The aim of this study is to provide information about microstructural and thermal properties of tungsten-based composites. Phase composition and microstructural characterization of tungsten composites were performed using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Raman Spectroscopy. SEM images revealed the distribution of tungsten (W), vanadium carbide (VC) and graphite (C) powders in the tungsten matrix. The Raman spectra showed two major peaks, which are recorded at 1331 (vs) cm−1, and 1583 (vs) cm−1. These bands can be attributed to disorder graphite (D) and graphite (G). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurements were performed to determine the weight loss and thermal stability of the tungsten-based composites under argon gas atmosphere and at high temperatures. X-ray analysis of layered Ge 0. 9 9 5 Nd 0. 0 0 5 S crystal has been investigated before and after gamma irradiation. Single crystal Ge 0. 9 9 5 Nd 0. 0 0 5 S was irradiated with a 6 0 Co gamma source which had an energy of 1.33 MeV. The dose rate was D = 0. 3 5   Gy / s and the absorption dose was from 1 kGy up to 30 kGy. The thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetric, differential thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis were performed on the samples. The thermodynamic analysis was evaluated for the thermally stable temperature range for unirradiated and irradiated Ge 0. 9 9 5 Nd 0. 0 0 5 S compound. The results showed the splitting of GeNdS sample in the manner →   GeNd + Ge 1 − x S at the temperature range of 6 4 4 ∘ C ≤ T ≤ 6 7 5 ∘ C which leads to mass reduction by 0.29%.
