user interface components, with graceful object-oriented application programming interfaces. We also provide large size text output for emphasis purposes. All the systems are now available as a software library, and can be used for wide range of applications.

In this paper, we use a network-based cloud environment, the software keyboard is built into the smart mobile devices will be customized to provide the user interface. Customized user interface using a network-based interface for the cloud as the optimized interface with a variety of individual application environments, user will have a desired interface for their usage. If the user requests the Node.js and JQuery-based interface to provide an interface, it will provide an interface quicker. The server processes the data quickly and builds server data. There has an algorithm which was developed to return the existing MongoDB. We will use M/M/1, M/M/C Queueing Model for using performance analysis and testing existing MongoDB Server which applied the algorithm to provide and manage user interface effectively. In addition, We propose SLAN to share data between among users, and test this method.

In this work, we proposed a virtual companion based interface that simplifies the smartphone interface for the elderly. This interface displays menus according to the situation and users' request via a virtual agent and animates information in a 3-dimensional manner. We applied speech recognition technology from mobile and wearable devices to receive input from users. Virtual avatars were selected to visualize appropriate behavior based on user input. We expect that this mobile interface could be a future of next smartphone user interface.

This paper used MSP432 microcontroller and microsoft C# language to design a user interface for active magnetic bearing system, and to communicate by Bluetooth low energy module. In our user interface, there are COM PORT search and connection, parameters setting, real time data reading, graphical monitoring and other functions. It can satisfy the general needs of the machine control, and reduce industrial machine operating procedure.

The paper firstly discusses the development process of the visualization of information, and analysis of the importance of the visualization of information in web design, and finally issues the application in web design of the user interface from three aspects that are graphical text, graphical data, and graphical structure.

A model-based user interface automatic generation development method was presented to adapt for user interface development requirement under SaaS environment. This method deployed abstract interface model, transformation model, specific interface model and final interface in different abstract level at running time. So, the server-end could distribute the user interface to the client-end by one time a widow or page. By a case study, this method can satisfy the demands of user interface under SaaS environment, and it is so simple to study and use.

Diverse operating systems and developed platforms of mobile devices are implemented by vendors exist. The software has to be developed by respective environment in designing the user interface of software. For the solution of the inconvenience, this paper proposes an integrated platform 4A DUOS for developing user interface independently. The proposed platform can use web language not dependent on various operating systems, and offer online access to API and component templates to provide the convenience of the user interface design. Also, the server with on board designed user interface implements the service to the user. Therefore, the users can design the independent user interface on various mobile devices by using only one source.

Modern home theater systems require users to control various devices simultaneously including a TV, audio equipment, DVD and video players, and a receiver. To perform the requested user functions in this situation, the user is required to know the functions and positions of the buttons on several remote controls. Users will become more confused if a ubiquitous home environment, which contains many mobile and stationary control devices, is realized. Therefore, the user interface should be adaptable for requested user functions and to fit a specific control device. This paper presents a context-adaptive user interface for the control of devices in ubiquitous home environment. First, we modeled the ubiquitous home environment in order to implement the context-adaptive user interface. We used a Bayesian network to predict the necessary devices in each situation and used a behavior network to select the functions that constitute an adaptive user interface in several conditions. The selected functions were used to generate an adaptive interface for each controller using a presentation template. In this paper, we implemented a ubiquitous home environment and generated a controller usage log for this environment. We confirmed that the Bayesian network effectively predicted the user requirements by evaluating the inferred results of the necessary devices based on several scenarios. Finally, we compared the adaptive user interface with the fixed user interface by surveying fourteen subjects. We confirmed that the generated adaptive user interface was more comfortable for use with typical tasks than was the fixed user interface.

User Interface (UI) tests allow you to test your application from the outside, just as your users would see the application. Every time you decide to run your application on the simulator or device, you are, in effect, testing the UI of your application. Since Xcode 7, Apple has provided the ability to create automated UI tests. These automated UI tests are great at finding regression defects, and used correctly can reduce the regression testing effort for your apps.

Interaction with the machines and computers is achieved using user interfaces. Nowadays, with the tremendous growth of technology, the interaction is made more simple and flexible. The study of user interfaces for human-computers and machines interaction is the main focus of this paper. In particular, an extensive overview of different user interfaces available so far is provided. The review covers text-based, graphical-based, and new class of emerging user interfaces to interact with the machines and computers. This work will be helpful for the development of new user interfaces.

This chapter introduces the design of the E-CAT user interface tool. The tool is based on Excel and Visual Basic for Application (VBA). Three different economic consequence options are developed for each type of threat, including a point estimate (Option 1), interval estimate (Option 2) and uncertainty distribution (Option 3). Step-by-step instructions are presented in the User’s Guide in Appendix A.

The programming of RoboSapien as described in userâ??s manual is limited with the internal memory, battery life, and not very convenient input of actions through the multipurpose buttons of the RoboSapien IR remote control device. In order to offer better conditions for experimenting and using of RoboSapien, the web user interface was developed, that provides interactive user control, programming of command sequences of arbitrary length, observing of RoboSapien actions using the web cam that shows the movements and actions on web page. Access and control of RoboSapien by remote user through the web page user interface, is controlled by access levels depending on whether the user is logged in or not. The whole system is implemented in C# as ASP.NET project with NI USB 6501 digital I/O driving the CMOS 4066 analog switches for controlling the RoboSapien IR remote control device.

The use of technology in learning and teaching enriches engineering curricula. Most technological applications establish a user-friendly environment based on a graphical user interface. This work proposes experimental temperature-sensing modules based on the graphical user interface system. This system elucidates for students the principles, function and application of temperature sensor, and also learn how to use the graphical monitoring and control system. Students can design a graphical monitor program in advance to monitor and control the temperature sensor modules. Students learn, verify and acquire lectured concepts by performing sensor experiments in the laboratory. The most important part of the system is the implementation of the experimental module in laboratory sessions using the graphical user interface system. In this paper, an efficient technique is proposed to integrate the 3D user interface with the tiled display system in PC cluster environment. In the developed 3D user interface software, various menus are provided to increase the user friendliness of the interface, including the several model-control-commands. To eliminate the noise produced from the 3D user interface devices, the box filtering algorithm is employed. Further, a communication splitting algorithm, which is a kind of asynchronous communication method, is proposed to reduce the motion delay between the 3D interface and the tiled display system, and its efficiency is validated through the benchmarking tests.

Recently, high-quality 3D graphics has become available at a low cost. A number of attempts have been made to visualize information of a very large system by using 3D graphics. Development of a 3D graphical user interface system needs, however, more cost than that of a 2D graphical user interface system. To solve this problem, we propose an effective method to easily construct 3D graphical user interface for SCADA. Then we demonstrate the advantage of 3D graphical user interfaces constructed by our method through user experiment.

In this paper we present the user interface of a tele-robotic system, which allows CERN users to perform visual inspections and tele-manipulation tasks inside the CERN accelerator complex. This graphical user interface has been designed to be simple to use, in order to provide the operator with a comfortable system. Moreover, the user interface is robot independent and it adapts itself to the robot configuration, in order to provide a general way for controlling any kind of robot used at CERN. Furthermore it allows the operator to choose between different kinds of input (e.g. keyboard, joypad, haptic device, etc), in order to provide the most easy human-robot interaction interface, which is a fundamental requirement for safe operations.

To resolve the issue that a vast majority of time is spent on design and maintenance of new customized user interface in the development of digital TV system software, we propose TVSkin user interface, an architecture to be applied to the design of user interface software. With TVSkin user interface, there is no need to modify any of the programming codes, in order to make additions or changes to the user interface of a digital TV system. Therefore, the whole cycle of the product development can be shortened. This will make the design of a customized digital TV user interface and the replacement of its mechanism as easy as in the case of a popular skin-able user interface of a desktop application. In this way, a user interface can be used more than once.

The first stage in the design of a user interface is the quest for its `typical user', an abstract generalization of each user of the application. However, in web systems and other scenarios where the application can be used by dozens of different kinds of users, the identification of this `typical user' is quite difficult, if not impossible. Our proposal is to avoid the construction of interactive dialogs during the design stage, building them dynamically once the specific cognitive, perceptual and motor requirements of the current user are known: that is, during the execution stage. This is the approach used by GADEA, an intelligent user interface management system (UIMS) able to separate the functionality of an application from its interface in real time. The system adapts the components of the interface depending on the information stored in a user model which is continuously updated by a small army of data-gathering agents.

When developing the user interface code of a mobile application, in practice a big gap exists between the digital conceptual drawings of graphic artists and working user interface code. Currently, programmers bridge this gap manually, by reimplementing the conceptual drawings in code, which is cumbersome and expensive. To bridge this gap, we introduce the first technique to automatically Reverse Engineer Mobile Application User Interfaces (REMAUI). On a given input bitmap REMAUI identifies user interface elements such as images, texts, containers, and lists, via computer vision and optical character recognition (OCR) techniques. In our experiments on 488 screenshots of over 100 popular third-party Android and iOS applications, REMAUI-generated user interfaces were similar to the originals, both pixel-by-pixel and in terms of their runtime user interface hierarchies. REMAUI's average overall runtime on a standard desktop computer was 9 seconds.

Today, one of the most significant fields to be developed by the technological community is the human-machine interface. This study concerns with developing more understandable, efficient and reliable ways to communicate with machines. In this work a PC-based touch-screen, Human-Machine Interface is designed to build up the Graphical User Interface (GUI) to command the behavior of a lifting mechanism. This approach is presented to fit user-friendly and reliable interactions.

User interface design is an important component of human-computer interface. User interface continues to evolve and the emphasis is on imparting more control to end-user and at the same time to facilitate ease of use. This paper proposes a framework for design of an adaptive user interface. The adaptive user interface allows automatic generation of elements of the interface such as buttons, text fields, data fields, menus etc. Moreover, it allows sharing of user screen for design of the interface from distributed locations at the same time. Further, in view of growing importance and widespread use of mobile devices, the framework incorporates portability across different platforms including mobile view. An additional feature is the incorporation of an inbuilt database pertinent to the application to allow the user to develop and design the interface quickly and easily. Mandel's Golden rules for interface design remain the backbone of the proposed framework.

Graphical User Interface is the easiest communication approach between an application and a user. Thus, it is important to promptly react to user's requests. In this paper we describe an implemented concept to improve the Graphical User Interface responsiveness in embedded environment. We also describe its subsequent evolution of the implementation triggered by its real world applications.
