O estudo da auto-eficácia tem, desde há várias anos, suscitado acrescido interesse entre os investigadores, na perspectiva de compreender quais os comportamentos e as atitudes dos indivíduos que condicionam ou determinam a auto-eficácia na gestão do seu regime terapêutico. A literatura nesta área tem reconhecido que a existência de uma comunicação eficaz entre a pessoa com doença crónica e a equipa de saúde representa uma mais-valia com benefícios para os actores envolvidos. Os principais estudos neste domínio destacam que, sendo a comunicação um constructo complexo, deverá ser estudado como um fenómeno multidimensional e multideterminado. Os objectivos centrais desta investigação são a análise da multidimensionalidade do papel da comunicação entre os doentes e os profissionais de saúde na auto-eficácia na asma, o estudo das variáveis que determinam a comunicação entre profissionais de saúde e pessoas com asma e o impacto da comunicação na auto-eficácia da asma, medida através de: atitudes, acessibilidade aos profissionais de saúde, necessidades de comunicação, satisfação com a comunicação e adaptação psicológica. O estudo foi aplicado a 122 pessoas com asma há mais de 1 ano e em consulta hospitalar. Os resultados obtidos demonstram a importância da comunicação estabelecida entre a pessoa com asma e os profissionais de saúde para promover o envolvimento das pessoas no seu plano terapêutico e desenvolver comportamentos de auto-eficácia. Neste trabalho são também discutidas as implicações teóricas e práticas da auto-eficácia na asma e assinalados os contributos para outros estudos. There has been increased interest in the study of self-efficacy among researchers in recent years with a view to understanding which of individuals' behaviour and attitudes condition or determine self-efficacy in the management of therapeutic regimen. Literature in this domain has recognized that the existence of efficient communication between the person with a chronic illness and health professionals is beneficial to the actors involved. The main studies in this field stress that this communication is a complex construct and has to be studied as a multidimensional and multidetermined phenomenon. The main goal of this research is to analyze the multidimentional role of communication between the patient and the health professionals for the self-effective management of asthma; the variables that determine the communication between health professionals and people with asthma are also studied as well as the impact of this communication in self-effective management of asthma measured by attitudes, accessibility to health professionals, the need of communication, the satisfaction with communication and psychological adaptation. The study has been applied to 122 persons under hospital supervision for asthma for more than 1 year. One of the conclusions from this study is that communication between health professionals and people with asthma promotes the involvement of the chronically sick person in his/her therapeutic plan and develops self-effective behaviour. This work also analyzes the implications (theory and practice) in self-efficacy in asthma and signalizes the contributions to other studies.
