Abstract

Experimental studies with adult rats show that the unilateral section of a facial nerve induces massive and slow reversible transistor expression of 8-L-arginine vasopressin ((Arg8)VP) receptors in the deefferented facial nucleus. Axotomy increases the expressions of (Arg8)VP receptors in the hypoglossal nucleus and in the spinal motor nuclei of the sciatic nerve. Neuromuscular contacts influence (Arg8)VP-binding sites in the motor nuclei. Vasopressin receptors are involved in the establishment of neuromuscular connections during growth and reestablishment after nerve injury.
