The article presents an encyclopedia entry for British philosopher John Eliot. Eliot as an elected member of the British Parliament, criticizes Spain, popery and Armenianism. he defended the liberties of the subject, the privileges of Parliament and Calvinist Protestantism. In 1626 and 1627, he was imprisoned by the King. As a prisoner, he wrote "An Apology for Socrates," defending his own political conduct. He discussed the power of the king in "The Monarchie of Man" and "De jure majestatis."
